Do you own any bootlegs, /toy/?

Did you know you were getting a bootleg or did you find out it was fake later on? Are there any besides the Datong Figuarts that are actually good quality/worth getting?

Also post pictures of whatever bootlegs you have, no matter how good or bad they are.
>>
>>5329179
I walked into Jungle over the summer, which is suppose to be this legendary awesome and huge anime store in LA and I had never seen so many bootlegs in one place before.
>>
I got a bootleg Miku from a convention selling her for full price. Safe to say, when I got home and found out it was a bootleg I was fucking pissed.

The joints are loose as fuck and the knees were installed backwards. Oddly enough, the paint was actually fairly decent for the most part.

(No pics because I don't have a decent camera)
>>
>>5329372
Some idiot tried to sell me a Datong Vegeta for 80 dollars, luckily for me I was not a new colector and noped out of there
>>
>>5329179
I got a bootleg Vegeta color variant for like 30 bucks. He came with all the accesories the original Vegeta comes with; scouter, stand, all his hands, and faces; and he doesnt look too bad. But his leg falls off pretty easily at the knee joint, his shoulders are pretty weak, and his paint job sub par.
I was a newfag then.
>>
>>5329179

I have some Datong Vegetas before the reissue was announced.

I'm afraid to touch them they reek of vinyl still even though they were opened 8 months ago.
>>
>>5329389
For 30 dollars it wasn't that bad
>>
>>5329389

Don't have that particular figure, but from what I've heard, even the legit Vegeta has problems with the legs falling off. Or at the very least, being pretty loose.

bought bootleg revoltech tmnt figures on ebay about 6 months ago

I suspected they were bootlegs due to price and shipping from china, but didn't know anything about revoltechs (or "collector grade" action figures in general, since Ive only collected TMNT and its kind of new territory for the franchise) so wasnt sure.

when they got here it was pretty obvious:

-the matte clear coat they received was cheap as hell and flaking off
-all their shades of green are off on the plastic (which might be due to the shitty clear coat)
-all joints were wrong color for everyone but mikey (everyone used mikeys joints, and bandana joints used green as well vs colors)
-their stands literally fell apart and had to be reglued together upon opening.
-raphs sais were a rubber where every picture and video i could find appears to have them made of solid sturdy plastic
-assembly before paint dried caused eye movement gimic to be stuck and mikeys bandana joint "glued" into socket - broke
-90% of the joint holes are not done properly causing joints to seat weirdly or stick out - some were fixable with my drimmel but others are too far misaligned and too close to drilling strait through
-streaks on leos swords due to poor paint job (silver paint missed causing white spots to be left behind)
-shipped all 4 wedged into the tightest box they could be forced into, absolutely no padding, box was heavily crushed and leos neck joint was broke due to it

After sending pictures and complaining I got a full refund and kept the figures, so i'm satisfied with them, but if I had to (ultimately) pay money for these things I would have been pissed as all fuck. these things were absolute garbage and I would suggest never going with bootleg TMNT (or revos in general i guess)

I think they were $100, which was around half the price of legit ones, but the level of issue these things had(especially considering 2 broke in unrepairable ways due to defects/poor quality shipping) makes them not worth it.
>>
>>5329535
ohh, and not one of them can hold a pose for shit, every single joint was loose as all fuck.
>>
>>5329179
I got a bootleg Revoltech Enki on eBay for $25 shipped from China. Aside from a nauseous paint smell that dissipated within the week he arrived, everything was good, but the racheting in some of the fake Revoltech joints grinded itself away and now the the wrists, chest ridge, and ankles move smoothly.

It's a damn shame, really wanted those katanas.

Has anyone ever purchased a bootleg PAK? I see them on eBay from china and was thinking about getting the Star Wars ones and the rest of the MGSV ones I'm missing. I understand the quality of PAK by itself from posts but never heard of any front line stories about KO ones.

Picked up a KO MP Exhaust for 30 bucks since the quality of KO Masterpieces you usually just as good as the real deal minus the occasional joint/peg tolerance issues and some slightly sloppier paint apps. Also fuck importing that thing since you can't buy it from US retailers.

I've bought were a Datong SS Vegeta because I was not paying that rape prices.
It looks pretty damn good and feels good. One face is derpy but it poses well and I probably wont use that face.

Datong SS3 Goku for the same reason but it's pretty terrible. It's floppy and always falls over. It only looks good in a floating pose on the stand and it still manages to fall over sometimes.

Lastly,I got a sailor moon bootleg as a gift. I couldn't throw it away as I just felt bad. But it literally fell apart in my hands when I opened it.

>>5329678

I'm hoping the Datong frieza will be decent, too bad they didn't fix the shoulder joint coloring issue from the original.
>>
>>5329179
I think I own some factory seconds, not actually bootlegs (Joes from the past decade)

I'm pretty sure that's what they are if they were from ebay and seem to be made of equal plastic and were from Hong Kong
>>
I legitimately don't get why people willingly buy bootlegs.

Alright, like I understand that it might be like, your only option, or pay $100, $200, or whatever for the original, so you buy the bootleg for $30 or $40.

