i'll start us off with a pic of my new baby
So, can someone explain to me what the difference in brands is? Like, there's Arcadia, which used to be Yamato, right? And then Bandai does some stuff too.
Is one usually considered to be better than the other, or is it more a question of what VF you're looking for?
>>5399214
let me break it down for you
Arcadia:
used to be Yamato. Basically a garage kit manufacturer with a nice factory. Makes a small amount of hella expensive Valkyries from once neglected properties by bandai (Macross Zero, Macross Plus, VFX series and until recently SDF Macross) their toys are very very expensive but very high quality and have a lot of neat features. though they lack a lot of the tampo printed detail bandai toys have. dont compare hi metals with them as arcadia toys are really huge. they are more inline with DX chogokins. Sometimes QC can be hit and miss on certain toys
Bandai
Makes Hi metal and DX chogokin. Until recently only made frontier toys but is now returning to other franchises with Hi metal R and 1/35 stuff. Thier valks are very very good with lots of tampo printed details and some pretty nifty features. they have stepped up their game a lot in response to Arcadia. Hi metal R is the most affordable macross toy line right now and is super high quality. DX chogokins have a lot of nice frontier stuff but can be pricey on the aftermarket. They still focus on the newer macross series but that is changing now.
TL;DR
Arcadia
Expensive super high quality old and obscure macross stuff. if you want big perfect transform toys of SDF and Zero or VFX this is the only way right now
Bandai.
A lof of new macross stuff but some older stuff soming in too if you want frontier this is it but they have some new SDF stuff in hi metal
really neither is better they both make great toys and its nice to have a bit of both. but both companies will run hihg on the aftermarket depending on what you want and arcadia tends to be pricier due to limited production and no reissues

Thanks, anon!
http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?scode=FIGURE-002551-S001&page=top
Arcadia YF-19 is getting a re-release for anyone interested. I just got the Bandai DX Chokogin myself last month. It was my holy grail.
After watching a few comparison videos, I think the DX is much nicer than the Arcadia, but this re-release will make the Arcadia easier to obtain.
>>5399321
yeah i own the arcadia and the bandai *just* outstrips it IMO but the arcadia one has a lot of good points to it like a shit ton of missiles a two piece cockpit with an extra seat and an extra figure to sit in it. not to mention it is a little more anime accurate and is the plus not the frontier version. as well as some other little stuff. But the ankles and floopy wings are kinda crap. still a great toy tho
>>5399207
Anon, what's your technique for getting the 0S' rear landing gear bay doors open? They're so super tight, and there's so little space to get in there and get leverage. I'm worried I'm gonna break or chip something!
>>5399321
Also up on HLJ! Only 120JPY more expensive, and considering HLJ's better EMS rates, I'd suggest ordering with HLJ over AmiAmi here:
http://hlj.com/product/ACA82042/Sci
>>5399342
Yes, I do like the shape of the nose a tad more on the Arcadia, and the missiles are a huge plus.
I have my DX vf-19 currently displayed in battroid mode, but I'd like to get a model kit for the plane mode. What's the best one available currently? Preferably one in the same (or close to) scale as the DX.
>>5399356
i found a gap big enough to wedge my fingernail in and then i just wiggled it til it popped free. Its in there tight but it will come free if you're patient. and if it sort of springs back or feels lie it wont budge don't get discouraged you wont break it, it just takes a lot of time and patience. be careful not to squeeze the support axles for the landing gear too hard they are die cast but the paint cracked on mine a tiny bit. Its a pretty sexy bird overall though innit? also really really big, like seriously this thing is fukken huge and feels super solid
>>5399360
Hasegawa is the only one i know of and they require some serious modeling knowhow to make them look good.
>>5399371
Do you know if they've fixed the problem with the leg falling off for the 0S release?
>>5399252
>bandai hi metal
>super high quality
dont fucking lie, dumbass
>>5399396
pretty sure its a yes. mine has very solid legs even after extending them a few times and rotating them
No one ever talks about the Yamato Gn-u Dou battroid figures
They are great!
And the closest to actual lineart accurate figures that have been made
>>5399406
Good to know. I saw one for sale at Volks in Akihabara, but decided not to risk getting one with a broken leg.
How fast do DX Chogokins sell out from the time they're up for preorder?
>>5399552
I missed the pre-order for the VF-19 last year. It was up for about 15 minutes before orders closed.
>>5399567
Thankfully, the VF-31 isn't subject to the nostalgia hammer.
