How did the Astray become such a mainstay design, despite not being in a show?
>>
>>5254261

katana
>>
>>5254261
SEED anime was kinda shitty where as the Astray manga were awesome and made SEED more interesting, with better cast of characters. And yes, katana.

Plus everyone loves all kinds of MSV
>>
should i get a metal build gold frame astray or a RD penelope?
>>
>>5254343
Which design you like more?
The metal build is probably the best iteration the gold frame will ever have and its just a bit more expensive than the penelope, not to mention all its weapons and diecast frame
>>
>>5254343
gold frame
the penelope is practically a brick and you can get a cheaper model with the Gundoom that looks fairly good
>>
>>5254343

One you can actually play with, one is a mess of spiky needles that will damage you and themselves just by touching it. I was talking about the Astray but then I realized you said Penelope and not Xi so the same thing applies to both of them lol
>>
So, wonder if anything revealed will get in to the next release schedule. Right now, we only know the Dom for regular releases, and exclusives could come whenever.

Overall, only thing I'm sure on is the grunt Botune will likely be ab exclusive, and the same goes for the Char Dom and G-3. Provided they get releases, of course.
>>
>>5255164

I would like to think the GM will. Sirbine, too. But I can't say.

And botune is a definite exclusive. Sad, but i know for a fact i'm going to buy a few. (like every dunbine release so far)

>>
>>5255180

>>
Well, I guess if they ever decide to make more Fafner RD's, now they have a grand total of 7 new Fafners to do.

1446237602810.jpg
83 KB, 1280x720
>>5255472
The more I think about the more I belive that it was the decision to raise prices that has killed the Fafner line. I think Bandai isn't willing to put out the rest of the Nothung Models because the can't justify pricing them at more then the 4000 the originally went for(not even counting retail discount). The line was put on the shelf at exactly the time prices started rising wildly.

It makes no sense otherwise, because now would be the best time possible to release figures for the show, and the line sold well enough to continue for a good while. I think the Einherjer Models do raise the chances of getting new stuff down the line because they'll be completely new molds. I want some other company willing to do non-scale stuff to make the Zero Fafner too.
>>
>>5253823

Surely they'll release the Second L Blue Frame to go along with the sword right? Stoked if they do, it's my favourite out of the frames. For all the SEED RDs released, I wonder why they never touched on the Astrays other than the Out Frame.
>>
>>5254343
I have the Penelope but not the Gold Frame but objectively speaking, Gold Frame is a better toy just by Metal Build's track record and having the Exia.

For me personally, Hathaway's Flash products just don't come by often, and I have a boner for weird obscure shit. Even when I pose it as Odysseus Gundam without all that armor, the waist is just limited by the way it was designed and doesn't move much. Still, I knew that heading in and love it as a giant display piece. It's a really nice looking brick but is just not for everybody. Goes well with my RD Xi Gundam.
>>
So if you don't like OYW or SEED this event was basically a big fuck you.
>>
>>5255859
There's some Ka signature Zeta stuff too I guess.
>>
>>5255859
Yep, and on the Seed side it really annoyed me they displayed the Gunbarrel Striker equipped to the Strike instead of the Dagger 105.

It means they're selling vanilla Strike AGAIN instead of using a new mold, which is even worse in this case since the only time we see the Gunbarrel Striker, it's used by a 105 (Gunbarrel Strike only shows up in games).
>>
I'm kinda bummed that we didn't get the Seed druggies, and instead got shown the Sword Calamity before the normal Calamity. Are the druggy trio not popular in Japan?
>>
I'n still annoyed they're doing Strike Noir but no Stargazer yet.
>>
Blu Duel and Verde Buster are cool. So is Sword Calamity. Don't care for Luna Zaku, BuCue or Blast Impulse. Really wish they would go for more series diversity during these events.
>>
>>5255941
Well you can't really blame them for going where the money is. SEED sells in Japan, and Bandai saves on production costs by reusing older molds (on the GAT machines at least).
>>
>>5255946
Surprised they haven't touched the Astrays yet, as we all know Red Frame will sell like hotcakes.

