For those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Gunpla/Plamo Secret Santa!
Sign ups run until December 4th. I'll try to have everyone paired up by December 6th.
Like last year, I'm going to have everyone fill out a Google form so I can collect the information easily.
Also, if you have some kits in your backlog that you are willing to part with feel free to email me a list and estimated values.
***Disclaimer***
If you want to enter with stuff in your backlog, that's fine, but please be aware I may not be able to pair you with someone who wants something you have to give away. If you cannot afford to purchase a new kit in case of that, please just hold off this year.

I don't think I posted this here. It's a wip.
How do you guys agitate paints that has been sitting for a while?
My tamiya gunmetal has seperated into 3 individual layers and the metal layer is especially stubborn to shaking.
>>5306644
You can toss a metal BB into the cups or bottles as an agitator. Or buy an airbrush paint mixer which is basically a mini hand held blender. It mixes paint very well.
So HG seems like the internet's general consensus for the best kitbashing grade, what's everyones' favorite kits or parts trees from ebay to play with? Why do you like it/them?
>>5306644
Put a stick in it and stir. Are you gunpla builders really this retarded?

>>5306675
Buy a box of flat toothpicks and use them as stirrers. It's as simple as that.
>>5306710
Don't use wood. It's porous and will absorb solvents.
I just got myself a MG Rick Dom for 12$ for a black friday day special at my hobby shop. This kit looks pretty old, anyone know when these were made? Thinking of keeping this one and not building it; and maybe buying another one to build. Probably retarded to do so, but I like to keep the "vintage" stuff and not build it. Is this kit kinda "rare" haven't been really able to find it at any hobby shops
>>5306753
>This kit looks pretty old, anyone know when these were made?
1999
>Is this kit kinda "rare" haven't been really able to find it at any hobby shops
They get re-issued now and again. Just not a lot of shops pick them up.
>>5306753
The year of release is on the box.
It gets reprinted.
Pretty nice for it's age.
>decide to buy myself some zakus because i realized i no longer own any monoeye suits

i don't know why i laughed that hard
>>5306753
Speaking of Doms, anyone know if the hy2m Doms are any good? I see one on sale for 189$ anyone know if that's a decent deal?
>>5306794
>i don't know why i laughed that hard
Could it be your raging autism?
>>5306868
probably
Well, somebody I know suggested "why not just get a second hand airbrush", so I come to ask about an obvious concern:
Is it practical to buy a second hand airbrush? Would you end up having to buy replacement parts for it anyway? It seems like it'd be less of a hassle to just buy a brand new one.
A one super solution.
>>5306937
>>5306912
Never gone that route, but when I was reading up before I bought mine, an article (can't remember sauce) pointed out that you sort of have to know what you're looking at to make an informed buying decision, and noobs can't really do that yet. At the very least, try to test drive the brush first.
>>5306814
for the amount of plastic you get it's a great deal since it's a 1/60 size thing.
It's not really a model, but a mostly pre-built 1/60 rick dom with wiring you need to thread through most of the kit.
if you want a 1/60 rick dom it's your only real choice besides the super old original 1/60 kit.
>>5307000
its not pre-built, its somewhere between a MG and PG with a ridiculously complex wiring system.
just finished this, pretty fun to build
>>5307068
How are the volks kits in general?
They look sexy as hell but I barely see any review for them and they are pretty expensive.
>>5307090
Forgot pic
>>5307092
i dont have them but i would like to. saw some videos of a build of the i.m.s led mirage v3 few months ago, the parts were detailed inner frame and all but all parts must be cemented/glued in place so there is no way for you to place the armor parts and take it out. unless you mod it in some way ie pins and holes. also tons of pieces big and small really small.
>tfw knocked yonems zaku sniper off my desk
>and the antenna snapped off
fug
>>5307092
ims in general is a bitch to make so I'm guess the resin kits will be ten times harder. Or plastic and resin kits are totally different and I'm talking out of my ass.
Here is a blog of someone making IMS Siren Neptune
http://pla-zone.proboards.com/thread/792/star-stories-siren-neptune-ims
>Upon opening the box I realized how much work this would be... Volks is supposed to be one of the bets when it comes to resin kits but I don't think they have a lot of experience with plastic. Either that or I've been really spoiled by Bandai. There are issues with this kit that will make this a very difficult build, as far as prep is concerned. In fact, building this kit will be mostly sanding, filling and flash removal.
>Here's another example of nastiness... The gates are attached to the piece in the worst possible place, in 4 places both sides of the piece. Exactly in the middle of the curved, chamfered edge. I'm beginning to think it was planned and moulded this way on purpose.
I'm not against FFS I love the story and the mech designs but I think people who are new to volk kits need to understand what they are getting into before spending 70-100 dollars on a kit.
>>5307068
That is delightful.
>>5306753
It just got a reprint.
How can I fix this?
>>5307489
Is that from RG zeta or something?
You could try gluing it. If you want something stronger you could drill aligning holes in both broken faces and run a small metal pin through them.
>>5307501
Yeah that's what it's from. I just used some glue right after posting. If that doesn't work I'll run a pin
>>5307503
If it's the RG, beware that some parts of the frame uses PP plastic. Usual modeling cement for styrene does not work.
Started cleanup on the torso butchery for my haunted grimoire. Adding the damage and cleaning it up.
The head unit is going to be next.

