Guys what is the best system for a post apocalyptic game?
>>
>>43573643
savage worlds because its rules light, but good with status effects. It's also better for players more focused on roleplaying verses just shooting things.

>>43573643
Shouldnt those people in the gif go blind? Doesn't a nuclear blast cause such immense light to burn the inner eye?

Gamma World is a great setting if you like future apocalypse with lasers and all sorts of weird mutants and shit. I understand that in lots of groups it devolves into zany and silly (assuming it didn't start out that way), but I play it deadly serious, portraying things a weird and disturbing rather than funny.

With that said, the mechanics of Gamma World may or may not be for you. They range from old school TSR stuff--somewhat reminiscent of AD&D, only without classes or levels (which changes a lot), and mutations (each with a certain number of uses per day, or maybe week) instead of spells--to modern d20-system stuff. The most recent edition is based on 4e D&D and is apparently designed to be a zany, short-term pickup game. 2nd edition Gamma World is pretty much the definitive "classic" edition. There is also a Savage Worlds port, which I have no experience with, but it seems like Savage Worlds would work great for Gamma World.

1st through 4th edition Gamma World (the Savage Worlds port is in the Third Party folder) -- https://mega.nz/#F!z9wHCQwC!HCeMOum5467vvbTd2XwiMw

>savage worlds because its rules light
I like Savage Worlds, but it's definitely too involved to be rules-light. Something like Barbarians of Lemuria or Moldvay Basic D&D is rules-light. Savage Worlds is rules-medium, which makes it a shitload simpler than stuff like Pathfinder.

It pretty much comes down to how you want your apocalypse to look like.

If you want something pulpy, in the line of Fallout or Mad Max, go with Savage World, Deadlands: Hell on Earth, or Atomic Highway.

For zombie apocalypse there's All Flesh Must Be Eaten!

If you want something more narrative there's Apocalypse World.

If you want to detail exactly everyday's struggle like finding food, fighting diseases, etc. then a simulationist game like Twilight 2000 or Aftermath would be two possibilities.

If you want something more weird there's Rifts.
>>

>Barbarians of Lemuria
Speaking of which, Barbarians of the Aftermath is based on that system. I haven't read over it, but BoL is great.

I mean, they should be dropping to the floor and covering their ears in hopes that the overpressure wave doesn't kill them all too, but vidyagames. It's about cinematics more than anything else.
>>
First question with post apocalyptic is do you want gonzo with the whole kitchen sink magic, aliens, plant men, super mutants such as Metamorphsis Alpha, Gamma World, Rifts even Fallout. Or more subdued modern tech based like Morrow World or Twilight 2000. I'd even put zombie apocalypse genre RPGs in the same boat since they have only one fantastical element the zombies and everything else is normal.
>>
>>43573643
My friend made a post-apocalyptic tabletop from scratch, and it was almost the most fun I've ever had in a tabletop rp g. Almost.
>>
>>43573784
And there's also GURPS, which can do 4 of those.
>>
>>43573643
What a shitty ending if true. I bet they don't even let you play after it. When will bethesda learn?
>>
>>43573643
>>43573693
This just an elaborate troll thread to "spoil" Fallout 4?
>>
There's also Octane. Again a pulpy RPG.
>>
>>43574069
Well seeing ass every jack off and his mother thinks posting 'spoilers' is the next level of comedy, yes.
>>
>>43574054

Funny thing is that Fallout are supposed to use the GURPS rule, but end up creating their own SPECIAL system instead.
>>
>>43574069
>>43574141
I like how this was an excuse to post a "epic troll" image, but nobody has yet to actually give a shit because /tg/ is so used to shit like the loliposter guy who always shoehorns some half-assed topic.

Now that I think of it... OP, are you one of those /v/irgins that makes "what video games can I play an X in?" threads?
>>
>>43574202
>>43574141
Realistically, why would /tg/ care about FO4 spoilers anyway? It's the one Fallout game where you're playing someone else's character. There's no roleplaying or creativity to be had really.
>>
>>43574254
>It's the one Fallout game where you're playing someone else's character.

