Depends on which part of the town you're looking at.

The diorama committee during the grand assembly of the 7th /toy/ congress back in 2010.
>>
>>5263845
>>5263772

Article 5 of DIORAMAS AND DISPLAY SETUPS states that:
"All dioramas to be used with figurines, regardless of country of origin, shall be limited to depict only an alley or a sewer.

"Dioramas depicting any other locations other than stated shall be considered illegal and will be destroyed.

"Collectors, manufacturers, and customizers who shall be found in the possession of illegal dioramas shall be penalized with a fine of $200 and sentenced to 1 month in a correctional facility for every illegal diorama in his possession."

I remember when Senator Ninja Turtle established this. It was glorious.
>>
>>5263876
Indeed. It was a very historical moment for /toy/ soldiers everywhere.
>>

>implying Reddit did it first
It wasn't funny in 2003, and it's still not funny in 2015.
>>
The ACBA committee
>>
Jokes aside, I've taken to buying doll houses to get some basic starting play sets for non-super situations.
>>
>>5264004
All joking aside, I agree. The ACBA is king of this cliché.

It's overused, overdone, and entirely uncreative. It seems like every diorama ever comprises of this or a brick wall.
>>
Because the people who do acba always want a gritty dark place for their marvel legends to fight in. I've been thinking of trying to make a sort of desert area, but also have nowhere to put it.
>>
>>5264108
I'd love to have a quarry or some kind of downtown area with plastic furniture for my Karate Bugmen to look cool in but, like you, literally no place to keep it.

Also no skill to make it, but I can dream.

The ACBA committee.
>>
I wish I even knew how to make any kind of diorama, there's tons of cool shit I'd like to make but I don't have the skills or the space for.
Like an EEnE style culdesac.

Todd McFarlane.
>>
>>5264112
They are super easy to make honestly. Just go to home depot and dollar tree and get some stuff and do some painting. Also these brick wall/alleys are the easiest to make.
>>
>>5263772
The ACBA crowd, which will pretend to be open ut really just wants more of the same sort of pictures of marvel legends figures ad nauseum.
>>
>>5264399
Do they even buy any other line as long as it has cape characters?
I only own one ML which I bought to use as a base for a custom and it's ass compared to anything else I have.

Shit, I think I'll have to try redoing the entirety of the torso's articulation for how shit it is.
>>
>>5264394

I've been thinking of making a diorama myself, but I don't know where to start. You got any good step by step tutorials on where to make a simple diorama?

Doesn't have to be an alley/sewer, BTW.
>>
>>5264531
Yeah, I also have one.
It's complete dogshit compared to my other figures, why do people keep buying these things? It's like funko pops, they're so shitty but everyone buys them for some reason.
>>
>>5264589
My guess it's brand loyalty on the part of some and character exclusivity for others which is the only reasonable appeal.
If I want a J. Jameson, a comic Spiderman, or a Vision I must buy an ML even if they are garbage.

Buy buildable dioramas like what McFarlane sells if you want something different.

You can scale them up pretty easily if you buy multiple sets.
>>
>>5263772
I believe Stan Lee headed it up.

Dang, that looks slick.

I keep zeroing in on it, son of a bitch.
>>
>>5264531
They occasionally branch in to other stuff, but they clearly have a hardcore bend towards marvel legends and NECA. DC stuff gets in, but not at high volume.
>>
>>5263772
I've been trying to find inspiration for a good diorama but this is all i see. Allies and sewers are so plain and boring
>>
>>5265107
What kind of figures are you trying to display? Because really that's the most important factor.

I've been told they want it out by Christmas, but they're not making any promises.
So December/January release date, unless that's changed from when i last talked with the McFarlane reps.

>>5265107
Just buy a couple of these and you can easily make your own city street or run down neighborhood. They're roughly 1/24 scale, so the doors themselves and other single piece objects won't be in scale with anything else.
Everything else can be built up.
>>
>>5265117
I have room for 3 separate dioramas. i want the first one to be for Halo figures, Xenomorphs, and my samus figma. I kind of have an idea of how I want that to look and just need to start working on it. the second I want to be for my NECA and SH Monsterarts Godzillas. I think a city would naturally be the way to go. and the third will be for my Marvel Legends and Marvel Select figures. That's the tricky one, since it's so easy to fall into the trap of just making a plain back alley.

For your Marvel Figures, why not a busy main street brawl. Instead of a the usual dank, dreary alleyway bullshit, have some vibrant, brightly lit storefronts, wrecked up phone booths, benches, fire hydrants, all that stuff. Make it bright colored, high energy, and comic booky.

Or hell even just a rooftop with a nice cityscape backdrop.

As for your Monsterarts and NECA stuff, I'd recommend looking into the Monsterarts Effect packs. There's three or so different sets I think, and each of them come with some little wrecked up buildings you could touch up with a little paint, beam effects, and even some scale military vehicles. Or you could go a little off road and make it a tropical setting, for a Monster Island thing.
>>
I'm in a sort of reforming my collection kind of mindset so I'm getting now just what I think looks cool or amusing.
Kind of want one of those alleyways for my schoolgirl figmas to hang out and have tea now.

This is actually a really good idea. Thanks a lot, man!

my best friend actually just got my those for my birthday. I think there's only 2, but it'll definitely make building a city easier

I've been working on a Japanese Dojo sort of thing. Most of the initial work is done, need to look at getting decorations and junk to make it less empty.

How would it work to make dioramas the same way those 3D puzzles are made?
I really want different scenarios but I don't have the space to put more than one out.
>>
>>5263772
Urban stuff is fun to make as well as easy. You can also get a lot of use out of them.

On the other-hand it would be nice to see something different.

I've been meaning to make a Smash Bros one and a grungy 80s arcade one for ages now. Just got my vidya and other figures sitting on the wood I bought for the base.

Plus a random foam hill for some tabletop game that I saw on sale at a comic shop.

Those are the easiest to make, can have as much or little detail as you want, can be used with several different themes, and if you mess up it don't matter since it's not somethiing fancy like the Louvre.
