It wasn't too expensive getting them as they released, with the ami discount. All at once it'd be a pretty big chunk of change though.
I regret not getting into LL! sooner, because I'd love to get more of their scale figures at lower prices but I really enjoy it... Nozomi is my favorite so I'm thinking of mostly getting stuff of her and just trying to get full sets of the nendos and figmas since it's less expensive.

Well they certainly did this to mirror the idols' base card. (Technically school uniform wasn't her base, but I think they changed it in SS. Not sure though, I don't play it) so I think it has certain charm especially for the long-time players.

I actually would really like to know specific things to look for when looking at toys. To make sure I don't buy bootleg ones. I am not happy that I bought a bootleg, I am just surprised at how mad people got at me for buying my first ones.
I actually sat here and looked at her today compared to my Yukimura and Masamune. Couldn't really tell much of a difference but I did see the materials are different.

That's usually the best way. After you've owned a couple legit ones and you feel a bootleg, they're definitely off. They feel like the plastic from 20 year old toys and they don't have the same finish on them.
It usually comes across well in pictures since the finish makes them catch light better, but it can be real hard to tell without a side by side comparison if you're new.

First look on MyFigureCollection to see if there's a bootleg of the Nendo.
Also, when you're buying online, check from where they come. If it's China or Hong Kong, don't buy it, it's 100% sure a bootleg.
Finally, look a the box design, some are literally crap, some others really look like real. Look for the pictures on the back(the colors should seem strange), and if you're really not sure, look for an holographic sticker on the front, normally it's THE thing that tells you it's the real deal.
Also, don't think you made a great deal when you bought a Nendo for 15 bucks, they're normally over 40 bucks and over, like Red who is 400$ i think on Amazon.

I will keep those stickers in mind. All my other figurines have some sort of sticker which I looked up and showed they were real ones. These 3 I bought and Miku was the only one in the box that looked a bit off.
I looked up Yukimura and Masamune and they have the same box as the originals.

It also depends on which nendos you buy. You can find several new ones for under 3,000 yen (before shipping) on amiami. And naturally the older they are, the most expensive they can get. I paid about $67 cdn for leonmichelle, but she did come with a lot of extras so I didn't mind that too much. though I am glad that I got millhi cheaper.

and the paint often isn't either. Paint apps will be often quite uneven, and the joints won't match the skin tone of the figure. I made the same mistake you did when I first got into nendos, and regretted it. Mind you it would be great to show you the flaws in the bootleg so I'll take some comparison photos for you. Even though it was my first, I could tell it was a bootleg because the parts didn't properly fit together. I'll definitely take some photos and point out some more about it tonight, since I feel pretty well versed in the subject. Good Smile has a page for spotting bootlegs, too.

Newer bootlegs have matte faceplates. Honestly the easiest way to tell bootlegs apart is look at the placements of the eyes on the faceplates. If your gut says it looks off then it's probably a bootleg. Although bootleg quality is getting better so it may be hard to differentiate the newer ones. Best way to avoid bootleg is to buy from places like amiami.

But anyways when I was 25 and living at home I still started my collection (made sure I got a job first and was making money...otherwise I'd be a fuck up buying plastic...)
My parents enjoyed my hobby, would ask me a bit about my figures. My dad in particular, who used to like the original Nintendo zelda and mario games, would ask me all about my Link nendoroid and what my other Nendoroids were from.
Now I've moved out and whenever my parents come visit and see my collection has grown they just make a quick comment saying it looks nice, my dad may ask where the new characters are from.
