Those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Group Build
So due to the general uproar about this, I'm going to role with the top two voted colors, purple and pink, as being the secondary colors.
So, to reiterate, for this group build
Primary: white
Secondary: purple or pink (or both, fuck it)
Trim: gold
Due date: February 1st.
Email: [email protected]
>>5345664
Stylish gundam! 10/10
Fuck the haters
>>5345670
Fuck off with your foot fetish CP
Ya know,I was having a good time on my build of the Megaman kit Santa sent me. Until I came to find two integral pieces were broken. God damn you, Kotobukiya! Fix your QC!
>local store in australia recently significantly lowered their gunpla prices
>can buy a jesta for 24 dollars, old price was 36+
>1000 yen kits being sold at an average of $20
MGs are still overpriced last time I checked but now it's actually economical to buy from them, assuming it's just one kit at a time.
>>5345733
How expensive is shipping directly from the nips to you guys? Does straya cunt you over in import taxes?
>>5345752
It's actually pretty cheap as far as I can tell.
>>5345704
Koto kits are the worst. Whether its build complexity or general QC, they seem to disappoint.
>>5345771
I was curious so I compared shipping prices up until the 4 kits
burgers can get registered SAL and cheaper courier pricing. SAL and EMS stayed the same
>>5345780
I sent them an email about it. Hopefully they can replace the two broken bits. If not - well, I guess I have a one-legged megaman on my hands. Even now he stands surprisingly well.
>>5345733
>local store in australia
Think I know what you mean if you are in SA, its pretty fair for hg prices
>>5345752
Shipping isnt terribly bad, especially SAL. 4 HGs would be around 17-20 dollars (considering current exchange rates).
Import taxes might be introduced by 2017 if the government gets their way though.
What are some body diverse kits?
I don't have to make my pilots to grow up with only skinny mechs as idols.
19 down, 1 more to go...
And I haven't even begun to clean them up.
Does anyone have some sweet 1/100 Barbatos pics? Sorry, I'm a bit slow on the uptake with the new series, and I was hoping to see some pics. Love all the new suit designs unlike Recognista's stuff and I was wondering if anyone was showing them off. If not, I'll head to Dalong.
Where do you guys get Gundam news nowadays? I can't seem to find it anywhere, should I just keep checking the general?
>>5345856
Whats it for?
>>5345867
Halo guy
>>5345867
Zrinyi I
>>5345860
Head over to Dalong, or just type "1/100 barbatos review" into Google since there are several to choose from.
>>5345888
Figures. Thanks though!
Say, what's this exact shade of green usually referred to as in military paints? Was gonna pick a jar of it up for a project.
>>5345894
Usually olive drab.
>>5345892
Wait wait wait, I thought the gimmick of the Iron Blooded Orphans HGs was that they had inner frames. Now I see that's not the case...?
>>5345894
There are over 100 shades of green in military paints. Look at paint chips.
>>5345905
Except for the feet the graze and barbatos have full, if not lineart accurate, frames. The rest have had partial frames.
>>5345905
I think you need your eyes checked, possibly your brain too, they all have some form of inner frame. I'm not sure how much Gusion/Man Rodi have but the least inner frame on what dalong has reviewed so far is hyakuren, and even then it has more inner frame than most IBO HGs
Hmmm... Master Chief was 35 bucks, Master Gundam was 45.
