Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. You are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy. The year is 285AC, two years after the Rebellion and a year after your return to Westeros.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

And now without further ado.
>>
Ser Lucas Longwaters rounds again as you re-enter the grandstand for the final round of the day, he looks haggard, the way he drops his shattered lance is without the same fervor as before. His opponent meanwhile, Ser Bennard Brune looks as fresh as spring, your own Knight Ser Aden Brune and his younger brother had informed you the Heir to House Brune of Brownhollow would be competing, you had suspected he would in the second day. Most of the first had been dedicated to Hedge Knights and Knights of lower standing, the second was where the Lords and previous Champions would come out in force. You watch Wesley finish his last pass of the day, neither man being dismounted but being awarded the victory on points. He looks relieved as he slouches off his horse, nearly falling over into Orion’s arms. Dontos, Quentyn, and Ser Stevron Staunton all had fared well enough for the remainder of the day and won out, not surprising regarding Dontos or Quentyn, but you were surprised by the skill of Ser Stevron, a dark horse upon the first day no doubt. The three of them wait before the grandstands, Wesley joining them to watch another pass from Lucas and Bennard.

“Ser Lucas looks to be on his last legs,” Obella remarks, watching him waver.

You nod, casting an eye to the stands where Lord Argor and Lady Racheal Conklyn sit, you can see the look of concern fully upon Lucas’ wife’s face. It wasn’t unusual for a Champion to go down the first day, even more so the second, you had seen it before, it was a difficult task to go through the gauntlet of challengers with little reprieve between. Lucas for his part held up better than you had expected, and he straightens when it is time for another pass, they were tied three lances a piece.
>>
Lucas digs into his horse, the golden courser you had gifted him for winning the Melee, his opponent doing the same, settling into a gallop far quicker than your friend. Ser Bennard’s form is tight, and his lance well placed, Lucas’ begins to slip as he attempts to lock it in, leaning far too much to one side. When they meet Lucas’ lance barely scraps against Bennard’s shield, harmlessly deflecting to the side, meanwhile Bennard’s lance digs firmly into Lucas’ breastplate, and in an instant it is over. Lucas tumbles to the ground in a heap, the crowd gasps to see the local favorite unhorsed so decisively. You lean forward on instinct, watching Lucas’ body, and are relieved when he rolls over under his own power, flinging his helmet off in a partial rage and want for air. Grant Conklyn rushes over to him with a handful of pages and squires and help your Knight up. And just like that you were down to three, a squire begins to take down Lucas’ shield, and replace it with the brown paw of House Brune, as you watch you can’t help but to think this complicated things further. Ser Bennard Brune travels to your grandstand, dismounting and bowing deeply before you as the herald calls for an end of the day just as dusk had begun to mount in the sky.

---

You find yourself alone in the center of a circle of Lords and Ladies of the Realm, the band quiet for the moment, you cast an eye about watching carefully until you see Quentyn and Obella. Your brother-in-law is escorting his sister into the grand hall, her dress now a flowing gold, the same as your horses, over her shoulder is your cloak, the black and purple reminding you that this was indeed a reality. You can’t help but smile broadly as they approach, the crowd’s eyes trained upon her, as they part for her to come to you for your first dance. Quentyn stops upon the cusp of the circle, his sister patting his hand before coming to you as the music to play.
>>
She takes your offered hand and you step into a slow waltz, the voiceless music calling for such. The crowd cheers, and Obella looks up to you, drinking in your wildfire with her pools of blue. The fire in your heart that had been quenched so long ago feels the spark of kindling again, in time you felt it could be the roaring fire it once was. The music slowly evolves to something a bit faster paced and those of the crowd begin to join in your dance, Obella is passed off to Dontos, who for once looks comfortable with a woman and you find yourself dancing with Lady Elsa Dayne, your wife’s mother. You can see where Obella gets her beauty from, the eyes in particular. She is graceful, even in her older age, and is speaks to you in parts, thanking you for bringing her family back together, even if for a moment.

