It's a pretty thick ship. And it's probably more of the mass than the size that's really nudging the Ghost into Sil 5.

I really don't think it's worth getting into trekkie-tier scrutiny with ship proportions from Rebels, one glance at the Tie Fighter is all you need to understand that everything uses toy-friendly proportions.

Speaking of which, pre-Yavin Interceptors, presumably as the "new hotness", and stealing a newer generation of Ys for the firepower. I guess the Lothal (or wherever the fuck they consider themselves based now) cell finally realized they need something other than the Ghost to carry torps.

If it wasn't for the fact Sil5 removes the ability to use a bunch of pilot actions I wouldn't really argue about it. Especially since there is no mods that can restore those abilities (unless one has come out in the last couple supplements).

I think I'm just doomed to have all my favorite ships have odd choices by FFG. Such as the Nova Courier coming stock with two concussion missile launchers (and thus having a high pricetag).

Two missile launchers on a stock civilian courier? I always figured those were part of the Rebel refit thats mentioned in the fluff as part of its Rebel gunship use.

I have a thought; In this image Wedge (If that is him) doesn't look like a kid and in the snippet we get of SS-25 his voice sounds a ton like Ezra's. I wonder if that was actually him talking or if it was an impersonation.

Or the production team got lazy and used the same actor.

>>
>>48316855

Most of them were mashed together using the extra missions that come with some of the larger ships.

One of them i put a 3 shot 0 def, 5 hull 3 shield turreted AI station in the middle of the board with some GM set astroides that were not to be moved unless both players consented to the new position.

you could do a "dock action" with a small ship by flying inside a small arch on either side and take control... The docked ships agit was droped to 0 and it could be blow up or fly off on its own (either way the turret reverted to AI)

However if you shot the turret platform while it was under no ones control it would start blasting the ship that shot it and or the closest ship of that players control.

its writing is bland and its pov is really bad. I was a fan of all the times we weren't following the main cast (we get to hear about slave rebellions and someone taking up the boba fett mantle to scare off crime cartels) but it has the phrase 'The TIE wibbles and wobbles through the air, careening drunkenly across the Myrran rooftops - it zigzags herkily-jerkily out of sight.'
which tells you a bit of the writing quality (though that is notably one of the worse sections)
>>
>>48322977

A lot of people don't like the way it's written (I actually did but I'll admit it's weird). Beyond that the story and characters are pretty meh. And of course there are a few idiots who had a kneejerk reaction to LGBT characters but they can just be ignored.

Personally I think the book was doomed from the start because it's essentially the replacement for Heir to the Empire. It could have been great and it would still have been hated for that fact alone.
>>
>>48322769
I doubt it was intentional, but the Ghost's layout is actually very similar to Serenity's. I'll see if I can dig up a floor plan for comparison
>>
>>48323039
>I was a fan of all the times we weren't following the main cast (we get to hear about slave rebellions and someone taking up the boba fett mantle to scare off crime cartels)

Yeah, I really did enjoy those parts. Coming from someone who did actually like - if not exactly love - the book I almost thing he would have been better off if he'd just made a whole book of short vignettes following Endor. The writing style would probably have worked better for those types of stories as well.
>>
>>48322977
Painfully bad writing, profoundly trash wordbuilding and lousy characterization.
Also the author's fondness for assmangled rants claiming that all criticism of his book is homophobic because he included a badly-written gay character along with all the other badly-written characters
>>
>>48322977
Characters are mediocre, story was mediocre. Writing style was atrocious.
Had gay representation in Sinjir though, and a few background characters. So it's at least progressive, if not good.
>>
>>48321893
It's fine. I always thought the red LED eyes looked stupid on Chiss.

They use a form of facial motion capture on the voice actors to make the character model emote better, which is probably the actual reason for the change, though.
>>
>>48322618
Outbound Flight is the actual best Thrawn book. The Thrawn trilogy is mediocre in comparison.

Though... remember that guy who was Thrawn's ally in court? Mentioned in Vision of the Future as a cunning diplomat and politician? Outbound Flight has him as a man who is spying on Chancellor Palpatine for DARTH SIDIOUS, and honestly cannot tell that they're the same person wearing a hood. Zahn had a bit of fun with that.

>Imps don't missile spam.

Yes, the faction with THREE starfighter designs, one of them mass-production, that use torpedoes and missiles as their primary weapons are less missile-spam than the Rebels, a faction known for its heavy gunships with up to six cannons on its fighters, but never more than two torp tubes on its bombers.

