I was wondering, it's really hard to notice a shinki mouth in photos.
Have any anons tried lining shinki mouths with a gundam marker or mechanical pencil? How would that look? Is it easily reversible if I fuck it up?

Lip-lining can be tricky. I fashion my own ink applicator by using a razor blade to cut a Q-tip's stick diagonally, then paint the narrow edge with a marker. I then apply it to their lips like lipstick, so I can have control over exactly what gets marked. Works pretty well.

I use Vis-a-Vis wet-erase markers, makes it very easy to clean up after. Alcohol can remove the coating that makes MMS3rd faces matte, so harsher inks probably aren't a good idea.
Also, if you want to use weirder colors like orange, brown or yellow (to make it just look like a lip shadow, rather than lipstick) make sure you do it in natural light. Rules for makeup apply - incandescent lighting can make something look good indoors when it'll look horrific outside.
You can also dilute the ink on the q-tip with a drop of water to make the ink a softer color, but that'll ruin the hard edge of the cut you made after a single application, so you'll need to make another one if you make a mistake.
What do you all recommend for my first Shinki? I want a really cute character with a nice amount of armor.

Oh Raptias. She was my first serious Shinki purchase and I don't regret getting her. I love her armor design and the fact you can adjust the visor on her helmet. Plus if you find someone will to sell you a spare set of her armor you can make even cooler combinations with her.

Plasticizers are generally sticky clearish liquids that usually appear as surface grime on figures, and small droplets can form in really bad cases. But unless you have a bunch of super cheap carnival toys like this thing http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/zu5m4/what_material_is_this_toy_frog_made_out_of_its/ then they won't exude enough of it to pool anywhere. "Cabinet" makes me think it's something with glass and wood, and blue liquid makes me think Windex. The obvious guess is maybe you cleaned the glass and didn't dry it completely. Post pics.

Valona is has minimal armor and really good balance without a stand thanks to her shoes. Shinkis are notorious because people tend to just forget about their armors and only play with the MMS, but with Valona, you likely won't run into that issue cause her armor is really streamlined even though it's pretty small in number. Werkstra is also pretty similar in that regard. Both of that wave also kind of work as expansion sets to their main-line counterparts, Arnval and Strarf.
With Ach, you get a good load of armor as well as a bunch of weapons and even some jellycans, so there's a lot of play value in that alone. However, using said armor as... well.. armor is pretty fiddly. She has pointed feet so a stand is a must unless you're godly at balancing things, and the chunks that go around her thighs tend to swing around a lot and get in the way of things.
It really depends on what you're going for.
Any suggestions for my first shinki? I don't want to buy something too expensive yet, but my favorite shinkis are the ones with the "big eyed kid" aesthetic like the ferret, fox, dog, and cat figures. I might buy the "prototype" ferret girl but I'd like some insight.

The prototypes of Pomock and Partio are pretty light on the armor and are on MMS 1 bodies but the do include some exclusive things (Like Pomock's Axe). If possible try to go out for their MMS 3 bodies. Never had Partio but I do have Pomock and she's pretty fun

Prototype versions look ok, but the MMS 1st bodies are taller and less refined than the 3rd smalls. I'm guessing since you want the big eyes you want the bodies to look suitable moe too, so if that's the case it will be worth a little extra for the normal version. I noticed listing for non-prototype Partio and Pamrock just popped up on eBay so you shouldn't have to settle for a prototypes.

Jelly cans are pretty desirable but hard to come by as only a few had them (some local shinkibro made 3d printed oversized ones you can buy)
while technically still weapons, Baby Razz and Sharatang come with Instruments.
and Pomocks got a big piece o Meat.
A few shinkis. Like the VicViper twins and the bug girls have armor that can combine into something separate from themselves (VicVipers and Bugs,, obviously)
but for the wide majority part, we get our non armor accesories separately.