The night continues on, feasting, drink, and dance. You indulge in a single glass of wine for the night, toasting with Quentyn for his speech to new brothers. Otherwise you enjoy the sober company of your wife, pausing only briefly to thank well wishers, and briefly chat with those that requested it. Nothing of too great import. Your high table to similar to the other night, though you find yourself attempting to ignore Lady Mellario of Norvos and Lady Lysa Tully moreso than before. You wished to push the thoughts to the back of your mind for the moment, a harder task sans wine. Upon the completion of the final meal you hear the band winding up, a soft subtle sound as the build to a crescendo, Obella looks to you being very much aware of the purpose of the music herself, out the corner of your eye you catch your guests beginning to rise, oh Westerosi tradition.
>>
Lady Racheal Conklyn is the first to you, her hands slipping under your arms and picking you from your chair, you offer feigned resistance. Obella doing the same to a rather battered Lucas Longwaters, his brother Jon not too far after him, smiling and laughing. You find yourself mobbed by the finer Ladies that had attended your wedding, those you knew and some entirely a mystery. Your doublet is the first to go as you’re pushed up the stairs, you catch a look of Obella in Lord Mathis Rowan’s arms pounding against his chest with a laugh though your vision is shortly obscured by Lady Alexes Chelsted taking your undershirt from you. Your boots are an affair, laced so high up as they were, you get seated and they are made quick work of, a sneak attack by Lady Brune cousins stealing your pants. Luckily for you your room is not too far off and an attempt to break away allows you to reach the door first and press it open, a smile dancing upon your lips as you bow and thank the Ladies for their help. As you turn you receive a fair slap upon your ass, casting an eye back you meet eyes with Lysa Tully for a moment longer than you wished before closing the door.

Obella looks at you from the edge of the bed, and beckons you forward with her fingers, for once you can see the bump of your child but it mattered to you little. She was a beauty, no matter the state, and you could feel the passion in your chest ignite as your manhood began to stir to her naked form. She wraps her arms around your shoulders, pressing her forehead against your own, and smiling before embracing you fully and kissing you deeply. You press her back, months of want beginning to melt away as you push into her, her breathing catching as you enter and begin a night as Lord and Lady.

---

The morning sun breaks your sleep, though you find yourself attempting to escape the mess of black hair upon your face. Obella is awake already, leaning over you, tracing a scar upon your left breast with her fingers.
>>
“Good morning Brynden.”

You push up and kiss her before falling to the soft cushion of the bed, “Morning.”

She smiles at you, falling upon your chest, her fingers still at play, “Last night was… Incredible. You… You felt-”

“I waited, to see you again Obella,” you respond cutting her off, eyes trained upon the window. Early morning still, dawn had just broke.

She nuzzles closer to you, finding your hand under the covers and placing it upon your stomach, “Two more months Brynden, and we’ll have our child. I do hope it is a girl. She would be so beautiful even my Prince will envy.”

You chuckle softly, feeling the stirring of the child against your hand, “The first of many.”

“How many?” She asks curiously.

“Four, five maybe?” You offer innocently.

“Five!? Do you wish me barefoot and pregnant at all times? Am I to do nothing else?” Obella responds with a degree of alarm sitting up and looking you in the eye.

“Well not at all times,” you reply with laughter, she punches your chest and falls to laughter upon it again rolling with you as you mount her, kissing her neck for a moment before resting your face against it, “I mean less is fine. I just… I enjoy a big family.”

Obella rolls her eyes, “Maybe. Five... Seven help me Brynden Malroy,” she pauses and looks off to the side, “Even with five I could not forget the one I sent off to live with that woman.”

“I know Obella,” you say with a darker tone, the thoughts had yet to leave your mind, and you wished to avoid the subject. Though little as you liked it, the day required your immediate attentions, “I still need to speak with my sister, and likely my Uncle. I…”

“Will do the right thing Brynden,” Obella says, her voice entirely unsure, “For your family.”
>>
Which part of your family she was speaking of you knew not. And further dared not to ask. You roll over and sit up upon the edge of your bed, typically Arron would have drawn a bath for you already and sat out clothing, likely he was out and about doing as children did the night prior. Not so hard to take care of yourself for a day. You collect your thoughts for a moment, you had a meeting with Lord Eustace Brune to attend still, though it wouldn’t be so hard to put it off until brunch just prior to the day’s opening tilts. Isis and Dontos would not be hard to track down for an early breakfast either.

Good to see you Father, FINALLY caught one thread live!
>>
Look at that slut not even wanting to carrying all his children!
>>
>>46374884
Okay now you're not even being coherent
>>
A faint rasp upon your door wakes you from idle thought, and your squire peaks his head in, looking half a mess himself, he stumbles in, keeping his eyes trained upon the floor as you eye him oddly.

“Long night out Arron?”

The boy looks at you suddenly and nods quickly, nearly falling over.

You fix him with a flat look, “Someone offered you wine didn’t they.”

Arron freezes, his eyes still upon the floor, before responding slowly, “Yes Lord Brynden.”

Rolling your eyes you shake your head and get up, looking the boy who is now slightly wavering from side to side over, “Get to bed Arron. Get some sleep. And drink some water. Let this be a lesson.”

