And just so happens that they used one of the emptied barrels as the place for their little contest.
You almost drop the bits of hollow flesh that you were carrying when you see Neliel chugging straight from a barrel after her victory.
Pesci comes to you already embarrassed.

But as he spoke you could smell the alcohol in his breath.
After sniffing a few times you simply turn around and haunch forward, depressed.

It was quite hard to try and pinpoint the place where Asher might be but somehow you managed.
Your first idea was to open a path to Germany which took a few hours to reach but when you arrived it became apparent that he was not even remotely close to the fatherland.
As you tried to pick up where he might be your instincts began to tug at your nerves and pull you back into the Garganta.
Alex was of course pissed about your mistake.

You open the Garganta once more and point towards it.

After another hour of walking around in the pitch black abyss you arrive at the place where your gut was leading you.

Beyond the city borders many green hills and plains can be seen, which further reinforces your idea that you are in fact in England.
As you follow the trail of reiatsu to the boys location Alex slowly starts to figure out your intentions.

You give her a sly grin.

It doesn't take you too long to reach the place but when you do arrive you are honestly surprised.
The place appears to be a christian orphanage judging by the proximity of the local church and the cross on the front door.

But you weren't expecting this at all.

As you are getting closer to it however you feel something.

While they were busy with that you found a nice little spot to sit down and observe them.
When they worked out their frustration they came back to you, both of them are clearly exhausted.

So when she dashes for you, you simply take a step to the side and she flies past you.
When she sees that it's almost pointless to go after you she makes for Asher.
Watching the two of them enjoying themselves brings a smile to your face while you are still trying your damnedest to distract yourself.
Every time you don't occupy yourself your thoughts drift to your past life.

The reason vasto aren't like humans is because they place existential conflict above survival. Baraggan doesn't have to worry about starving, so he instead lords himself over lesser hollows like a king.
Halibel "adopted" hollows because she couldn't get over the fact she lost her child in life or whatever.
Vasto seek out situations that are meaningless to anyone but themselves and serve no purpose even to themselves other than peace of mind.
That's basically being an old man on your death bed, they can give up on survival which is contrary to their entire existence up until that point.

Pretty sure the idea is that its part of the natural hollow life cycle, its just that kaizar will reach it without any others because once they hit vasto, they dont need to eat, and so they stopped trying to grow. Whereas kaizar will NEVER stop trying to become more powerful, but is to prideful to take the easy way out of arrancarr'ing himself, (assuming we DO go the vasto+ route.) combined with our slime-indueced bullshit growth rate. (we went to adjuchas in like two decades. that aint normal.) also it would be fair to assume that in the quests canon lore, starrk also reached this level, but downgraded after splitting his soul out of loneliness, and doesnt remember what things were like before that.