Three if you count the E-Wing as a bomber.

Rebels dabble, but Imperials specialize.

Fluff sets the FFG games during the post-66 and Rebellion eras but the mechanics are period-independent. Replace anachronistic fluff (starship names, AoR's Duty table, NPC and vehicle descriptions, etc.) with appropriate material and you're good to go.

I was going to say: "Well, you can hardly spam those, can you?" But then I went to Squad Builder and realised you can get four bombers with Concussion Missiles, Extra Munitions, Ion Bombs and Guidance Chips for the same cost as six Z-95's with Concussion Missiles and Guidance Chips.

So I guess Imps can do a form of missile spam! It doesn't burn quite as hot, but it sure burns longer.

Holy shit FFG can't even do the math on their own game:
>And the math is easy; if you can fire twice for two dice and two dice, those four dice are more than the three you would get from the enhanced attack made from your forward firing arc.
No! Bad FFG! Bad! Unless you have a way of modifying both attacks three dice with focus will always deal more damage than two dice unmodified (which half of your attack will be.) Worse, splitting your attack across two targets is a rookie mistake in X-wing. You always want to be hitting your primary target every attack for as much damage as possible, which, following FFG's advice and firing from both arcs, you'll actually be decreasing your output from 2.3 to 1.7.

You'd think they'd hire a guy to actually *do* the math before they went saying shit like that.

Backdraft looks good though. That might make the auxiliary arc split fire preferable in certain limited situations. Never on Zeta as they're implying, though.
>>
>>48338806
There'd be too many puns if Quickdraw were a man. He's an ace pilot, but only because he spends all of his time in the simulator trying to avoid his squadmates after an embarrassing incident with those prostitutes on Nal Hutta...

For 88 points: 4 Scimitar Squadron Pilots, each with Extra Munitions + Cluster Missiles + Guidance Crisps

For 96 points: 3 Cutlass Squadron Pilots, each with Extra Munitions + Cluster Missiles + Cluster Missiles + Munitions Failsafe + Guidance Jokaero

Cluster missiles were picked for those examples because reasons. By XWM standards, that's a lot of missiles.
>>

I haven't really done any SW stuff for about a year (didn't like VII), what has happened? Any new X-Wing stuff for Imperials?

I'm also thinking of starting back into an Edge of the Empire campaign, any new stuff for the Dark Times between III and IV?
>>
>>48338714
I think they went with a bit more sluggish of a dial, to keep it from becoming another Push the Limit auto-include. This feels far more like a B-Wing dial, with 3-speed Sengors and red 3-turns. They're banking on this being the first Imperial ship to have an aux-arc, systen slot, and tech slot. Which actually does quite a lot for it... Unlike the Phantom, Punisher, or Shuttle, this is a ship that will make use of a wide array of system slots. Like Accuracy Corrector, Sensor Jammer, Advanced Sensors, or even that nee Collision Detector. I'm seeing some interesting builds with Collision Detectors and Debris as your only obstacles.
>>
>>48338945
Oh it's completely out of the purview of that article. I'm actually surprised they didn't mention it, because that was the first thing I thought whrn I saw his ability. The only other system you could want is Fire Control, but at 1-pt more you can capitalize on his aux-arc gimmick.
>>

>>
>>48339034

> This feels far more like a B-Wing dial,

Yeah, I got a strong feeling of that as well. It trades the B-Wing Speed 2 K-Turn for a pair of Sp3 SLoops, and unlike the B-Wing it has and can make good use of Mk2 Ion Engines, so don't discount PtL just yet.
That PtL + Baffle combo on QuickDraw still works for instance.
Hell, just putting Baffle on her and then SLooping behind the enemy might work Especially if you put Outmanouver (Overcosted as it is) on her, as it gives you 2 attacks on an enemy at -1 agility.
>>
>>48339070
Based on ship point value analysis the Zeta Specialist should only be 22 points. It's probably 23 points just because they're terrified of people like you running four of those guys with Accuracy Corrector.
>>
>>48339023
Tie Advanced Prototype was released (Inquisitor's Tie from Rebels). It's pretty rad, and has green 1 turns and banks. The Inquisitor also counts all of his primary weapon attacks as being Range 1, meaning he always has 3 attack dice and ignores autothrusters.