“Yes Lord… Lord Brynden,” Arron responds clumsily stumbling over himself as he walks to his room on the side of your own. You almost laughed but remembered your own first drink, a glass of wine when you were about the boys age, you had almost puked out the contents of your stomach for the better part of the night. Children will be children. Entering the hallway beyond your room you catch Victus walking down the opposite direction, in a far better state than his friend, you call out to him and the boy swivels, running over into your embrace, “I take it you had a night as well my son?”

He looks at you bashfully, “Not so bad as Arron, father. I brought him back.”

You laugh and ruffle his hair, fallen out of its neat ponytail and into the tumble of curls you were use to, “And for that I thankful my son. Now, I need you find Dontos, and bring him to Isis room, if you catch the morning servants tell them to bring us something to break our fast there.”

The boy nods before dashing off as he typically did, and you followed after at your own pace, greeting the household servants and guards as they went about their morning rounds.
>>
It isn’t long before you find yourself before Isis’ room, a quick knock and she pops her head out from behind the door, looking at you with suspicion, “I am surprised you are not still abed brother. You have never been an early riser.”

“Important things to do sister,” you respond solemn and her look softens allowing you in. You cast an eye about the room, same as it had always been. You hardly had it touched since your arrival home, your sister preferred the purple of your coat of arms and much of the room was decorated as such, she offers you a seat and you watch her finish getting dressed and place the shawl upon her head. The scar had near ruined your appetite by the time food had arrived not shortly after your Uncle, half dressed in mail and sweaty, Victus had interrupted his morning workout in the yard.

You break an egg with the corner of toast, chewing your lip more than the food, before your sister sighs and places her hand upon your own, “Brynden, what is it?”

Looking to the side you place the piece of nibbled toast down and run a hand through your hair, you hadn’t even put it in a ponytail yet allowing the silver to fall across your back. Dontos stops eating and looks at you, his face suddenly becoming stern. Isis attempts to soften it but he shakes his head. Finally you begin to speak, telling Isis what plans you had been attempting to put into motion. Of potentially her joining Lady Lysa Tully at court, though for prices in the future. Or the far more dangerous Mellario plot, that your wife had suggested, though even herself felt unsure of. Of Saul Compton and Septon Tytos attempting to annul her marriage, even if it meant you need do things of a less than legal nature. For her part Isis maintains a straight face, hardly commenting. Though Dontos is far less reserved, expressing doubt regarding every plan.. As you finish Isis toys with her fork and looks you in the eyes.

“Don’t do anything Brynden.”
>>
You gap at her, blinking a few times, Dontos looks equally taken aback.

“I could not stand to know you sacrificed the happiness of your wife for me. The annulment is all we need. If it is done before I give birth, then you have robbed Royce of his heirs. His House dies there and I can leave.”

“Isis, it is unsafe. That bloody bastard would never leave, lock you away in that damnable tower and throw away the key. He would only take you again, or threaten you harm. He could kill you,” Dontos interjects, firmly crossing his arms, “No I will not allow it. I would sooner you throw your lot in with the Norvoshi woman or the Arryns if need be Brynden.”

“It is not your choice to make Uncle. It is mine,” your sister responds, “Brynden you will only bring his wrath by doing any of these things. Do you truly think he is content to poison? You and I are both aware the ‘bandits’ in the Princewood are his. They are his arm when he cannot touch you. But they can, and will if I disappear. Please, let me stay.”

You frown deeply. There was much to be said regarding any of the plans, and in truth in put Isis in danger regardless. Nothing caught you as the right option, though none could be discounted. Even against your better judgement you still felt a degree of truth behind Isis’ words. Isis and Dontos both look to you for an answer. For a plan.

>Discussion time

So, we had a bit of it last thread, but here is the final option to work with, doing nothing and Isis staying with Royce Redward. If there are questions regarding any plan, ask them now and I can answer. If we don’t have any particular thoughts on it further I will hold a vote and we will decide what we want to do.
>>
>>46375330
Do point out that it isnt sure it will be done before the birth and she will be in a extreme risk. Suggest using Dorian our bastard as a ward.

I say we let Isis stay in Kings Landing with Lysa and use Dorian to be the ward. Try convince Dontos.
>>
>>46375381
I really do not like the Dorian idea, the down sides to that are too much.

If we let Isis stay there, and the annulment goes through but he refuses to release her, that's casus belli right there. It's dangerous as hell, but I think it might be our best option.
>>
>>46375330
I told you niggas all Isis would say is don't do anything. Great, valid reasoning when your ass is on the line. Anyway, tell them you plan on acknowledging Dorian, the bastard in King's Landing and foisting the boy off to Lysa Tully. It's a solution where no one gets what they want but no one really gets ahead of the other either. Mind, don't suggest, tell them you are going to do it unless a better option is available
>>
>>46375330
And if you were to have an accident after you birthed that bastard's spawn? What would I do if I had left you to that? If you go to Kingslanding then I could at least see you occasionally and you'd be better protected by Arryn's men even if I do not fully trust him. The Lady Mellario's plot would take you away across the sea fbut for brief moments when she returned.
>>
>>46375330
Fuck it go with Isis's plan then. Every other plan was terrible in some way.

