Hungry Hungry Iron Warriors Edition
Opening Day aftermath Sub-Edition
Oi, you gitz, did we cover every aspect of the Opening Day? In the last thread we discussed FW's policies and how they keep the world afloat by shafting IWfags, the new date for Inferno and what the Imperial Pillar Men are getting was discussed, we explained why you can't make a Jetbike using Land Speeder parts, we explained a few things and there was also some EC fluff arguments plus much more in the last thread >>48322648

The generic design of the helm looks nicer to me, after filing down the horns and green stuffing the holes they have a nice generic sleek look, sort of Greek/Roman.

Something about seekers having heavy shots doesn't sit right with me, their fluff describes them as fast moving, close range marksmen who don't have the advantage of being able to stay still and line up shots like a sniper does.

And yet one of their ammo types means they have to stand still and line up shots

Not complaining about ranged AP2 though
>>
>>48328665
I don't see anything about them being some fast moving run and gun types. Their entry says they identify enemy personnel and take them down with precision shots in the middle of a battle, though they lack the luxury of range like recce squad snipers.

You're right, that wasn't worded in the best way, but I think you're also missing the point here
>>
>>48329133

The only thing top quality about Mk II was the armor plates, which weren't even good enough as Mk III's existence proves. The cabling was far too massive and the power plant was far too primitive. This is why Mk IV improved all of those things, and added better sensors to boot. The only thing Mk IV couldn't replicate was the complicated armor rings.
>>
>>48329382
I get what you mean, but officers and vets would still have first access to the new gear. Sure some might not take it, but some would, especially in legions like the EC that care too much about aesthetics. Since I play EC I use them as the base for most of my comparisons. Sure Iron Warrior and Fist vets might have Mk II or III but EC with their love of art and aesthetics might take the Mk IV because "this armour is totally fabulous."

>>48329492
>Sure Iron Warrior and Fist vets might have Mk II or III
On the IWs side, that's because they probably wouldn't even recieve a resupply. But DG, IW, IF and probably Sallies wouldn't care much about MkIV, considering MkIII lasts enough and their battle tactics need heavier armour over mobility

and for fucks sake thin your fucking paints
>>
>>48330434
Perturabo.
>>
>>48330305
Alright, step 1:
Go to Warhammer TV and look at their painting guide for the Sons of Horus.
Step 2:
Purchase equipment and things you'll need, like brushes, paints, moldline remover (the back of a honby knife is useful for this, though I just stick to GW's moldline remover), clippers to remove things from the sprue, and some other things. Keep in mind that you'll need to be extra careful with resin as resin dust is a carcinogen. Ask around for the stuff you'll need to work with resin.
Step 3:
Assemble your models, take care to remove moldines, dryfit them before gluing, and if there are parts that would obscure things, such as the arm holding the bolter covering the chest, leave those unattached and paint them while they're seperate. You can glue them on once you're finished.

I might be forgetting somethings, but I'm a bit tired right now, sorry. Remember that only the FW parts are resin. Everything in the BaC box is plastic.

Oh, and another tip is THIN YOUR PAINTS. Post your first model on here and the /wip/ thread so we can bully you to get better. That's all I can think of for now.

like 'how to paint sons of horus' and look at as many guides as you can find, find the color you like the best, and do what they did.

if you like the color in the video then go for it, but i know for some of their videos the colors are total shit.

I bought the Sicaran Venator and the only warped part was the floor because of how thin it was. I used copious amounts of hot water and fixed it though. Just dry fit everything before thinking.

The Accelerator Autocannon looks like it's guaranteed to bend with the season and shipping. again, lots of hot water should fix that.

The only thing I hated on the kit was the sprue holds on the top part. They're humongous blocks strutting the part to the sprue that damn near require a jeweler saw and some files to remove.

The Great Crusade was only 2 centuries old when the Heresy broke out.
This is my whole problem with the entire heresy, the time from the Emperor reveals himself to being interred on the throne seems way too fast. IMO it should be something like

>>
>>48331560

The Heresy is supposed to be an utterly catastrophic event that almost causes the Imperium to collapse, worse than anything that followed in the next 10,000 years. It pretty much has to be relatively brief compared to 40k wars and the Crusade; if the Imperium could survive being in this apocalyptic civil war for over a century it must not have been all that bad. That's just the normal 40k state of affairs.

>All the forumware stuff I have already is 8mm so I'm not too bothered by the bump up from 6mm.

HH forumware marines are 8mm tall. In 8mm scale, that would mean they're the height of an average human male. They'll be on the small side but might be passable. HH forumware vehicles and titans are all 6mm scale and will look small.

I have a ton of OG Epic stuff, so I'm fucked.