Still though, I personally hope they focus on Seed/Destiny before Astray. Strike Freedom and Destiny really need updates, Infinite Justice needs to happen, a few other main suits, and of course, we need grunt suits. Ginn, Guaiz, ZAKU Warrior, GOUF Ignited, and more.
>>
>>5255941
Seemed like an odd selection of MS for a supposed SEED centric exhibit.

Blu Duel and Verde Buster + Kerebros all from Star Gazer. Any hope for the Slaughter Dagger?

Sword Calamity and Gunbarrel Strike from MSV.

Blast Impulse and Luna Zaku from Destiny.

That means the later two sublines are unconfirmed as they did not begin with the Calamity and Force Impulse.

Even with the Stargazer set, they'll need to see if Noir sells well, otherwise the best they could do is web exclusive.

Other than that, RD has the ANiME line to bank on.
>>
>>5255785
Yeah, I have a thing for obscure shit too. My boss is making me work an extra day so I've decided to blow all the OT money on something I'll usually not get. And Penelope and Gold Frame checks both the obscure box and the price range.

There are plenty of reviews of the gold framebut not many reviews on the Pene online so thanks for the info.

I think I'll go with the goldframe, if the Pene is a brick anyway I might as well go with the GFF Pene since it's a prettier brick that's cheaper.

cheers

I think Barbados might get a quick release since it's ongoing currently.
>>
>>5256723
Good, it's such a nice design.
>>
>>5257215
Yeah, it's pretty cool.
Another point in Barbatos's favor is that it seems to be the only RD there that actually had accessories layer out, including an alternative arm.

Likely, it's getting fast tracked into a release for being the lead suit, like with G-Reco and Age.

I got TV unit 1 for $40 a couple years ago. One of the best toy deals I've ever gotten. I'd love to get the Griffon to go with it sometime. The advantage the RD is likely to have is articulation though. I might get Ingram 1 and Griffon on the off chance they are reasonably priced.

Woohoo, FINALLY got an RD Eva Unit-01! A B grade condition preowned popped up on amiami and I snatched that up.

wait wait....you mean there are two releases of the RD V2, one is crap and one is good? Do you mean there is a difference between the original RD V2 sold by itself, and the V2 that is sold in the Assault Buster V2 RD?

Yeah. I collected the Revoltech Eva figs for the longest time since it was the only line that made all the Evas. But as I got more and e into RDs, I started to realize how inferior Revoltechs were.

Sure would ba nice if one day they came back to the Eva line and finish up the Rebuilds, and maybe even eventually do the TV series versions.

>>5266738
Looks great, except for the shoulder area looking a little janky, though I think that's just an oversight on Bandai's part. I'm guessing that the shoulder armor is on a separate hinge and Bandai simply neglected to bring the armor down after they finished posing. Hope that's the case, anyways.

Seems like this prototype has the hidden lower leg holster and the command car looks great! Dang I'm so excited for these!

>>5265114
Same, as excellent as the Yamato Ingrams are, I'm not entirely comfortable handling them too much (especially worried I'll do something to ruin the pseudo-leather joint coverings).

This is so much uglier than the HG kit in my opinion. The yellow is sickly, the blue is too primary blue for my tastes, the frame is too pale of a grey, and the open hand looks huge. Man, I hope that thing poses like a dream, cause that's the only hope it has...and that's gonna be a hard one, cause the HG can already pose really fucking well.

These look rad except for one thing: those gross powder blue joint coverings. It reminds me of the rubber parts that came with those shitty old sub-HG Patlabor kits--they were a very similar blue. >>5266866
Nah, he definitely means sub HG. There was a line of no-grade, 1/144 scale (I think) Patlabor kits that came out long before the MGs. I had the Ingram and the Helldiver from that line, and the Ingram was so bad that I ended up using it as a BB gun target, haha. The Helldiver is still intact somewhere, I think.
>>
>>5266796
Here's a thought. Bandai release this with light blue sleeves, and then months later, release a movie variant colour of the 2 exact same mould, but with the movie colours (including darker sleeve..