>Swapping the head fixes a lot of issues
Only its out of the box appearance. It still has the rubber apron and shitty ankles.
>>5308078

>>5308087

>>5308107

>>5308115
thx bby
Im kinda surprised how fast hlj is at shipping lately. Normally when i get the payment confirmation, they would send it out either the next day or day after for international shipping. My latest order was sent out within an hour of paying it, so im hoping my stuff gets here by monday or tuesday, need my plastic crack fix
How do you stop the yearning for more and more kits to build? I've only built one for fuck's sake, this shouldn't be happening so soon.
>>5308175
You can't.
Welcome to the hobby.
>>5308175
You don't stop it, it just gets worse. Even once you have no time to build you still keep getting stuff until you are drowning in plastic.
>>5308175
There's no getting off Mr. Kawaguchi's Wild Ride.
>>5308185
This, It doesn't matter how new you are to this, I've been stuck on my first involved build for months now but I keep buying shit. I'm too busy to work on it and now the cold makes it harder to top coat. At some point I told myself I wouldn't buy anything until I got through my then small backlog, that didn't last long.
Done cleaning.

The GM one is a 1/100 MG head.
>>5308251
Fumina is fuckhuge, I doubt anything smaller than regular 1/100 heads would fit
>>5308259
All those heads in the pic are actually just held on with sticky tack.
>>5308270
Oh, I can actually see it under the GM head
Either way, my point was also about how it would fit in terms of looks, anything smaller would look disproportionate, the GM head kinda does already.
>>5307068
I recently bought a HG Z'gok, but now I am tempted to get an RG Z'Gok, because it looks like it is a solid RG.
And also more articulation.
>>5306644
I use the ends of my paintbrushes.
>>5308281
you just missed the hlj sale! rg zgoks for 12 bux
>>5308062
I just finished my first kit, the standard HG Graze after having collected a number of robot spirits figures it really is terrific, the articulation is great and the adjustable booster, and pop-up head are excellently implemented. the frame is nice too, which I guess is new for HGs? It did have some extra pieces in the PC sprue that I can't figure out the purpose of
I'm honestly considering getting the second graze kit the hobby store had, along with the mobile suit that Iron-blooded's not!char uses.
>>5308329
I know, gif related is how I feel atm
>>5308354
Inner frames have so far been almost exclusively an MG and RG thing, with IBO the gimmick is interchangeable pieces and an inner frame so its the first time we've seen then at this level on HGs and probably the only times it'll happen. However recent HG designs in general have been getting closer to inner frames so we might see them again if designs call for them, its at least standard to have some sort of pseudo inner frame nowadays.
> It did have some extra pieces in the PC sprue that I can't figure out the purpose of
>PC sprue
huehue welcome to the club, start your collection of spare polycaps. Its cheaper to include a whole universal PC sprue than to make a mold for each and every kit when most can take from said universal sprue. You'll see on the manual that the contents section will X out unused spare parts.
>>5308354
At the start of the instructions there is a diagram of the runners with parts not used X'd out for future reference