Fucking Halo licensing costs.
So my mid year campaign prize arrived today. It turns out that only the gold parts are plated. The rest are that gloss injected swirly plastic.
I know,
>nubs on plated kits
I can fix them up a bit, and the plated look fits with the Tryon 3's theme.
>>5345927
pearl? that's disgusting.
pics please
>>5345926
How much does the level 3 one cost over there. I hear it's closer to MG but not quite. Sprukit shit does suffer from the brand tax a bit
>>5345932
Everything but the yellow/gold is like this.
>>5345941
Its especially confusing because IIRC this is what it looked like when they were promoting it at conventions.
>>5345937
Dont know about the level 3, they only had the level 2's on the EB I visited and the website.
I think I've seen they have the Superman and Batman too, but not entirely sure.
I'll check if Zing has some when I can be bothered driving to Northlands or Epping.
>>5345945
no thats the expo one
this is the mid year campaign one, they're two different kits
>>5345945
Ohhh, it's gloss, not plated. That's alright. Nubs wouldnt be too terrible that way.
Lucky you won and got it before xmas.
>>5345917
Gusion and Man Rodi didn't seem to have inner frames, but I could be wrong. Sorry.
>>5345937
The level 3 is more like a big hg in build, but its pg sized and comes with two pistols, the assault rifle, and is the only one to come with thr battle rifle. It is also taller than mg sazabi and closer to pg. It also comes with a stand.
So I picked up this sexy bitch and figured I'd actually try to get one of my models looking presentable. Thing is, the panel lines on her are fucking tiny and and I'm not sure if it would be best to roll with an ultra fine copic (which I know I can get) or an enamel wash (which I don't know if I can get and am too stupid to make).
What are you guy's preferred methods for getting color on/in retardedly small bits?
Also while I'm here I might as well ask: I'm going to need some white to get her looking box accurate, but I have always had just the most absolutely horrendous problems with white paint in the past. Any suggestions for making that shit not look like... well, shit?
>>5345961
They do.
>>5345941
>That line
You can see the exact moment where the molten plastic from 2 different gates meet.
More obvious with these kind of pearl plastic and 'silver' or 'gold' plastic.
>>5345970
panel wash
>>5345964
Well fuck me, isn't she pretty. I'll have to add that to my log. 32$ isn't too bad for that size.
>>5345985
Where are you seeing it for $32?
>>5345970
Mistakes can always be corrected. Try the liner first but if it doesn't look that well go for an enamel wash. (plenty of guide just google it but it's basically a very thinned enamel using lighter fluid)
If the area is too small I just handpaint and wipe off the excess.
For the white use some white primer first. But i remember a guide on making the stylet more like the illustration just using white paint straight on the parts. (can't remember where, it was mentioned in the shinki thread a pretty long time ago)
>>5345973
Ah, fuck me. That's what I get for looking at the wrong info too early.
My bad.
>>5345994
Here's hg gusion. In the series it is supposed to be based on the same frame as barbatos but fod the hg they obviously made concessions to the frame design to make it work.
>>5345856
Why are you saving all the runners?
Also god speed, I will never have the patience to build individual track links.
British Columbia bro, I kinda fucked up again.
>>5345991

