***READ THE GUIDE****

For those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Gunpla/Plamo Secret Santa!

Sign ups run until December 4th. I'll try to have everyone paired up by December 6th.

Like last year, I'm going to have everyone fill out a Google form so I can collect the information easily.

Also, if you have some kits in your backlog that you are willing to part with feel free to email me a list and estimated values.

***Disclaimer***
If you want to enter with stuff in your backlog, that's fine, but please be aware I may not be able to pair you with someone who wants something you have to give away. If you cannot afford to purchase a new kit in case of that, please just hold off this year.

No, its called being a snapfag.
There isn't much you can do, just avoid putting stress on the nub where you snip them off the runner.

I used to sand down the nub, slice thinly and carefully using a very sharp hobby knife, and sanding it with 1500 after. Came out alright.

Some questions guys:

1. How do you use aftermarket (aluminum) thrusters? Do they just snap in like a normal thruster? What sort of connections do they use?

2. Do you think there are any plans to bring out a chromed version of Hyaku Shiki 2.0? I can't really get down with that flat metallic look.
>>
>>5314585
1. Glue

2. Probably not.

Just finished my MG God, fully airbrushed, lined with some washing to give it a gritty rough look to reflect the nature of the suit/anime
The rings are a bit rough, planning to redo them and there's some rubbing on the joints that I messed up, I've heard some olive oil and gently rubbing will help get rid of them, anybody confirm? But overall pretty hype about how it
turned out.
First time hand painting so if the hands seem rough pls no bully
>>
>>5315023
Also please excuse cell phone pics, didn't have time to set up a booth and my good camera.
>>
>>5315023
It looks pretty good as a whole, but the hand painting sort of puzzles me. I mean, it's a personal choice, and it's your choice to make, but it just seems like a waste of the clear plastic. If anything, I would have airbrushed on some solid red around the edges and left the "core" of the hands clear orange, I think that would have been a cool effect. I'm just not a big fan of that painted gradient look for things that could have been clear instead.
>>
>>5315023
hands look fine dude. I think a little more lining could make it really pop more specifically the head and the foot guard but it looks really solid!

>>5315065
Ofcourse it is, masking is my bff. Vulcans are just very small, even for masking. Still easy to mess them up. Also a detail I'm not hurting too much about missing. It's an easy thing to go back to and add
>>
>>5315023
I feel like there could be more black on the legs, like lining wise, and a thicker black line on the shoulder pieces.
>>
>>5315071
Yeah, I'm on the fence about it. I like the lighter lining but I know traditionally it has thicker lines.
Again it's something that's easy to add later if I change my mind

But off the top of my head and shelf, Crossbone Gundam for Crossbone, Fullarmor Gundam Thunderbolt for Thunderbolt, GM Striker for Feddie Hooligans (you'd have to paint it though), Ground Gundam for Lost War Chronicles, Gundam Delta Kai for that Across the Sky nobody will ever read, ummm, I guess you could pretend Johnny Ridden's Zaku's colors at least represent MSV-R, oh I think Command Gundam, Zero Gundam, Musha Godmaru, Musha Victory Gundam and Knight Unicorn Gundam are all manga leads too

There are a ton more but I can't think of them or don't have any options for kits from them

The other thread is being spam shitposted so I'll bring it here.

You need a few panels of another color or lighter blue-grey to break up all that darker blue-grey.
The thighs could be a different color, possibly the same grey as the arms
Some red detailing would work pretty well, possibly with shark "cone art" on the head or chest by the mega particle guns.

I think the details is going to be the thing to work on to make that kind of color scheme work well. Squad iconography etc, etc.

Didn't notice the repost until now. Thank you for the advice. So, which panels would you say would benefit from a different color? I tried showing where I would place a shark emblem if I were just doing a small waterslide.

If it's war paint it would be hard to show on the lineart, but I understand that those tend to be spread out over a plane nose, so I would do the same across the chest with a shark mouth or whatever. This isn't the final thing, I don't know the color break up you were talking about, feel free to edit it and repost or just tell me since I have the Photoshop file still saved.

Seven Sword? I'm picking up the HG on Saturday from my local store, just made sure they have the stock. Hopefully doesnt take too much fiddling for it to work with the RG
>>
Why are there so many leftover pieces after building Prototype Gouf? Feels like I did something wrong. I know it's common to have leftover pieces after a build, but isn't this usually due to sprue reuse or retooling? And unless I'm mistaken, isn't ProtoGouf a new mold?

It uses some joints and such from the Origin Zakus.

Getting another PG soon, which one would I have a funner time building, the 00 Raiser or the Unicorn? I feel like if I got the Unicorn I'd get the LED kit as well, but I hear that the PG 00 has a massive number of pieces.

You can ship them back at a post office. It'll be fine. The post office workers are helpful and will be able to help you fill out the forms.
It will also be quite a lot safer than putting the boxes in your hand luggage.
>>
>>5316263
Cheers anon, it's a mix of about 40% flat black, 40% midnight blue and 20% extra dark sea grey. All paints except a few of the metallics including the chrome (alclad obviously) were Mr.Color Lacquers
>>
>>5316265
Thats a good idea anon, I don't know why I like to be brash sometimes.

Shipping won't cost much I assume?
>>
>>5316269
It'll cost less than your gunpla. That can be assured. If you've ordered things from japan before, it'll be a similar pricing structure.
The main problem of shipping gunpla is box size. A box that's big enough to fit lots of gunpla and other stuff is hard to get. If you can sort it out all by yourself and find a box, then the process is smoother and you don't have to pay the overpriced post office box fees.

