>everything but the eyes/eyelashes completely liquefied

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but are you referring to the photoshop tool? I'm not super familiar with PS - I use it for like 4 simple things at work.
>>
>>5316228
I thiiink anon means the way it's sculpted?
As in, so shapeless, without proper details but just some round mess that seems to run from the face.

Have to say though, I think this doll is not that bed.
I'm sure the sculpt looks boring blank and is not a master piece but it's okay.
>>
Hmm, I can't tell if Light Limner's Christmas LE is gorgeous or manry.

...maybe both.

>>5316228
You don't know? Shh, nobody tell the anon who was super sperg about the names of Paint Tool Sai buttons. (I also think it's what >>5316237 said, actually.)
>>
To other WA anons, I am in Spokane. There is a FB group called Inland Northwest Resin. They only have a couple of meets a year though and I don't think that they're planning another one until spring time.

That being said there's a holiday party going on in Portland that has a DoA thread, I'm planning on going but idk. I'm new to this state but I have a friend who wants literally any excuse to go to Portland/Seattle.
>>
Whelp, Mandarake cancelled my last order of doll clothes because "the addressed used has a fraudulent card activity." I always have everything shipped to my office, so I guess someone else in the building must have pissed them off? Well that sucks. I'll wait a few months before ordering from them again and have it sent to my place and hopefully they won't remember my name coming from "a fraudulent address."

I decided to check out 9style's DD clothes. My first order from them so I hope the clothes look nice.

> recast reseller complaining that FB removed photos because the company filed a copyright claim

I'm not sure what's better, that they are complaining or that people are willing to go trought a reseller to get a recast, of all things.
>>
>>5316442
Am I really awful for wanting shit-tier BJD recasts in the vein of those really awful Mexican bootleg DBZ figures? Just to laugh at.

>>5316440
Yeah, that sucks. if you have family/a friend that is home all day, you may see if you can have it sent there.

>The problem is that the 1/12 doll scene apparently generally glues their dolls into their clothes while we would like to get them on an off again.

What, really? Why would they do that and ruin both their doll and their clothes?

I'm pretty sure anon meant that the company was reducing their already low prices, as if they were "liquidating" their assets.
>>
>>5316817
I think so too, "liquify" means to turn assets into money.
>>
>>5316817

Oh, der. That makes sense thanks.

If you're going to go full retard, at least get it right that anon was being called out for trying to sound smart while not knowing jack shit about the medium, not that they didn't know the name.

That is tumblr worthy reading comprehension fail right there.

I was the OP of the question. I wasn't sure if anon was saying that the new company was cutting prices, or photoshopping their pictures (which doll companies are known to do).

Although with that company it's probably both. If $180 is the price of a doll w/ faceup that's a good fucking deal. If that's the price of a blank doll then K-E-K

Hey so I have a DOD U with a company face up (gothic colors with default style) and eyes that is about 7 years old. He has yellowed a bit but it's very graceful and he still looks pretty good. He has a scuff under his chin and also a few on his feet, but nothing that can't be removed with Magic Eraser. I also have a number of Dollmore clothes and some shoes and a wig as well as his original box, documents, and pillows.

Anyways, is $300 for everything included a reasonable price? I originally purchased him for $400 and figured that although he is older and not popular, the amount of clothes I would include would be suitable to the price.

What are these extra mitten-looking things with the new Miku outfit? I'm interested in getting this for my girl who's on an S-bust DD2, but can't tell what the heck those are -- the promo pics only show her wearing one set of gloves.

Descrip isn't much help either.
>gloves (normal hand), Globe (possession hand)

>>5316877
I followed the whole discussion pretty well, actually, and am describing it in a moderately inaccurate way in order to be funnier while ribbing you, sperganon. Dropping this now bc the last thing we need is another fucking derail.

>>5317008
That sounds fair, yeah. It might take a couple months to sell but DOD's old stuff still has some serious fans.
>>
>>5317042
Those are gloves for grabbing hands, so Miku can hold her microphone and leek accessories while wearing the gloves.
>>
>>5317045
I see, how thoughtful of Volks. Thank you for your help, anon.
>>
I have a respirator already for other art stuff, but are goggles necessary for safe use of MSC/other sealants that work on dolls? What about gloves? And are there particular kinds of acrylic paints and thinners recommended by the community? I have good brushes already from painting miniatures.
>>
>>5317242
Goggles aren't necessary since it's unlikely to get it into your eyes unless you're spraying outside in the wind (which just seems like a bad idea anyway, since any little particles in the wind could get stuck to your doll and the sealant will be difficult to get on evenly), although I too was really paranoid about getting it in my eyes.

