Half-Elves
Dragons, elves, and orcs stand against us--dragons and elves joined in an immortal alliance by a marital alliance among their royals, orcs as footsoldiers alternately enslaved or working for cash and social status as mercenary captains.
Only demons (and some half-orcs and half-elves) stand with us, seeing us as the most corruptible race and the tastiest souls to feed upon. We grudgingly ally ourselves, always waiting for the moment they inevitably turn on us.
We grow increasingly pliant to their wiles and blind to their predatory motives as the wars rage on, our society falling by degrees into depravity, until many of our leaders are cultists or demons themselves. We turn the tide, all but exterminating dragonkind, driving the orcs and elves to increasing desperation, and oppressing the half-breeds.
We become the evil empire out of a mix of necessity and complacency. The demons seem to be proved right about us... Only for a new rebellion to form, humans allied with their former enemies, waging a covert shadow war against the demons, with dragon-bone weapons proving vital to our success, and the draconic bloodline of a lowly half-elf ghetto-dweller descended from disgraced bastard elven nobility and human captors proving a rallying point for remnants from both factions.