But it seems like about 80% of the time the bootleg is trash, so you still just wasted that $30-$40 anyway. The chances of getting a good, solid bootleg are so fucking tiny, that it still seems like a waste to me.

I'd rather have nothing at all, than to have a smelly, cheap looking, broken mess on my shelf that is too fragile to even touch as a placeholder.
>>
>>5330943
>But it seems like about 80% of the time the bootleg is trash

That's why you do your research and get the other 20% that are not trash.

I don't see what is so hard to get.
>>
>>5329753
Who cares about any of that shit, what I wanna know where I can get that SDF-1
>>
>>5330978
>I don't see what is so hard to get.

Paying money for pieces of shit.

Even the "good" bootlegs usually have poor paint, questionable joints, cheap as hell plastic.
>>
>>5331002

You're not trying to understand or have a discussion, you're just baiting out responses so you can rant about bootlegs to people who don't care.

There isn't magic behind it, they're just cheap alternatives that people can afford, and to be honest, the vegeta datongs have improved a ton
>>
>>5330646
Nah its's definitely a datong. Visually it looks really good. I think it even looks better than the official one. It's just super loose.

>>5330943
Because there are some nice bootlegs? I have an SS vegeta. The joints are tight and it looks good. There's minor paint errors but nothing terrible. It only has very slight differences than the real one. And I could do without some minor details if it's $100 less.

It's a little hard to tell from first glance because of the hat but the eyes are on crooked. Looks like the hat could be off-center as well and the backpack doesn't look like it fits right. Looks like some flashing around the badge. There's also some iffy paint apps I can see.
All of this would be fine if you don't have any real nendos, but once you've gotten a couple and see the quality standard they go by, it becomes easier to see the flaws in bootlegs.
>>
I got a bootleg figma mikasa from AoT off alieexpress last year for like $19 Australian including shipping. I was and am really happy with it, all its joints are nice and strong, easy to pose, comes with all the right accessories and they all look and work great. if there were other figmas I wanted I would definitely consider getting a bootleg again based off my experience. and on that note has anyone seen any bootleg figma ryuko or satsuki (kill la kill) because fuck paying the price people are trying to get for those. would post photos but cant find camera

>>
>>5335023

Nendos, on average are like 3000Y~4000Y. With the exchange rate, that usually puts them like, $25~$35, so long as you're actually importing them, and not buying them off of American sites that treat Japanese goods like some sort of rare. exotic items that are impossible to get a hold of, or you're paying latecomer's fee, or something.
>>
>>5335018

Satsuki is still in stock at amiami.com. It is probably one of the top 3 or so import sites for most people here, so it is a trusted, well-used site.

Satsuki is still up there, brand new, for 5500 Yen. I don't know what that converts to in AUD, but you can probably find a converter calculator somewhere.

Got a bootleg from the Amazon warehouse which funnily had "Fake" written all over the box.

Here's a comparison I did.

I bought a KO MP Sideswipe from ebay. After like 3 weeks it hadn't come in the mail, so I filed a claim and got my money back. A whole month after that, I got a box in the mail and it was Sideswipe.

It seems pretty damn good quality
>>
>>5336334
I think some sellers send their stock to Amazon, so while you're technically having your order fulfilled by Amazon, it is still actually stock from a 3rd party. So it can still be a bootleg even if everything appears legit.

Maybe they pulled it out of the mold while it was still soft. That would explain the drooping arm on the bootleg.
>>
>>5337176
but what i was saying is its not shitty and that i am very happy with it, hence why i was doubting that there could be that much difference to a real one as i dont know how it could be much better than it already is.

The figure appears to be made of (very thick, rubbery) clear plastic head to toe. The eyeballs are removable (and are sculpted to have eyelids which did not get any paint). since they just plug in (and the eyes are painted exactly straight) you can sorta adjust his expression.

the faceplate just plugs into the head although it is VERY snug. I've been using a letter opener to get it off so far.

I have 3 figma bootlegs, they are nice. I even bought an original figma of one the bootlegs I own to compare, in the end i concluded that the quality is great for the price, the most noticeable difference between a bootleg and an original figma is the joints, bootlegs joints are very brittle and loose, the fall off easily. Nevertheless they can be fixed with bit of nail polish or buying a pack of spare figma joints in ebay.

The other thing I noticed is that some (some not all of them) figmas have a heavy paint smell, at first I thought that it was just the bootlegs with the paint smell but nope, originals have them too.

Other difference, and arguably the most noticeable, is the matte finish in the skin parts of the figures, legs, arms face. The bootlegs skin parts are a bit glossy, whereas the originals have a soft matte finish.

The bootleg sculpts are very good, awesome considering the price tag, but the paint can be sloppy sometimes, reason which I advise not to consider buying figma bootlegs with realistic faces. Thor for example, he looks like shit.

I've accidentally bought bootleg figmas from ebay when I was too stupid to know better. They were remarkably good. I bought a couple more from the same seller before their store closed and they were similar quality. The real figmas I have have better paint and the joints are sturdier, but it's honestly only noticeable if you have the real deal to compare them to.
I absolutely agree that it's better to shell out for the real thing than get a hot mess, but sometimes you luck out. Besides, the shitty fakes are useful as bait and for sanding/sculpting/painting practice. It's not all wasted.
