GMing a Traveller game right now.
>regional police is after the party for transporting goods without a license
>the party is about to jump into hyperspace
>they have no pilot
>ohfuck.jpg
>the corporate agent (who got recently injured in a gunfight) runs out from the back of the ship where he was resting
>slams his hand on a random button of the ship
>makes a jump check
>fucking succeeds
>the party evades the authorities and jumps out of the system
pretty fun stuff mang

Not mine, but found it pretty entertaining.

Nice. Gotta love those close calls.

The party is now investigating space aids/HIV afterwhich they will be going to an abandoned space station, Aliens style and then after that a prison break out. I love think of new jobs for the party. It's so much fun.

Sounds fun. A lot of forever players are scared by the amount of effort GMing takes, but don't know what they're missing. I'd love to write up some of my groups antics in story form, but never seem to get to it.

My group doesn't really take the game that seriously, but in a good way. Makes for a lot of good jokes and fun. It's not like a super serious story telling event, but that makes for more natural storytelling I find. I'm actually still in the brainstorming phase for a 3.5e campaign I had with one of my older groups.

It can be fun to have a group that doesn't take the game to seriously. But for me it always feels like a balancing act, since I personally don't like games that are to goofy.

How far along are you in the campaign planning?

There will be a variety of jobs, in an escalating amount of how dangerous they are. For example, one of the later jobs will be the crew escorting data from an infamous assassin to a nearby system/person. All these jobs will culminate in a war between the two nations that are currently in a border dispute over the sector that the party is in. They will then have to choose whether they want to join the war on either side or try and escape the sector (if they can). The jobs I have planned are about 8-10 or somewhere around that number. On goffiness though, I just let the players make their own jokes but they usually are serious when it comes to combat. The captain of the ship the party has uses a pretty wacky wit to get out of situations with the authorities/other people so that's always funny to watch.

I'm looking to run a few Traveller sessions while my group's DM is away for a month; what edition should I look into for ease of use?

Awesome. Hope they make it through (or away from) the war in one piece!