Have fun on your research trip, though. I'll be spending a week living it up in all the places I didn't get to visit on my research trip last year.

This is why I'll happily always remain a mediocre builder. I know exactly how much frustration is involved in getting a build to that stage of perfection, and it's just not fun to me anymore at that point. If I can get a kit de-nubbed, smoothed, painted, panel lined, decaled, and topcoated, I consider that a victory already. Any little fuckups along the way, TOO BAD, I'm moving on. Life is too short for me to obsess like that.

>>5316304
DEFINITELY buy some Assault Kingdoms. Then open them up, play with them, realize you need them all, and go back the next day to buy more, more. more. Imagine...a few hundred yen for a 3" tall Gundam with a stand, accessories, spare hands, and nearly the poseability of a Robot Damashii. Hell, sometimes they even exceed the poseability of RDs thanks to intelligent joint design and soft plastic for things like skirts. It's one of the best candy toy lines in years.

I'll probably remain a mediocre builder, although I still have to find a way to become an expert a denubbing, as sometimes I just dot the nub in the same colour as the rest of the plastic, it actually works pretty well as camoflagued, you couldn't see the nubs unless you inspected it really closely. Although I have a habit of gouging some nubs sometimes, I really need to be more careful.

One day though I would like to create just one original kitbash to call my own.

And hell, I pretty much got into Gunpla because Robot Damashii are 2expensive, assault kingdoms look like the kind of toy you carry around and fiddle with when bored.

How often should compressors and/or air tanks be replaced? I have one of those master compressor w/ tank and regulator sets and I'm worried that the inside of the air tank may be gathering moisture. If it rusts enough it could burst or at least cause some damage.
>>
>>5316887
I have worked around air compressors for many years and have never even heard of one exploding due to rust out. I have seen poorly maintained tanks develop pinholes and leak but thats all. One thing you might want to try is tapping the tank with a hammer and see if you can "hear" any drastic change in the sound, indicating a thinner area of the tank.Theres no way of stopping the moisture in a tank but draining keeps the moisture out of your tools. You may also want to put a low amout of pressure in the tank and spray the tank with a mixture of dish soap and water and look for bubbles.Hope this helped a bit. Good luck

Two questions: Is there an option parts set with articulated hands for HGs?
And if there is, would said option parts kit work with the old G Gundam model kits?
Oh, and I guess a third question, I see a lot of well made devil Gundam kits have the extra pair of arms protruding from the back. I've looked at a few of these great builds and the arms look the same on all of them, which makes sense considering that they'd have to look the same to match the Gundam from the show, but when the arms look the same on multiple builds it makes me wonder, was there ever an upgrade pack for the devil Gundam like there was for the shuffle alliance? I doubt it but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

If you mean these images then that's not a model kit. That's the MSIA figure which comes with them.

As for articulated hands, no, bandai does not make a option pack for them. You will need to get third party ones and all the third party hands I know of are hilariously oversized for G gundam kits. Your best bet for better hands would probably be the HGBC Jigen build knuckle set which while not articulated comes with three different posed hands for each hand in three different sizes, including small ones for smaller MS.

- Yes, you can buy aftermarket articulated hands for HGs. They are not licensed products, and they can be somewhat fragile. They will most likely require some modification to work on the old G kits.

- There is no upgrade kit as far as I know. Are you sure you weren't looking at the MSIA Devil Gundam action figure? That came with the extra arms.

Alrighty, that's pretty helpful. I'm pretty sure one of the things I saw wasn't the msia, but looking at it it's entirely possible that someone just took the arms from it and applied it to an actual build. A shame about the hands, though, but since the kit I'm using would be the old devil Gundam kit they could work, considering it's size.

Why is the ass technology on FAG Materia so shit? Gourai had a nicely engineered ass, in the style of recent Figma asses, and then suddenly we get this mess. It's like ass technology took a step back 10 years. What the fuck Kotobukiya.

Damn, I may finally get a third party kit.

Cautiously excited about this. The legs look like they're a bit too far apart but I'll reserve judgment until more pics come out.

i love the look of the woundwort except for that extended crotch

and yet i feel it would look unbalanced without it

and yet

that fucking extended crotch

I seem to remember that the HG Lotos had some kinda problem--does anyone remember what it was? I kinda wanna pick up the kit cause they're cute, but need to know what the flaw was and if it's a dealbreaker.

So how does one actually get samueldecal to actually respond to emails? Does it just take a while for him to get back to you or should I just shoot him another in case mine got buried?

Just wait.
>>
>>5317437
They're just really tiny, about 8cm or so tall

Jesus christ.

Third party kits never disappoint

Woundwort a cute! CUTE!
>>
>>5317447
Nah nah, not that--I remember hearing something about breakages or something like that. Also, I already know they're small, that's not an issue for me.

Plastic on plastic joints, don't be an idiot like me and j-jam it in.
Also there was this hip joint for the legs to attach to, I was test fitting the kit and trying to transform the legs when I twisted it right off.

Someone explain to me why the HGUC Gerbera Tetra will never be reprinted.

Is it because it's piloted by a female? Is this why Nobel, GN Archer, Gadessa are never going to be reprinted either?

tfw third parties are saving us since Bandai isn't giving us what we want

Dunno. I like the suit, but was unhappy with the sculpt of the HGUC.

You can always get the 1/144 Dragon Momoko instead.