I know it's a bit off topic from RDs but this is probably the best place to ask.
I just ordered the G.F.F. FA-78 Gundam since I'm studying Hajime Katoki designs for some college project, what sort of quality can I expect from this?

Also why is it so fucking hard to find decent pictures for G.F.F stuff? I seen a Force Impluse that looked quite nice but I can't find shit about it other than 1999.jp and MFC, which only has 1 picture of it.
>>
>>5267302
GFF is an old line. You can find much hi-res pictures of them.

As for quality of the paint-apps, it flip-flops all over the place. GFF was kinda notorious for poor QC back in the day.

>>5267360
GFFs do a solid job of being display pieces with the generous amount of paint apps and tampo printing. Their shortcomings are most obvious when you try to mess with them (especially if they have any extraneous parts attached, such as armor bits). If you just need him to stand there and look rad, it should serve your needs nicely!

>>5268993
No worries man, you're talking RDs so you're right on topic!

On average, a single RD is probably going to cost you around 800JPY to ship via RSAL (the slowest, trackable service). I think the largest RD only order I've done with Mandy is when I picked up Sandrock + Heavyarms + Option Set, and shipping for that was only 1380JPY via RSAL.

In the US, we don't get charged customs fees so unfortunately I can't help you there, but all the packages I've received from Mandarake have always been marked as merchandise with the item's actual value.

There is a "notes" section you can fill out when you make an order, and you could try requesting that they mark the item as a gift there. Mandy is pretty good about responding to requests made in the notes section, I'll sometimes ask that they provide me with the shipping rates for other services (ie "please let me know the EMS and DHL shipping costs as well), and they've always done so nicely.

Vilkiss is a great looking RD. He's a bit finicky to mess around with due to all the pointy bits sticking out everywhere, try to move one part and you're liable to bump into two more, but that's just the nature of the design. The sculpt and paint apps look great, the chrome V-fin is a very nice touch and the figure is extremely well articulated.

I've never transformed mine, but it involves essentially disassembling the whole figure and then reassembling it; many folks have reported that it's kind of a pain to do. As someone who's never seen Cross Ange though, I'm quite happy with this RD in humanoid form and I think if you're a fan of the show/design it'd be worth picking up.

>>5269629
Still a mystery at this point, we can't say for sure that the squad cars will be included at all.

>GFFs do a solid job of being display pieces
It arrived today and it sure as hell does haha. It has quite a few armour add-ons, some of which don't want to stay on particularly well.
The legs are also connected straight up into the body really limiting their movement, not that they could move since the front skirts are moulded in place.
But as you say it is more of a display piece and it looks very nice anyway so I'm not all that bothered about articulation, that's what my RDs are for. Considering some of the later GFFs like God Gundam/Nobel or the S Deep Striker since those look quite nice and seem to be more articulate.
Anyway I'll stop going off-topic now, quite happy with this little guy.

Really stoked to see a chance at RD Ingrams is happening(just beside myself with joy that they're going for the TV/OVA iterations as well). So will be for sure getting one of each if they happen!

Just conflicted a bit now if I wanna give my Yamato's, the TV colour markings still now though.

>>5266796
Admittedly I don't really mind it too much myself, but being based the TV iterations; it's likely to stay that way until they make movie colour exclusives(like >>5267279 wrote) I'm thinking. Definitely staying that colour if they're getting the designer Izubuchi to help out though.

>>5265114

Still think you guys shouldn't have to worry, with the play I've subjected my Alphonse to; but can understand with the increasing values being attached to them now.

Will all be because of you, and we will blame you... Hunt you down for it.

