Finally got my hands on my first 2016 sets (Tahu, Lewa, their respective creatures, and Umarak), all super awesome. Is it just me or are the masks WAY tighter than they were last year? It actually takes some effort to pull them off the face which I like.
Also the crystal blades are way thinner than I expected them to be and require some unbending out of the box, while the creature heads are way bigger and more solid than expected.
Question for you lore heavy anons.
Is there ANY indication at all about what "made" kulta, or why the ancient city just happens to be filled with dead spookingtons?
And what ARE the grinder's intentions? Why does it want to destroy the mask of creation? a grudge? for shits and giggles?

Kulta is stated to be one of Makuta's servants, but thats about it. The skull warriors and likely Skull Slicer were all raised from the dead (likely the dead of former inhabitants of the City of the Mask Makers) by Kulta's power, perhaps Skull Basher was too but all we really know is that he is Kulta's Lieutenant. Kulta planned to destroy the mask of Creation, likely under Makuta's orders (who would want it destroyed because of combination of jealousy for his brother and the fact that it is a strong mask that could fuck with whatever he is up to), Kulta delayed destroying the mask in order to use it's power to defeat the Toa, but got fucked up by Ekimu.

Spoilers ahead and a rushed summary of how it ended:
They find out Mata Nui was actually a gigantic robot that the entire matoran universe (metru nui, all the other ones around that area) and they had been living inside him, they wake up mata nui but makuta transplants his own consciousness into mata nui's body just as he wakes up, taking control of the universe, mata nui's spirit gets thrown in the mask of life and jettisoned into space, where it lands on the planet where it all began (or 1/3rd of the planet, the other two thirds were a water one where the entire bionicle storyline took place, and a jungle one we never saw, they got split apart and mata nui was made to put them back together)
Anyway so mata nui goes there and does random shit then he finds an old prototype robot body and goes in it then makuta shows up in his body and they fight and mata nui uses gravity powers to send one the other planets coming back down and it hits makuta in the face killing him and then the planet is restored to its full form and mata nui leaves and the matoran integrate with the planets locals.
There is a bunch of other random shit and over-complicated lore and lovecraft fanfiction leading up to these events but what I stated is all that really matters.

Forgot to mention the avohkii's gold would be gold metallic powder, which is spread over the mold and adheres to the resin to create a faux metal look.
That spread on the front of the mask in different patterns would probably look fantastic with light illuminating the transparent part. Shit, I'm considering turning this into a full operation...

RoboTupac guy from a few threads ago. Well, version 2.0 of RoboTupac/GigaNigga has been completed. And holy fuck I was not expecting him to be this big.
His Bitch Ass Nigga Targeting System hasn't been fully completed (translation-I haven't gotten around to ordering Gali Mistika's reticule on bricklink), so for now it's still some brainwave helmet bullshit. I changed it to Von Nebulas orb because Pac always wore a blue bandana and this is the best I could manage in Lego without making a mini blue bandana. That feels like heresy, but it doesn't actually damage the Piece, soooo... You can also see his shoulder mounted grenade launcher, for large clusters of niggas from the wrong crew.
He also has a wing pack, for missions where niggas in they private jets gots to learn. I'm still working on this moc, so I'll probably add some thrusters later on, but hopefully you can make out the Ben 10 torso piece. I wanted to go for a biomechanical vibe, but that fell apart when his torso became taller than your average Protector.

Currently I've swapped Finns hands and jacket for Obi Wans and he's just chilling as some dude in my display. I'm working on some kind of desert scavenger/soldier mic to compliment or replace my Rey, so most of his parts might go towards that.
Finally, RoboPac comes with his mic and chain (disclaimer: Pac didn't really rock a big flashy chain that often, but it went with the casual racism of this moc). I'm still working on and improving this moc, so if you guys have any suggestions or critiques, I'd appreciate it. I only used the four dark orange shells from pohatu, and left the spikes since they looked pretty good on him, the rest is from my CCBS bin, and I've already ordered four new dark orange shells so I'll be able to keep both Pohatu side by side if I want. I'm still searching for a good way to differenciate him from the others, but I'm sure I'll be able to find something.

I second this. I'd like to give Pohatu dark tan shoulders and replace the 3L shells on his forearms with silver ones in the same size.

I sometimes use red ones on robotic parts of MOCs to represent power indicators or something. I have more of a problem with axlepins. I've got heaps of the blue fuckers but hardly any black ones. I have no use for the tan axlepins either. I almost always replace them for higher friction pieces and when I want low friction, I use light grey axlepins.

Just redone Pohatu, obviously the gold spears on his shins will be silver, but yeah, I'm more happy with this look, it makes it stand out more even without the asymetry from the 2015 model.

Thanks, the body has been modified quite a bit, the picture show how I've done it, the dark bluish grey angle pieces on the sides will be replaced by the newest ones with only one cross axle from this year since the second axle is useless. Also, the shoulders will be reinforced using 3L axles with stop (the ones from Tahu's new weapons) once I can order some. Finally, the hordika necks are attached via some 3L bars with 2/3 cross axle and 1/3 round, it'll get replaced with the other one, which is also used on pretty much every uniters back to... unite.

Oh and, I almost forgot that the center piece will be replaced by the longer one used on pohatu's shoulders, to attach to the black pin on the torso.
Also, now that I think about it, the shoulders and boot could look good on kopaka since it does look a bit like his 2015 design. I might see what I can do with that when I get it.

Well the ridiculous color scheme was sort of intentional. It's one of those Mocs with a story behind it - in universe, the color scheme literally WAS designed by a class of kindergarteners. The real reason was I just wanted to slap together a bunch of transparent parts and see what it looked like, but then it became a Exo suit thing and I just got attached to it. Here's him with the metal arm. I changed a few things, like his other alarm has both trains yellow bones, and he has this nifty little spear to dismember desert creatures. His metal arm is LITERALLY lifted straight off of '15 Pojatu, no modification at all. You really did well with this torso design man, inspired me to try something similar with Tahu.

Has anyone else noticed how much friction the new sets have for their torso gearbox? Like, my Onua actually squeaks when I use the gear function. This is my worst case scenario, but there is some heavy friction with these sets.

Personally I find that with Brown figures the different shades dont matter to me as much, it just feels sorta textured or rusted or something, while with many other colors different shades of one color can look awful (I think the darker shade of Tahu's 2016 mask due to blending was the main reason for there being almost no red on the figure).

I see you kept more or less the weapons stock, I wanted to try doing something with the blade but I didn't find anything I really liked so I kept using only the flail. I haven't got any of the Uniters yet, but I like the amount of friction on the 2015 gearboxes. It's a lot better than the Toa Mata, where they didn't even try to add friction. Teridax was a bit loose in the waist, so it's great to hear that we can now pose our figures properly.

So, I removed Pohatu's armor and put it on his sword. I think it looks better for the Uniter version, but I'm liking the look of Pohatu withe the change posted.

Just got Kopaka and Melum, why does everyone hate on this set? Kopaka looks awesome and well proportioned with a cool upper armor design and weapon, and Melum is by far the cutest creature. If I had one complaint it would be that I applied the stickers about 1mm off on one axis so they dont line up as well as they should and Lego should really learn to print Technic panels stickers are shit.
