OK /biog/, I've lurked this general since the first rumor of the revival of Bionicle. I haven't purchased a Bionicle since the green, red, and black Gladiator guys, and as a college fresan, was hesitant to spend money on toys, but I just snagged Onua, hid protector, and Skull basher for $36. I'm hype as hell right now, can't wait to build them. Did I get a good deal for these? Both Onua and basher were marked down to 13 and 10 dollars respectively. Other figures from the line didn't seem to be marked down, are the black ones unpopular or something?
>>
>>5304905
Tahu, CoF, Gali and CoW.
>>
>>5304932
>are the black ones unpopular or something?
Well they're just more likely to be killed by cops or incarcerated for misdemeanors.

Seriously though, you got as good a deal on your sets as can be expected. Bionicle G2 is selling like crazy.
>>
>>5304932
Nope, you chose right my friend. Onua and the Protector of Earth are probably two of the better sets of their brethren, and Skull Basher has more delicious purple parts and a unique function.

Plus, Onua for $13 is an incredibly good deal!

I'll get Lewa, Uxar, and Umarak first then see how I feel afterward.

I'll probably get Pohatu and Ketar after that for the brown shells if nothing else.
>>
>>5304905
Gali and her creature for sharkgirll and Umarak because of the golden mask. Maybe Onua and bash him together with '15 Onua.
>>
>>5304905
Umarak is the only certainty. I don't seem to have a lot of interest in any of the Toa, but the creatures have my attention. I'll probably grab one or two of them.
>>
Why the hell doesn't LEGO release these sets in November before Christmas? Doesn't make sense they'd release it after the fact.
>>
>>5305015
no one would buy all the straggler 2015 stuff if they did

>>

Source or I'm calling bullshit.
>>
>>5305015
I dont know, but obviosusly it makes some sense since they've been doing it this way for ages and its been highly succesful.

However, apparently theyve been having issues with stock leasing up to Chrisstmas, so you may notice some of the 2016 sets (not bionicle unfortunately) are actually already being released in the US. So maybe we will see it happen for more sets in the future.

And I thought Australia was bad.
>>
>>5305158
australia may be slow but its consistently slow on time
>>

Well, I wouldnt say on time. We barely ever get a full wave at a time. I remember having to wait half a month between the large and medium bionicle sets this year.
>>
>>5305160
TRU employee here. Our system says the new Bionicle wave is arriving March in Australia...
>>
>>5304941
Are they really selling that well? how does someone know? I've really been wondering how well Bionicle is doing and I hoped that it was selling, but I always see an abundance of sets at the stores so I have no idea, I guess it's a good sign that they keep stocking them and still have the Bionicle display box up at my local Target, though.
>>
>>5305192
>toysrus
why would anyone go there if they can get them $5 cheaper at bigw/kmart?
>>
>>5305246
This. TRU is a ripoff 99% of the time. The only reason to go there is if you want to try and find collectors' items like busts and whatnot.
>>
>>5305192
Wow, thats extra shit. I'll probably do a S@H order come January then. Really us Aussies should all chip in to make a large order and get express shipping, so we can get new bonkles a week into the new year.

Also Im curious, when are we getting other lines? I assume Nexo Knights will be released January, right?

EB Games is oddly one of the most reasonable stores around my area. In New Zealand at least, I've found that every other store except The Warehouse will either sell their vidya-related stuff for even higher prices than EB or discount their shit so steeply when they need to get rid of them. Hell, as far as my location goes EB even sells PTCG boosters significantly cheaper than a dedicated toy store that has them way overpriced and I'm kind of pissed that this is even the case.

But yeah, online shops are vastly better in pricing the majority of the time, though I've found Bonkles to be cheaper in physical shops. Huh.