>>5308384
I'll have to keep a close eye out for more IBO stuff, these frames are great
>>5308397
Nice detailing, although the yellow on the shoulders, front skirts, and ankle still need touchup. Primer is your friend, the plastic purple still bleed through the yellow.
>>5308469
nice to know there are many rooms for improvement. I'll remember to give those spots a touch next time.
>>5308598
weapon done!
Gonna be painting the Bandai boba fett model. The suit will be dark dark grey and the armor jet black. So I need to paint the polycap joints. My idea is to:
-Lightly sand the visible joints with high grit paper
-Do a thin layer with black primer
-Do a thin layer of the almost black grey
Which is a better MG Rx-78: the 3.0 or the animation colors?
>>5308661
3.0 has better engineering and gimmicks, OYW is a more solid construction and has better proportions IMO.
Pretty nice. But the x8 dragoons is mind-numbing. (still need to top coat them)
Also building the AGE-2, hand painted mr color for the green shapes, only works for something this small.
>>5308809
Sticker looks terrible on dark plastic. More news at 11.
>>5308354
Yea, after building notguts' ms I'm tempted to buy 2-3 more of those graze kits. They're selling them for 9 bucks in Malaysia
Has anyone ever bought supplies from Aliexpress? I'm thinking to get some magnets, nippers and maybe a pin vice from it.
>>5308932
expect low quality chinese products
>>5308809
Yeah, just take off the stickers on the dark plastic, at least on the chest. Otherwise, it looks cool. Anyone have pics of the freedom in a more "traditional" Gundam Paint scheme?
So is the whole "paint + primer" thing with Krylon paints legit? Would Testors/Tamiya topcoat work with them?
>>5308945
It might look thick and chalky when you're done painting. It's an off the shelf can meant for bigger projects than a scale plamo, and it's a hybrid primer and paint. Buy one and try it on some spoons if you don't get any other answers.
>>5308949
Okay, I'll definitely try it out. Michaels is 10 minutes away with big cans of those for $7 each, and Hobbytown is 100ml cans for almost $8.
Found a nice local hobby store on friday and picked up the RX-79 [G] ground war set, 1/144 scale.
Was a bit pricy, but hey, after 13 years of being away from Gunpla it's nice to get back into the hobby.
Figured I'd share a pic. Still some work to do on it, but I'm happy with how it came out so far.
So I might be upgrading to an airbrush soon, which leaves me with the question of what to do with all my Vallejo acrylic paints. What's the ideal ratio of thinner to paint? I'd search for a guide now but it's like 3:30am so I'll ask now and look later.
>>5309007
For Vallejo I use something just under milky consistency. It can also depend on the color. Yellow didn't take much thinning, but grey did for me.
>>5309008
Good old "consistency of milk", then, thanks.
How much thinning does Vallejo Air need? Can't be much since it's pre-thinned but I'd imagine you'd need at least a drop or two.
>>5309010
Haven't tested mine yet since I only have red and white.
>>5309010
I've actually used Vallejo air on my airbrush without any thinning at all since I thought that was the point of them being pre thinned, and my kits turned out fine.
The backlog grows stronger
>>5309091
At first I thought that said Dragon Dong
Just finished my HG Delta Plus yesterday, turned out pretty nice. I haven't built a transformable MS before since I'm not really interested in the wave riders at all, but I was pleasantly surprised. Articulation is still at least okay. I didn't care for how fiddly the shield is and how the aerospikes on the back of the legs don't really stick securely in place in MS mode, they're just restricted by the parts around them. That just autism on my part, though.
Today has been primarily working on the HG Gundam Barbatos. Really neat so far, about halfway done and articulation seems really good. The thing's really damn detailed for how few parts it actually uses, and the inner frame is quite neat. I am having some small issues cutting the parts away from the sprue too closely, not sure if the plastic is a little tougher/slipperier or my cutters are just getting dull.
I'll post pics when both are finished.
Honestly don't know if this is that great of a deal, but it's better than the $45+ usually eye it at.

Good idea thanks, I will ask them why the posters in this thread have such sandy vaginas.
>>5308384
It boggles me. How do you prime and paint the joints on that arm ? It's so thoroughly sealed and unremovable, and especially when you have to seam weld the forearm?
>>5309376
It's shitposter, so let it go anon. It's up to anons anyways if they're interested in the deal I posted.
The last lead suit I needed to get my collection up-to-date. Feels good, man.
>>5309380
Okay anon.
>>5309383
Do the proportions look a bit odd to you? The pauldrons look out of place and the legs seem a bit too spindly with the torso looking too stretched. Maybe I should get my eyes checked.
>>5309383
A fine choice
>>5309420
I'm agree with you. The legs and arms are too thin. It's especially jarring when it's just standing there without the backpack.

Snapped together my Gogg HGUC, it was interesting but there were a few annoyances (like how the arms connect to the shoulder, had to use more force to get it on then I'm comfortable with). Will do mods, paint, etc when I can.

