Fa/tg/uy hobbies that aren't gaming?
I dabbled in blacksmithing for a year or so, I'm doing woodcarving right now.

I'd love to blacksmith, just some little shit, a striker, a 'hawk, an Ulu, all high carbon, partial temper.

Carving bone atm. Don't.

>>46479518
I collected some nibs and inks over the last year. Still looking for decent affordable paper, art suppliers are too pricey. Learning some Fraktur variant now.
>>
While at heart I'm a fa/tg/uy, my dominant hobbie other than gaming is fitness. I do about an hour/day at the gym and micromanage my calories. I'm not swole yet, but I can bench my weight and see my top abs, which I'm happy about.

I also do car repairs for beer money. 4 hours on a Saturday morning for untaxed $40 is pretty nice.
>>
I'd say electronics and coding qualifies. I'm not very good at latter, but have managed to built security system for my house with motion sensors and cameras. Also have built some radio stuff.

Damn. Hit me up and we'll see. I mainly make rings and such. Though I'm thinking of branching out. All I've got is a Dremel, files, and sandpaper; I live on a boat and don't have much space. My temp email is: [email protected]

I do leather work and wood work.

Made my desk and bed. Planning on a gaming table soonish.

Cosplay people and larpers commission a bunch of my leather stuff. It's pretty fun and pays well but it's super inconsistent.

I have made jewelry on an amateur level. It's satisfying, and I could actually see improvement in the skills I have really quickly. Sadly I don't have any tools right now due to extenuating circumstances, but I've got an idea for something I'd like to try. I just need to learn how to carve rocks, and depending on how strong the rock is, get some liquid nitrogen to shrink metal temporarily.

Shitposting, politics, and prehistoric megafauna
>>
>>46481686
Ah yes, the diet of your average internet mastermind.
>>
>>46481519
How do I best split a 2 lbs block of flint so that it gives me some nice arrow or spear tips and fire starters?
>>
>>46481624
Interesting. A dremel can help a lot with carving small things. Oh and a vacuum chamber can help with making weak rock stronger. What you do is you submerge the stone in resin place it in the chamber and pump out all the air. The resin gets forced into the stone and strengthens it significantly. That's what is done with stones like blue john.

>>46481637
Anything published?

I don't produce any material products, if that's what you mean.

When you mention woodcarving, I obviously think of dice: have you carved any?

Meh, I just find that shit entertaining. Prehistoric megafauna are cool af, this year's presidential election is a fucking blast (doesn't help that /pol/ is on a fucking roll with the memes), and shitposting is always fun.
>>
Hiking and history.

Gaming got me into both.
>>
>>46479291
I really enjoy pottery(throwing on the wheel), but I don't have the funds right now to get started again.
>>
>>46481809
Oh wow, that's actually really helpful. I'm curious as to how the resin gets forced in. Is it because whatever air is in there is replaced by the resin as it leaves? Would it be better if I carved the shape and then reinforced it, or reinforced the raw materials?
>>
>>46479291
Writing, programming and 3D modelling I tried to turn into a carreer at some point. Drawing, composing, woodworking, archery, playing piano/guitar and building electronis out of/into trash are all things I tried and sometimes pick up when I'm bored. Been also thinking about picking up HEMA once my job situation is more stable, mostly to get a two for one in writing and fitness. Guess bumming around in the city also counts seeing how frequently I do that.

And for some reason I'm still bored most of the time.
>>
>>46482017
Correct, the resin is forced into the space vacated by air. And it is better to do it to the raw material. It is usually done to stone that is too weak or brittle to carve without reinforcement. It helps to bake the stone at ~125 C or so in order to remove any water as well.

It's half cumbersome. But luckily sawing put the handle for the trigger didn't totally destroy the structural integrity. It's meant to be bulky and a bit inelegant. Might end up with a tangential carry handle for lulz

When you say woodcarving, do you do mostly do artistic stuff, like statues or reliefs?
>>
>>46479291

>>
>>46484290
to be honest I couldn't tell you, since I've taken it up in august, couldn't really do it from september to february since I was teaching in china and boxing gyms were hard to find. Before that I wasn't working when I took it up, I was mostly preparing to go. Now that I'm back I'm doing it as well, but I haven't been working since I got back.

Honestly though, I've realized that mentioning that I box 3 times a week at a gym, but am willing to work around it, hasn't been helping my search. So I think I'm just going to stop mentioning it in interviews.

In a nutshell, I honestly don't think it'd get in the way too much if you're already working and are just starting out and can work around it. Basically, if you already have a job I'd say you'd be fine doing it, especially if you're already decently fit and it's not a physical job. If it IS a physical job, you're probably decently fit anyways, but just take it light. The part where it affects things, right now at least, is that it might affect how competitive I am in the job market - since I'm looking for work and all employers where I am want you to suck their cock just to maybe get part-time at minimum wage, with no hope for advancement or a raise.
>>
>>46481809
Let's say you're super primitive. Can you get the some of the same effect by normally coating it in resin?
>>
>>46484778

I use elder futhark runes to write out what I want them to do. Use a wood associated with protection or healing. You can make paper ones as well. The language isn't that important. It's the intent while carving. I use EF because each rune can mean something in addition to what I spell out.