It seems to vary from place to place. In the USA they seem to be doing okay, meanwhile the line seems to have flopped in Poland, not sure about the UK or anywhere else in Europe.
>>
>>5305474
Seems to be doing fine over here in the UK, but the pocket money sets (The Protectors) were more popular for obvious reasons
>>
Did anyone even buy that Bionicle activity book? What was the promotional mask inside? I haven't heard a word of it and the book's been out a couple days already.
>>
>>5305510

It was Ekimu's Protector mask, 1:1.
>>

>>
>>5305474
ASDA (Walmart) stopped selling Bonkles after the first wave. I picked up Lewa on clearance. TRU is still selling both waves and there's at least two stores pretending that the Protectors are still new.

They do have gearboxes, good eye!

But I'm pretty sure the things you're referring to are the "roll cages."
The exposed balljoints on standard CCBS torsos provide very decent hardpoints for attaching things, so I designed a technic assembly that clips on to fill space, add some "industrial" detail, and provide extra surface for greebles and details.

The MTron mech has a gundam-ass "back-shield" to protect its chassis, while the Ice Planet mech has an "ore storage" pod.

Just waiting on an LDD order to come in and I can build these IRL
>>
Lewa, Pohatu, Gali, Basher, Slicer, and Scorpio are on sale for 10.49 in the lego website with free shipping.
>>
>>5305567
Might have just been my town but ASDA didn't carry them at all. Even the first wave.
>>
>>5305691
One of my two local ASDAs only had the Masters while the other had Masters, Protectors and LoSS. I only saw G2 figures in the second one once, so I guess they sold as well as the Ben 10 ultrabuilds where I live. The first store had two Lewas and Pohatu on clearance for about month. I was going to get Pohatu, but he had gone, so I took the last Bonkle in the store.

Rendered in "instructions-style".

I actually have Mtron Mech 90% built. All it needs is the fluorogreen sword and a decent codpiece to fill the gap in its hips.
>>
What is everyone using to fill the spot for Gali's 3rd mask? Since every toa already has 3 except for her there's just an empty space that needs to be filled. I remember quite a few months ago there was a mask maker anon who claimed to be making his own but after some family drama he disappeared. Did anyone else do it? Has anyone even tried replicating G2 masks successfully yet?
>>

Only the big toa, and Onua doesn't even have an official instruction page about his combo, although it can be seen through the unity game's files. I saw someone post their recreation and copied it and it was pretty good for a combiner.

>>

I think he's a solid set. Large black chestpiece is nice. Purple pieces, too.

I think 2016 looks like an improvement overall but the parts that come with 2015 are definitely worth it, especially if you can find him on clearance or something.

But I'm a completionist and had to buy them all anyway so maybe my opinion is skewed. I liked him more than expected and alongside Korgot he's a good set.

Mostly wishful thinking, but I'm hoping they look threatening enough and that Storm has wings because I'm still salty about Battle Bat.

2015 Onua and Kopaka both indeed have stickers, but they're fine.

I wonder how their masks would look on the 2016 ones, I think the JUST masks may be offputting to some

I can draw decently, but Bionicle characters are a pain for me. I just can't get them right, so I just sketch my ideas in this quick, scribble-like manner. But I still need to do it because it helps me with MOCing too.

So, I've finally come up with 'backstory' for my MOCs. I decided to come up with these on the fly after realising I'd created 17 separate MOCS without having to disassemble any, and thought a shared 'canon' would be fun to devise. Apologies for the photographs not being up-to-my-usual-snuff, but the weather is terrible and consequently I can't get my typical good lighting. If you're curious about individual figures, I have solo shots. Anyway; without further ado:

>”Together, we can do anything!”
>Toa Pauzu was split in two during his descent from the heavens; a result of a meteorite colliding with him on his way to Okoto. The result was a fire Master bereft of temper – calm, collected and Zen, much to the befuddlement of his tribe. This did not last long however, as his missing half was quick to find him. Calling itself ‘Kazau’, the villager-sized imp of a Toa is able to bond with his soul brother, causing a dramatic shift in personality as Pauzu becomes pent up with volcanic power!