Also Barbie Toes starts out with the sorta shield plate on its arm, then after it uses the schwalbe graze claw and the show hasn't technically shown it in its final form where it just has both arms match and the iconic shoulders. Probably next episode since the mafia fixed up the barbatos with no budget limits
>>5309740
Oh cool, thanks for the information. I was hoping I didn't completely miss that happening, or that it happened without being even a minor plot point.

Hello /toy/, don't know shit about airbrushes, but which would you reccomend between the two airbrushes I'm deciding on: iwata hp cs or the iwata hp c plus. Obviously going to be painting gunpla. Which would be better for overall use, and which one can take hobby paints better?
You eye-ballin' me?
How long should I wait to apply another coat of Future on a loose joint. I put a thick-ass coat of Future 25 hours ago on this really loose hinge joint (moved side-to-side, flopped around under its own weight) and it still feels sort of tacky. Last time I tried applying around this stage, the Future dissolved and I was back where I started. The joint isn't as floppy as before, but it still droops.

She is worried she is going to lose the light pink color or something even though it's far from done. only the pink parts are painted.

Shes hell bent on keeping it this light pink even though the brush strokes can be seen and it's far from done. I've instructed her and tried to show her videos, because she wants to paint and so far it went well. But she doesn't want to repeat the same steps.

I have no idea how am i going to work on the french street nor when am i able to finish it.
>>5310641
go to the scale model thread for advice,
i havent finished my plane, it's hard when you have been spoiled by bandai's kits
>>5310645
>spoiled by bandai's kits
If you want to get gud at this shit, Bandai should not be your first few kits. Just saying.
>>5310657
I'm not even going to ask why you have condoms with your plamo in that thumbnail

I'm trying. A hobby is worth so long as it's enjoyable
>>5306753
A friend gifted me the Char's custom version last year, and I was pleasantly surprised by the kit overall. Sure, it may not be as complex as modern MGs, but it was a solid build.
>>5310657
>Friend has a father that has been working on military models for the past 20 years
>Claims he has been doing the same for ~8
>Shows me his best model which is some 1/144 tiny ass winter camo soviet tank
>Awful drippy paint that looks like a snowman came all over it
Worst part is that he got into gunpla too and has the mindset that he's really good at it and refuses advice despite having a million nubs and stress marks all over the place. That and he absolutely refuses to paint them since that would be a "waste of time." Otherwise he's a nice guy except for models for some reason.
>>5310664
i'm really tempted to buy 2 graze and graze schwalbe now

>Friend has a father that has been working on military models for the past 20 years
Working on something is not the same as being good at it. Did you see his dad's models?
>>5310683
Yeah he had a bunch of decently painted models, mainly SW stuff and a few military models sprinkled in but I suspect that most of them were probably meh and in storage or something.

Oh fug. We don't have much star wars stuff here, with the exception of bandai's new line, which looks absolutely amazing.

