I've had a couple of stands break in the same area due to falls, and have glued them no problem. Use good glue, let it dry, and stop being a hamhands.
You can also:
1- Keep that screw lose until you have the position you want, thus no pressure on the joint when you start posing it.
2- Use a pin and pin it. There's room.
