I ordered a Transportation Captain today. I think it's the best looking of the 3P Astrotrain's.

Chigurh kinda went in it's own direction on the alt modes. Evila Star had great alts but issues with the robot.
>>

I just ordered Scraper. It's my very first third party transformer so I'm pretty excited.

Think that 3P guys ever draw up designs for hyper-niche guy remakes like MP-styled Beast Wars and Anime figures or something completely original based on a vehicle they though looked cool for fun?

We may see MP Beast Wars once MP Primal comes out.
It only takes one company to make a Rattrap or a Rhinox before everyone wants to complete the set.

I don't have any allegiance to G1 characters but I like the simple masterpiece designs.

I like the Function X line from Fansproject.

I like Fansproject in general.

I purchased Generation Toy's Scraper because he looks amazing.

I was considering pic related.
>>
>>5377202

Perfect Effect did a Leo Convoy that's pretty sexy. It's kinda a pile with QC issues but they're releasing a nemesis repaint/mild retool that allegedly fixes the issues.

Waiting for a good Cheetor toy. It's either shitty cheetah with good bot, or accurate cheetah with shitty bot right now for my choices.
>>
>>5377506

It's very hard to do a beastformer with a shit ton of shell forming.
>>
>>5377519
Yeah, I know. I'm just hoping somebody can give him justice. There's tons of engineering porn-level stuff 3P companies have made.
>>
>>5377492
3rd party MP Transmetals would be a win-win. They're robotic enough for G1 fans(the robot modes had an organic look on the toys, but that wasn't really emphasized in the animation) , and the transmetals likely won't be touched by Takara as the Metals line wasn't as popular in Japan as season 1. A lot of people would love an MP Transmetals Megatron or Tarantulas, even over the Season 1 versions. And you can get some vague G1 reuse if you want(most notably Cheetor as Ravage); or more obtuse ones like Tarantulas in g1 insecticon colors or Rampage in G1 Pirahnacon colors.

You will not be dissapointed. I love mine.

Be advised, GT's mix master comes with several replacement parts for Scrapper that take him from being above average, to near perfect.

Got Wrath yesterday and just finished transforming him for the first time. Tedious describes the whole ordeal. Sweet jesus, those guys. I bought breakdown on his own because he's my favorite of the five and I didn't really like the looks of M3 or whatever, but he's got hands-down the most frustrating transformation I've experienced. The tolerances are so tight it's ridiculous, I felt like I was gonna cut myself on the spoiler I had to push so hard to get the rear end to tab together. Mechanically it's cool; enough stuff swings around to be satisfying and the way the wheels collapse into the shins is brilliant, but the entire thing is just so goddammed tight it's painful. I think he's the only transformer I've ever transformed back and forth once.

>>5378210

But... that's an official Takara product.
Doesn't matter. It is excellent, easily one of the best MPs with his ridiculous head sculpt and awesome accessories. I suppose if you buy the Dr. Wu add-on kit, it becomes relevant to the topic at hand, and also makes him more over-the-top 90s than he already is.
>>
>>5379284
Once you add the Dr.Wu kit and the KFC hands, this thing becomes that much more amazing. One of the only official figures I own.

I like how much more round and Bulbous he is. The legs look pretty solid too. No shots from the back so I assume they didn't tuck in the Dino head to the torso. I think the dino head might look a little too mean but it isn't bad. Really I'm not sold on Scoria considering how much better Giga's looks.
>>

i agree with you. some parts of it look like a different sculpt but for the most part its a bigger mp grimlock.
>>
Hey /3ptfg/ what's the last Hasbro toy you've been fully satisfied with?

Since I started getting into 3 party stuff, the vanilla Hasbro stuff just doesn't seem to cut it.

Personally, Legends Powerglide and Thundercracker are the only two I've kept around from Combiner Wars, IMO all the repaints and remolds to make some janky-ass looking combiners really didn't sit well with me, they just looked bad, some G1 combiners even looked better than stock Menasor.
>>
>>5380129
I was pretty satisfied with defensor and magnus, but really, the standouts have been the legends. Shockwave is amazing and goes great with the recent 3p legends.
>>
>>5380129

Superion with upgrade sets for something quick and dirty to scratch the itch. Works well with a lot of the legends scale I keep picking up.

>>5378783
Just noticing now that the rex chest kibble wings are curved outward into the shoulder and are thickened so they look more armored. That's really nice.
>>
>>5379745

Nice, will wait and see what Robot Kingdom's price is for him
>>
>>5380129
I like Bruticus well enough, and the PE set takes him to another level. He's not perfect, but solid B+, it also helps I don't care about G1 at all, so accuracy means nothing. Giant is still my Devastator stand in, so he shall be forever more.

Also is Hexatron worth 130$? He's something I've been looking for and I just saw him for a decent price.

Legion Fix-it. One of the most fun toys I've got in a while.