I might still get new-AT, but only for small scale titan-on-titan combat. The prices will probably keep me from expanding much. As we worked out in previous threads, an 8mm Warlord should be almost as high as a 40k knight (as tall if you count up to the top of the 8mm Warlord's carapace-mounted weapons).

on sources:
HH Book 3 has a few IF and IW ship profiles. And there's that Macragge's Honour comic book. In it, the UM ship looks like a Battlefleet Gothic Emperor-class ship except with an armored prow, and the WB ship is a BFG Battle Barge. Visions of Heresy also has ship pictures and they mostly look like BFG Imperial Navy classes.

real answer:
Most of the ships, especially capital ships, that you see in BFG were around in 30k. The Imperium and Astartes had a mix of 40k Imperial-style ships with beak prows and 40k Chaos-style ships that look like daggers held flat.

The ship fluff is all half-baked, even in the BFG rulebook itself (e.g. the Armageddon-class battlecruiser is described as being based on the Acheron-class when they look nothing alike and the Armageddon is really a Lunar with two lance turrets on top). In HH fluff, including the FW books, every legion seems to have a Gloriana-class battleship as their flagship. That's a class that was made up for 30k; it isn't mentioned in 40k/BFG. Which is fine, but HH Book 3 shows an Iron Warriors Gloriana-class ship that looks like a bulkier Space Marine battle barge while every other depiction of a Gloriana-class ship has it looking more like an Imperial Navy battleship. I think it means no one's really thought this through.

Calas Typhon's ship, the Terminus Est. In the real-life timeline, the model was released as a "special character" based on the Chaos Despoiler variant and featured in the 2003 Eye of Terror campaign. In 40k it's 100% Nurgly.

The BFG fluff has the Despoiler-class battleship as having been invented in M36. Oops. So they retconned it and said that the Despoiler-class was based on old blueprints they'd found for the Terminus Est, which was unique when it was built in the Great Crusade. Never mind that the other Chaos battleship class, the Desolator, has the same main hull and "dates back to the very founding of the Imperium."

(Interesting that they were designing Chaos-looking ships in M36, given that those shapes are assumed to make ships prone to Chaos corruption. That's their reasoning for giving the two sides different-looking ships.)
>>
>>48331677
For one thing, standardisation was even less of a thing than in 40k - the forge worlds were more independent, and if a legion force found a cool ship they could usually reclaim it for their legion, leading to many legions having unique and deadly ships in their fleets

That one looks like it's related to the BFG Vengeance-class grand cruiser, which was described as transitionary between the two different styles. Not exactly the same; the Vengeance doesn't have an up-armored prow or prow torpedoes, and it has broadside lances and no "planetary assault petard" (which sounds similar to the bombardment cannons that Space Marines use in BFG). But close enough to be in the Vengeance et al grand cruiser family.

In 40k BFG they suggest that different forge worlds build the same classes of ships with visual differences, same deal as with titans or lasguns. Naturally GW couldn't release as wide a variety as the fluff says exists.

But I'm still annoyed at having no idea what a Gloriana-class battleship is. Class is a pretty specific designation.

The largest ships (after the Furious Abyss and her sister ships, and the Phalanx) was the ~20km Gloriana Class, most of which were legion flagships, and all were custom jobs.
The largest known Gloriana-class vessels were the Vengeful Spirit (SoH), Conqueror (WE), Hrafnkel (SW), and Iron Blood (IW).

For other things we don't see in 30k there's also the Goliath Class Battleship

Fleet-wise, the Sons of Horus, Dark Angels and Imperial Fists had the largest fleets (Fists largest and most diverse of all), with the latter two specialising in void warfare to a significant degree, though other legions also have some notable fleets - all the White Scars ships are modified to be fast, the Death Guard having a high proportion of heavy and often unique capital ships etc.

Hello /tg/, here's the third version of my Legio Cybernetica list that you've been helping me buildimprove. Thoughts?

Legion Cybernetica, 1990/2000

HQ
Scoria, 315
- Xanathite Abeyant

TROOPS
Tech-thralls, 95
- x20, pure thought, caparace

Thallax Cohort, 400
- x8, heavy chainblades, Ferrox

Castellax Maniple 1, 270
- x2, Targeting Arrays x2, Flamers x4, Frags

Castellax Maniple 2, 270
- x2, Targeting Arrays x2, Flamers x4, Frags

FAST ATTACK
Vorax Maniple, 375
- x5, Frags

HEAVY SUPPORT
Thanatar, 265
- Targeting Array

Scoria joins the Vorax and probably outflanks. Rite of the Beast will go on these guys.

Thralls stay back and either hold the home objective or wrap around the thanatar.

The Castellax march forward. With flamers and mauler cannons they want to stick close to the enemy but not charge.

The Thallax start deployed, and zip around looking for proper targets/catching objectives.

Speaking of which, could someone point me to the rules about using RoWs in allied detachments. Like for example, a RoW that says you can't take an allied detachment could you take it AS an allied detachment? Or if you need an extra HQ when a allied detachment only has one slot.