>>5346031
Well not much, I was just not home to pick it up (no one else was either), I've got a notice yesterday and today saying they'll try again, but today's says I can call them for pickup so I'll probably do that
now the 23$ they're asking for is another story
>>5346126
Strike RM with all the packs (just finished the Aile this morning). How is it even possible that it can stand up on it's own with all that shit on it.
Fucking golf clap, holy shit.

Oops, left the >>, stupid me.
Yo ryan from md, bro i got your package today! I promise ill wait till christmas since itll most likely ne the only thing i open that day, but i feel kinda bad since your gift is still on its way
>>5345973
Is there gonna be a 1/100 man rodi? It'd be a shame to let one of the frame designs go to waste when they've shown it. There's something about man rodi I like over gusion, dat mono eye is great.
Also how is the gundam frame supposed to fit inside Gusion? I wonder if they'll cheat the 1/100 as well
>>5346136

Them feet are unyielding. Why cant they make more feet like this?
>>5346126
It's my first time shipping out of the country and I fucked up, my bad. If it'll make you feel better, I'll grab you a $20 game on steam too.
>>5346228
Yo, what's the blue one on the left? Harute?
>>5346305
Yeah, Harute with some Kotobukiya missile bits in place of the fuck huge cannons and a EZ-SR backpack
>>5346228
Is that InfernoCopu I see hiding in the corner?
>BanzaiHobby xmas sale
>SD Unicorn Gundam $8
I don't need it
>>5346337
It's a nice kit if you can get over the "kiddy" meme
>>5346352
Kiddy meme? You mean the idea that SDs are for kids?
>>5346228
>It's my first time shipping out of the country and I fucked up
How did it even get like that though? Not that anon but I'm Canadian and I've ordered a ton of things online and never been hit with duties for kits.
>>5346168
Fuck that was quick. I hope you like what I sent.
>>5346170
Yeah, man rodi has really grown on me too. I'm gonna dra-c one up with propellant tanks for legs and a gun arm.
For gusion I assume that they detached the limbs, added more frame around the base body's frame, then stuck the limbs back on and armored it up.
>>5346228
Eh, I'll take the hit, I'm happy so long as I get the gift. I've got enough steam games to last me a lifetime anyways, damn sales and bundles
Are the Yo-kai Watch kits any good?
They look like they have limited articulation and lots of modification to make them look at least half good.
fug hobbywave is out of cards, any canada or NA friends know where to get campaign cards for non rape prices
>>5346403
There are a few hobby shops in Canada that ship domestically, but weren't you being raped by the exchange rate buying from hobbywave anyway?
>>5346381
Ill wait to open it, thanks again man
>>5346424
yeah at 75~~ cents to a usd it's pretty bullshit. and then yen too. america needs another "accidental" collapse of economy and then the influx of american buyers going to canada will diamond coat our dollar.
>>5346465
Yea but it must be good for Canadian business. Other countries will try to capitalize on your weak currency and buy disproportionately higher units of your... Maple syrup?
>>5346488
It does help attract American businesses up here, especially things like film productions where they make a killing on tax breaks and a weak dollar. As consumers though it's a pain in the ass.
>>5346488
you would think so but unfortunately the only ones really aware of canadian current affairs are us canadians and with western oil fields being shut down one after another and people in the east "apparently" unable to find jobs the canadians lose out in the end.
>>5346403
adding to this, if i order from gundam planet but live in canada will their cards work for me?

I don't know, but I wouldn't get my hopes up just in case. Although the GP series MGs really are in dire need of Ver. 2.0s.
All I want is just a RG GP03.
Got the kit today and she looks nice without the skirt armor
To anyone who has MG 3.0, I need some help.
Since the copper stickers on the elbows are infamous for peeling off, that means that there's no tolerance there for another layer of anything on the part.
Therefore, am I correct in thinking that if I plan to paint it, I should sand it down (by say, half a mm) to ensure the paint doesn't get scraped off by the bending movement of the elbow?

>So because it's Christmas, B&N have been making big stacks of gunpla alongside the toys. It makes me wonder if they are going to go on clearance afterwards with the other christmas stock to clear space after the holidays.
>>5347197
Or they think they'll sell well during some pre-Christmas rush but they don't have shelf space so they're just tossing them out.
Do you want to make a Mudrock?
Come on lets go and build
I never see you anymore
Come out of lurking
It's like you've gone away
We used to be best buddies
And now we're not
>>5347208
Yeah, but its what they will do with the excess after christmas. B&N always stocks up on a ton of stuff for christmas and then a lot of it goes on big clearances afterwards. They didn't bother getting in big stocks of gunpla in last year so I'm curious as to what will happen with it this year.
It may be a good chance to grab a kit or two at 50% off if they do it.
Thought exercise for you guys.

So I planned on making a 1/144 Galbady, but I'm already getting lost. one thing I could definitely use is modified Rick Dias arms and maybe legs, but that's all so far.
>>5347360
V-fin broke off when I was putting it back after top coating it, only one connector broke though thankfully so it should be easy to glue it on. Should I use Tamiya extra thin cement? Or is there something better with a thin tip for detailed application?
>>5347368
That's what I personally use for broken bits, though you might want to get the peg out.
>>5347378
hmm, I was thinking just putting glue in the hole since the break point should match up nicely, I'm afraid I'll warp the plastic more if I try to pull it out to glue it together, and really hard getting it straight

What about the Nu? I have been really keen on that design but I heard there were some weird issues with it.

