Fraud to lie his way into an institution of higher education probably take the spot from someone else more worthy of it.

His incompetence puts his own, his team's and public lives at risk.
>>
>>43518228
A: I doubt him getting in kicked anyone else from admission, it shouldn't work like that.

B: Applicants are thinned by a literal life or death exam that would kill someone not competent enough to survive. If he made it through that, and he did, then he's worthy as anyone else.

C: His own and his team's I can get. But the Public is not supposed to rely on hunters in TRAINING for anything, certainly not their safety. Hell, hunters don't usually operate in civilian areas anyway. And if he's still incompetent by graduation time, then he's not going to graduate to a position where the public will rely on him.

D: He's undergoing additional training, he hasn't dropped out yet, and he's proven himself to be a valid tactician, hence his position as team leader.

I'd say visual fanservicy really wouldn't work with the low graphical power, and the freed time is spent with different chlichees.
So following your argument it's just a different kind of bad, where people aren't all that annoyed with due to lack of overexposure.
>>
>>43519336

Pardon me, did you just use "non-cliche" as a defense for RWBY? Because I suffered through quite a bit of that show and let me tell you, those characters were pretty fucking cliche.

This is babby's first "anime", nothing more.

>>
>>43519365
>I'd say visual fanservicy really wouldn't work with the low graphical power

Bullshit. There's plenty of more poorly animated shows with more fanservice, and /aco/ shows the number of people jerking it to RWBY models.
>>
>>43519445
I was more talkng about the low.poly models and blocky animations, but maybe that's just me having worked with 3D software.

People can jerk off to anything, but that was probably not what the creators of the show wanted to achieve. The low model quality made casual fanservice not efficient enough, so the creators decided not to use any or something like that.
>>
>>43519570
>Fanservice

Like, it's an appeal to tradition? If they just want to stay coherent with the first episodes of the series, that's fine by me, but fuck appeal to tradition.

If the show generates decent income, they should invest some of it to make the future product better.
>>
>>43519729
My best guess is they're going to upgrade but they already had some stuff done and in the wake of Monty dying they didn't have the resources to upgrade.

The only thing that really impresses me about RWBY is the sheer scale.
I mean, most people make a comic or something on the internet, wait for it to get a few fans, let it die down, get the writing out of their system.
But he went full hog and started up a web series with paid actors to showcase his... original content, I guess?
I wouldn't be surprised if it started out as Final Fantasy fan-fiction or something.
And it has a fanbase now.
I mean, even if it's awful literature in terms of implementation, you have to at least admire the size of the damn thing.

Well, RWBY's fights are at least entertaining to watch.

Naruto sorta gave up on the idea a fight had to be fun to watch sometime around the timeskip, brought it back briefly when Might Guy did things, and then immediately stopped talking about it when Might Guy stopped doing things.

For the most part fights just turned into big energy blobs and emo teens staring people to death. The people that still fought with their fists in that sea of bullshit were the rare bright spots. At least I felt some impact watching RWBY and its weird (but explained) bloodless bloodbaths.
>>
>>43526715
>The people that still fought with their fists in that sea of bullshit were the rare bright spots.

Remember when fist-ninja fought sand-ninja? That was some hardcore shit and coincidently one of the few things a remember about Naruto.
>>
>>43526715
I dropped Naruto around the time Tsunade was introduced, so I don't really know much about it. It was already unreadable trash at that point, far as I'm concerned. It was however very good, if not great, up until the second Chuunin exam trial, where it swiftly started going downhill. The mini-tournament preliminary had some good fights, but it had nothing to do with anything ninja-related. After the Sound Ninja wrapped in bandages was killed off-screen by Gaara, it was basically nothing but shit, save Hokage vs. Orochimaru, and to some degree Shikamaru vs. Temari.
>>
>>43526715

The biggest problem with RWBY is that the plot and characterizations were all over the fucking place. We're two seasons in, and don't even have a CLUE what the plan of the villains is, and there's been 0 threat to the heroes in every encounter with them, so there's no investment in the story. Almost every fight has had the good guys curb-stomp the villains, and the villains have made no measurable advancements of their evil plot that we don't even know what it is, so it's starting to be hard to care.