Other than that, Imperial Veterans came out, giving new life to Bombers and Defenders. Defenders now have a power level over 9,000. They got two titles, the x7 title which drops their cost by 2 points, removes the cannon and missile slot, and assigns them an evade token when taking speed 3 maneuvers or faster. The Tie/D title is 0 points, and allows them to fire a 3-pt cannon and then follow up with a primary weapon attack. Bomber got a Tie/Shuttle title that replaces ALL ordnance slots with 2 crew slots (ordnance being missile, torps, bombs). The only crew it can equip are 4pts or lower, so no super-cheap palpmobile, or gunner. Vader can ride shotgun in it, though.
>>
>>48339034
It's an incredibly dynamic little ship. I really don't see people running more than one of them, though. There's really no reason why it couldn't have come out with the Upsilon Shuttle as a 'Villains of the First Order' pack.
>>
>>48339234
Yeah... 4 of these things with Acc Corrector would be ridiculous, and stepping too much on the toes of the 4 Tie Advanced with correctors, I think.
>>
>>48338913
>And add a crit to anything in his ass-arc.
Something about this struck me as wrong, so I went on the hunt. Finally I worked it out. Accuracy Corrector has the following clause:
>Your dice cannot be modified again during this attack.
So I'm reasonably sure you cannot add a crit after using Accuracy Corrector, and if you add a crit before using it the crit gets cancelled.

Is that right?
>>
>>48339023
>>48339240

Oh, and Munitions are now viable.

No really.

They'll probably do that some time down the line once its sales plateau.
>>
>>48339261
I could see a pair of them for support on something beefier. But yeah, 3 or 4 seems excessive and limiting. Although you could fly 4 with Fire Controls, and run them as an Inperial BBBB list. That might be entertaining.
>>
>>48339335

What does the FAQ on Omega Ace say? I believe that discussed the difference between dice modification, result addition and dice add and removal there.
>>
>>48339374
You can remove dice, but you can't add them. I remember from Bossk, when I cancelled my crit and then my rules-lawyer opponent gave me a shit-eating grin and said: "Thanks, but you can't add your 2 damage BECAUSE THAT'S MODIFICATION NYEHEHEHE."

At which point I called the wandering rules man over and he agreed.

Basically yeah Accuracy Corrector and Backdraft aren't compatible. It was a nice thought, though.
>>
>>48339335
Aww shit, you're right! Acc Corrector does replace all dir results, and Backdraft is adding a crit result (which is treated as an extra die). Well fuck, there goes that plan.

It could still work though as a failsafe of ensuring he gets *at least 2 hits.
>>
>>48339347
Without getting into the value of movement, hull, shields and actions: Each level of pilot skill is worth +1. The addition of an EPT is worth +1.

So a PS1 generic Tie/SF should be worth 21 points. The PS3 generic 23 points. The PS5 generic 25 points (without EPT) or 26 points (with EPT). Based on that Backdraft should be worth 28 and Quickdraw 30.

Which means they've artificially inflated the cost of the PS3 generic by 1 point for balance.
>>
>>48339446
System slots also tend to be worth an extra point, particularly if they're combined with other upgrade slots like torpedoes, missiles, cannons, illicit, etc.
>>
>>48339503

I was wondering if a Firecon on Quickdraw + Missiles + Guidance Chips might be a good idea, but without Baffles, which give a really reliable way of getting a damage on your activation I don't think that combo would work.

Tie Advanced and Tie Advanced Prototypes are two entirely different ships. The TAP is more like an Imperial A-Wing, with an emphasis on Target Locking for Evade. The Tie Advanced is essentially a free system, or +1pt for an Advanced Targeting Computer. Thinkng one is strictly better than the other, shows that yoi haven't even tried to run the Tie Advanced without substituting the title. And lets be honest here, that is the one bad thing about that ship... Having to purchase a Raider to make it not suck, is awful if you don't enjoy the awesomeness that is Epic games.

The Tie/SF is fine. It's a bulkier Tie. Star Wars is heavily influenced by WW2, and it's not like there were dozens of tanks and aircraft with negligible visial differences but major performance differences. Ehrmagerd bad gurm!

Try again, and use dice modification. Focus does a lot to help you, and next time check point values.

Also, Proton Torps aren't really all that capable of 1-shotting a Tie/Fo. In order for that to have happened, your buddy would have needed to roll 3+ hit/crits (or 3+ eyeballs while having a focus), resulting in 4 hits/crits. Note Target Lock is expended to fire the torpedo. And you would have had to roll 3 blanks and have no evade token, or 3 blank/eyeballs with no focus token. Basically it is rare fluke and/or a beginner mistake on your part for not having focus/evade when you got into engagement.