I don't have one (yet) but i've heard a lot about its hands being pretty fragile and Funnels not connecting to each other properly.
So I'm trying to brush paint some stuff and my paint is getting...stringy
what the fuck.
I'm using acrylics and thinning with rubbing alcohol. Am I doing it wrong? Paint is Vallejo model color gunmetal grey.
Never done any serious painting before.
>>5348541
Yeah 'cause you fucked up. Vallejo absolutely doesn't thin with alcohol. Grab a small bottle of their thinner, or the big bottle on amazon (it says it's for airbrushes but it works).
>>5348541
Vallejo model color is water based. Alcohol gums it up.
hey La Habra annon your package got here yesterday, haven't opened it yet tho.
your present should arrive tomorrow and ill send that shit out pronto

>Big for an MG

>Light grey parts look nice
>Quite heavy, feels very solid
>Comes with a (very sturdy) stand
>Posable hands
>Comes with waterslides
>Funnels don't connect together very well, flops around when attached to the backpack
>Hands are cool but quite fragile and very fiddly
>Stand articulation isn't great, even at the farthest-back position Nu looks like he's lunging forward
>The shiny stickers on the green psycoframe parts are torture
>Beam rifle sags down when held
>>5348541
I would just thin it with water
alcohol is for removing paint not thinning it
I feel like half of the parts in this kit comprise the suspension and running gear.
>>5348567
Some acrylics (like vallejo liquid gold and Tamiya) are alcohol based and require it to be properly thinned.

>>5348676
Bronco kits are the best.
>>5348679
I'll live with my shitty 1:72 trumpeters
I can already imagine all the things that could go wrong with me building those tracks.
>>5348713
Most of Bronco's tracks click together, but they do make some that you have to pin them together.
>>5348716
Please tell me, are those metal rods?
Gonna get cracking on this today. I've only ever built Gundams before, but it seems it'll be about the same sort of experience. Painting the super tiny ass characters that come with it, however... Ooof.
>>5348727
nice, I've still gotta make the second one of mine. maybe a GM this time?
>>5348735
That looks awesome, man. Nod to Char's Zaku?
>>5348741
damn right.
>>5348726
No, plastic.
>>5348092
i think he just laid out all the 2015 kits for a picture. that looks like his work table considering the STALKER poster thing that's present on most his pictures.

superglue the balljoint going into the palm that allows the wrist to angle for the bazooka, the materials wont allow it to bind the parts together so it only makes it stiffer. this solves the limp wrist problems.
tighten up the top peg of the double knee joint, it's the weaker of the two pegs it rotates on, use a slight layer of glue on there and let it dry of course, then reassemble.
i glued the funnels together, cant be fucked to have them taking up space displaying them flying everywhere,
hands are that fragile, ive hamhanded mine and they're fine. never had any trouble with them on any kit since they were first released with the Nu ver ka, i even bought a decent knockoff set for my MKIII but those i actually did pop apart when trying to work the joints loose, and doing what i mentioned earlier with the glue also solved the limp wrist problem on them, and i also coated the main balljoint that goes into the forearm itself because it was a loose fit.
so yeah do what i said and bingo, your nu has no more problems. except the green psycoframe stickers, those were the worst part of the kit because tiny stickers fitted into angled bits.
>>5348788
oh forgot to mention, once the weaker top knee joint is tightened up and funnels permanently fixed together, nu doesnt have any issues standing on its own with them attached, though the way they attach to the backpack sucks so theyll fall off due to their own weight.
oh yeah and i also glue the worthless foot joint, it hardly allows any movement for the front half of the feet, and if anything, was detrimental to stability when posing, so Nu's feet are flat and fixed for good.
NOW it's a super sturdy kit.

Post pics when you get to it!