>>5380731
Yea, the train guy. If they do it well, with an interesting design, I think it will turn out well.
>>
>>5377538
The only problem with that is that frankly, they're barely necessary. The Transmetal show models were very, very show-accurate; the only ones who really stick out as inaccurate are Rampage and maybe Blackarachnia.

Season 1 Beast Wars is a better place to look for remakes because the show models took major, major liberties.
>>
>>5380646
i know but I want it so badly
>>
>>5380788
True, they're not as necessary as say, Ironhide or something, but it still would be nice to have.

Their sculpts and articulation are pretty outdated, and there's alot of minor aesthetics you can improve.
Trans Tarantulas had a really shitty inaccurate head, and his arms suck cause his claws arent pronounced and he doesnt have wrist articulation
Trans Rattrap is a little off proportions wise, and his backpack doesnt twist like in the show

Not really necessary, but still not 100% accurate to the show, you know?

How is it more of a hardsell than Monstructor/Dinoking?

Raiden at least has cred for being a diaclone combiner. And people go gaga over trains.

>can carry MP cars and transforms into a robot that's bigger than Prime
Doesn't mean shit.
>All the correct size requirements are there.
No.
>In what way is he not MP scaled?
He's supposed to be ONE head taller than Prime, not to tower him. There's no alt mode scale in the MP line.
>>
>>5384205
>He's supposed to be ONE head taller than Prime

Scale has never been consistent in Transformers, whether in the toys, the cartoons, or the comics. Hating on a toy that can work with MP scale or CHUG scale or whatever the fuck you want to work with is stupid. You think it's too big, that's your subjective opinion. It doesn't invalidate that it's a good toy.
>>
>>5384216
>I'm absolutely clueless about the MP line.

>You think it's too big, that's your subjective opinion

>It doesn't invalidate that it's a good toy.

>Go research the subject.
"Sixshot changes sizes often in IDW's Devastation mini-series. Sometimes he is shown being the size of a normal Transformer, but other times he is depicted as being about the size of a gestalt."

Also, which Prime is Hex supposed to be just a head taller than? The Deluxe one? The Voyager one? The legends class one? The CW one?

Which UM should Hexatron be a head taller than? The Generations one? The MP one? The white repaint one?

That's why it's subjective. Your 'one head bigger' is based on an inconsistent reference.

Does Hexatron represent Sixshot well? He's got the colors, he's got the guns, he's got the transformations. He updates it with a modern look and with modern articulation. Objectivelly, it's a good toy. When you start nitpicking the size and the greebles, you're just acting like an asshole trying to justify why you don't like it.

I cant stress this enough. Smaller heads would look weird

They didnt design a Metroplex toy and then just made its head bigger, SD designs dont work like that.
The entire body is stubbier in order to show a cuter appearance. Do you want a "normal" metroplex with stubby proportions? it would be weird as fuck
>>
>>5387028
I keep seeing this complaint get posted and it's starting to drive me up the wall. "Call me when they make some regular sized heads", they cry. People in this camp can't seem to wrap their heads around the concept that SD proportion apply to more than the head. Making the head smaller is not going to magically make the toy perfect.

tl;dr stop bitching that a company should go against its design philosophy. If you want tiny city-bots, then bitch that Iron factory or DX9 haven't made any yet.

Test shot vs Production shot
It looks a bit better in the test shot but it's still odd looking. Though, I won't be buying Severo either way, I jumped the Lost Exo Realm ship for Planet X's Vulcan, who is amazing.
>>
Has anyone had an issue with their Cynicus of the chest piece just falling off straight out of the box?

His chest falls off, followed by his arms and head/neck falling out of their sockets. Even when I hold the chest on, the upper ball joints in his shoulders are incredibly loose and just swing around wherever gravity takes them. I can't get him to hold his arms up. Is this an issue with any other Cynicus (I haven't heard about it) or did I get a really bum QC issue? Was the piece originally supposed to be glued, or were the two little screw tips visible inside his chest supposed to hold the front chest piece on?
>>
>>5387834
That sounds like something went very wrong. I'd probably try to get a replacement. Mine is more or less really stiff outside of the ball joints for the backpack/scope parts.
>>
>>5387741

Ok, the production model looks so much better.

And the Planet X stuff isn't bad, it's really pretty damn good. I just don't want the FoC version of the Dinobots, I'm looking more for CHUG-ish stuff.
>>
>>5387856
Now that I know that, I'm going to try and get a replacement. I looked closer at the front chest piece and there's a big (read: tiny but lumpy) piece of mold flash on one of the curved 'rail' bits inside it. Poked at it and it seems to be peeling off, but I doubt the chest will hold on anyway.

This is my first purchase from MMC and though I know this can't be a very common thing I'm still sad.

Should I be contacting MMC or the retailer I got it from though?
>>
>>5387883
Contact the retailer, what youre describing is not the norm. Ask them for a replacement.
I have Cynicus too and just like >>5387856
says, mines very tight all over and isn't floppy at all.

