Is this thing going to be available stateside? I guess I wouldn't mind importing it if the price is right. Really wish they packaged almost any other figure than Hot Rod, though. Wasn't like, fucking everyone on the Junk planet when the Junkions were introduced? Kup, Arcee, Springer... hell, it'd be awesome if they redid the packaging a bit and put Ultra Magnus in there.

It wasn't to be, though.

I had a dream last night that Hastak Devastator in combined mode had a transformation and you could transform him into literally just a giant rectangle. Just a big rectangle. It was a really nice, seamless rectangle with neat purple patterns, but still.

In the dream I was extremely sad because (in real life) I'd already put in orders for a 3P Devy and I remember thinking "No 3P Devastator can turn into a rectangle..."

Anyway, I thought that Devastator could turn into a rectangle for a while after waking up, and was kind of bummed the whole time, but then I looked at some pictures and reality came back into effect.

Does anyone else own either Masterpiece Tracks or Masterpiece Road Rage? I'm not sure how the neck is supposed to work. The hinge it's on is nice and tight and is able to hold the head up at the right position just fine, but beneath it there's just... nothing. Nothing to brace it, nothing to snap into. Which means that when I'm posing her head I have to pull up slightly, otherwise she'll do her best imitation of a turtle and sink her head below her shoulders.

Was it really designed this way? I keep wondering if I'm missing something.
>>

Never happening.

>Re-releasing that Hot Rod mold again

Hasbro what r u doin
>>
>>5416715
I like that mold. It's arm ball joints are sometimes wonky, but it's a fun toy.

I have the flat cartoon-colored one, so I'm definitely getting that boxed set. I doubt it'll be $100, and that's what that set would run you with eBay prices.
>>
>>5416737
While I agree that it's a decent figure and certainly not the worst, I do believe that Hot Rod kind of does deserve an updated figure. I don't mind if it's deluxe or voyager, but he should get a better one.
>>
>>5416672
My Tracks' head has a click when I lift it up. And while there's some play in it between the click and its maximum elevation, it won't go down past the click without applying a little force. In your pic you certainly seem to be raising it high enough to lock, so I would assume its a QC problem.
>>
>>5416753
Yeah that mold is quickly approaching the 10 year mark, how haven't we gotten a better Hotrod or even a Rodimus proper yet?

i want to start collecting transformer toys, especially the masterpiece toys.

Is it worth getting into this hobby? Were do i start? Are the figures easy to find to buy?
>>
>>5417243
>Is it worth getting into this hobby?
You have to choose between spending your money on cancer research or buying plastic trinkets to fulfill your personal fantasy.

I think it's worth it.
>>
>>5417243
Depends which line, the robots in disguise line (as in what's in shops now) are easiest and cheapest to get BUT the japanese versions are superior in terms of paint deco (transformers adventure) as well as some variations that you may not get elsewhere in that line.

Combiner wars maybe harder to find especially for older figures depending on the size class, better off getting the Unite Warriors sets but since only superion and menasor are the only standard releases expect to pay more overall.

As for mp's how extensive are you going to collect, alot of the older ones may be pricey second hand, bootlegs are an option if you have the tolerance.

But right now you should be fine with the fan favs getting re-releases like optimus prime, ultra magnus and wheeljack, if you want mp's pick the guys you like, getting them all will cost you.

Now the best place to get mp's is straight from the source, Japan, if you want something that's been and gone try mandarake for second hand ones, combiner wars and robots in disguise are in local shops though availability may vary.
>>
>>5417252

I want to get mainly the decepticons like star scream and soundwave but they are pretty expensive online. In Australia they are all over $300+
>>
>>5417259
>In Australia
Aye m8 guess we're in the same boat.

Getting the proper soundwave is gonna be a bitch, I caved and got the year of the goat for $129, and myers had him on sale for $99 around christmas time which was a bitch, all I can suggest is mandarake for him but its mostly sound blaster's with ratbat (exclusive to this black repaint), shame the hasbro mp soundwave is the most expensive one (but it did come all the cassettes, much like the YOTG one).

Starscream was a bit easier for me, got the recent hasbro one for about $140 from toys r us but we had very limited numbers, better off ringing around, though the mold has some issues and the fittings on mine are fucked.

If you want the takara (japanese one) there is one on ebay for $250 (first result), no flight stand like the hasbro BUT you get a spiffy crown and cape, and this guy selling the asia reissue so it comes with a collector coin if you're into that sorta thing.

Do avoid mp megatron, aside from being kinda shitty looking he's technically illegal as he counts as a replica firearm, I just got lucky with mine, some states allow him but you need a gun license and gun locker.

I find going on ebay for the hasbro ones to be a safe bet cost wise though they may not hold a candle to the more pricy takara ones.