You sound like you have a combination of monstrously bad luck with dice and poor planning. While some ships are better than others in terms of stats and what they can be equipped with, almost any ship can shine in the right hands. Making a bad call in X-wing can easily turn the tables.

Keep in mind you can still opt to use AC on the forward attack (which is throwing 2 red) but not on the rear one (just save focus/TL for rear, good odds of ~2h1c)

Guri with Intimidation and Collision Detector feels like an obvious solid choice, but what about the rest of it?
Kath is there to showcase Tail Gunner, but I wonder if switching her out for a Adaptability - EU Boba-Fett might be a better idea.

Cartel is there because I have the points, although N'dru with Lone Wolf tempting, but the Special-K doesn't have to keep it's distance all the time.

Thoughts?

Guri and intimidation don't really work as well as you think. But it is an interesting concept at the least.

I think Lone wolf N'dru is a better use of the 20 points

Kath should equip the slave I tittle and long range scanners because why not.

I bet you refuse to play Super Smash Bros if it isn't Melee. But it must be an interesting little world you live in considering that Star Wars' has been getting 'new content' since 1999 and still hasn't stopped. 17 years later and the setting is totally dead, amirite? It's like being in the Battletech general thread all over again.

I did manage to hit him once now that I think about it but he had an astromech that healed him right up.

I don't know what I could have done differently. I didn't realize my ships would crumple like paper while his was much more durable. He's much more experienced but when my entire force has basically no room for error while he can ignore whatever I do, it doesn't seem fun.

If I had known Rebels was the easier faction I would have played them instead.

That... is a hilarious idea.

Hey, those are grogs. This is just a rampaging shitposter. There's a difference
>>
>>48341332
I should add, I realize the T70 is more durable than an fo, but I thought it would be more along the lines of my ships can take two hits apiece and his can take four. Instead mine could take one apiece and his could regenerate his shield and repair his hull and had more hull to boot.

That's rather asking a lot I think, that I maneuver perfectly while he can spin around and fuck me in two turns. It took longer to unpack and set up than to play.

I don't regret my purchase and maybe asking how it could be enjoyable is hyperbolic, but playing Imperial must be grueling.

Here's my go with the new SF. Backfire is relying on Predator to make the difference, and uses the EU to try and boost past enemies... or something, I'm not sure.
Ruthlessness on a Defender is great though, and I could easily downgrade Wampa to another Academy TIE to upgrade the Glaive to Rexler if needed.

And before you ask about Vessery, with only Backfire having a TL, I don't think it'd be that great.
>>
>>48341133
I'm not sold on Collision Detector for the Starviper. It benefits so much from either PS 9 and Advanced Sensors (Xizor with Vet Instincts), or Sensor Jammer (Guri). Guri with SJ is probably one of the biggest fuck yous to any low end pilot, or closer, in the game. Omega Leader is about the only Ace that really gives her a bad time in the end game.

I've tried to make a Guri/Kath combo work, but I feel like they both try to be your primary ship, and hog all the points. Kath also like having both Focus and Evade for survivability, which means Atanni Mindlink build or PtL. And if you go PtL, then Engine Upgrade and K4 becomes to go to standard... Tailgunner will probably work better with a Palob Opportunist setup, or Mindlink build.

An idea, is to trade out Intimidation and Predator for Mindlinks on them. This gives you 25 to work with, which can go towards a Kihraxz Black Sun Ace with Mindlink, a Tansari Mangler Vet with Mindlink, or my recommendation would be Palob with Mindlink and whatever turret/crew you want. If you can burn 1 pts somewhere, a Mindlink Palob with TLT is 26.

But that's the trick. His ship, individually, is a bit stronger. But in terms of total stats, your two TIEs outweigh his one X-wing.

A T-70 X-wing has a 3/2/3/3 statline, with Boost, Target Lock, and Focus. A TIE/fo has a 2/3/3/1 statline, but has Evade, Barrel Roll, Target Lock, and Focus. Now, I'm not sure exactly what modifications both of you had. But first off, two TIEs together have two more hits worth of total health/shields over the X-wing, can roll two attacks a turn over his one, and his ship is also slower than yours.