We may have way too few players for this atm
>>
>>46375481
And then Redward kills her and then what ?
>>
>>46375330
Obella got this bodyguard even though she is our wife, maybe we can give her one so the bastard doesn't try anything funny?
>>
>>46375468
Honestly, I'm fine with the downsides if it means getting one over on Lysa Tully. Better a bastard then a trueborn child
>>
>>46375497
Then that's it then isn't it.
>>
>>46375481
No Isis' plan is stupid and will get her dumbass killed, what are you thinking anon?
>>
>>46375497
Then we drop whatever evidence we've gathered to the crown and get permission to invade his lands. Hopefully Arryn stays alive til then.
>>
>>46375497
Then you accept Redward as your overlord.
>>
>>46375530
So then that's a no on Isis' plan because it's stupid and puts her at serious risk?
>>
>>46375546
They're all shitty. The bastard plan is absolutely horrible in terms of what people will think of us, I'd rather use a true born child then do something like that.
>>
>>46375330

why don't we just have one of Tully's men as a bodyguard for Isis when she returns?

No way is he gonna try anything with a bodyguard from tully right there.
>>
>>46375583

Or have a knight from the vale pledge loyalty to Isis, to be her sworn sword?
>>
So I have a question dad. Why can't we use Isis' scars and shit as a justification for her to stay with Lysa at Kingslanding?
>>
>>46375583
First of all. Why would they even let one of their bodyguards go with her. Secondly, he will just have an accident.
>>
>>46375330
>>46375476
Fuck it, second on this. At least Tully's offer is less insane then staying in Redward's fief when the annulment is announced or being kidnapped while heavily pregnant to fucking Dorne
>>
>>46375583
That would have its own costs to arrange, I'm sure, and I'm not sure Lysa would take very well to "no I don't trust you with my kid how about you just leave a bodyguard with her?"
>>
>>46375583
You certainly could, you'd need to pay the man off to be certain, and keep it underwraps so Royce doesn't suspect anything. A sworn sword isn't entirely uncommon. He'd likely only be so good, but if he had connections to the Arryns or Tullys it would make Royce think twice.
>>
>>46375611
We can. But Lysa want something in return. She doesnt want to just give us a favour.
>>
>>46375579
There is shitty and then actively choosing the option most likely to get Isis killed.
>>
>>46375476
At least voice the option. That would need our uncles approval. It at least negates allot of our problems if we could pull it off.

>>46375583
I would back this plan. It keeps Isis safe as much as possible even in the bastards keep. The guard can't just be offed, and can easily bear witness to red fucks idiodicy, stopping some of the abuse.
>>
>>46375681
>I would back this plan. It keeps Isis safe as much as possible even in the bastards keep. The guard can't just be offed, and can easily bear witness to red fucks idiodicy, stopping some of the abuse.

And why the fuck would Lysa Tully agree to that ?

Secondly, why would Redward allow it ? It is his keep and he can say who comes and goes, as is his right.
>>
>>46375613
>>46375623

yes, an "accident". A knight from the vale, sworn to House Arryn, Hand of the King, having an 'accident'.

Like a castle burning down when Arryn hears of this accident.

It would be in Royce's best interest for the knight not to have this accident.

And it would basically tie Arryn's hands if we can convince tully of this. It would force him into a position of saying "Hey, don't like this cunt".

It would force Arryn to pick a side, especially if we do it through his wife.

Its a political gamble, since we basically force Arryn, through his wife, to almost openly back us against Royce, but at the same time costing brownie points with Arryn and running the risk that Arryn might do something to negate that patronage.
>>
Lots of opinions, dangerous no matter what you do. A vote then, which plan is it?

>Lady Lysa Tully, giving your trueborn child
>Lady Lysa Tully, giving your acknowledged bastard, Dorian
>Lady Mellario
>Isis, with a bodyguard
>>
>>46375611
Part of it is we aren't PUBLICLY talking about this is for her safety because then it becomes hard to hide that we're legally kidnapping his wife. He can't really refuse her "becoming one of the ladies of the wife of the hand of the king" though.
>>
>>46375730
>Lady Lysa Tully, giving your acknowledged bastard, Dorian

The bodyguard thing is just not gonna go well. No way i am letting her back to that bastard even with a fguard.

