Is there a decent review out for PC-07, the kit that gives CW Constructicons better arms and guns? So far it seems that people are not thrilled with it for the price.

He's definitely a drop in quality compared to their last one, but still a really good toy in his own right. I mean, he's a dead on likeness to the character, and he has a TON of articulation for his size. It's just that some of his joints are surprisingly loose, and a lot of his plastic feels sort of... I don't know, thin? He was a mild letdown, but probably just because their swerve is one of my favorite transformers ever. He's great, if you don't mind the price you won't regret him.
>>

Even now I don't know if I should aim for Hasbro Devastator with the PE kits, or go for one of the third party Devastators.

Kind of ironic the latter costs s much more than the former.
>>
>>5366020

Takara. The 3P ones are fugly, and the Takara one fixes the individual bot issues.
>>
>>5366020
Go with Hercules. Even the Takara version is pretty hollow.

Get DX9's Hulkie. It's fully articulated and has absolutely zero partsforming between any of the modes and pulls it off at Legends scale.
>>
>>5366111
that headsculpt just kills this little guy
>>
>>5366111
>buy Legends size micro-Devy for $150
>or buy Takara Devy for $200

I mean, I can see an argument if you're severely lacking space and want a Devastator, but at THAT price, you might as well just spend the extra $50-70 get the Takara one. Or the Hasbro one, which is cheaper at most online outlets, if you don't care about elbows on some of the individual bots.
>>
Anybody have experience with DX9s Cocomone? How well does she scale with the MP transformers?
>>
>>5366145
For the lack of partsforming (which is in every other iteration as far as I can recall) it's great. And the scale is good if you don't want a giant toy dominating your room. I don't want to have to pull apart my shelving to fit the Hasbro version.
>>
>>5365814

Robot mode scale isn't always a massive clusterfuck with Transformers.
>>
So Badcube Sunsurge arrived today, pretty much perfection. Looks fantastic on my shelf alongside Sphinx and the carbots. Pretty fucking awesome year for carbots mate0s.

I hear Willis is "supposed" to be out in April, and Ironhide and Ratchet arrive Jan-Feb. That just leaves Trailbreaker (plz Badcube/FT), Cliffjumper and Jazz and I am officially done with collecting Transformers.

Kinda wish you could get the PE Superion chest upgrade for £25 shipped. It's £25+ p&p at Kapow, but for what you get that just pushes it above what I'm willing to spend. Hopefully whoever KOd the hands/feet (which are also perfect) will do that set too. £16 for the hands/feet was much more palatable.
>>
>>5365814
>>5366203

As far as i'm concearned, i don't want ALL my Transformers to be in the same scale, but I group them together acording to the scale they're at.

There's nothing wrong with wanting a Transformer to mesh with certain scale.

3P's overcharge like a motherfucker is how. They know they're for collectors, so they're going to ream your wallets poor little asshole.
>>
>>5367090

Naturally, but for 100 bucks your getting a very good standalone figure that huge. That's what I dislike about combiner limbs so much. They tend to be really compromise-y for lack of a better term.

These fags actually have somewhat of a justification being 100 bucks at seven inches and no throwaway garbage modes.

I really hope Generation Toy stick around to compete with MasterJew creations and the like. If GT can deliver huge, premium, no compromises shit like this at equal price points then other third party makers will have to step their game up.

I feel like I'm turning into a shill but I'm fucking hype for the wallet rape.

It's hard to design a combiner team that doesn't have some concessions made somewhere. You can't have everything, because they have to function as a limb, a robot, AND whatever the fuck else they turn into, and someone is always going to find something wrong with one (or even all, if it's poorly designed) modes. Somewhere, something is going to get sacrificed to make it work.
>>

Maketoy's is about $60 per bot. Herc's price is cheaper in ching chong land but every other reseller has to buy from Robot Kingdom similar to Perfect Effect. Whoever owns RK owns a number of the companies over there.

Pretty neat kit. It's especially nuts how close most of the guns are to the UW set, and how they all attach to the altmodes in similar ways to the UW version. Long Haul's new gloves are pretty ingenious, too. My only complaint is that Mixmaster's gun has nowhere to go in altmode unless you also have the kit with the cab cover. Weak.