Gloves are also not necessary (any sealant left on your hands will cease to be toxic once it dries, it's only really dangerous while there's a chance of inhaling it) although it might be worthwhile to wear them if you're worried about getting a fingerprint on a finished faceup or smudging it with your oils -- unlikely, but it might make you feel better.

The most recommended thinner I hear about is Liquitex Flowaid. There are some tuts on YT for thinning paint for the fine detail faceups but if you do miniatures you probably don't need them.

What cream did you use? I can't even tell there was a stain at one point. I have small stains on the torso of one of my Obitsu bodies. It's only 1/6 so I figured I should stick to a small pimple cream rather than a big ol' tub of Removezit.

I have an extra tube of Accuve at home. Would that work or is prescription strength too strong?

Saturday group, its the only meet up event I've seen posted so far, so I figure if I go, if nothing else I can get the info for the other meet ups.

Only thing is I've only got one shitty blank naked cheap doll, and while I can probably whip together a fur wig and some boxers by the party, he's a modding project so there's not a lot of finish work I want to do to him until after his mods are done. Otoh, the organizer says non-bjd toys are welcome (although I don't know what if anything of those I would bring), but I might bring one or two of my wip, made from scratch dolls.

>>5317939
I like to think that if not normal, I'm a fairly chill person to know.
>>
>>5318608
from what I've experienced, theyre alright with arty project dolls. though i might not be able to make the Saturday group cus of work. i think most of the groups here use facebook more than doa, though if its a doa meet you're less likely to see recasts.

Mandarake-issue anon here.

I just couldn't give up on that 123 yen-to-dollar rate and that perfect outfit, so I gave it one more go with work email and home address and wa la I got my invoice in 24 hours.

So now I guess both of my Dollfie Dreams are getting presents. I'm actually pretty pumped. If Manda hadn't given me the runnaround once, I wouldn't have bought the stuff from nine9style.

Does anyone know if nine9style's gray stockings stain? I know their red tags stain (it looks like they removed the red tags from the line of DD clothes) and their black leggins stain, but I've seen mixed reports from other brightly colored clothing of theirs.

If you're in love with the doll, I have some fantastic news for you. You can make that doll with a budget under $50. The head is from a Little Dal. Those can be found anywhere, including eBay and Amazon, for under $20. The body is an 11cm Obitsu body, which is 1700 yen. That's like $15 I think? Anyway, all you need to get the head onto the body is one of those tiny 00 Phillips screwdrivers (I used the one I got with my external hard drive), some putty, and about 30 minutes. Bam. Cute, pocket sized doll.

i saw something on tumblr about Elf on the Shelf clothes possibly fitting minifees, has anyone tried? there's a pretty cool looking puffy jacket that might be worth buying

Just two Assault Lily girls if they count. Thinking of easing my way in with a Pure Neemo Strike Witch, but I'll probably end up diving in when I fall in love with a real doll.
>>
>>5322260
Yeah theres a fuckload of them here (entitled Portland twats) but there's a general policy of not bringing the recasts to meets they have open to DoA. Theres also scattered meets through the year that don't get posted there which are only listed on the FB pages.
>>
>>5322913
Unless you saw pics I'd be highly suspect of that, since Elf on the Shelf are so skinny and tube shaped.
>>
>>5322960
Not that anon but I've seen the post they're talking about and the particular brand of elf-puffy-coat shown looked completely fine on the doll.
>>
>>5322913
>>5322960
even if elf on the shelf clothes did fit, they are way too cheap and "play" quality. thick chunky stiff fabric, intended to survive rough handling from children. they wouldn't look like real clothes on a bjd, as the fabric isn't to scale (if that makes sense.)

i don't know why people are so insistent on buying cheap alternatives to BJD clothes, they only end up making their dolls look tacky and shitty. there ARE cheap places to get doll clothes that won't make your doll an embarrassment to be seen.

check out alice's collections (acbjd.com) their mix and match outfit pieces are quite cheap (tank tops / t shirts for $7-$10 pants / skirts $7-$20) and they offer regular airmail. they don't force you to pay for EMS shipping so you save a lot that way too.

Hey, relax. I agree with you that sometimes people's urge to cut corners is ridiculous and leads to buying truly tacky shit, but once in a while something actually will show up in RL stores, as toys or decorations, which genuinely looks alright. And when that happens why not take advantage of it?