"Creator Works Series 1/35 Mechatro WeGo No.04 Warm & Cool [Shinonome Lab Ver] Plastic Model" AKA some robots whose color pallette is inspired by the anime/manga Nichijou, it includes models of two main characters + their cat as well. Pic related.
>>5348788
shit didnt notice typo
hands arent'*** that fragile.
>>5348772
Mechatro WeGo is an original design from Hasegawa with no real source material. Its a robot designed as a safe transport for kids back and forth from school in the countryside. It's supposed to operate like a Segway mixed with a claw game.
Hasegawa had the Nichijou manga artist do some boxart for them since his simple and colorful style fits the idea of the machine and they did a special nichijou version.
>>5348952
It was just released a few days ago, so I dunno how likely that is. In fact, Nichijou performed somewhat poorly, so the fact it got new merch after a couple years was a shock to its fanbase. If you really want this particular set, now's the time. Or you could just grab one of the generic ones, maybe.
>>5349052
This merch is tied directly to the manga, not the anime. The anime did poorly due to Kyoani's fucked up BD release, the manga does okay but iirc the author ended it recently.
>>5349064
Ah, my mistake. Time & time again I've seen people on 4chan say the series did poorly, never being specific to either version. Glad to hear it's not wholly unappreciated or whatever.
>>5349070
"The series did poorly" is short for "The BD didn't sell". IIRC they had the brilliant idea to only put one episode per disc or something while 2-3 is the norm so it ended up being almost twice as much as other anime of similar length, which are already overpriced. Anyone actually interested in it didn't feel like paying that much for it.
The studio was also banking on it being a lot more popular than it ended up being and sunk a ton of budget into the series, so when it ended up being just okay in popularity rather than explosive they were fucked.
>>5349074
>"The series did poorly" is short for "The BD didn't sell"
Well, not short for, but you get the idea.
>>5349074
>>5349079
Got you. Thanks for the insight, man. Don't wanna veer off too much here but it really surprises me it wasn't that big of a deal there. It's my favorite of all time, so I'm biased, but still, seems to have the right formula. Maybe it should've come a few years sooner.
Anyway, I'm two arms in on the pink/cream "warm" edition bot. Pretty simple build so far. Gonna be such a bitch gluing/painting Hakase/Nano/Sakamoto though... Especially considering I'm kind of an amateur whose not done much more than weathering/lining, paint-wise. Gonna have to give the guide a going over again.
Too bad it's too late for Christmas Ornament group-build.
>>5347383
You severely understimate the number of people who want a wing zero custom 2.0
>>5348727
I want one and I will be buying it the first chance I can. It is too cute. The Nichijou is just a bonus.

Does anyone else have the Ver. Ka Unicorn Full Armor and find the joints way to stiff and fragile to move around? Having way too much trouble trying to pose this thing.
>>5349089
>How rivet counters view Trumpeter kits
Anyone build a Valvrave kit? Considering one for the group build
>>5349417
I feel the joints are stiff but are still alright.
Though the ankles can't really move them much despite all the parts that goes into them so standing poses is hard.
Shoulders doesn't move much too.
The transformation really cuts down on the posing choices.
>>5349434
Better to have stiff joints than loose ones m8
Use a stand.
>>5349434
This shit makes me so jealous regardless. That was my first MG model and it was far before I started using tools. Looks like total shit and I'm tempted to buy another one to redeem myself, but I'm prob gonna wait for the green frame PG.
Would you buy a model kit of two lesbians that fused into a phoenix jet fighter thing?
>>5349302
I wish. My Christmas tree has nothing on it right now because if I put anything on it the cat knocks the tree over trying to get to the ornaments.

I've been meaning to pull the trigger on a few kits but then remember I put those on my secret santa list, I know that feel
For nubs: filing/sanding or craft knife?
>>5349669
Both. Craft knife first, then sanding down the little bit left.
>>5349677
is sanding preferable to metal file?
>>5349677
What grit of sandpaper is good?
>>5349690
600, 1000, 2000, 3000.
In that order.
>>5349750
so us all of them, or just 3000 since it's the best?
>>5349752
......Are you trolling?
>>5349752
all. Start on the lowest and work your way up.
>>5349750
Thanks.
>>5349762
Oversanding is something that will happen if you are not careful or just starting. You'll get better with more kits and will know which grits you prefer to use.
I for one start with 600 then the 3m sanding sponge but others will have twin own method.
[No spoiler]I still oversand sometimes
If I'm using Windex as a thinner for vallejo paints should I also get the vallejo retarder?
How much more would it help?
I'm hand-painting btw
>>5349954
Don't use windex if you're just hand painting. You can use regular water to thin vallejo for that. People mis in windex when they want to airbrush it as it helps prevent it from drying out in the brush. As for how much retarder you don't really need it for basic hand brushing either, but a drop or two is usually enough.
Was building a Guntank.
Lost one of the shoulder polycaps.
The srpue code is PC-123. The polycap is labelled E. What's the technical name for this type of joint and which polycap set should I get from HJL to replace it?
>>5350131
I've always had bad luck using windex while airbrushing too. I wouldn't use it for anything other than cleaning the brush after you're done.
Finished this last week. I posted some progress pics before, here's a full shot. I've probably spent more time on this kit than any other I've ever built.