>>5269629
Alphonse wins between the two with me still, but the extra markings on TV Unit-02 definitely make it pop more so than it does in the movie I feel.

Likely they'll make Optional Parts Set(s) and include Command car in one of those I think. If they make the Movie 2 Ingrams, probably will take a command car added in to move those probably.
>>

Because I'd rather get Unit 1 with all weapons, and tow cable, since one of the best scenes in the show involved it using the shotgun.

The detail, gimmicks and paint job keep getting better with each release but the quality of the stuff they use for the joints marginally so.
Only one I've ever had a problem with was the original OO Gundam but I tried posing the thing a few times a week with that fuck huge buster sword until the arm went limp.

Think of them as a statue that you can re-pose. If you plan to mess with them like an RD, Figma, etc you're going to end up wearing out the metal on metal joints and there will not be a damn thing you can do to re tighten them.

>I ended up just searching the entire site for Robot Spirits and browsing everything that came up, which worked fine, but would be nice to filter out the non-preowned stuff.

Honestly, I have no idea why that category just doesn't work.
Mostly, I do what you did and search RDs or I just got to the Gundam Toys and Robots sections in the preowned section.
They do need to fix that drop down category. Its never worked for as long as I've been regularly checking the preowned section.

>How much did AmiAmi want for the Jegan? And how many have ya got now?
7980 yen for an A grade, which is cheaper than what they usually turn up for on Manda unopened.
And this will be my 4th Jegan, which I'll be satisfied with for a while. 4 is a good number for a squad. And with the Zulu, I'll have 4 of it as well.

Added the Jegan and Zulu to my preorder of Act 5 Stage reissues and the rest to my end of month order, since my Unit 01 I snagged recently is in, so I'll get my 2 Evas together.
Though, if I had seen this coming, I wouldn't have added Enryugo to the end of month order...

>>5276669
I bought my Dingoes preowned off Mandarake, and fortunately both have scuff-free chest paint. I can see how that could happen though, and it would drive me nuts as well.

IIRC, Canada-anon had some scuffed Dingoes as well, and what he did was paint over it with some neat white trim. End result was really nice!
>>
>>5276636

Helps spread out accessory costs, too. The RX-78 is including a ton of accessories and effects parts. The Dom really wouldn't have much by comparison to the RX-78 or Char's Zaku. Giant Bazooka, heat sabre ignited and unignited, maybe an effect part or two for bazooka firing and the beam scatter gun in the chest. Tossing the shield in there helps since its pretty iconic to dealing with the Doms and is one less thing to include with the RX-78 itself.

I have a gut feeling that an option pack with the javelin, split shield and Gundam hammer + extra effect parts will be released.

Chances are, the mass production units will sell like hotcakes as I tend to get 3 Doms and # green Zakus. I hope even the GM comes with effect parts so that they multiple parts could be consolidated into one figure, e.g. the blue thrust parts for the backpack and feet.
>>

>>
>>5276750
Funny thing is, after a billion Zaku iterations(MG, RG etc) and even expies(Geara, Leo, Ginn, Tieren, Graze), we've come to realise that we could never go wrong with the original Zaku, as in the original styling. The F2, Kai and RG are no timeless substitutes for it, as the very original one is now the most timeless.

If we want a Zaku like design, get the Zaku, not the Leo. If we want a GM design, get the GM, not the Jegan or Strike Dagger.

anyone here has one of the metal build exias? I kinda want one but holy fuck those aftermarket prices, 30k yen or more is too much to shell for a single figure, even if it is my favorite Gundam I'm still thiking about it

Dang anon, you used to be cool...

Haha, nah that's awesome! The Guards Zulu is a perfect squad leader.

>>5276808
Oh man, those Zaku accessories!.
>>
>>5280221
I didn't say I didn't like my Guard's Type Geara Zulu. It is nice.
Speaking of Zulus, the real perfect squad leader would be Angelo's Rozen Zulu. Its the last suit from Unicorn I want made...