This is the jacket posted on tumblr btw (the bottom one). It looks...okay. Not tacky, but not to my personal taste, and no idea if it fits MNFs.

(Also I find most of the clothing stocked by AC, MintOnCard, and other places stuffed with cheap clothing by Chinese companies to look a little bit frumpy.)
>>
>>5322989
yea i'm not saying AC has GOOD clothes, i'm just saying they're better than wasting $10 on an oddly fitting elf on the shelf jacket with no buttons or details and a lame elf sticker on the front.
>>
>>5322996
>$10
wat
lol I take it back, this isn't really worth buying then. Figured it was three or four bucks.
>>
>>5323003
elf on the shelf shit is insanely over priced, its become this crazy monster of a thing. i used to work retail and i remember when it was just the elves in the box with the book, now they have a shitton of accessories like clothes and now animal buddies and they even made a "birthday" version, which is a book with a special birthday cupcake outfit. it used to be a cute way to get kids to behave during the holidays, now its another example gross consumerism madness.

Sweet mother of sd, this has to be a product of lighting. How can a fucking doll be this yellow!? Who would pay $500 for this atomic slab of butter?
>>
>>5323029
Fullsets are an awesome way to buy clothes, and considering how many sets have 4-6 different pieces which look quite nice mixed with other sets, a wardrobe of $300 containing several complete sets by a nice company will probably have as many outfits that can be made out of it as $300 of cheap separates by K2 or whoever will (and they will look nicer.)

Hey guys, my Iplehouse doll is about a year and a half old and I've noticed some weird grimy marks on her face. Looks like some freckles on her nose and some grime in other places. A lot more noticeable in person than in this picture. No idea how she got dirty.

Is this something I can just run a magic eraser over or is it a resin thing?

It's probably some dust or lint that got stuck to her. Have you tried the magic eraser yet? Just go ahead and wet the eraser and gently try it, even if it doesn't work it won't mess up the faceup or anything.

Not that I like elf on the shelf much though, or other clothes not made for dolls.

what do you guys do about a disinterest in the hobby? I still love my dolls, and just last year I bought my holy grail, but I haven't touched them in forever, and both my holy grail and the girl I bought before that are naked. I don't want to sell them, but I never touch them or do anything with them. I know the longer i don't touch them, they're aging, so I feel bad, but I can't motivate myself to do anything with them.

Put them away in boxes at least to preserve them from the sun. Put them away for a while somewhere dry and safe. Wait. Take them out after a while when you have a bad day. See how you feel then.

This is the reason I love those huge bundle outfits like older Dollheart stuff or those complicated Y!J sets that pop up sometimes. One outfit would have like a jacket, layered tops, skirt, one or two petticoats, etc and they'd be very easy to mix and match because of the color choices. I mean I love me some Volks clothes, but having a few sets of each clothing item that coordinates and layers with other items well is invaluable.

>i don't know why people are so insistent on buying cheap alternatives to BJD clothes

I never got that either.
I don't expect people to always commission high quality, several hundred dollars costing outfits with some dollflower eyes, angora wig and expensive face-up on top but come on.
If I spend hundreds of dollars on the base doll why would I cheap out in the end and rip some old porcelain doll apart for clothes/eyes/wig and slap on some sharpie face.
I don't know, I would feel like I wasted my money?

That's like buying a crazily expensive steak and then deep fry it and drown it in ketchup.
Like, have fun, but I still don't get it.

(Doesn't mean that people can't look out for nice props or things you can use for your dolls that weren't intended for such usage, but we all know these people who would rather die than pay more than 5 bucks for a wig for their 600$ doll)

Dollmore has some stuff I think? Volks used to sell very nice chairs for $20-35 but they only have the expensive couches left now. Silicon joint rings work best in round joints in bjd. I use them in the neck, shoulder and hips in my dolls. Sometimes in wrists and ankles if they fit well enough. They are useless in most knees and elbows and you have to restring the whole doll to use them. Hot glue suedeing is easier and more effective.

You'll need to find a faceup artist who is willing to do a buff/sanding but honestly I would recommend that you:

1. Get a slot with an artist you like
2. While waiting to send it (or waiting for a slot to open) remove the faceup and gently buff the head
3. Mail the head away for faceup

There are plenty of guides and tutorials for buffing out the yellow layer of an older doll.

Delayed response but I only own a bunch of Picco Neemos right now. I can't really afford to get into anything more expensive. Although I just spent over 100 dollars on a commission for a 1/12th doll head, it was for a gift though so it's easier to justify. (I was talking to someone on here about it actually.)

