What are your setting's angels, /tg/? Your demons?
>>
>>47059835
Both angels and demons are born from blood of two cosmic beings who fought at the dawn of ages.

Angels are born from golden flame (blood of primordial dragon). The dragon doesn't part with its blood willingly, though - his true form is sealed inside a sacred text, and reciting lines of said text makes tiny bits of its power to manifest, doing obligatory cleric repertoire of healing, protection and, of course, summoning angels.

Demons are born from blood of Titan, fallen in a deep ocean trench, dying for millenia. All demons have subconscious desire to die (and get reintegrated into Titan), and thus most of them exhibit very self-and everything else around them- destructive behavior. A demon can sometimes overcome the self-destructive urge and become free. These folks travel across the dimensions with no clear goal, offering their services and boons on contractual basis (always on contractual basis - free demons are almost obsessively law-abiding).
>>
>What are your setting's angels, /tg/?
There are no proper angels, however most places where people are have benevolent spirits who provide people benefits and protection
>Your demons?
When god created the world, he wanted his children to bear his image and be as powerful as he is so he forged them out of metal. Even though the world itself was a faithful reflection of heaven, metal men imagined their Father's domain so much better and grew resentful. They said "Let us slay our Father and take his heaven for ourselves" and so they went to wage war on Heaven. God was victorious and wiped out all but one metal man. In a new, broken and soiled world now bitter and paranoid god made weak men out of flesh. The last Metal Man is hiding among flesh men, plotting destruction of the world in his final act of defiance.

Spirits are just clumps of pure consciousness floating about in a cosmic limbo where all 'insubstantial' matter resides. Since this limbo is a direct reflection of the material universe it is shaped by the consciousness of all living things. These spirits see humanity as the pinnacle of developed thought and try to imitate it. Occasionally they try to manifest themselves as physical beings but cannot into physics so it rarely works. Also spirits cannot understand the concept of permanence or that actions have consequences. In short cannot into Newtons laws of motion. The spirits that are begnin are called angels. Some even go as far as the actively help humanity. Other spirits that negatively affect humans are called demons Whether the harm they cause is intentional or not.

I shamelessly describe them exactly like Diablo's archangels.
>>
>Angels
Inhabitans of the city of gods and the protectors of the holy city on earth. They are most commonly slightly weird and out of place knight-like figures. Like a knight with a mirrorpolish armor, no head, and 1.5x longer arms than usual.
>demons
The city of gods fell on top of the holy city, causing immeasurable destruction, the angels are now hostile to anything that lives and are called demons.
>>
Demons come from the bottom of the ocean. The only unifying feature they possess is their physical origin and a family of mutually intelligible languages. They mostly raid ships at sea, lightly defended seaside villages, and other aquatic races' cities. They occasionally make deals with individuals or cults that worship them in exchange for wealth, knowledge, or power from the abyss.

Angels don't show up in setting.

Angels are horrifying eldritch monsters with little to no consciousness that were harnessed and crammed into metal bodies by the gods in order to utilize their strength for their divine will, and later used as envoys of divine power when the gods became otherwise occupied.

Demons are the same horrors that learned how to make bodies for themselves, and were thus less restricted.

216 immensely powerful divine spirits broken up into nine choirs of descending power and importance. What one perceives as the angel's physical form is only part of what they are - the rest of the angel's form is represented by its affect on the environment, in particular the way it alters and overwhelms the emotions and thoughts of nearby creatures. It is common that a mortal be compelled to fall to their knees and weep when directly confronted by an angel.

99% of the time angels perform their works behind the scenes: maintaining the flow of destiny of a single person or entire nations, granting subtle boons to the faithful, acting as a final check on the influence of powerful magicians, elder fae and terrestrial spirits, patching up reality, upholding divine law by judging what can and cannot exist, keeping eldritch horrors from ending the world, and a myriad of other important duties.

Most of the time these functions are practically automatic. Their divine authority is essentially the influence of two (nearly) all powerful Gods, the angels themselves acting as hands and intent. Rarely do they have to struggle with anything, much less fight. The higher angels essentially just stand on the outskirts of creation, looking at the various circuits and parts that make it function. Where their gaze falls, the will of God is felt, and things are made more right. Thus are little tweaks constantly made to the flawed creation of two imperfect Gods.