This is my first upgrade kit, actually. It's pretty cool to see how the new parts worked differently for transformation. Hook has a backwards joint on his arms to attach them in altmode, and Scrapper has little tiny grooves that the little foot-tabs still attach to.

Haven't tried the set out in combined mode yet, though. I'm a little wary on how Scrapper's new arms will fare as heels.

Even considering engineering, there's far more expense to account for. There's research, making the steel molds, the machines that create the figures and paint them cause an exorbitant amount of money to run., then designing the packaging and finally the manual labor, things like putting the figures together, into packaging, shipping them off, ect.

I have him. Mine nearly falls apart if I pick him up wrong, his entire chest assembly won't tab together right. I'll probably never transform him again for fear of breaking his tank treads off, and his tank mode sucks anyway.

Personally I don't mind too much cause I don't really handle my toys much and just have em as display pieces - and I do like the way he looks.

His lacking (not KO level, but lacking) quality just makes him a tough purchase to justify.
>>
>>5368661
Apollyon is supposedly super fragile. Several people have broken theirs the first time they transformed it.

On the other hand, Hegemon has clear plastic on some of his joints iirc. Not a good idea.

That's why I'm kinda thrilled about GT's take on Devy. From what I've seen everything checks out. Great aesthetics, great build quality, great articulation, great modes, etc.

It's actually kind of suspicious honestly. There's not a single third party devastator that I don't have issues with that prevent me from dipping the 500+ dollars on. I really hope the connection joints end up being solid and all.

Cautiously optimistic and all that.

I'm thinking of getting a Feral Rex, and blowing $600 on a fat hunk of plastic at once is kind of a hard sell, but I'm worried if I don't do that, I won't get all of him. Places like BBTS don't even have all the limbs in currently.

>>

Steel Core is an original design, too, but it's still considered 3P. The BMOG toys were obviously meant to invoke the feel of Arms Microns. Walky and his friends are just faggots that refuse to associate with third parties because "they're evil thieves" or whatever.

Didn't the BMOG people rip a bunch of people off during the Kickstarter?

>>
>>5369746

I can't stand all the idiots that acts like third-party should just concentrate on doing original designs and characters. Not many are going to buy that shit at third party prices without any character sentiment or real fiction attached to it, even if the designs are really great.

Or the people that act like white knights standing up for the Transformers brand by being totally against third party, as if a multinational corporation could give two shits about them.

I still throw hundreds if not more dollars a year at Hasbro and Takara, but if there's a product out there that looks cool and fills a need in my collection, I'm going to buy it. Capitalism.
>>
>>5369774

Yeah there is little incentive for them to not do popular ones. My only 3p gripe is when they shoot for G1 aesthetics all the time.

I love TF but let's not pretend G1 designs are the pinnacle of the franchise, at least not until they got into Master force or later.

>>
>>5369787
>My only 3p gripe is when they shoot for G1 aesthetics all the time.
I'm with you on this, there should be more non-G1 stuff, but the reality is that that's the main audience here, people who grew up with G1
Also I think one reason why they stick to G1 is cause its easier to design for. I cant see many of these companies producing movie designs or anything like that

My gripe is when they use G1 designs but there's so much artistic liberty that it barely looks like the character (Maketoys) or the designs are okay but then they fuck up the colors (tfclub)
>>
>>5370420

I don't want movie designs, but some Beast Wars with updated visuals (like Leonidas) or more comic looking stuff would be nice.

I still like most G1 designs, but then the majority are (overly) popular characters like Prime, Megatron, Devastator, etc.

FR can stand but manipulating him gets hard as he is notably heavy. The footpads from Catilla help, but if don't have those I recommend getting rubber stick on pads for the feet to keep his legs more stable.

War Lord's thighs are too loose and Ares can't hold his own weight anywhere.
>>
>>5370570

Most combiners seem to have foot slippage issues though, official or 3P it seems. You just can't really put them on slick surfaces, you need cloth or rubber pads, or whatever as long as it isn't slick. I've got book shelves I display stuff on, and they're "rough" enough to prevent slippage.

