What's the most pathetic /toy/ related things you did?

When I was a kid I was too poor for action figures so I drawn them on paper and cut out. I used paperclips to make points of articulation
>>
haha so you're saying the whole of >>>/po/ are pathetic losers?
>>
More /tg/ than /toy/, but my parents would never buy me YuGiOh cards, I guess they thought it was a flavor of the month that I would grow out of (they were mostly right) but to compensate for not having the cards, I drew pictures of the monsters on paper so I could pretend I had them.

When I was a kid I bought YuGiOh shit all the time. I had the cards, one of the duel disk toys, and I watched the TV show every Saturday morning.

One day about 6 months into my collection I was at a flea market and I saw some rares that some guy was selling. I tried to convince my parents to pick me up some of them and they got to talking with the seller. He showed them the cards and pointed out the stars on each one (pic related). He actually managed to convince my parents that they were pentagrams and the game was a metaphor for summoning demons, and that the whole thing was demonic. After that I wasn't allowed to watch the TV show, all my cards were taken away (which pissed me off cause I had one of Exodia's limbs and one of the God Cards) and thrown out, and my duel disk was given away at a yard sale.

A few months after that I got into Pokemon, but even though it was petty and ultimately had no effect on my life, there's still a hint of disdain left in me for my parent's actions.
>>
>>5310824
Damn, that's awful, sorry Anon. Why the fuck would someone do that? I mean, he's clearly trying to sell them, why would he try to turn parents away from buying them?
>>
>>5310824
>Protestants
Sorry for that, anon.
>>
At one point we were very poor. We couldn't afford anything other than the barest necessities, and even then we had to go to agencies for food and financial help.
One day at the food bank we got some toiletry supplies, and one item was a Spider-Man shampoo, where the bottle was a molded Spider-Man figurine.
I used to play with it and pretend it was a figure.
Things got much better of course, but I still have that old beat up bottle as a reminder of all the fun I had with it.
>>
>>5310824
So...The guy basically talked himself out of a sale?
What a fucking moron.

"I'll sell ya these, but first, did you know they were Satanic? Wait. Where are you going? Come back. Stupid people don't want to pay my asking price."
>>
>>5310824
Wait, wtf!? Lol!
>>
>>5310787
I was not poor but I liked to make paper ''action figures'', mostly because I could make them loose limbs in fights and get new ''robotic''ones.

>>5310811
I also drew some Yu-Gi-Oh cards when I was a kid. The cartoon started airing a couple of months before the first decks showed up in my country. Used to play it with my friends at lunch break and all. Also, the rich kid of my class gave me 10 bucks to make him a deck.
>>
>>5310787

We were too poor to buy ghostbusters toys. And we wanted haunted humans.
What I and my siblings did was to draw characters on cardboard and cut them up. By folding the head and arms, we could turn the human characters into monsters. Not really pathetic since it did help develop creativity. We learned to create our own toys from scratch.
>>
>>5310834
>>5310858
Asshole must not have wanted to sell his precious collector cards to a kid.

>>

When me and my neighbor were in elementary school we would "customize" our figures with Sharpies ("black repaints", random touch ups, red-eyed "evil" versions of some characters). Needless to say, they looked awful.

Reminds me when I was a kid I had a full Exodia in my set and I went to a tournament at a little shitty mall. I beat some kid and he got mad and latter stole my deck when I wasn't looking (I know it was him as he didn't even bother to take it out of the deck-box with the stickers I had on it).

I actually tried to confront him about it and he got his dad (who was big, mean looking, muscular and covered in tattoos) to threaten me not to go near his son and called me a "little retarded shit". Just imagine a fully grown adult fucking threatening a little kid over fucking card game.

ANYWAY I tried to tell the tournament organizers but they just told me that I didn't have proof that that was my deck (despite some friends actually backing me up on this).
Looking back I think that they must of been intimidated by the guy too.
As if I remember correctly the little prick got caught red handed pulling the same shit and got banned. I heard that the guy actually got banned from the mall after threatening the store owners that where hosting the thing.

In the end it was kinda a good thing. I ended up dropping the game, selling most my shit and getting out early before the whole thing stopped being a fad.
>>
>>5310881
If he didn't want to sell them, the dumbass shouldn't have brought them to a flea market and put them on a table in the first place.
>>5311164
It's kind of funny because I'm pretty sure that actually happened in the show, except the cards got thrown off a ship.
>>
>>5310811
When me and my brother and cousin were getting really into Pokemon our moms saw how badly we wanted the rare cards so they decided to make some prints of the rare ones and attach them to the front of other cards so we could use them as placeholders. I remember specifically that the fake Zapdos was in my binder and I had to constantly tell kids it was fake because they were always trying to trade for it. I never understood how they could even think it was real since it wasn't even holographic.
>>
My brother and I had a friend who was a bad influence. We would all get our Joes together and dig underground army bases and tunnels into the soil, populate them with GI Joes, and stuff that motherfucker to the brim with fireworks (the kid ALWAYS had tons of fireworks laying around for some reason). Many a Joe died a horrible explosive death.
>>

When I was 13 years old, I had a small collection of Battle Beasts. I ended up displaying them in a toy castle for a while in my room.