>>46375583
This could work, somebody without connections to our house and that is firmly in Arrys boat and is known to have trust of Arrys. Bodyguard would just follow Isis to everywhere, he doesn't need to see what is happening in keep proper if the redfuck is concerned.
>>46375730
>Isis, with a bodyguard
>>
>>46375715
Because Lysa can be bribed with the victory of this shitty little title. Its less politically problematic, and we can veil it under the current bandit threat.

Redward does not have the political capital to dismiss this knight, and no plausable reason to do so.
"Its my wife" does not carry much weight when your shown a failure as a guardian of your own damn lands.
It can also be put under:
"The hands man, Lord Malroy has expressed concerns about the current bandit problems in the neighbouring land, and out of concern for his sister, has asked for a guard from the presigious household of the hand himself to act as guardian for her safety until said problem has been resolved. Not to dismiss the abilitys of lord redward in his own castle of course."
>>
>>46375799
The thing with Dorian is it would need to be very soon, as we have to raise that child and give him an education.
>>
Brynden "motivation: family" Malroy evidently going to deliberately tear away his son from the kids mom to hand him over to a noted unstable woman who will be pissed as shit about getting stuck with him
>>
>>46375730
>Isis, with a bodyguard
>>
>>46375842
And Redward can go "Lol no. I already got my own guards. Now feck off!"

He will then beat her when he leaves.
>>
>>46375730

I'd call out the sudden influx of dorian, but I don't care.

Gave this ample time.

Acknowledging Dorian it is.

I want everyone to understand, that this is going to have some downsides. I outlined such last thread and on my Ask. The entire situation is going to be Brynden playing the game again. And such things have long lasting and reaching consequences. More immediately, Dontos' response. But you do what you must to protect family.

That being said, there wasn't a right answer by my eye. I purposefully made this difficult, and you guys have dealt with as civilly as I could hope for.

I mean everyone knows what I think.

If we attempt to annull Redward's marriage, the conflict with him will come to a head, and he will be desperate to do anything he can to hurt us.

Isis is right, the bandits in the Princewood are Royce's arm, and if we send Isis to King's Landing he WILL try to use them to get back at us when we go to clear the place out.

But the crux of the matter is that in this scenario, we would have the initiative. We would know he's going to do all he can to fuck us, but at least we control the situation, and our sister would be safe.

If Isis is in Redward's hands when he hears about our plans to have his marriage annulled, Isis is as good as dead. I don't want to sugar-coat it because it's a fact that we have to face up to, and i'd rather face up to it now while we have the capability to save her than later when we're having to make arrangements for her funeral.

As regards the child thing, I think we should not risk offending the Arryns by offering them a bastard. We're twisting their arm into this enough as it is, it would not do to insult them.

Obella will forgive us. A marriage is not about doing everything your partner says. This is a perfect opportunity for Brynden to show some spine without spitting directly in her eye, and having one of our children raised near a future lord paramount is a great opportunity.
>>
>>46375931
Its really fucking weird cause the consensus last thread was absolutely "well trueborn lysa is the least bad"

Well i suppose we could play up our family angle and claim she wanted a child as a freind, we gave her one and that victus is proof we take after even our bastards yada yada ya.

This is a shit option all round. If we do go with the bastard option we probably need to write an apology letter to the hand for it.
>>
>>46375956
And then dad just ends it on us
>>
>>46375951
>I really am.
Not you, Bryden, for the big load of crap he's about to heap on dorian.
>>
>>46375951
Can we get a final vote between true born and bastard? Or is that asking a little much?
>>
>>46375954
>A marriage is not about doing everything your partner says. This is a perfect opportunity for Brynden to show some spine without spitting directly in her eye, and having one of our children raised near a future lord paramount is a great opportunity.

Fucking this, but "It's been ample time" apparently
>>
>>46375963
Jon wouldn't have put us in this position in the first place. That being said, we're making an enemy out of Lysa, who will fuck with us once Jon is dead.
>>
>>46375861
Man all the options have their major drawbacks, one option has Isis stuck in some Dornish the court, the other option is do nothing while getting the annulment while also giving her one guard to watch over her and hope Redward doesn't do something stupid like break the dude's neck and then Isis', the next option is to give away either a trueborn child and a bastard child to a fucking madwoman and both child options have equally shitty drawbacks. Enjoy the shit sandwich son
>>
>>46375995
It's not asking anything, this won't happen for years.
>>
>>46376005
Thing is, Lysa does not really have any power outside of the vale. It'd be more of a case of closing off a potential ally route.
>>
>>46376005
She will absolutely have enough leave to heap loads of emotional abuse on him. Every time she interacts with dorian will have a not even concealed vein of "you're hardly a real person"
>>
>>46376011
>to a fucking madwoman

