The Fun Publications clubs have changed membership wording that your membership now ends at Dec 2016 instead of stacking on 12 months to your current membership. Word is Hasbro is pulling the license to be handed to the new group offering to do multiple bigger, better conventions around the world for Transformers.

WHAT is the legal status of the new TF Club runners being able to re-release older exclusives (BotCon & otherwise)?

i will miss it

Yeah because I'll sure miss the experience of waiting in line while a bunch of sweaty men not wearing deodorant walk around, and having to deal with that little troll Walky trying to sell me his books.
>>
>>5352651
You act like fan conventions won't still happen. The one year between the old guys and FunPub there was still essentially a Botcon.
>>
I just hope it means better prices. The cost for these fucking repaints is ridiculous.
>>
>>5352651
there will still be a BotCon, guaranteed. it just won't be run by funpub.

Fuck this.
Funpub does the best comics.

There's no pro-rating for memberships which would last less than 12 months. If you renew in July, it's the same price for a handful of issues as it is for someone getting a full year. Many renew in Feb as it's the unofficial "new" start of content for the Club newsletters.

Hasbro is a company that has always expressed more interest in profits than fans. They will reboot any franchise that isn't making money. They ignored bronies for 3 years because, surprise surprise, internet fanboys that draw porn never actually buy official merchandise.
>>
>>5352658
If it's run by a Chinese company, look at the price of Chinese exclusives. Hopefully they're not stupid and don't realize what the market will be willing to pay.

>>5352806
Whatever. It's just luck that we got what we wanted for a while. As soon as suits sabotage something, then act like it was the invisible hand of the market making something less profitable, I'm out. Nothing we can do about it, unless we want to be submissive consumers like MotU fans. We'll see how stupid things get.

Whatever. There's 3rd party products for now, and TFCon in Canada and USA at least for the north-east of North America.
>>
Oh no, now where will the fandom elite meet when they leave their mother's basement once a year?
>>
>>5352990
Big deal. Botcon exclusives are always lazy repaints. You might get a retooled head, which lately has been too small for the bodies. Being "deprived" of $50 repaints isn't something to get stressed over.

>but Botcon makes stuff that won't happen at retail

Number one, that's Hasbro bullshit & lies. Number two, it''s overpriced deluxes and if I won't pay $60-$90 for a 3P deluxe that's a new mold, I'm not paying it for a Botcon repaint.
>>
>>5353017
you forgot the guys who bring their mothers

There's always overpriced Japanese exclusives to fill the void.

>mfw the Funpub Defence Force is going all out with their "funpub a good con, they dindu nuffin" stance
>>
>>5352646
I love how this guy and probably others on TFW are surprised at this. Like, really? I saw this coming for awhile, and like another anon pointed out, its always been obvious Hasbro cares more about profits than fans and collectors. The quality in both the toys and shows has declined within the last few years following the release of the last movie, its been obvious to me anyways that the franchise was slowly going down the drain.

Not to say it won't come back again with the next movie, but even with that, its sad that the only thing keeping the franchise alive and relevant are the shitty CGI-fest of a film series.
>>
Oh, I hope Rik Alvarez gets the contract!
>>
>>5354395
>he doesn't expect a giant company to care about profits first and foremost

But you can also argue a big reason why the license is going away is the frequent bumbling of funpub. Remember the whole subscription service fiascos?
>>
>Dear Gender Graduate,

>I did once attend a lecture, given by a Primax Cluster Arcee about this topic. In her home dimension, the war had ended early relative to most dimensions, but lasted long enough for Cybertron to open relations with several organic planets. Arcee was a biologist protoformed with a male frame, and sent to observe some of these worlds post-war. On one world they had gone onto, Arcee stumbled upon what organics call "gender dysphoria disorder" and studied this phenomenon closely. Originally Arcee was fascinated by the organics "transformation", but eventually realized her interested stemmed from her own transgender nature. Going back to Cybertron, she released a document on this, and soon many other Cybertronians took on her research. There were differences in how Cybertronians interacted with this new idea-the Decepticon Overlord, for example, is what some would call genderfluid. Others referred to themselves with feminine pronouns, but felt no need for reformatting, such as the Decepticon Howlback. And others experienced massive dysphoria, as Arcee did, a result of a disconnect by the programming for the brain chip and spark by Vector Sigma and the CNA of the body forms. Those who chose do do so underwent reformatting and replace bits a pieces of their genetic code to help the process along.

>As for the former, she did mention Archadis, a later day Predacon protoformed in a female body, as a transgender male. And let us not forget that there are entire streams with little concept of gender.

t-thanks, FunPub

And boy do I miss it. Now everything has to be some insightful commentary about transpotato lesbians from kenya. I think adding more fembots is fine because it adds some variety and means we can have some new characters but I'd prefer we not go on these long winded rants about gender in a series that is trying to sell toys to kids and manchildren.

>>
>>5355692
They'll just use Funpub's fax machine. Not like they'll need it anymore.
>>
>>5355694

Look.

The entire point of the Fax machines was yo ensure only older TRUE collectors had access, because youngins have no idea what a phone line is much less a fax.

So we went all digital and had to gradually increase the price over the years to keep the kids out.

Unless you're stupid, the question isn't profits vs collectors but _more_ profits vs collectors. Some of the shortcuts they take for that extra fraction of a cent per thousand units are just stupid. There's fucking price parity with Takara at this point and we have nothing to show for it.

This isn't just FP dicksucking (I'm sure there is some of that) this is probably mostly just the usual Chicken Little reaction.

FP is no longer going to do Botcon? Clearly this means no conventions or exclusives EVER AGAIN. There's no way another company couldn't just come in and provide the same or better service, nope.

Seen that. Why they ever thought gold plastic was a good idea is beyond me. More gold bots have been lost to GPS than famine, water and cosmic rust combined.
>>
>>5356545
To be fair, it did take a few years for most GPS toys to break. It's not like they knew it when they made the first batch. That doesn't excuse the continued use, but it's not like Black Zaraks were breaking out of the box in the 80s.

From another, more cynical, viewpoint, they are selling toys, and most kids keep toys for a handful of years at most on average. So as long as it lasts a few years, 90% of the intended audience wouldn't even notice.