>>5399627
What do you search for? I can't ever seem to find anything.
>>5399652
DX θΆ ει
I use amiami to translate stuff I want into Japanese.
So what's the fucking deal with the hi metal R line, they're always pre-ordered out, are people that hard on for these?
I'm both saddened and glad the roy fokker is an exclusive as I can get him from nippon yasan at an ok price but I never used them before, but I did want the first release of the line with all that glorious armor.
It ain't happening though, never seen one on mandarke yet
Will Bandai take a stab at the original Macross mecha with their DX Chogokin line? The hi-metal R's look cool, but I don't like the scale.
>>5399403
What's wrong with them?
>>5399670
Nothing, but if you're used to Arcadia and DX they feel like shit in comparison.
http://ekizo.mandarake.co.jp/shop/en/item_s-1887452.html
What is this and why is it almost $1000 bucks?
>>5399657
Thanks. Do you happen to know the Japanese characters for Arcadia releases?
>>5399678
I think Arcadia is just Arcadia. Only a few VF 0's up at the moment last time I checked though.
>>5399675
They're great for 1/100 scaled transformable toys though.
>>5399676
A rare limited production 1/55 VF-1 from the 80s.
Finally a Macross thread, I've been considering picking up a Yamato/Arcadia Valk for a while now, how is the VF-19? Looking at one on Mandarake right now for 19,000 (~Β£110 for me in the UK) Is that a good price?
>>5399751
which version are you looking at? 19k is a good price depend on which version you're looking at.
>>5399793
The Kai version, there's also a sound booster for 6,000 to go with it.
>>5400001
Been looking for this for ages!
Just bought it, thanks anon!
Hopefully no one sent payment before me
>>5400066
>Just bought it, thanks anon!
E-Enjoy it anon, not like I was planning on ordering it when I got home or anything.
>>5399661
What are the chances that we get a VF-1A cannon fodder from this line?
>>5400001
>>5400213
Is it possible to survive getting cucked this hard?
VF/YF 19 is by far the best Valk design. Anyone willing to contest this sentiment?
>>5400422
Yes, the VF-1S is a better design and is more iconic.
Now go eat a bag of dicks.
>>5402744
What's a BIG DOG to a non-believer?
Any chance Arcadia or Bandai takes a stab at a VF-17 again? I would've gotten the DX VF-171 but I read that thing is a nightmare for cracked joints.
>>5402817
The VF-171 does reappear in Macross Delta so MAYBE they'd make a new toy based on it.
>>5399356
Ugh, I have a Bandai VF-19A, but that Arcadia is just so...voluptuous, in a way the Bandai isn't. April is sort of jam packed with orders, though. So I'm waffling
I really love Macross designs, but it's hard to balance them out with my shitton of other interests. They're fantastic, though. How is the Arcadia VF-0S? I've been thinking about getting a VF-0, but the breakage issues make me worry.
>>5403570
I legs popping off can be fixed, but it requires cutting some pegs and either buying new ball caps or carefully sanding the existing ones.
http://youtu.be/MtIU1g7wIHY
>>5402817
I'd love the VF-17 to join the new Hi-Metal line so I could display it with my Fire Valk. Best looking version of the VF-19 IMO.
>>5403570
>How is the Arcadia VF-0S?
its fucking fantastic. Tight joints, great transformation, areas that scratch easily are unpainted but nice looking plastic. The off white looks great and might be the best color they have used. The whole thing feels super solid and really well balanced and they fixed the hips. IMO Arcadia knocked it out of the park on this one. Grab it before it disappears and i mean it.
I love my YF-19 but its an altogether different beast from the bandai toy its worth owning is what i would say for the ridiculous accessories alone.
Hey guys, do any of you have experience with the revoltech of this guy? If so, how is it? I finished up SDF about a week ago and was pretty attached to it by the end of the series.
>>5403613
pretty.
There has been no issues with the Arcadia Vf-0s legs poping off .... It's only on some of the vf-0a and Vf-0d
>>5403770
They fixed that issue? That's good to hear.
Looks like the VF-31's going to have another gunpod where the missile pod is on the VF-30.
>>5403679
The Revoltech was pretty shitty. It couldn't stand, and the stand it came with was rubbish too.
Wait for the Hi-Metal one.
>>5403613
I'm quite relieved to hear this so far, because I considered springing for a 2nd for the future release of the Reactive Armor.