Also mp shockwave is still up for pre-order, try hlj, amiami or premiumcollectables.com.au for him and others where available.
>>
>>5417243
>Is it worth getting into this hobby
Just for the MPs. Retail is shit right now, except for the cheap little legends figures which are at least justified in their compromises. Although they're not even that cheap anymore.
>Were do i start? Are the figures easy to find to buy?
Well, if you like Masterpiece, start there. Unfortunately, they're not easy to find/buy. You need to import them from a Japanese dealer site like HLJ, AmiAmi or Anime Export. And most older figures are completely sold out. You could try a local importer like BBTS or TFsource, but their prices are insane. Your other option is ebay, which opens you up to second hand, or buying the KOs, and quality varies greatly on those, but they are readily available and comparatively cheap, so there's that.

To be honest, I never understand people who ask if they should get into a certain hobby. Is it worth it? I think that's up to you, isn't it? You'd think if you cared enough to start collecting something, you'd put in the time to research and look at the product and decide whether or not you want to spend your money on it for yourself. You shouldn't have to be talked into a hobby. In fact, you should be so into it that nobody can talk you out of it. I feel like there's this weird imperative nowadays to be "into" something just so you can carve a notch on your belt.

>>
>>5417305
I buy a bit of everything, if I don't like it I don't buy.

I'd love an mp of everything but there isn't an mp superion yet
>>
>>5417305
>as if nothing is worth buying right now other than that?
As a collector, no, I don't feel there is anything else worth buying, besides MP and the legends class figures like I mentioned. Everything deluxe-leader class is just riddled with lowered QC and compromises. I don't feel the need to buy toys just to fill out some '80s cartoon cast checklist. I want toys that are impressive to look at and smartly engineered, and right now, most retail releases aren't that. And I'm not bitching about it, I'm just not buying. Vote with your wallet, as they say.

I do buy the legends class toys because they are actually better engineered than most deluxe figures, since we're wading through repaint wars. The little figures give me something quick to transform and fun to fiddle with, while MPs give me a complex, detailed figure. Everything else just sort of occupies this space in between that I don't feel the need for.

>are you hearing yourself?
You're the one who is sperging out that people aren't buying the same stuff that you're buying. Chill.
>>
>>5417319
yeah me too, I only buy the cool ones like Soundwave, Exhaust, and Star Saber

People get so fuckin excited for Sideswipe and Prowl and whoever, but those guys barely did shit in the show.
>>
>>5417329
I buy because of the design, truth be told I kinda like prowl and sideswipe for their alt modes, got me star saber exhaust as well.

Really, its just opinion, nothing wrong with those buying shitty designs if they grew up with the character, hence how I can tolerate owning all of the current mp11 hasbro repaints, same for those buying what's cool looking.

Its because of this people actually like the UW/CW devastator at all.
>>
>>5417331
I think the new Devastator is cool, his arms are just shitty.

I bought the UW cause I think the Contructicons are cool
>>
>>5417335
I disliked the proportions but I grew up without a devy to call my own as a kid, so I myself got the UW.

Really the CW would of been enough seeing how its just devastator I want, but its the complete package and it does has the better g1 paint job without any touchup work
>>
>>5417076
I think you're confused, people aren't digibashing it as a favour to Funpub, they're doing it out of derision towards Funpub's choices.

>>5417329
>but those guys barely did shit in the show.
>judging the value of a toy based on its prominence in a 30-year-old cartoon
Kek. Then you'd be overlooking the fact that the Datsun mold is easily the best of the MP cars. I really don't give a shit about whatever Smokescreen did in the show, but holy fuck his paint job and alt. mode are gorgeous.

For some reason a huge Masterpiece Primal would feel wrong to me, and the new transformation would be more amazing if they include it in a smaller figure.

That doesn't always work out. Look at generations rattrap.

My bet is unlikely. They'll never release any villains. Because even if you buy 10 Primals, they'll probably just do another maximal next.

Remember, Megatron wasn't the cool and calculating character we know him as in Beast Wars. In the Japanese dub, he was a shrieking coward.

And Generations Rattrapp isn't that bad, I own the Takara one and is an OK figure for the price point, had zero problems with it.

Toy Fair is right around the corner. We could get another MP BW figure announcement, and if they're going to do just two, Megatron is the next logical choice.

It's not going to sell for hundreds. Around $100 at the highest if it's complete with everything. More realistically you'll get buyers if you sell at the 50-75 range.

Masterpieces are a hard place to start. They're extremely expensive, especially since a ton of them are scalped to fuckall and back. You can even buy 3P shit cheaper than a lot of MP's because of how bad the scalping is, and most 3P's are overpriced as fuck.

The original is still a great toy, this is just better. Expanding out of just collecting transformers has made me more picky, and also less complacent. This character had an updated figure only 4 years after the original version in the line. The original is still a better toy than most. But the newer version just feels more like a collector's figure.
>>
>>5417926
Alterations include the shoulders, feet, head, backpack, and chest plate. I also heard they fixed the hips, so that's at least a 40% difference.
>>
>>5417876
All they've done is change the wings and the tip of the shuttle so it looks more like a hawk in beast mode, maybe it has a robot mode and they scrapped shuttle but i doubt it. Torso colors emulate leozak/jarugar beast is deathsaurus
>>
>>5417929
>killed the hero of his show
>and a bunch of other ppoular characters

>well, ok, the update came with a new personality and looks so he technically died I guess

Yeah, no one else accomplished that shit in the 80's. You didn't see Cobra Commander nuking Duke and popping Snake Eyes in the chest, or Mumma-Ra buttfucking the cast of Thundercats to death.

