OPM has been around for a while. Think of it this way, GSC literally made an entire klk display and thingy in wonfes 2014 winter I believe but literally every single garage kit around in the other two dealer booth halls were kancolle, kancolle, kancolle, kancolle, kancolle, warhammer scale kancolle I shit you not, and more kancolle. Well, the sequel, that is. I just count it as one big whole, since it's not like it's an alternate story. But yeah, as a whole, Tokyo Ghoul is just fine.
What you might be referring to is the attention paid to the anime? In which case you are sort of correct. The Root A anime has ended (thankfully), so focus on that is slowly dying out, but there will be a season 3.
The anime, in the long run, isn't really that important. It's a pretty shitty adaptation, pretty much a typical Studio Pierrot low-quality/high profit cashgrab, but the manga is doing just fine on its own.
More than just occasionally, its volumes hit the top 3 sales, and quite often, they're top 5.

KLK is similar to Gurren Lagann -- loud, fun, very eyecatching animation, just not a lot of depth (or...any.) There's nothing wrong with it, but it's the sort of thing people will pan to make their own preferencein shows seem more tasteful and deep, even though it isn't supposed to be either of these things.