I have some ThreeA guys but I'm not if that counts.

Miniature furniture always interested me ever since I was a kid. My friend and I used my Ghostbusters HQ as an apartment for my xmen and Spiderman. I'm eventually going to build doll houses and stuff too.

Yo, somebody in another thread said they make BJDs you can fuck? I don't know how they could do that, those things are like 16 inches tall and they're all skinny androgynous teen bodies, where would you fit the fleshlight or non-branded equivalent lol? unless you got like a really small dick lol. >>

Are you too stupid to use Google or read the faq? And why did you post a pastel goth girl? Anyway discussion of dollfucking is usually reserved to /jp/ since the /toy/ thread is mostly girls, but the short answer is that some 1/3 scale dolls (24 inches) can have their torso swapped with a fleshlight type thing manufactured by a third party company, if you are willing to venture into seedy sites and order such a thing.

Sorry, I'm pretty sure I'm a little developmentally disabled. My mom wouldn't let me get tested cause she was worried they might sterilize me. I told her they don't do that anymore. But two of her aunts got sterilized by the government so she's super worried about it.
Did you know a bunch of states were still doing forced sterilizations into the 1950s? It's fucked up. Well, I know it's fucked up, but if they kept doing it my mom deffo would've got sterilized, so I wouldn't be here, and I'm pretty sure I don't deserve to live, so ymmv.

>>
What's the general difference between you guys here in /toy/ and the guys in /jp/? Is there some east coast west coast type shit going on between you?
>>
>>5327381
Nah, it's nothing so arbitrary. Keep in mind that /jp/ is the Japanese culture board, so the posters there mostly discuss dolls with an anime aesthetic (and almost always female dolls of teenagers/adults), talk about customing their dolls to look like anime characters, sometimes discuss a NEET lifestyle, et cetera. Also the dolls are usually made by Japanese companies. Meanwhile the /toy/ general is used more by people who collect resin BJDs, which have a lot of different appearances but are usually more realistic rather than anime, and can be made not only by Japanese companies but Korean, Chinese, French, etc. They also are not 'only sexy girls' as the anime dolls discussed on /jp/ tend to be but also men, cute animals or cute children, fantasy creatures, book or television characters, et cetera.

Also, mostly as a consequence of the type of doll discused, /jp/ thread is mostly men and /toy/ thread is mostly women (the breakdown is similar at irl events for the different types of dolls.)

Some people do like both types of dolls so there's a lot of crossboarding. The mockery of one another is not really serious. Although, /jp/ is honestly more likely to be able to tell people where to buy doll-related sex toys, that part we're serious about.
>>
Also while we're talking about filthy crossboarders I just saw someone in the /jp/ thread trying to get rid of some faceup supplies in the bay area (California) so, idk, if you're from there and have a burner email and are willing to meet a neckbeard in a public place to get some free supplies you should go check it out.

>it's a lot harder to just discover new dolls
This is one of the few things I actually like Tumblr for. Almost all of the blogs I follow on there are doll photo blogs. I know they post good shit, so I rarely see any ugly dolls. And since they're mostly side blogs instead of personal ones I never see the drama associated with the community there. I've got a list now of companies, faceup artists, and clothing shops that I've found from seeing them on one of those blogs.
>>
>>5328211
Its been open sporadically in the last few days. Its normally invite only otherwise. I think they're trying to stem the flood of requests they get to join, since they actually do have to check them for banned members and spambots. Spot on, Bevan. She has a faceup by Rugged Realism, aka the chick that does super realistic dongs.
>>
>>5329396
Weird, it doesn't look like her face-ups (more like some imitation of the Iplehouse default)
>>
>>5329404
Yeah, she took me off her portfolio and I assume it's because I wanted something close to the Iplehouse default and not what she usually does. She still did a bang up job and this doll is my favorite because of her work. She's really lovely to work with.
>>
>>5329415
I just don't get why you would even commission her then.
There are a lot of artists that already have this style (or are good at imitating it), why go through the trouble to commission someone that usually aims for textured realism?
She can't give her best that way and it's a waste of money too.
>>
>>5329419
Because I was an idiotic newb. I'd never commissioned anyone before and she was the first person I found who was taking commissions and also lived in Australia. I told her exactly what I wanted and she told me what to expect from her and we agreed that we were both comfortable with it. The transaction went well. I love the work she did and she got paid what she asked. I feel that my Iplehouse dolls that have a company faceup are much less realistic and organic compared to this doll.