In the event that an angel does physically manifest in the world to take on a more hands on approach, they take on a variety of forms and tend to weild large scale reality warping abilities.

As spirits they don't really have personalities and concerns the way mortals do, and are more or less only interested in the divine plan. There are exceptions to this. But for the most part, they have no culture or society, and are tools of the Gods pure of purpose.

Demons are a bit harder to explain. In mortal terms, some fairies would count as this. Your imps and evil spirits and what have you. But these are just normal spirits, no more abhorrent in the grand scheme than a pixie or a goblin.

A real demon would be the manifestation of a vast cosmic being, or perhaps some great outer dimensional force, that exists outside of creation. It is...hmm, have you ever seen the Neverending Story? Remember the Nothing? It's like the Nothing. It has no form and cannot be confronted directly; it is simply anathema to reality as we perceive it. Like a vast sea of uncreation that sometimes seeps in and unravels bits of what holds the universe together.

When it seeps in, it changes everything in proximity, especially souls, into what I'd call demons. Things that should not exist, and threaten existence as a whole. Like a disease trying to spread itself. The twisted abominations that form in the wake of this thing are your typical insane body horror shit. Mutation, madness, topsy turvy nonsense in the most truly evil and stomach wrenching sense.

This is in large part what middle ranked angels have to clean up. They're patching holes and mopping up corrupting influence before it can take twisted form on all time lines all the time. Shit still gets through rarely, and those are bad times.

Typically formless moats of energy that was, for all intents and purposes, animalistic and non-sentient until they were exposed to human conciousness which allowed them to become sentient.

These then formless energy beings then began to learn about humanity and some even assumed various various human philosophies and religions and shaped themselves in their image
>>
Angels in my current setting are usually referred to as the 'arms of the gods', any god who directly interacts with the world has a good chance of damaging reality in the process (and the last time they did that the fae happened) so angels are their main means of interacting in the world, they're made of divine energy and as such are essentially immortal (except theoretically to another angel).

Demons were angels who became fascinated with humanity. We have the ability to think rationally and a knowledge of right from wrong but some people sometimes choose to ignore both, for angels this is a difficult thing to understand. So some of the angels whose job was to observe the world and report back to the gods decided to start testing this trait. They push humans, as individuals and on a large scale, to see under what circumstance we break from morality and/or reason and exactly how we do it and react to the crimes afterwards. A demon will cause a famine then take notes on the order in which people eat each other. In order to conceal themselves from angels they took on a physical form from their environment, essentially becoming an elemental, this body can be destroyed, releasing the pure divine energy form of the demon, and if it is then an angel is usually dispatched immediately to destroy it, although the collateral damage from this fight usually kills anyone in the general area meaning that people tend to avoid demons instead of fighting them, even when they could, besides they usually don't go out of their way to directly kill humans since they don't learn much from doing so.

Something like this would be a good example of the "demon effect."

Even so, this image would only represent a tiny fragment of an unimaginably massive whole, and even then you can't see it for what it really is, just its reason defying affect on things that get caught up in it.

The whole thing is far larger than the entire known universe that houses everything that can be understood.

There are two types of Angels I've thought up for my setting so far. "The Chosen", which are the regular white-feathered, beautiful beings with divine magic, and the "Deep Angels", which are a similarly powerful race of divine beings that resides in the deepest reaches of the oceans. Worship/Reverence of the Chosen is completely outlawed, seen as heresy of the utmost severity, while the Deep Angels are widely worshiped throughout the world.

>Angels
1) Pure enforcers of law, automatons created by the first two gods as servants of their children. Not sapient.
2) Children of the gods given less direct influence than their parentage, sometimes given the opportunity to walk among mortals.
3) Powerful souls of those committed to the highest ideals in action and word during life, given the opportunity to continue when the hells attempt to intervene in mortal affairs.
>Demons
1) Abominations created from magic, imprinted only with the hatred of that which created them. Basically living, divine-level hatred taken magical form. Not sapient.
2) Another name for evil gods or demigods.
3) Mortals who are or were useful enough as allies to other denizens of the hells that they are granted a new form in exchange for service and power.

Two types of angels exist:

>"False" Angels
Made by the gods, usually saints granted ascension. Most only came into being recently.

>"True" Angels
Made during creation of the worlds, four-hundred, fourty-three thousand, five hundred and fifty six angels stood in a square before the Creator, and a line of angels each flew to one of the budding worlds.
They are the "eldritch abomination" angels, and they generally don't manifest unless given good reason to; the creator doesn't particularly care about what mortals or gods are doing.