The worst part is that we know that Rooster teeth can do villains well. Remember when Wyoming showed up and was able to just casually murder Tex, who had been up till that point, the invincible badass that all others fear? Or how terrifying and unstoppable Maine/the Meta was? That was a good set of Villains. The bad guys in RWBY are somewhat.... lacking by comparison.
>>
>>43526972
That's probably because Burnie is a far better writer than Miles and Kerry
>>
>>43526972
I'm guessing we'll probably get some serious threat towards the end of this season.
Tournament arcs pretty much ALWAYS get interrupted by the villains, after all.
If I had to put money on which major characters are going to get their ass beat in order to put the villains over, it'd be Ren (Monty was his original voice, it'd make sense from a practical standpoint to off him) and/or Pyrrha (whose entire character SCREAMS of being set up to take a fall in order to establish a villain as a credible threat).
>>
>>43516285
Everyone that has trained in Aura use gets a Semblance. Problem is that this is horribly horribly explained and requires you to have read/listen to basically everything related to the series AND STILL make some inferences based on the writers/creator's usual style to figure shit out.

To say that Basic Concepts in RWBY are poorly-explained is like saying that Kubo is only okay at drawing backgrounds.

How? Literally HOW? It's all overly floaty and nothing has any weight to it. Blows land and then... nothing. Every hit looks like a no sell or causes some over-the-top playacting of damage.

I am honestly confused as to how anyone would pick, of all things, the all-style-no-substance fights that don't even manage to really be stylish as the big point of watching RWBY.

And before anyone wants to put words in my mouth, I'm not defending that DBZ-wannabe Naruto. It is in fact possible to find both things awful.
>>
>>43528596
Not him, but...

They're novel. Probably in part due to the mediocre animation. Oum was just so over-the-top in his choreography, doing things you'd never see in any other medium.

Plus for some people, it probably has nostalgic value. Dead Fantasy and Haloid were huge when they were new, at least among certain demographics.

Hey, do you want to be taken out by Jo Schmo with a fucking shovel, or die as a fist that is also a shotgun crashes into you and goes off as an anime girl does her stuff?
>>
>>43530439
There's a third that thinks "my god that animation is awful and the design is fucking shit".

>It's all overly floaty and nothing has any weight to it.
I've never understood what was meant by this. What is an example of weighty or heavy combat?
>>
>>43531532
Generally weighty combat is that each blow has force that can be felt as a viewer. Basically imagine when a charecter has to block a blow they actually feel the force behind the block and it shows instead of the DBZ esque rapid hits that have the weight of gentle slaps. Its mostly an aparence thing.
>>
>>43531532
Have you ever watched a fight scene in a movie where one guy gets hit, and you just have to go "Ooooh" or cringe or squirm just a little? That's what a weighty fight looks like. It's a unique combination of the actual hit, sound effects, and recoil that makes it look real enough to have impact, but not so over the top that it becomes ridiculous.

Shit, did any of that make sense?
>>
>>43531625
But what's an example of weighty combat then?
>>
>>43531672
Almost all of the brawls in Fight Club
>>
>>43531661
It makes sense and that's kind of what I figured it was, but I can't recall any instance in RWBY that I felt the opposite of what you said. For that matter, in DBZ itself I can recall several instances of what would be considered good solid hits and that's not counting energy blasts.

>>43531776
I'll give that a look later.
>>
>>43531814
Just watch a lot of action movies and get a feel for the choreography.

If you're looking for an example of a "weightless and floaty" thing, look at the Matrix trilogy. Lots of flashy moves, very little impact.

I'm pretty sure the reason attacks don't look like they do a lot of damage is because they don't. From what I've gathered Aura means that defensive power is higher than attack power for the most part

Why do people keep talking about porn for this when it's mostly one off pictures and writefaggotry. Does the latter actually constitutes something of interest ?
And why did miwa shirou, the guy who made DOGS of all thing, get picked to adapt aomething so thoroughly softcore compared to what he usually does.

A think to keep in mind about the slow pace: if the series had full length episodes (20 minutes), we'd only be about 16 episodes in. It's still pretty slow, but not quite as slow as saying "2 seasons".

Whole point of rwby is to be OVER THE FUCKING TOP.

Because they offered him enough money for him to say yes.

Well, he does fight as well as who he is historically based on.

He's based on somebody?

Disregard my previous post, im retarded

I am not judging them by the standards of a normal TV series, but in comparison to their other work, RvB, and that manages to have complete arcs while also contributing to the overarching mythos in a single season of shorts.

Everyone on his team is a genderbent version of a historical/mythological figure who crossdressed at one point in their story. We discussed it already up thread

I visited that once.
It was cancerous, even by the standard of general threads. Now I wait for people on other boards I visit to make off-topic RWBY threads.