Awkward proportions, part of the really bad hollow price guaging of 2012. It's not even a decent tetrajet (Cybertron's voyager mold is better). When I finally got the figure in hand, I was really disappointed.

Not really, it was part of the second wave, only the first wave had hollow parts issues. Just comparing the parts count between Starscream and Shockwave and you can see that

He's got wheels iirc, but the treads do not work. partly because of how they need to move to transform. It wouldn't be impossible (Maketoys' Hardhead pulls it off well from the pictures I've seen), but it'd push up the parts/complexity/price a fair bit.

It's available in a boxset for about $420 or so, actually a few places have it on sale for $300-something now.

They are re-releasing them now individually, but if you want the set, get the box set.
>>
>>5372108
>>5372125
Yeah, just wait for reviews on the official MP. Quakewave won't be hard to find now with the reissue, and MP Shockwave won't disappear overnight, and might even get a US release.
>>
>>5372159

I don't understand how so many of these companies could spit out combiner teams but not offer box sets (with a bit of discount) for them. Feels ridiculous to try and track everything down individually months after releases.
>>
>>5372167
Until recently, I'd say people were afraid to go in on super-high price tag items. Stores were probably hesitant to stock them.

It's only now that the scene is so established that producers and stores feel okay dealing with items over $200.

If you go all the way back to something like Hercules, people were not even sure it would finish. Each release basically funded the next one.

But you are right, there's no reason they couldn't make a box set later on.
>>
>>5372167
Because people are stupid and can't budget. That's why everyone will get 100 dollar limbs once every couple months but say "lol to expensive" when a boxset that costs the same or less then they eould individually.

These things are announced months or YEARS in advance and they can't get their finances sorted out in time?
>>
>>5372184
Speaking of can't budget, I always find it weird when you see people complain that something got delayed because they won't have the money for it. I'd get it if something came out early, as you have not had time to save. But I guess these people will just spend that money on something else if that toy doesn't hit and then be SOL when it does hit.

But hey, I do get that hundreds of dollars IS a lot of money for spending on TOYS, particularly if it isn't your main hobby. Budgeting isn't easy when you have less money, but some people feel just plain foolish.
>>
>>5372184

It's not always so advantageous to buy in bulk. Gravity Builder by Generation Toy, for example, can all be preordered for 600 dollars right now and comes with their take on megaton for free.

I don't know if all the toys are as good as the one I've seen, so it makes sense to dip 100 bucks in per limb so I don't end up with shit.

Established gestalts should totally fucking offer a discounted box set though. There's no incentive to buy them all at once when they haven't released them yet. It's effectively a kickstarter at that point.
>>
>>5372185

These are the same morons who complain about the timing of the Botcon venue announcements, as if they couldn't have just been saving $50-$100 in a fund all year in anticipation of it, or still have the money anyway if it turned out they couldn't make it for whatever reason.

> How the heck am I supposed to save with this little notice?!

> It's. Every. Year.

Well, unless this is the last year, but that's another discussion.

But yeah, most preorders windows initially open up what, around six months in advance?
>>
>>5372195
Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm in a fandom about grown men who play with toys. It's not so unthinkable to imagine that some of the people here might not be fully mature, responsible adults.

>>5372307

Current Hasbro scale in inches, is around Legends 5, Deluxe 6, Voyger 7, Leader around 9.

Those are rough estimates, it will be different depending on the actual figure. Some will be a bit shorter, some taller. Head kibble (ie: big antenna's, stuff like Insecticon jaws, etc) usually doesn't count for it's size, but obviously can affect the size because a 7" figure with an extra inch of antenna isn't gonna fit in a 7 1/2" display case.

Just remember they vary. I think more Legends cleave towards 4 1/2" than 5. And the sizes don't also really reflect how much BIGGER the next size up is. A Deluxe isn't just taller, he's much wider too than a Legends, and so on and so forth.