>”You say jump? I’ll say: How high.”
>Ojiko is a Master of Insects. While his kin playfully chide him for the apparent uselessness of his innate power, this Toa proves their fun and games false on a regular basis. Not only can he bend all the creepy crawlies of Okoto to his whim, he is also possessed of a bug’s strength relative to his size – he can leap tall buildings, carry ten times his own weight and even punch through solid steel. Not bad.

>”The six of us are bound by forces beyond our understanding.”
>The jungles of Okoto were much more volatile in ancient times, if it can be believed. This has given the acid-scarred Pakendi a grim, bony appearance when compared to his fellows; yet his is the heart which beats with the most compassion. The old ‘shaman’ of the group, Pakendi uses his Mask of Visions to guide and to keep safe those who are closest to him – his family. He has a particular rapport with Pauzu… at least, when Kazau isn’t around.

>”When United, unbreakable; when Dutiful, unstoppable; our Destiny calls!”
>Magnetism is both a marvellous and dangerous thing in a world of the biomechanical. It can be used for great good, or for cataclysmic evil. It was perhaps for this reason that the gods imbued Toa Zehu with this power: a determined yet innocent mind, almost child-like in his world view. Originally, he was the fabled seventh of the group – but since Toa Haruru’s betrayal, he has led the group with a slightly heavier heart than he was born with.

>”Anyone stands in my way? Send ‘em down to the Pit!”
>Bold, brash and cantankerous, Nohewa is notoriously popular with the people of Okoto, despite his skull-like Mask of Tides. He regularly aids the coastal tribes in trawling up fish and unlike his other, more defence-oriented brethren prefers to tackle threats to the island head-on. This has resulted in a loss of his right arm – frozen to a husk by a Northern Sea Drake – but not even this halted the Master of Water. He had the Mask Makers weld a cannon to the stump, and went about as usual the day after.

>”Beneath these skies, my brothers will always be safe.”
>Lauei, Toa of Lightning is the only female member of the group. While her frame is lighter than the others – almost waifish when compared with Zehu or Nohewa – this has seemingly been compensated for. While having the least in terms of physical strength, she is the most powerful in terms of raw, elemental energy. The biological matter beneath her metal exoskeleton crackles with power, and even seems to fluctuate between solid, liquid and gaseous forms. This permits her unique benefits, including (but not limited to) the ability to leave her ‘shell’ and become intangible.

2/2, but more coming.

>”Ook.”
>Gop is an Okoto Mountain Gorilla. Traditionally, these creatures escaped Kejeku’s interest as they were extremely docile despite their immense physical power. Yet one day, he found his yellowfruit shipments raided; utterly destroyed. The perpetrator was Gop, and he has worked for the Beast Lord ever since, doing his bidding in exchange for the pulpy goodness he craves.

>”Surrender, and you will have one less scar this day.”
>Shika Nua is a beast-woman: a rare breed of creature from the long-since disappeared Southern Isles. Specifically, she is a half-snake, and this makes her fighting style unpredictable as it is – to say nothing of her six arms, each as dextrous as its fellow. While the beast tribes are usually fiercely independent and distrustful of the Okotoan people, she was drawn to Kejeku upon learning that they shared a common enemy: Ozar, King of the Bandits. Since meeting him she has served loyally, all in the hopes that one day she will be able to go up against Ozar in the arena, and rid the island of his miserable existence.

>”Come one, come all – to the show of a lifetime!”
>Kejeku is a member of the tribe of stone. Once upon a time, he was a big game hunter who brought many an exotic meal back to his people. Yet, greed got the better of him when he travelled to the City of the Mask Makers as he devised a plan for affluence. He would tame beasts big and small; but all deadly, and pit them against the gladiators of the arena for sport and for profit. He is now wealthy enough to run what amounts to a monopoly on the fights, and is barely shy of being a gangster. When he participates in the arena himself, he does so astride a golden chariot pulled by the most loyal-yet-volatile of Okoto’s monstrous animals: the Giant Fire Ant.