That's meta
>>
>>46376011
Norvoshi not Dornish mate. Mellario is leaving Doran apparently.
>>
>>46376051
She does it about this time in the books.
>>
So that's it then, no time to figure this out years later when it will actually come into play?
>>
>>46376047
It is and that's why I chose the bastard option inspite of my knowledge. We better raise Dorian with a lot of fucking love because he's going to need every happy memory when he's in the Vale. We can try and spirit him away when Lysa has a full meltdown and flees with Sweetrobin

On this score, using Dorian does mean breaking our word to Dontos and potentially fouling up our Chelsted alliance.

Which is fantastic. Thanks guys.

>>46375995
No. The trueborn option did not receive that much support regardless.

>>46375976
>>46376002
Roughly ten minutes is ample time before samefagging becomes an issue.

>>46376020
Within the next couple of years you'll need to have Dorian acknowledged and begin to have him raised properly. "in years" does not apply to the amount of work you'll have to do before that.
>>
Remember that the fostering will take place in Kings Landing and we can always take him back when Lysa turns nut and flee to the Vale
>>
>>46376090
As someone said, we don't have a lot of time to plan with Dorian. He'd need to be acknowledged, raised in our castle and educated
>>
>>46376118
>Roughly ten minutes is ample time before samefagging becomes an issue.
Normally sure, but the sheer disparity between the vote and all previous discussion makes things REALLY SUSPECT.
>>

And we know he's always acted rationally, logically thinking out what's best for the family and doing that. Yep. Totally. He's never been one to let his faith or his emotions impair his judgement.

I love our family, but shit, Dontos is as True a knight as you can find. He hates this political stuff.

And Isis thinks she's god damn invulnerable and hates to think about us sacrificing anything for her even when she's in constant very real danger of death.

>>46376281
>Targfag how will this hurt our Chelsted thing?
Dontos only agreed to court lady Chelsted with a view to marrying her if we promised him we'd disown our bastard if it was a boy.

We did.

He started to court her.

Honestly, just not sending a kid when the time came would have been less insulting than sending a bastard.

I'm just sort of flinching at the repercussions that will be felt from it if we do.

The Qorgyles will be insulted we acknowledge a bastard so soon after our wedding.

The nobility of the Crownlands will look down on us.

Jon Arryn will hate that we both went behind his back and tricked his wife with underhanded intentions.

Everyone will think we're a class A asshole for weaselling out of a deal.

Dontos might decide to tell us to fuck off and stop courting Lady Chelsted.

And last but not least our kid Dorian will find out that we didn't want to acknowledge him and then only did it when it was to our political advantage.

>>46376612
Completly irrelevant, not to mention he has a job here.
>>
>>46376574
Yeah he can still do that, but remember this is the Crownland and people talk. Though I wonder, if because this is his land he can boot anybody bodyguard Isis brings so should Brynden's be able to do the same with Obella's giganigga. Good luck having a nice night's sleep afterward.

“We are going with Lysa Tully. My trueborn child, someday,” you state simply, “She is the safest option for now Isis. King’s Landing is safe and far away enough from war I do not need to fear you will die when/if the annulment comes through. I cannot risk you there.”

Isis looks down at her hands, wringing them together nervously, nodding.

“Obella isn’t going to be pleased Brynden,” Dontos remarks leaning back and scratching at the gray in his temples, “The Dornish are not going to like you throwing in with the Hand again after what they did to you.”

“Neither are you if you need to be the deciding vote on the Queen of Love and Beauty. I trust you can speak with Ser Bennard Brune regarding such?” you ask, attempting to put humor in your voice, receiving a nod in affirmation. And attempting at least for the moment to ignore the truths he told you otherwise.

Isis stands up suddenly and walks over to her mirror, crossing her arms and wiping a tear from her eye, “You shouldn’t have to sacrifice a child for me Brynden. Or her happiness. I’m okay on my own. I-I can do it. Seven why don’t-”

Dontos had moved up behind her and wrapped his arms around her, the little girl you remembered as your sister finally coming back. She buries her face in your Uncle’s chest, pounding against it weakly with her fists. She was a fiercely independent woman, you knew that, and use to getting her way to boot. The past few years no doubt hardened that portion of her, it was all she had for months after the Rebellion. It would be difficult to convince her to trust in you again, you didn’t exactly have the best track record over the years. Time heals all wounds but now, this was the most difficult of it all. You sigh, gathering yourself to your own feet and join them in the embrace.

