It depends where you find them. There are all kinds out there but the market has become very niche for anything more than your junk dollar bin stuff. It has become a lot of adult collectors now.

Target did a modern line last year, wal-mart is currently selling a space marine-star trooperish looking set, and Toys-R-Us has a couple of different buckets as well.

Hasbro tried to come out with a Star Wars line that did not sell as well as they expected and that was canceled in the last few months.

Basically kids are wankers cannot appreciate how fun it is to set up two massive armies and have them blow the crap out of each other.

It is called Elite Force. They were being sold for 10 dollars at the time. Now the prices are jacked up unless you do a bit of e-baying or google surfing. Check the link for pics and a description.

>>5362680
It is currently being sold in walmart at the moment. Go into the toy section and look for the Elite Corps stuff. Costs like 9 bucks for 96 soldiers in 3 colors with 8 or 9 poses and a bunch of accessories.

The whole appeal of these army men is that you could buy a bucket of the like, 50 of them and they also came with a Jeep, some trees, some fences, and some sandbag forts, and the whole thing cost like, $5.

New, more detailed molds, That would make collectionist go crazy too.
I remember having a slighter older soldier that was way more detailed than the rest and it was my favorite without doubt.

Probably more weapons, vehicles, and scenery props for them to interact with. I didn't had them as a kid so I usually just made buildings out of jenga blocks and it was really fun to see soldiers traped inside them after an attack.

Also does anybody know if a Gladiators or Samurai set exists? I haven't seen one yet and would love to have them.

Both gladiators and samurai sets do exist. There are quite a few of each in 1/72 scale and 1/32 scale(classic toy soldier size).

Also, there are plenty of detailed molds out there that you can buy. You just will not find them at your local toys r us or dollar store. You just have to go online and look for them.

Have this set. Definitely worth getting. I felt like a little kid again playing with them a few days ago when the house was empty and I had nothing important to do. The plastic quality is choice, there's like 6 or 7 molds with 4 guys of each per color, and the bonus vehicles and terrain are sweet. Not to mention their bases are wide enough that they never topple.

The thing that made Army men great was that you could have a ton of 'em relatively cheap. I think articulation would get in the way of that.

damn fine week,if i say so myself.

my Starcraft dudes arrived after a small mixup, bought myself the TRU skellies vs pirates bucket, and dug out my ninjas vs robots/army vs monsters.

Terrans/colonial marines vs Zergs and skellies is some fun shit

also, buckled to the pressure and let myself get super scalped on the corps bucket

the plastic addiction is real. totally eyeing up some of the fancier tanks, and the old school armored cars

Dude, trust me it is a problem. I have thousands of the damn things in my room. Half a wall is taken up with boxes and containers of plastic soldiers. Everything from Romans to Space Marines to the American Civil War...etc.

The struggle is real.

>>5388995
I always liked that set of ninjas. They are pretty chill.

>be a kid, about 8 or 9 years old
>naturally have army men I never knew where they came from
>had only one friend to play war with
>he always picked "the grenade guy" and "the crawling guy"
>the grenade guy would stand on one corner of the room and lob pin-perfect grenades at my guys, and the blast radius was always conveniently big enough to kill all my dudes
>crawling guy couldn't be shot because "he's on the ground, and none of your guys are aiming at the ground
>would smack my dudes in the shin with the butt of his rifle until they died of brittleshin
>I could never get a shot in because "I determined the accuracy of your shot and it would miss."

Kids these days don't know what REAL playing is.

The only fun part was melting them on a stick in the campfire and pretending I was some evil giant who tortured army men. The way they stayed lit on fire and melted was perfect. You could even pull them out at the right time and they looked like monsters.
>>
You guys know that Timmee still make the original army men right? And that they're not the same shit you get at wallmart, right? They've been making them in the USA since the 60s. They're better detailed and made of much better plastic. That being said, some new designs would be nice.

Seems like something I would love to do. Sadly I have no money to start and doubt you can get high gains from it. But will do it without a doubt If I ever get the money.