>Demons
Beings made from the evil in the hearts of men, or tortured souls from the underworld, depending on the specific demon.
>>
Angels, Fae, and Demons, are different cultures of the same sort of extra dimensional being. They're all constantly maneuvering in the mortal plane in a cold war.

Demons were the most militarily powerful. They used their position in pagan times to barter for man's souls, creating slave armies/work forces of the undead in their dimension. It isn't exactly suffering if you find a good/kind owner.

Angels were the second most powerful. They view slavery as evil, but were unable to do anything about it until the Fae helped them. Generally the angels believe their culture is the best, and they try to peacefully spread it everywhere. They view themselves as protectors of man.

The Fae are the weakest militarily. They seek to play each other greater power against each other to avoid their culture being conquered. Mankind is a tool to frustrate and confound the other societies politically. They only seek the strongest, smartest, and most beautiful souls, to steal them away from the demons.

The Fae and the angels collaborated to perform the biggest upset of power in history: they helped Jesus, who was the leader of the angels given human form by the fey, tricked the demons into a non interventionist pact. He then opened up angel land (heaven) to any who knew the way (belief). This had the side effect of stopping the flow of magical energy into the world. Now the angels are the strongest militarily.

A thousand and some odd years later, the pact ends, magic starts flowing into the medieval world, and the players find themselves in the middle of the largest social upheaval since
Jesus himself, while the demons begin enacting thousand year old plots to restore their society to its old place at the top.

Neither side is necessarily evil. Many demons view the soul trade as a form of indentured servitude, and treat their humans with respect. Some even seek to reform it, offering the slaves a path to citizenship (which would effectively turn them into a demon).
>>
>>47059835
In my setting? They come from the same place, and were initially the same: Beings that had no purpose or form until mortals 'gave' them names, stories, and aspects. Once they learn of their role, the new beings adopt it with gusto, becoming the very angel/demon/god mortals perceive them to be.

>Demons
They live in the sun. Their constant fighting and fucking is causing all that heat that helps warm up the planet so life can live on them. Not necessarily evil, more they just hate being trapped on the sun and hate all living things that require it (which is basically everything).

What they're considered depends on the deity they come from Muses, which embody a field of learning, follow the goddess of knowledge; angels, which embody a virtue, follow the god of life; fae, which are their own thing, follow the two-part deity of the wild; devils, which embody a vice, follow the deity of the abyss; and demons, which embody a type of conflict, follow the deity of the nether. To make things worse, each of the deities are examples of the other deities' followers - the god of life, having created all life, is a muse of what is basically genetics and/or selective breeding; a devil, being that he's a shapeshifting lothario, of excess and hedonism; a demon of vengeance and wrath; and a greater fae, which are basically genius loci of minor demiplanes, of the heavens, which look a bit like the aether mod for minecraft crossed with super mario galaxy's levels, just as an example. It's a bit messed up, but no one really recognizes it for what it is, so they haven't really seen reason to change it.

Basically, "A muse, an angel, a fae, a demon, and a devil all walk into a bar. The bartender realizes what's happening, and asks which is which. They all shrug." Ba-dum-tish.

Demons are spawned forth from the churning twisting realm known as the Chaos. Their purpose is the corruption and desecration of things. Adversaries of gods, the most powerful of their number considered godlike themselves. The Chaos is sealed away by their jailers, the corrupted celestial beings now known as Devils.

Angels are celestial beings and expressions of the plane trying to protect itself from outer incursions. An angel doesn't exist until it's needed, and emerges from existing physical material, like animals, statues and idols, or greatly devout people like level 20 Paladins.
>>
>>47059835
Magical automatons created by the Positive and Negative deities.
They have no choice, free will, or creativity.
They are however, complete and utter BEASTS in combat.
As they're kinda rocking a mainline straight to their God.
>>
Angels don't exist, as there is not any intelligent divinity, at least not one that affects the world.