---
>>
Isis and Victus walk to your side, Victus holding his aunt’s hand as you walked. She had asked to visit with him after your chat earlier. You were on your way to see Lord Eustace Brune, after putting him and the Crackclaw Point Lords off for so long you decide it for the best to finally see that the Alliance is done and in place. Dontos had broken off before you arrived, needing to finish his morning routine and ready himself for the second day of the Tourney. You tilt your head to the side when you notice Wesley standing outside the door, pacing back and forth with a slight limp.

“Wesley? Is that you?” Isis asks suddenly aware of your cousin.

“Isis, Seven above, I apologize for not seeing you earlier. I-I had business to attend to. And bloody hell, the Tourney and the wedding. I’ve barely had time to talk to anyone. Lord Brune wants to talk about the betrothal and-and… Hello Brynden. I’m sorry Isis please, allow me.”

“Betrothal?” Isis asks very suddenly and you pause alongside her.

“Ah. Um… Yes. I am to be married to Lady Cassana Brune. Brynden knew it was for the best, for the Alliance. We just got done speaking of it.”

Well. That was one less thing you need do to assure the Alliance was secure, but it shocked you nonetheless, Wesley hadn’t ever been this type before. To take matters into his own hands, hell before when you spoke of it he thought to do it only by your bidding, rather than anything else. Your cousin smiles at your weakly, “Good to see you Brynden. When you have a chance after the Tourney, there is something I’d like to talk to you about and for you to see.”
>>
You nod and allow your cousin to pass, Isis looks at you oddly but you wave it off for the moment. Best she didn’t know if you suspected it to be the weapon’s cache that was en route to Royce. Your sister leaves off soon after your son in tow, and you push through to the private room where Lord Eustace Brune sat, his daughter by his side, she was plain but pretty in her own way. Not beautiful, but political.

“I had thought perhaps you had second thoughts regarding the Alliance we offered you Lord Malroy,” Eustace says, not getting up from his seat to greet you. He was a tall man, built like a tree, stocky and full. Still in his prime as a Lord and a man.

You sit across from him and see the papers that Benjin had written up for you to sign before the end of the Melee. As you glance over them you note all of the Crackclaw Points Lords and Knights having signed it already, Wesley as well, a single spot being left for your own name. You look up at him, “No my Lord. Merely busy, as I hope my squire explained, there are quite a few that wish my ear.”

“No doubt Lord Malroy,” Eustace draws out, “A shame I hadn’t known of your bachelor status before, I would have offered my Cassana. Though I suppose Ser Wesley shall do, despite my reservations. Lord Malroy I will cut to the chase, I am here to see you sign this. We wished for you, and only you yet we here are, you signing last. Not to mention, no word of your supposed improvements you intend to begin building.”

“Lord Brune, you must understand now is a difficult time for my House and-”
>>
“Not as I have heard it Lord Malroy, you make promises to build roads and trade centers in our towns. As if wealth flows from you like the Lannisters themselves. This document is as much a contract as it is Alliance, the Point has expectations my Lord. If you cannot live up to these promises within the next six months, the Point will withdraw their offer. Lord Clarence and Ser Dustin think we weak and unable. I doubt that Lord Malroy, we have handled the Celtigars before. Now will not be any different.”

You frown slightly and look to the document before you. Lord Eustace did have a point, these were your plans and thus far no money has gone towards them, even without the document signed. You reach for a quill and dip it in ink, hovering over it for a moment in thought.

I mean if he trust us so little he sounds like a shitty ally
>>
>>46377620
I'd rather blame it on sellswordyness, never do shit until the contract is actually signed, still adapting to bring back in proper civilization.
>>
>>46377696
That's not a bad call. Still, I thought we only wanted our enemies to think we were an irresponsible sellsword.
>>
>>46377484
Sign with no argument
This is Padre fucking around with us for talking big
>>

todays freinds, tomorrows enemys. etc.

Really it just allows us to be a touch unpredictable, which has saved our life on occasion.

>>46377756
Eh, we also kept putting off talking to them about it this whole time until Wesley went and did his part solo and then they came after us.

Yeah, we had a bunch of shit on our plate but we still kept kicking it down the priority ladder. They can't be too happy about that
>>
>>46377733
Well in a way this is choosing between appearing to be a responsible sellsword or an irresponsible lord.

>Eh, we also kept putting off talking to them about it this whole time until Wesley went and did his part solo and then they came after us.
I'm fine with them being pissed about putting off these days but they prepared the alliance as a contract to cover their ass.
I mean it's like we put something in there about the alliance being mandatory on their part for some years after we build the infrastructure as a cover on our investment...