BW Megatron barely managed to kill Dinobot, and couldn't even kill the rest of them when he had a whole planet at his disposal.
>>
>>5417926
Yeah. But the way Onslaught is designed means the backpack is far less invasive.
>>
>>5417926

Onslaught has the hip issue fixed and doesn't have the ladder-through-the-crotch thing Hotspot has for bodymode, meaning Onslaught is a more stable body.

However, Onslaugt isn't as stable in bot mode, he's a little tipping prone even with the heel spurs they added, especially since Hotspot's ladder basically doubles as a figure stand for him, letting him pull off more poses and not be as tippy as Onslaught.

Primal is just a weird character to make a Transformer of. He's already a humanoid in his alt mode, so the transformation can only do so much. I think the Cybertron Primal had the most creative transformation by switching the legs and arms, but that's about it. He can't fold up into a box shape like a lot of other Transformers.

So yeah, the original 96 figure is still pretty solid, but I wouldn't mind plopping down MP money for one with more articulation and better paint aps. You kind of have to start with Primal, the hope is they'll do more than just him in the MP line.

If the list of BW characters that need an MP are being decided based on how non-show-accurate their toys were, Terrorsaur is at the top of that list. His bot mode was sexy as fuck in the show, and had nothing to do with the toy. A decent MP figure of him would rock.

The problem is if you made that same list but listed it order of fan popularity, he'd probably be near the bottom.
>>
>>5418557

His MP would require a lot of crazy engineering. Especially the wings. I didn't have a problem with his toy. I love good wingspans on figures.

I think it's a toss up between him and Dinobot. His toy sacrificed the look of the beast mode for the bot mode. Lets see how they could handle that.

in the beginning there were Four Maximals

Optimus Primal
Rhinox
Cheetor
Rattrap

Six Predacons
Megatron
Scorpinoc
Tarantuals
Waspinator
Terrorsaur
Dinobot, who later becomes a Maximal

With the number of Masterpieces out now I could see an eventual release of all original 10, with tools of Cheetor, Tarantuals, and Terrorsaur to make Tigertron, Black Arachnia, and Airazor respectively.

Only odd men out would season 2 and on, Transmetals, Fuzors, and maybe infernosince he was a shelfwarmer back in the day and kinda the old figure out as far as new creation and non retool.

Blackarachnia needs to have her own mold. Both her robot and beast modes are like half the mass of Tarantulas, and I'm not talking about scale. True, but we're specifically talking about what Beast Wars MPs we'd like them to make since the assumption is the selection will be far more limited than G1 characters.

MP Arcee is a foregone conclusion unless the MP line ends.

Plastic is on par with sonokong brave toys which if you have owned one is very durable

>Also her tits sit way too low on her chest

Did you slide her tits all the way up Anon? Lots of people miss you can slide her chest up, to the point like every reviewer of her missed the chest slide and many people didn't realize it was there for over a week.

Though to be honest, the boob section sags down due to some disassembly.
>>

They seem like they're pushed up all the way. They're resting flush against her spider eyes and the joints holding them are just balljoints. It leaves an unsightly gap below her neck and if you line her neck up with her spin (ie, keep her head up), her tits are at a weird angle.

I'm not sure how this picture was taken, though. That looks way better.
>>
>>5419326
Holy shit, disregard this. There's a joint hiding in her assembly that I didn't know about. Thank you anon!

I still want an MP Blackarachnia, though.

I opened chest torso and flipped the pieces around, not nearly as much resistance for sliding the chest up.

>>5419327
What joint?
>>
>>5419330
It's some sliding joint that includes her spider eyes. I literally just pushed with my thumbs and it clicked up into the right position, which greatly reduced the chest gap and made her tits rest in more or less the right place.

I really want an MP Arcee. I think having her, Hot Rod and Magnus makes a good sample of the '86 cast.

Here's what I'm talking about.

It was really easy to spot people that didn't own Animated Black Arachnia.
>>
>>5419370
I do own Animated BA but it's either been to long since I transformed her (like, what 7 years? Cut me some slack) or I never knew how to properly transform her. Either way she's in storage at the moment.

nice idea painting the lower chest plate black, I think I'll do that

If I painted the back of her titties gold, would that eliminate some of the transulcent-ness? I dont wanna mess up the spider web design on the front
>>
>>5419370
Her chest doesn't slide up anymore without serious brute force as it comes assembled.

You're forcing parts past their resistance points and scraping the hell out of the inner joint sections by forcing it up.

The original BA toy came assembled differently which is why it never had the issue to begin with.

I've done the "fix" on mine, works great now
>>
What are some cool KOs of transforming toys out there? Doesn't even have to be transformers franchise. I was looking at that dino combiner though I heard even the official one has issues.