There is a "demon", which is some sort of alien monster of incomprehensibly powerful magic, kept asleep by the mechanisms of the space ship which carried it for billions of years before crashing into the ocean. Globally, it causes people to be born with (to varying degrees) the ability to use magic. Close to its landing site is a circular archipelago on which fleeting fragments of memory from the creatures dreams are physically manifested as "solid shadows" which inevitable destroy anything unfortunate enough to come near.
>>
>>47059835
There are none because I don't have a setting.
>>
in my fantasy setting the closest thing to angels are paladins. thy serve their god and protect the land and her people with the help f the power they get from pledging themselves to one of the gods in the human pantheon.
they originally began as a loop hole to one of commandments of the creator god. the commandment was that his children could only be as powerful as the mightiest mortal when they walk on the earth. the gods began to infuse their servants with parts of their power to make them stronger and thus make the god's earth avatar stronger.
they eventually began to love and care for the humans under their care and now care for them as if they where their own children.

the demons of the setting are the collative total of the elves potential evil.
the elven god when he was making the elves, took away their potential for evil and sealed it away but when a signal drop of god blood found it's way into the place it was kept, it birthed the dark ones. they now terrorize the land killing, raping and enslaving all who they lay eyes on. think chaos demons basically.

>What are your setting's angels, /tg/?
Angels are the servants of the gods. The gods need them because they are only allowed to interfere with the affairs of the world only to a limited extent. They mostly act as advisers and guides. Angels have wills of their own, but because they are bound to the god that created them they almost never rebel. They can ask to be released however. A released angel maintains most of their power, but will never be as strong as they were when bound to their god. Despite all the pantheons angels are rarer than most magical creatures including demons.
They have many different physical appearances but the most common traits are glowing, halos, and feathered wings. They can shape shift only to an extent as to hide their other worldly origins

>Your demons?
Demons come from a number of sources, but the first were spawned from the nether world that most of them call home. Demons have no single leader and many reject any form of leadership. You're more likely to run across a demon manor led by a single powerful demon with a dozen lesser demons serving them than you are to meet a self proclaimed "Demon King." Demons are more varied than angels with most focused around a single or few vices or sin. Demons vary in power with most weaker than angels, but the strongest that arise become threats that may require armies of angels to overcome. The nether is the antithesis to the paradise the pantheons call home, so they hate each other on principle.
Appearance: Horns are almost universal. Tails, wings, oddly colored skin and eyes are also common. Not all can shape shift, but many that can can take on any form.

>Angels
Divine-touched souls of those who, for whatever reason, died with an immense surplus of holiness, purity, righteousness, divinity and/or sheer bloody-minded will, so much that they were offered the position by one of the Mortal Gods, and thus continue on as a sort of einherjar.
Alternately, an animal chosen by one of the Twelve Stellar Beasts of the Divine Wheel (basically the Zodiac) to bear, temporarily or permanently, a miniscule fraction of the essence of that Beast's Being.

>Devil
In the dark and untamed parts of the world, the shadowy and unwelcoming tunnels, and even in come black corners of cities and towns, there are creatures of little more than shade, and drive, and hunger. These 'demons' seek out sources of warmth and life, engulfing them within themselves and leeching from them as a parasite, warping the hapless victim into a twisted mockery of itself as it is slowly devoured piece by piece.
When one of these demons finds a sapient victim, however, the power of the mind is so great as to warp the resulting being, twisting the mockery even further into a nightmare of the victim's own creation, complete with his or her own mind and memories - yet stripped of restraint, of morals and of bonds, leaving the result a creature of pure, sociopathic desire and impulse, untempered and unrestrained. These are the beings known as Devils, and if allowed to mature and grow into themselves, can be truly disturbing things to behold.

Eckhart saw Hell too. He said: The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, he said. They're freeing your soul. So the way he sees it, if you're frightened of dying and... and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth. It's just a matter of how you look at it, that's all

angels don't exist, demons are related to ghosts, both are essentially lost souls that have somehow manifested in the world if the living.
Demons possess or manifest a physical body, spirits are incorporeal. There are good and evil ones of both kinds.

The way it works is like this
The stronger an angel gets the more like a perfected human it looks. really weak angels are indistinguishable from humans
The stronger a demon gets the more monstrous it is
succubi are not considered demons, they were made by a wizard and are technically golems they just have a unique way to "charge" themselves
The lawful good deity is unimaginably beautiful/ handsome and looks pleasing no matter your preference (unless it's sinful you pervert)
The chaotic evil one is basically right out of call of chuthulu and will drive you mad with prolonged exposure
There are more deities, and they run the gamut between the two