>>5404480
Honestly, no true fan gives a shit about that bastardization
What is a good display stand for larger Macross figures ?
Should I ?
>>5404765
>Hating fun
>>5404953
>Liking lowest common denominator cash grabs
>>5405161
>implying γ’γ€γγ«s were never a part of Macross
Maybe if one person bumps this thread every time it reaches the bottom we could make it last till the VF-4G re-release.
>>5405161
Go back to robotechx.com
When is Bandai gonna do 1/60th DX versions of the original planes?
>>5412330
They don't have the license for them for that scale. Buy Yamato/Arcadia VF-1s if you want them in 1/60 scale.
>>5399205
Man, seeing that Low-vis bums me out so much.
I own one, but it got ruined when I moved out of my parents house and it got fucked with by my younger brother and his friends.
>>5412661
Kids around pricy figures like this makes me cringe. There's one guy on Macrossworld ho buys these for his 7 year old and it just makes me cringe thinking what hell they'll go through in the next few years.
>>5412669
The worst part is that it's not even kids - he was 18 or so at the time, it's just that he and his friends were a bunch of weeb stoners that would get high as fuck and start messing around with stuff.
I had a ton of stuff trashed that way, all of my airsoft guns and Gundam models too. I moved up to my new city, came back a month later to pack up the rest of my stuff, and found pretty much all of my cool toys in my brother's room disassembled, broken, and/or missing parts.
>>5412770
>anime or weed
Not even once
>>5413047
>>5399606
Well at least the VF looks cool.
>>5413187
yo wtf is that in the upper right corner?
>>5413353
Chogokin no Katamari VF-1S Valkyrie
>>5404869
It's a late reply, but I'd honestly wait for the Delta DXs. The VF-31 is based on the same design and might have a more secure transformation.
>>5399356
Oh damn, thanks for the heads up. I've been kicking myself for over a year about missing their first release. I have the 06 Yamato release, but the Arcadia is so much more attractive.
Really digging the VF-0 molds too. I wish they would reissue some of the VF-1s. I have a few 1/48s, but would love to have at least Hikaru in 1/60.
I pulled the trigger and preordered my first 1/60 valk, the Arcadia VF-4G. I vaguely remember the flight stands the come with are crap. So what stands do anon's recommend to hold up these expensive birds?
>>5420525
The flight stands are not crap, dumbass
Some photos I've taken recently
1/2
>>5420999
2/2
>>5421001
people actually paid the asking price for that atrocious paint job?
>>5421023
No, like everyone waited until it went down to $70, at which point it made for a nice entry to Macross toys.
>>5421026
oh thank god
when i first saw the promos for its upcoming release i did a 360 and walked away
>>5399252
Thanks for taking the time kind anon.
>>5421026
This. Same reason my 25F has 25A Super Parts. I don't always care about colours when the difference is hundreds of dollars on the same mold. I like cool toys, but I've got fucking kids to feed too.
>>5421704
>2016
>Having kids
tep feking kek m8y
>>5421040
>i did a 360 and walked away
So you walked back to it?
>>5422007
He clearly walked away
Why this was never made?
>>5425946
A better one I think, is how did this?
>>5425946
>>5399321
Thanks a ton bro. One less grail to get now.
Just bought a used YF-30. Hope it'll be alright.
>>5399205
Help me guys. What is THE very best, most durable, perfect transformation Valk in the 1:100 scale? I've always been interested in owning one but outside of maybe the Hi Metal R line they all seem like fragile partsforming pieces of shit.
>>5427966
>1/100
Do you prefer VF-1 or VF-19
the only macross toys worth having are the bandai hi metal rs, the last yamato revisions, and the arcadia valks
>>5427975
I tend to prefer VF-1 but recommend both
>>5428005
Nah, as someone who collects all things macross. The frontier stuff is also great. It's all very pricey but the quality on both bandai and Arcadias toys are worth the price. I would suggest starting with hi metal though as it's the most accesable
>>5428005
The Bandai DX Chogokin are worth having too, the most recent is the VF-19 advance. Pretty much anything with the word "RENEWAL" and after releases are good except for the Nightmare VF-171 with the cracking triangle defect.
>>5427966
at 1:100 scale your only choice is the Hi-metal R line.
But if you are will to go up to 1/60 then the Arcadia or the older yamato v2 is where it's at.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYsHA0-QHMw
Or you can always go even bigger for cheaper.
the Yamato 1/48 VF-1 are still pretty good and you can get them for a cheaper price than the 1/60.