Now this isn't a particularly great pic or anything, but it does show a Legend's (Shockwave) next to a Voyager (Soundwave) and a Leader (Megatron) in pretty close proximity to show the size difference. Ironhide back there is a Deluxe, but since he's further back I don't think he's a good judge...

The whole set was going for $250 on Black Friday and they still didn't sell all of them out. My biggest beef is the complexity getting in the way of solid transformations, lack of range on the knees, and how thin he looks from the side when using the cannon as a bow. There's like a $10 add on part in the works that allows you to stick part of the cannon on the back to fill it out.

>>5372167
It's easier to swallow and justify $100 every few months than it is $500 in one go. Manufacturing wise the company recoups costs per figure per release. Since they don' manufacturer in as large of quantities it would take a lot longer for 5 figures to come out of one their factories at the same time. Historically it's also allowed them to correct defects with subsequent releases or replacement parts included with the next few members if something goes wrong with one.

Because G.Giant and Hercs limbs are unrecognizable, right? The official crew look like cheap playschool legends figures while 3p crews try to make theirs stand out or go for the comic aesthetics.

>Transformations not being overly complicated

They can't be. It's three or four step legends tier.

>Holds together better

I would fucking hope so. Afterthought vehicle modes, shitty bot modes that are both huge and anemic looking at the same time like an upscaled knock off of a legends toy, and even bad looking limb modes better fucking have a solid connection.

Giant is mostly fine. Except Bonecrusher which is way off in robot mode. TFC is trash. A bunch of the headsculpts are wrong, the entire green color is wrong, Scavenger and Bonecrusher don't have the correct chests. Official one still has FAR more likeness to the cartoon designs compared to either of them. If they got rid of the hollowness and made Long Haul and Mixmaster more accurate they'd practically be MP tier.

>They can't be. It's three or four step legends tier.
Yeah but that's all they need. Overfiddly crap for basic G1 characters just for a result that doesn't even look like the character that well is what's making me lose interest in 3P.

> Afterthought vehicle modes
???

only Hook and Mixmaster have mediocreish alt modes. Everyone else is fine.

You have extremely low standards, which is totally fine. I wouldn't be spending 100 dollars per limbx6 on GT's Fravity builder set if I didn't have really high fucking standards on what makes a good toy.

Build quality, intricate transformations that take more than 5 seconds, and no compromises take precedent for me over G1 slavish accuracy.

Most of the aesthetic deviation is the company trying to separate themselves from other 3P's attempts. It's a lot easier to make your Not Devastator different rather than the best.

CW Devastator reeks of compromises (In bot and vehicle modes) for the sake of the final product which is aesthetically painful for me. It's gangly looking and is very clearly huge for the sake of huge rather than intent. This isn't okay when so much is sacrificed to make the gestalt the feature presentation. It holds together well because it weighs nothing as a result of the hollow cheapness of it all.

I'm glad you like it and I'm not condescending when I say that. You get off paying 220 dollars for something I'm going to pay 600 for. That's great. But CW Dev is just sub par. Please spend the rest of the money you saved not buying a 3rd party devastator on something decent and make me feel better.

Isn't it great that people have options and can pick which one they prefer? Oh wait, I forgot, that's a bad thing.

I'm currently watching a KO DIA/Powered Commander set for Classics Prime, and my only concern is the quality of the KOs of that set; is the plastic quality/tolerances good? Paint apps reasonably accurate/not shitty? Also related, the left shoulder on my prime is loose as fuck, can't even hold the windvane gun at any angle, can I either disassemble/pose the shoulder a certain way to get some polish in there, or there a screw to tighten?

We were having a perfectly civil conversation about which Devastator we prefer. I appreciate your smug attempts to be above the conversation though.

This.
I owned Quakewave, it is a fine figure but it's definitely not up to par with the level of cartoon accuracy most MPs are putting up. Also, the official one not only looks more accurate, it also doesn't partsform.

Shockwave is the same price right? 150 dollars?

CW Bonecrusher does some pretty neat tricks for transformation, and is fairly involved.

I'll give you Scrapper and Mixmaster, though- they're pretty easy to transform.