Also we need to speak with Wesley

salty, even, as expected from ladies from the Vale

You put ink to paper, Lord Brynden Malroy of Steadhold. And look up to Lord Eustace Brune who isn’t giving you particularly much regarding his mood, his voice hadn’t risen at all, nor taken tone. Simply firm like your Uncle when he disapproved of your actions. Placing the quill back you salt the document yourself before moving to the second and repeating, the third and fourth, and so on. The same edict for all Houses involved, a sign of alliance. When you’re finished you lean back and twirl the quill in your hand. Lord Brune looks over the documents and finally cracks a smile.

“They had told me you were a hard sort Lord Malroy,” he says, “Be firm with him and he’ll respect that much more. At least what rumors we heard of you upon the Point at least, sellsword this and that. Rubbish the lot of it. You’re a man of honor Lord Malroy. I can see it in you.”

Tilting your head to the side you respond, “Kind of you to say Lord Brune.”

Eustace waggles his finger at you, he couldn’t be more than 35 you think, “No it is an accurate judgment of character Lord Malroy. Sellswords don’t come through on their contracts until they are signed, and sometimes you need to haggle with them a bit to make sure they know what’s good but they’ll treat you well afterwards. Hm?”

“Hm,” you respond in a flat affirmative. Suppose a bit of being a sellsword worked in your favor. Even though it was more you had purposefully ignored the potential alliance for other things. You could take that knock if it meant things worked out in the end.

Lord Brune laughs, and stands up, reaching across to shake your hand, “Good to know I haven’t lost my touch then Lord Malroy. You sellswordy types are so hard to peg, but I got you. I expect to see your… ‘Caravansei’, begin within the next few months my Lord. Good day, and best of luck with your Tourney.”
>>
Eustace Brune leaves off a moment later and you are left sitting in the room alone, not entirely sure of what just happened. Rising from your seat you decide it best to find your wife, and attend to the beginning of that day’s Tourney.

“Warrior give me strength,” you say, placing your helmet upon your head.

“Ser Dontos?”

“Yes squire?”

“It’s time Ser,” your nephew’s son says, smiling at you brightly, gathering what he could carry as you mount Penance. Time for another day of jousting, upstart boys attacking a crack at yourself. A sad attempt in truth, only one had even come close to dismounting you the day prior, at least today, you had Lords and first born son’s for competition. The crowd rallies as you trot onto the grounds and into very. The Black Knight, they yelled. A name you still disliked to an extent, you were meant to be a knight clad in white.

Making your way to the grandstand you see a challenger having come before you already, standing in your place. Wearing a shield of House Chyttering. Ser Cyrus. Finally having stopped his cowering and come to make good upon his challenge for Lady Chelsted’s hand. The thought of tracking the man down set your stomach in knots, better he come here and you finish your part of your promise with your nephew.

“SER DONTOS MALROY!” Ser Cyrus yells across the yard as you approach, “I CHALLENGE YOU-”

“I know why you’re here you blathering idiot,” you snap back, “It is accepted by my Lord’s permission.”

Brynden waves his hand, smiling as he did whenever he knew a man walked to his death.
>>
The herald is informed, and begins to make the announcements, a duel to first blood to open up the day’s events. The Dornish should enjoy that at least, anything to help your nephew’s case at the moment. You take you place, calming Penance with your free hand before Victus hefts your lance into your hand. Ser Cyrus across from you, his horse hardly under his control. The crowd his begun to chatter excitedly. A show as it was in King’s Landing.

“Dear Father, let your light see justice today.”

The flag drops. Your heart quickens. Boots press into Penance and you are off. Racing towards Ser Cyrus, to finish this ridiculous thing and finally gain your nephew the ally he so desperately needed.

Attack: Success, three degrees.
Staying Mounted: Success, one degree

If nothing else, at least you still had this. It was not a cloak of white. But it was who you were, a Knight, anointed in the Light of the Seven. You race towards Ser Cyrus, placing your lance just so and locking it into place just before you crash into him. Your lance strikes true and Cyrus is rocked in his seat, barely maintaining his balance holding on by his legs. Though at least you think as much, his own lance had struck you blow just as mighty and well placed, and for a moment you feel as if you were going down, your chest ached from the blow and you could feel the dent in your armor from it. Ser Cyrus was a Knight well and true, but not so good as to dismount you in a single pass.

Pulling yourself up and back into your saddle you round and regain your composure, a squire is there with another lance and you heft it into place. Rolling your neck before focusing upon your opponent. Ser Cyrus looks worse for wear after that round, his armor not near as well crafted as your own. They raise the flags again and you ready, digging into Penance as soon as it is dropped. The horse hardly utters a noise to your urges, being use to the pressure now. Your eyes remain fixed, focused upon Ser Cyrus, this time he would fall.