>>5279982
Dunno about the Falke since I only just ordered one recently, but even if they are a bit dated, I feel the M9s are still fine. I've got the Mao, Kurz and Desert type, and like them all just fine.

I think the Lambda Driver and the Laevatein have the best chance of reissue, though they could also forego the RD Laevatein in lieu of the Metal Build reissue they've already announced.

>>5279982
The M9s certainly can't match the Lamda Driver Arbalest's range of motion, but they're still solid figures with very sharp sculpts, great accessories, and they pose very well despite their age.

But yeah, they are essentially the same figure as the Falke, so if the Falke doesn't click with you you'll probably not be thrilled with the M9. Still, the sweet accessory assortment of the M9s are worth a look!

Who is buying all these giant expensive AK figures that they keep making more?
>>
>>5280090
your pic is of the MB metal build exia avalanche 20,000 yen and the optional Dash pack 4,800 yen when they were released . Probably not going to find it for less . You can look for the cheaper Exia like Exia repair or the normal exia.
>>
>>5280316
I'm tempted to get this one. I like Quin Mantha.
What can I expect in terms of size and articulation?

I was just poking fun at your admission that you didn't have 4 standard Zulus, anon. No harm meant! I like the Guards Zulu too, though the reduced range of motion in the legs is annoying. And yes, a Rozen Zulu would be the bee's knees!

>>5280316
Dang, that's unexpected.

>>5280329
I'm gonna guesstimate it'll be around 6-8 inches tall (just going by the average scale of past AK release). Articulation should be pretty good.

Anyone here pick up the AK Neo-Zeong? How is it?
>>
>>5280329
Excellent all you could possibly want articulation. About 200mm, according to pics. There's a pic with a woman holding it and it looks quite large.
>>
>>5280355
>>5280357
I still hope against hope for an RD Quin Mantha(Though if Big Zam happens, I will have renewed hope), so if I get this, this will hold me over.

Assuming ZZ Gundam is a standard-ish size for a Gundam, well, most Assault Kingdom figures are around 3" tall. So I suppose if they want to go for proper scaling, the Quin would be around 7-8" tall? And I'd assume the articulation would be quite nice, nearly on par with a Robot Damashii. AK's always been good about that.

I simply don't understand the high price of these "giant" AK figures that are really just slightly oversized Robot Damashiis...that for some reason cost double what a standard RD does (or more). Why? What is the logic here? I would be so down if they cost as much as a RD.
>>
>>5280387

do they actually sell a good Quin Mantha model?

Interested real bad, but seeing after seeing some preview pics of the soon to be released AK Psycho Gundam; not moving for one until it's released and reviewed now...

Higher price isn't unreasonable with the detailing in the promo pics, but if they're detailed the same amount as the regular figures(way more likely); those prices are ridiculous I think.

What's worse is the same preview pics of Psycho Gundam, showed the figure is supposed to be all ABS material. Admittedly pretty neat since these will be very sturdy figures at least then, but filling in those detail gaps will be a real pain if I went and tried to do them myself then... Ugh.

Really conflicted since I'm liking the proportion and stylized designs, these AK Mobile Armors are getting. Since this Quin-Mantha is coming out for Gundam ZZ's 30th Anniversary, kinda wanna see if they'll make a Psycho Gundam Mk. II with a similar look as the original AK Psycho Gundam.
>>
Does anybody here know if the exia repair 2 parts are compatible with the avalanche exia?
>>
>>5280437
I admittedly like the stylized look too, but not enough to pay the high asking price.

No way around that I'm not gonna come off as arrogant with this, but I'm not sure what I can recommend to help with that. Play with my Ingrams enough that they don't really get dust on them... Think it's only Unit-02 that I dust the odd time(or vacuumed slightly when it's time as a Christmas tree decoration got it covered in simulation snow fluff). So not a clue aside from what you know already I bet I'm sorry.