>>
>”Grrrrr…”
>The Energy Hound is quite possibly the most lethal of all wildlife in Okoto (only the best for the Beast Lord). Their innate power is sonic in nature, and permits their vocalizations to vibrate matter. If one were to bark, it could quite feasibly liquefy and opponent from the inside. Naturally, shortly after its first match, the Mask Makers imposed a rule that such creatures should be ‘soundproofed’ if fighting against gladiators.

2/2, but more coming - that is, if this isn't too annoying.

>”Without Unity, Duty, or Destiny, I am at last… free.”
>Haruru was once the Toa of Sonics. He was a strong leader and a fierce friend. However, it would seem that the Toa Masters are not faultless creatures, and even they may falter at times. Seduced by an unknown power, Haruru is now a ‘Shadow Toa’, and uses his powers for personal gain. His Mask of Sonics and his Toa Tool, the Vibrating Axe, give his offensive qualities similar power to energy hounds – yet, this is an intelligent being; one which obeys no law made by society or by nature. He has been known to kill those who stand in his way, and has made an enemy of the forces of good as a result.

>”I have toiled long in the desert sun. Okoto WILL be mine.”
>A beast-man from the Southern Isles, Ozar has used his gods-given physical strength to carve out an identity as the King of Bandits. His followers are typically exiles and misfits; those who want power, wealth and revenge. Ultimately, Ozar cares little for his servants. They are means to an end: complete domination of the island. He has been defeated numerous times by both the Toa and by Ekimu and Makuta… but each defeat only makes him more determined, and more tenacious. Only death will stop Ozar, King of the Bandits.

>”…”
Little is known of the entity which is known amidst whispers and rumour as the ‘Lord of Skull Spiders’. It seems to be little more than a wraith, or a shadow: something yet to come, or something that could possibly be. It haunts the outskirts of the City of the Mask Makers, floating through the night air – watching, silently. Many villagers see it as a bad omen, and attempt to steer clear of it whenever possible.

1/2
>>
>“Your face. GIVE IT to me.”
>Dakali’a was the rose of the gladiatorial arena. She was as beautiful as she was unbeatable; yet one day an underhanded attack involving corrosive acid permanently scarred her shapely, metal visage. Gradually, she lost popularity with the audiences, and was driven to madness. Dakali’a now fights with her shame hidden behind a hideous ceremonial mask, and does so for one purpose only: to disfigure as many of her opponents as she can.

2/2. That's all for now. Hope it didn't take up too much of the thread, and hope it was an interesting little read. Sorry I tripped over the last hurdle there by not greentexting one of the entries, too.

Lorewise it's cool because he's basically a corpse being puppeteered by whoever has the Mask of Skull Spiders, and setwise I appreciate that we got two villains with skull masks, two villains with bull skull masks, and two sets with spider masks. That being said, I would have liked it if his skull spider mask had a unique color.

At least they tied his mask into the story.

uh, so a set is good because it uses a new mask mold ? also, this is the first set to use the skull spider mask as default mask, and it's clearly better than at least skull grinder, and IMO warrior too.

Yes, that's why the 2015 winter wave is better than the 2015 summer wave.

>also, this is the first set to use the skull spider mask as default mask
Winter wave included Skull Spiders as separate entities with every set, so those were already default.

>clearly better than at least skull grinder
Free enemy for Ekimu.

>IMO warrior too
Picking on the little guy, now?

What ? I have my opinion and for me, skull warrior isn't very good, deal with it.

He's literally Skull Slicer after trading out his extra arms for a bow. They're both as good as one another in my book.

Only Ekimu lives up to the hype.

No ? maybe from a build viewpoint, but clearly not as a final render, the armors and such make them look very different, maybe they share the most similarities between skulls for you (and I would argue that skull grinder is more similar to warrior) but they clearly don't look like each other.