To be fair though, I see where you're coming from and if I ever did commission her again I would certainly do it her way.
>>
>>5329434
> I feel that my Iplehouse dolls that have a company faceup are much less realistic and organic compared to this doll.

I personally think that both the Iple defaults and this face-up are a bit of a waste on Iplehouse molds, simply because they are so realistic you can do all kinds of crazy stuff with the right shading and texturing on them, something less detailed molds barely offer.
I still think it's a shame that Iple dolls have so simple default face-ups because they never reach their full potential that way, instead they look totally bland and life-less.
Probably the reason why many complain about Iplehouse dolls look like "bland Barbies".

Anyway, I get what you mean.
I just know her personally and I know she's super sweet, but I can also imagine that doing this wasn't easy for her and I bet her own style would have looked even better on this doll.
>>
>>5329449
Never heard of the "bland barbies" but I see it. Even this faceup is so much nicer, even if it doesn't reach anywhere near the potential of the sculpt or the artist. I know better now for sure, and if I ever do commission her again it will be different.
>>
>>5329481
For a while it was a super whiney topic on the confession Tumblr. You had people going on about how bland they are and people going back at them for having no clue.
Made me cringe because both have their points.
When you look at the shop photos they do look often pretty boring.

It's a custom DDH-01, modded to have the nose and mouth sanded down. Body is MDD.

I'm willing to bet you he bought it on Y!JA.

you know it does look a lot like mold spots that pop up on some vintage vinyl toys. I had the same thing that happened to a very old doll which I've since sold and I never could remove it or figure out what had happened. Didn't happen to all my dolls, didn't happen to the oldest doll, they were all the same company, and weren't stored differently...
>>
>>5329836
I feel like this would be unlikely to happen to resin, though, even if it can affect vinyl. Although I've heard of doll items and their packaging getting musty or moldy in storage, I haven't heard of mold growing on resin dolls; there's just nothing on the sealant or resin for the colony to break down and survive off of (unlike vinyl, which mold seems to be able to eat.)

Forreal. The onsite photos of almost every Iple doll are incredibly boring; until I started seeing good ones painted by talented artists, I thought they were as overrated and samey and dull-looking as MNFs.

Maybe you could mod a regular sd16-ish foot for use just with shoes.
>>
Idiot question, do you need a respirator if you're sanding SUBMERGED resin (with wet/dry sandpaper)? I'm getting the impression no, since there's no airborne dust that way, but it would be nice to hear a confirmation.
>>
>>5331302
Eh fuck I'll just pull it out and wear it anyway, I hate the way it feels which is why I was wondering if it was skippable but better safe than sorry. Also this way I can pull the part from the water occasionally to inspect progress.

Dollmore Model/Glamor Model have huge feet so they make huge shoes for both male and female

Is anyone else having trouble with DoA's thread watcher? It seems like every other week since the site update I stop getting notifications and I have to keep unwatching-watching the threads to get them to start again.

If it is better, for sanding (NOT SPRAYING) you can get the cloth N95 rated disposable masks. Because there's no chemical fumes to filter (resin in its bonded state is inert) you just need particulate filtration. They are more comfortable, too.
>>
>>5331453
These are fine for airbrushing non toxic acrylic aren't they? I was airbrushing a lot of red paint the other day and wearing one of these. The front of it turned pink from all the particulates but the inside of it was still white. I should be okay, right? I knowthese don't filter out gasses and mold but some overspray is fine isn't it?
>>
>>5331542
BTW it was definitely not a cadmium red or any of that shit. Specifically a fabric paint made for airbrushing
>>
>>5329252
No problem, I can wait. I don't even have any real dolls yet, so it would mostly be browsing for things I need, and I can do that well enough here.

Though I wouldn't be against someone else tossing an invite my way...

I really want a Trinity but I only want one because they're so large. This is the only one I like enough to own but of course she was limited.

Would be so cool to have a perpetual five year old wearing cute clothes that never get dirty or too small, sitting quietly on a chair in the den.

I want real kids in a few years but I've always liked the idea of a Trinity. My kids will probably be known as "those kids who live in the house with all the creepy dolls" embrace the creepy dolls children, if you don't behave I'll turn you into a doll too.
>>
>>5332029
I wish they'd release a boy trinity doll already. I don't like resin girls but I'd like to have a 1/2 scale resin boy dressed in some 19th century clothes. I've even thought about what child-size furniture I could get at IKEA that would be fun for a trinity-size doll.