FoC had a different design aesthetic is all. Now, I like the FoC designs, a lot. The games were great, the designs were great. All I'm saying is, the Dinbots I want aren't the FoC ones. They're not the kind of CHUG I'm looking for.

And I also think CHUG is more based in the G1 stuff.

>What are paint applications
>What is RoM and poseability afforded by aforementioned parts count

If you can't appreciate the difference between a $20 Hasbro devastator limb and a $100 MMC Feral Rex limb you really shouldn't be in the third party toy hobby.
>>
>>5389507

150 bucks isn't too bad considering I have no interest in a full team of dinobots. I still haven't decided what grimlock I even want.

>>5389528

Vulcan looks really good. Just a super quality FoC voyager figure that's leader sized. Vangelous does a pretty good review for it.
>>
>>5389514
>trying to justify the exorbitant costs

I mean, it's a collector thing. Of course it's going to be overpriced. It's a hobby, it appeals to people in a hobby, it's a niche market. Same as shit like Warhammer mini's, which are also hilariously overpriced hunks of plastic.

But shit, theres far more complex things out there in the real world than a toy made of plastic, that go for less.
>>
>>5389650

Of course it's a niche market. Third party companies know they can charge out the ass for this stuff.

I just can't stand sour grape poorfags who act like 100 dollars on a single, quality piece is something absurd when they blow the same money on a ramshackle hasblow CW combiner that looks, plays, and poses like hot garbage.

"Poorfag" isn't even accurate. There's people in the official TF thread that have +30 strong CW combiner displays that are worth more than my entire collection. That's fine with me. If people want to spend money on that shit then it's cool, your cash. But in the next breath they'll take halfhearted stabs at 3rd party companies charge 70 bucks for something like Commodus or Sigma.

Quantity>Quality is the prevailing attitude that I don't quite get with 3rd party haters. They'd rather have three shit toys than one really good one.
>>
>>5389514
>What is quality
alot of these things break

>What is parts count
lots of toys out there have more parts but cost less

I can make similar arguments for your other points.
These things cost alot because their runs are limited. There are alot of great 3P toys, but quit pretending they're the best toys ever
>>
>>5389703

>alot of these things break

Anything can break. Plenty of 'things' break. But on average a quality 3rd party figure will survive more drops than a hasbro figure of equitable size because of quality construction.

>lots of toys out there have more parts but cost less

Do they transform in an intricate way while also being good looking vehicles and robots?

Limited runs is a fact of life with these things, sure. But it's not the sole reason they're expensive. Quit equating MP/3rd party toys to Hasbro garbage please. You reek of plebian when you do so.
>>
>>5389710

>>5389966
I still feel it's immensely lazy to just have combiner kibble with no other purpose. I'm fine with it being a separate piece from the figures, but it should turn into a weapon or a construction piece. I'd even be fine if it turned into some sort of porta potty, construction sites always have those.
>>
>>5389980
Well I look at it like this. He's going to be Devestator 95% of the time on peoples shelves so it doesn't seem like a big deal to me.
>>
>>5389991
I never really liked that logic. It feels like making excuses to me. If the only mode people cared about was the combined form, what's the point in even making the individual robots? Just make a Devastator action figure with high articulation.

If you're going to go through the trouble of engineering the robots and vehicles. You can afford to put a little extra time on being able to turn the forearms into a box with a port at the end for sticking things onto.

I think one or two things TFC Hellbat's got going for him is the level of complexity with the transformation, the level of detail, as well as the fact that the robot mode doesn't stick out too much while in vehicle mode.

I love the HasTak Silverbolt as much as the next guy, but I think it's fair to say his robot mode sticks out in vehicle mode like a sore thumb.

I'm going to have to return this thing or something. It's not broken but there's no way to remove the nosecone without breaking that little clip unless you can get the kind of leverage the directions ask for.

Why didn't they just use a 3mm post or something? Why use a clip?

>>
>>5390386

As is the same with cars, guns, or any other piece of machinery. There's a balance between three-step CW Devy limb transformations and something like Evila Star levels of panel nightmare.

I love complex transformations. Complex doesn't necessarily equate fiddly or fragile in the same way simple doesn't equate reliability.

So how is the mini-Overlord?

..And why did they bother making a super tiny Overlord? Isn't he supposed to be pretty damn beefy?
>>
>>5390547
He scales with the other Legends guys.

He's...okay, I guess. There's some really finnicky parts (see >>5390374) but once he's transformed he's a good figure.

Another big issue is the amount of partsforming. Overlord is always going to be a little bit partsformery by nature, but they didn't even try to limit it. There's a handful of loose parts in vehicle mode, and assembling the legs requires a bit of parts swapping. It's a very Sentai style transformation.

There's also the fact that there's several parts that just don't fit or peg in. There's a plate that technically should store on his back in robot mode, but the peg hole that holds it is split between two jointed plates so its super loose, and nothing pegs together at all in the base mode

But yeah, I could give all that a pass were it not for that dangerous c-clip. I'd probably give him a 6/10