Honestly though, Lanard's army guys are a better choice IMO. They feel like a proper modernization of the classic molds, really good in terms of plastic and sculpt, and they're much more cost effective.

I am a fan of the new Lanard bucket. Hopefully they will be doing some more sets.

>>5394298
Yeah, there have only been a truely successful attempts in recent years.

Armies in Plastic is one of the biggest probably. They managed to produce a wide variety of sets that sell rather well. Unfortunately, they repeat molds in different colors which always kind of annoyed me.

>Yeah, there have only been a truely successful attempts in recent years.
I'm guessing kids aren't really into army men now, so the main goal would be colectionists.

>Unfortunately, they repeat molds in different colors which always kind of annoyed me.
That annoyed me a ton as a kid, I wanted each soldier to be unique in every way. I even named them.

I do not mind repetitive poses but I like my two sides to be different, especially if I am 17 dollars for 20 or so guys.

i.e. (American Revolution) Colonial troops are the same as the British are the same as the French are the same the Loyalists with the only difference being one is molded in blue, another in red, the third in white and the last in green.

>The thing that made Army men great was that you could have a ton of 'em relatively cheap.

That used to be GI Joe desu senpai. Or pretty much most 1/18 which was, at least in the case of GI Joe, specifically chosen as a scale to be cheaper than 1/6.
>>
And I am done!

Got my superscalpy Corps bucket, and promptly fell in love.

Do you know why?

The shade of tan they used.

Because of that, its fucking NOD vs GDI. 10/10 bucket would get scalped again

GI Joes are still cheap!

Three figures for $20! Fully painted! Fully articulated! Comes with enough accessories to arm an entire Mexican family!
>>
>>5359940
do they have specific names?

i am not from the US, and guess i owuld have to use amazon or other such places to order them
>>
>>5399639
>>5398913
Or you know, a kid can buy 3 single carded Lanrard figs for $3 a pop or a 3 pack with extra accessories for $15.

Really, ever since the Rise of Cobra film, GI Joe has just fallen into obscurity in terms of the standard market. Lanard's taken the mantle of "fun 1/18 scale soldiers" in the last few years.

Do you even know any kids?

Most kids today still know GI Joe, at least in my area, and i've handled kids at school day in and day out up until a year ago.
Despite what most people think, the GI Joe movies were still popular.

Lanard's crap is seen as budget crap, even by little kids. The Bravo Team and Peacekeeper lines are a step up from that, but even if kids don't buy GI Joe anymore, they've no brand recognition like GI Joe does, inspite of no shelf presense but at TRU.

The only way i don't see kids not knowing what GI Joe is if they weren't old enough to remember the Retaliation line on the shelves, which leaves out the majority of kids that aren't toddlers.
You have to remember that the majority of toys are bought by little kids and they're the ones making the decision on what they want, especially in lines starring favorite actors.

the shit box office take of part 2, the speed it hit DVD and the dollar theaters that carried it disagrees with you
>>
>>5401199
>>5401199
Rule of thumb, a movie needs to make twice its budget to be profitable.
GI Joe Retaliation made almost 3x its budget back, while Rise did not.
1 made $305 million.
2 made $375 million dollars.

Facts don't agree with you.

Those are American Civil War Zouaves by Armies in Plastic.

>>5400179
The target buckets are Elite Force and Pirates vs Skeletons. They are both the company BBI.

The Wal-Mart Bucket is called Elite Corps by company called Lanard.

The Toys R Us Buckets are called Pirate Adventures(skeletons vs pirates), Mythical(a bunch of green figures in various poses, including 3 different female poses), Knights, and a generic green vs tan army one.

All the buckets are under the brand of True Heroes/True Legends and are made by Toysmith.

The Hasbro Line is called Star Wars Command. They are discontinued but you can still find them on E-bay and Amazon.

Saw Alien vs. Colonial Marine army men as gamestop reward, used points, worst army men ever.........

Well, at least in my area, Joes have all but been removed from shelves in all my local stores. Lanard's shit's all I see kids buy here.