For real? What the fuck, they BETTER not pull that shit in the next elder scrolls.

>tfw you will never get to play the best postapocalypse game ever again
>>
>>43574054
Which also happens to ruin it for many people.
>>
>>43574339
You're either straight or bisexual, once you're out in the wasteland you're free to romance any gender without issue.
>>
>>43574254
wat
How do you play someone else's character?
>>
>>43574982
Because it has a predetermined backstory. You know, like every other Fallout game.
>>
>>43575030
New Vegas was the most open, you're a courier, everything beyond that is up to your imagination.

But yeah I'm not getting the anger, every other Fallout game has a pretty established backstory.

1: You're a Vault Dweller from V13

2: You're a tribal from Arroyo and grandchild of the original character.

3: You're a Vault Dweller in V111

They all have established backstories with enough wiggle room.

4: You're a former soldier who got frozen.

There's tons of wiggle room in there regarding your personality, what you did during the war, what your character thought about it, and so forth.
>>
>>43573656
I played Savage Worlds in a post-apocalyptic setting and I remember shooting quite a few things.
>>
>>43575107
No it's NEW so it must be BAD!

Fallout 4 has it's faults in the role-play department, primarily the awful dialogue system. Which can be boiled down to, Yes, No Sarcastic, or Question. But having a background is not really one of them.
>>
>>43575107
Most of it comes from the much more limited dialogue options and the main character having a voice.
>>
>>43575172
>>43575178

I have my concerns about the game but I'm still excited. I feel certain choices were mistakes but despite that I'm still pumped.

I'm just passing time right now waiting for my copy to arrive in a few hours.

I just hope my potato of a computer can run it without it becoming a baked potato.
>>
>>43575107
New Vegas still had an established backstory with the Lonesome Road DLC.

But yeah, complaining about it shows that you've never really played any of the other games before.
>>
>>43575202
The game is fine, it just cut out RPG for different features.

The Fallout fans I hate most of all are the knee-jerk Bethesda haters. They've made mistakes but it's not like the other games are all flawless gems crafted by the hands of demigods or something.

It always makes me chuckle when the haters complain about Bethesda cutting corners or not polishing things enough when the original games were notorious for gamebreaking bugs and massive holes of cut content that never got patched.

I'm gonna drop some appropriate post-apoc images while I'm talking to contribute to the thread here.

My favorite fans are those that complain FO3/NV are dull and empty and that tout FO2 as the best thing ever with the most freedoms.
Why?
Because you could marry and prostitute your wife, star into porn and deal drugs. Literally the only reasons I ever get.

Yeah I like the originals, they're iconic for a reason.

But I prefer 3/NV for actually having fun, getting into the world through the first person perspective, listening to the music, my own skill directly affecting how I do to a much higher degree. They're overall better experiences in my opinion.

The other ones who always irritate me are the 'purists' who think they're the guardians of the canon.

Usually it's coupled with willfully ignoring big parts of the established canon and declaring that the version of the setting that exists solely in their heads is the true version and you're a moron and a pleb if you accept the mere tripe that's actually in the games.
>>
>>43575790
Strange, I usually see people shit on FO3 and praise NV
>>
>>43573643
AFMBE and GURPS
>>
>>43573693
I don't care about the spoiler, I just want to know, cam I still play the same character after finishing the main story.
>>
I love All of the fallouts, except for Brotherhood of Steel that can burn in a ditch.

I first played FO3, which got me into the series and made me pic up 1, 2, Tactics, and Brotherhood. I loved 1 and 2, Tactics was decent. Then NV came out and I had great fun with it.

But I don't know, something about 4 just annoys the shit out of me.
>>
>>43575950
Most people i see either shit on NV or shit on FO3. Basically people who dont care about story seem to care about FO3 and people who love story love NV.
>>
>>43574038
what was the most fun you've ever had with a table top? (Please say kingdom death monster)
>>
>>43578627
>Brotherhood of Steel
Doesn't exist, I totally never wasted money on that. Nope didn't happen.