The X-wing is very straightforward, but you'll have to make your TIEs dance to get the most out of 'em. Stay out of his line of sight if at all possible, use your greater maneuverability to out-pace and outmaneuver him (you can barrel roll, he can't), and use your numbers to either keep the pressure on him or take the pressure off your own weaker elements.

As for that kind of damage, there isn't a whole lot I can suggest. For a TIE/fo to get shot down in a single volley, it'd have to be at range 1, your opponent scoring all hits, and you scoring no dodges. It 'can' happen, but that's bloody rare. I'd chalk it up to bad luck, but do remember how you can mitigate damage. TIEs have an inherent 3 agility, so they're slippery, and you can enhance that by using your Focus on defense or using Evade. But the best defense for a TIE is to not be in his sights in the first place!

If scum were to be added to armada, what would YOU give them to make them distinctive/encourage a unique playstyle?

So, a word on actions.

Focus is the general good for both defense and offense action. It is the single most commonly used action in the game, and will always be ideal to have if you can't get out of someone's firing arc.

Taret Lock is purely for offense (barring exceptions), and is a required action for most missile/torpedo ordnance (barring exceptions).

Evade acts like an extra evade result on the die, and can be life or death between getting Ioned. Think of it best as an extra shield for that one turn.

Boost/Barrel-Roll are the two major reposition actions. They can be extraordinarily useful, or a waste of an action. Generally speaking you want to use these to dodge out of firing arcs against lower PS pilots, set yourself up for blocks against higher PS pilots (advanced skill), dodge rocks/debris, add some extra maneuverability to get something into firing arc, or simply shorten/lengthen your distance to your opponent. It is objectively better to Focus instead of boost/roll, if the resulting movement does not change whether or not get shot at or will have a shot. 2 attack die with a focus (for either attack or defense) will always be better to have than a boost into Range 1 for 3 dice with no focus and the possibility of getting shot with no tokens to use.

Bottom line: when in doubt, focus. When you're sure you can get out of arc, reposition or get something in arc. For ships relying on 3 green dice to keep themselves alive, it fucking matters.
>>
>>48341405
Tie/FOs have 4 health each, T70s have six.
Tie/FOs dodge with three dice and can evade and barrel roll, T70s have two green dice and boost.
Tie/FOs have the maneuvers to be more than decent knife fighters, T70s loved initial D a bit too much and learned how to drift.

You either played like a complete retard or got incredibly unlucky.
Or still need to figure out the game and got something horribly horribly wrong.

Stop whining after one fucking game, holy fuck.

Are you sure the two sides had the same total point value? Poe against two generics is overkill.
Were you applying damage correctly? A T70 one-shotting a Tie/FO is not impossibile, but it requires some serious amounts of luck.

Also, >If I had known Rebels was the easier faction I would have played them instead.

The meta right now is garbage for rebels, it's mostly scum (which, besides the jm, got some very nice upgrades) and imperials barely but firmly holding their own against the torpedo onslaught.
>>
I'm not sure about any of this build

Thane: Is this a good build? What passenger should I give him? Is that Astromech a good idea?

Poe: Is Sensor Cluster and upgrade too far?

Biggs: Nope, he's perfect as always.
>>
>>48341736
I feel like it's far too early for that right now. Wave 2 had a problem of they normalized their ships. It was basically just front arcs vs broadsides. Each side had an equivalent of the other side's ships. Wave 3 and 4 (which might as well be just called wave 3) are just now starting to make both sides unique with shit the other will probably not be able to get an "equivalent" of. We need another wave or 2 of shit like that to spice up the game before we start talking about a third faction that plays differently.
>>
>>48341440

>>48341835

>>
>>48341537
I'm aware of that. What I meant, was run Kath with Opportunist and Tailgunner, and have Palob out there. Use Palob to swipe a token, while Kath shoots from her rear arc, eats a stress for +1 die, and Tailgunnes them down an agility. End result is upwards of 6 dice at Range 1, versus unmodifird 2 green. Focus is preferred to have.

Is it possible to even get both on a T70? Were you even playing equal points level? desu senpai, it sounds to me like your problem is your friend, not the game.

Which I found surprising given that the film literally has Finn sit in the gunners seat blowing things up. I'm guessing that they wanted to differentiate between it and the ARC-170.

Probably for balance purposes.

I wish this was true. My local scene has gone to hell. The more fun players dropped out but the hardcore crybabies that made me ditch magic and run "only the meta" are all that is left.