>>5276669
>>5276712
Yeah unfortunately had this on mine as well, sad to say it'll get worse most likely on the error bodies(replacements seem to have gotten thicker paint coats just...) The chests on the GM Sniper IIs are probably ABS material, and paints don't work well with the stuff; even dry... So those of us who play with them, likely to keep seeing this.

Give the chests a flat coat, and that should lessen the problem I think.

A pic of what I tried with one of them if it helps!
>>
>>5280437
For 100$ to goddamn thing should be painted, too many missing paint apps to justify.

>>

I bought the AK Neo Zeong and honestly, it's better than the HG in terms of articulation. Still, it's the neo zeong so that's not saying much. It was well worth the money.

Psycho Gundam? Ehhh. Not sure about that. I did preorder and put down the money so it's just a matter of waiting for release next month.

I want the queen mantha, to be honest. Guess I'm a stupid consumer for buying all of these, but i love assault kingdom.

Please put up photos when you get it! While I'm sounding pretty dismissive, I'd rather be completely wrong; and it looks a bit more complete like the promo shots.

These AKs for the Mobile Armors are just the right size, so would like to pick up one or two at least; but with ABS being the main material. Will be almost futile to fill in detail gaps myself... Price isn't too much a worry, since NZ can be found kinda cheap near my middleman even being a web exclusive.
>>
>>5280090
The RG Exia has some metal build-ish proportions, if you don't mind model kits. I personally settled for that when I missed the MB, like you.

I remember Schizophonic top coating his Geara Zulu.

The softer plastic is only used for the fingers and sinanju on the NZ. It feels like a miniature HG, no joke.

And sure thing. Just waiting for december to arrive.

>>5281009
I heard that Vilkiss was a floppy mess due to the parts swapping nature which will cause the parts to fall off even during robot mode.

Great choice, anon! Sinanju is an excellent RD. And yeah, as >>5281638 said, Gundam UC is definitely worth a watch! Be careful though, as it's an extremely effective toy/model commercial. Unicorn was entirely responsible for getting me into RDs in the first place (had to get that Stark Jegan!), which has caused no small amount of pain to my wallet.

Don't even get me started on how many times Bandai has coaxed me into buying yet another RX-0 toy, haha.

>>5283054

>Be careful though, as it's an extremely effective toy/model commercial.
Seriously... It also sucks because I jumped on the RD wagon a little late, so I missed out on a lot of the Unicorn releases like Stark Jegan or the standard Banshees. Also, every time I see an RX-0 get posted here I start craving more of them for myself... UGH there's too many figures I want! This hobby is horrible. Heh.
>>
>>5283108

plastic joints. Really tight. They don't really need ratches as the AK neo zeon is a less than half the size of the HG.
>>
>>5283306
I know what you mean, I missed out on a lot of the Unicorn releases too (mostly because I was busy collecting other stuff at the time).

The Gundams (and regular Banshee) shouldn't be too hard to find but the grunts are getting really expensive. Hopefully they'll do a reissue at some point.

I remember watching a YT video a couple months back of someone that did this. He put waterslide decals on and put a matte topcoat on. It seemed to work out well for him, I dont have the link for the video tho. I have been thinking of trying this

Ideally they'd remake the grunts with up-to-date engineering, like the ECOAS Jegan they're teasing us with. The released Unicorn grunts are sweet RDs, but they're definitely showing their age when compared to more modern releases.

>>5284073
It's definitely worth picking up! But yeah, a Sinanju Stein would be so sweet. A lot of Unicorn MSV would make for awesome RDs.

So, broken shield is confirmed to come with the Dom now, huh. Seems kind of weird to pack that in, considering a lot of people will be getting 3 Doms and they'll wind up with 3 shields. I think it would have made more sense in an option pack, and instead we would have gotten an unheated beam saber for the Dom (though I suppose for some people an unheated Dom saber is nonsense).