But here's the kicker, this display was right by my windowsill. After a few months when I decided to pick up a few of the figures to mess with, I noticed that several of them had what looked like someone lightly hacked at a few of them with an exacto knife. I was not a happy camper when I discovered this. Needless to say, though, it did teach me to -never- leave figures in the sunlight, and how destructive the uv rays can be to figures.

I know this pain all too well. Thankfully they've mellowed out a little nowadays but my parents were massive Protestantards when I was a child.

>Wasn't allowed to have Power Rangers, Transformers, etc - anything from Japan, basically they regarded as cheap heathen junk
>Wasn't allowed to look at Chaos Space Marines in Games Workshop stores
>Wasn't allowed to read HP Lovecraft
>Anything with any mention of 'magic' in any context was banned
>Wasn't allowed to see The Mask, the cartoon series thereof or have any of the toys because it had Loki in it
>Wasn't allowed to have Attack Pack because they thought the cars looked like demons

List goes on. Pretty much the only toys they were happy to buy me was Lego, Action Man and old wooden toys that would have been boring in the Victorian era.
>>
>>5312365
Oh, and also:

>Hated me watching the X-Men cartoon because mutants were 'against god'
>Tried to stop me from watching Power Rangers on television because the villain was a witch
>Wasn't allowed to play any of the Final Fantasy games, etc because they had 'magic and demon summoning' in them
>Wasn't allowed to listen to rock or metal music

The list goes on.

Now, as a horribly dysfunctional adult I'm an atheist who spends most of my spare earnings every month on Japanese robot toys, Hot Toys, ThreeA figures of Jesus, King Diamond albums and video games involving magic and demons.

Let my life serve as a terrible example to other parents who would do this to their children.

>>

I did that too
I drew a bunch of them and made up stories with my sibilings. Don't think it was pathetic, we were having our fun.

Anyway the only thing that comes to mind is
pretending I was buying a Bayblade for my little brother when in reality I was buying it for myself (pretty fucking stupid on my part because I look/ed like a kid anyway, was just starting middle school, but at that point I was "supposed" to grow out of toys).
>>
When I was younger my friends and I didn't know how to play the Pokemon card game, so instead we would throw the cards on the table and then whoever we were versing would throw their card on top of the first, and so on, thus making a pile, all while making explosion sound effects. It often led to us arguing who's card was who's when it was time to clean up, but we eventually started putting our initials on them.

I would actually do that a lot, too. It was once a "oh, that kid's sad" kind of thing until I upgraded it from "sad action figures" to "cool papercraft" and by middleschool the stuff I could do with paper would impress my classmates. I remember once finding a pattern to make chaos emeralds and someone paid me 5 bucks to make all 7 and draw a sonic character for him. It was kind of nice being validated.

I was also too poor for actual toys a lot of the time, unless they came from Goodwill or a yard sale. Highlights include:

>drawing faces on spoons and making clothes for them out of napkins
>crappy OC DONUT STEEL!!11! plushes made out of fabric scraps once I turned 10 and learned what anime was
>paper "action figures"
>little jointed dolls I made out of clay, I tried to give them all different gimmicks, like one was made from glow-in-the-dark clay and I gave another a hollow head so it would stand up underwater
>any of my toys that were broken, somehow it became part of my "story" for that toy, like a Barbie with a head that liked to fall off became a zombie that had been killed by her obsessive ex-husband, etc. (I was a strange child.)
>Anything and everything was anthropomorphized, like rocks or seashells or leaves, whatever...I'd play with them and act out these intricate little dramas

One time as I was taking it out of the styro case, the fucking trailer peg broke. I returned it and acted like nothing happened. I used to play with my sister with Digimon adventures figures made out of papper, then we made monsters out of clay. Now adays, I think I appreciate figures a lot, I go to flea markets and buy brocken figures or incomplete, I customize them and give them a home, I mostly do that with transformers.

When the Pokemon vs Digimon debates happened in school I chose teh side of Digimon and destroyed literally all of my Pokemon toys. I have so much regret. Those guys are hard to find now (or maybe I didn't look much) and the new toys don't have that shading that emulates the old Ken Sugimori watercolours which was the best part about the official art.

My eraser was a block. A character. I had 20 erasers in a huge pencil case. Pencil case was a space ship. I always upgraded. And kept it tidy.

Fun thing is that a few others slowly joined shortly after and we came up with this elaborate table top game with the erasers during study hall.

I traced action figures from ads, cut them and glued them to popsicle sticks

I remember trying to make toys of all the bosses from Ocarina of Time. Had a general spider and lizard of Gohma and Dodongo, but when it came time for Bongo Bongo I used Batman's cape for his body, shoved a squishy eye from a quarter machine in the neck hole, and I had the hands from some toy that had broken. It sat on my shelf for a few days before I disassembled it in shame.