Post your collection again yo, I need some inspiration on how to display my kits. I was thinking of using a glass case from Ikea for the small scale stuff but I don't know about large scale stuff
>>5310762
I have that same monitor somewhere, something like 10 years old.
Lead suits questions. Of the three SD series, what are the best kits to represent their lead suits?
I'm thinking about picking up the MG Z'Gok, it looks good on dalong, but I would like to hear from someone who owns one.
Something semi-important, can it do one handed hand stands like the smaller grades?
>>5310906
Musha, Knight and Command. Isn't it quite straightforward...?
>>5310852
glass shelves or cases are always a good choice, but smaller kits will always need risers for big displays.
>>5310903
its about that old and doesnt even work as a second monitor for my current laptop, i just havnt gotten around to finding it a new home.
>>5310915
I thought the lead of Sangokuden was Ryuubi. And I'm asking what kits best represent them.
>>5310150
There just isn't enough Milf kits.
>>5310919
What do you mean by "series"? The three SD Gundam spinoffs that originated in the late 80s are Sengokuden, Knight Gundam and G-force.
If you mean "model kit series", sangokuden is part of the BB Senshi line.
>>5310927
Mobile Suit SD Gundam, Superior Defender Gundam Force, and SD Gundam Sangokuden Brave Battle Warriors. Probably should have said animated series. My bad desu.
I'm asking what the lead suits of those are and what kits represent them the best. I can't find much information on anything related to Captain Gundam, Ryubi has about five trillion different iterations, and I'm still not sure what the lead suit is in the 80s series.
>>5310852
I got some of those big Ikea wood cabinets meant for DVDs and the like, glass doors, mirror insets that come with glass shelves, and the push-to-toggle lights you find in the last section before the warehouse. You can get wood doors and skip the insets for the bottom row if you get a three-high, then use the bottom drawers for storing spare parts and painting supplies, while the one-high is just the right height to stick a TV and consoles on.
>>5310938
The 80s animated SD Gundam was a bunch of gag shorts
In the late 80s, they made 3 spin-offs,
>Sengokuden = Japanese warring states
>Knight Gundam (Medieval theme)
>G-force (Futuristic theme)
These spin-offs had manga, anime, toys and model kits based on them. They were widely popular for a while but died down by the late 90s.
Superior Defender Gundam Force was an attempt to revitalize the SD Gundam spinoffs and heavily referenced the 3 themes above. Captain Gundam is extracted directly from G-force.
Eventually they hit gold in the late 2000s with Sangokuden which was immensely popular for a period just like the 3 old themes.
To answer your question, just go for the BB Legend line. It's "legend" for a reason.
So this isn't quite gunpla, but it's close: what do people think of the Assault Kingdom line? They seem like they'd be pretty great for office desk figures.
Should I buy the RG Astray or the RG OO Raiser, pls I need help ;_;
>>5310982
00 is pretty fantastic to build, haven't started Red Frame yet but I know you can't go wrong with 00.
>>5310916
>glass
That would be a good option, but I don't have fancy lighting to make it look as nice.
>>5310943
I was planning on doing something similar. I already have a bookcase next to my detolf with some kits and other non-gunpla stuff, as well as some storage stuff.
I do have this short black TV stand with some drawers and empty shelves, but I'm looking to get rid of the TV. Maybe I can put small twin cabinets with glass doors on top of it or something.
>>5310916
Yo, what are those three MS right there, and which kits specifically are they? I like the look of em, especially the blue one.
Also, what kinda stands are those? I dig the pink color.
>>5310916
Post ships too.
>>5310985
Thank you
>>5310982
Astrays are simple. But fun to paint. And have good poseability
>>5311100
Astrays are fucking ugly.
>>5311105
who are you quoting?
>>5311017
The old 1/144 gun-ez, gunblastor, and javelin from the victory gundam line back in the early 90s. They come with those stands and require a lot of painting to look as good as that.
>>5308878
They're cheap, easy to build and the design is like a 3 way mix between Zaku Leo and a Jinn while still having it's own personality, plus the articulation is absolutely great
>>5310661
Try opening images before you post about them
Since /m/ thread is dead, I'll repost this here
After seeing beamknight's sweet hyaku shiki/akatsuki pics I've decided to make that my next 1/100 purchase. I'm kind of stuck though, despite the regular shiki color being terrible i really like the proportions over the 2.0 (which is a bit skinny at the waist, no?), so what do you fags think? reg shiki or 2.0? only 10 dollar difference. I would throw akatsuki into this query too but the only 1/100 I've found is $115.
>>5310938
Dude what
Do you not know about SD Gundam Gaiden, AKA the best SD series?
>>5311431
I don't know about any SD series.
>>5311425
The 2.0 has amazing articulation
>>5311425
The Akatsuki beamknight has is the Dragon Momoko one.
>>5311425
>Couldn't be bothered to wait 5 minutes
2.0 Shiki has great articulation over the original, kind of similar to the scale of the 2.0 zaku compared to the 1.0. It's literally a trade off of articulation vs aesthetics; if you're not going to be posing it constantly and don't give a damn about gimmicks (posable fingers/detailing) then just buy the original.
Dalong to the rescue

I prefer the sleeker 2.0 with the subtler gold desu senpai baka

I passed on preorders for Super Fumina but now a site I know has her and I know they have limited stock, she's a bit expensive but not nearly as bad.
I know her face is horrible and so are the stickers but I'm a sucker for this kind of shit, so for those who have her would you recommend her even at a slight markup or are the issues too many?
>>5311602
Can you mod? If yes then get it and go nuts. If not then can you live with an oob face thats mediocre at best?
>>5311605
I don't think I have the skills to do a competent face mod, I've got F.A.G faces which would be easier to mod in but they're are probably one bit too small, can anyone confirm?
I'll probably go for it if the face will be the most of my worries though
fucking resin kits, i will never have musha crossbone
