This is a book that came out today
>>
Do you want to play a Path of War initiator (full or partial)?
Do you prefer text-only games?
Are you highly tolerant of weeaboo token art?
Do you believe that dedicated roleplaying and heavy optimization are NOT mutually exclusive?
Are you interested in a game set in the bazaar of the bizarre, Katapesh?

If so, then this might be the game for you:
http://pastebin.com/dyRApYW3

There is a catch. This will be a small group with only two players and one GM. One player slot has already been reserved. They are a dedicated roleplayer, but also very meticulous with the rules. You will have to be patient with them. There is only one player slot left.

For more details, send a Skype contact request to: explosive_runes

Continuing.

/tg/ will not allow me to post the full page of the araiguma, so you receive only the statistics.

Araiguma have +2 Constitution, +2 Intelligence, a bonus to Disable Device and Sleight of Hand, and a wilderness survival benefit.

I can hardly see anyone playing this race.

>>48282654

Akaimimi at least have the luxury of a +2 bonus to all Knowledge checks and Augury 1/day, which is a better deal than what araiguma receive.
>>
>>48282999
At least there's a large assortment of middle-eastern animu girls involved in the posts.
>>
>>48282987
If you're doing such a small party you should probably ask your friends. It's unlikely you're going to find a random that's comfortable with that.
>>
>>48283019

>>
>>48283023

Kitsunemimi (/pfg/'s favorite) have +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, a +2 bonus on Perception and Sense Motive checks (good), and bonuses when taking 10 and 20. These are more on par with the akaimimi than the weaker araiguma and inumimi.

These kitsunemimi would make for excellent Dexterity/Intelligence skill monkeys, like an investigator or a Path of War: Expanded stalker (vigilante).

Nekomimi have +2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma, a bonus on Climb and Perception checks, and the ability to reroll a single dice roll per day. The last ability never states that it has to be theirs, so presumably, they could potentially convert an enemy's critical hit into a miss. This makes the race a decent alternative to the catfolk.

This is also the final page in the PDF I had received before everything whites out. The usagimimi can be found here >>48282185. I will be seeking my refund.

Made a Nameer (Akashic Tiger Man) Sineater Guru using Feral Combat Training to bring the pain.

Role Played him as a cannibalistic Luchador who would use a combination of Aerial Nimbus and Coward Boots to catapult himself huge distances to chokeslam fuckers.

best moment was at the end of the campaign when I used Lashing Spinerettes to catapult myself above the jungle canopy to get one last punch on the Fey Queen before she galloped away on her Pegasus. Fucking Crit, took her to negatives, Pegasus had no saddle so she started falling with me.

GM: Well that just happened
Me: I want to Kiniku Buster her on the way down

Elves and orcs (and dragons for that matter) have a large media/cultural presence stretching back to and predating the first tabletop rpgs, of which the porn is a relatively small segment. You can't just call them a fetish race because there are dozens of perfectly tame examples for every orc-on-elf gangbang doujin.

Anthropomorphic animals on the other hand have been almost completely dominated by the furry movement, which everyone knows is sexual no matter how much they claim otherwise. You have an endless mountain range of depraved porn for every tame children's movie, and then the furries use those to make even more porno mountains.
>>
>>48283769
So much truth. Furries can't be unfetishized while elves/orcs aren't nearly as fetishized.

Discipline Focus (Fool's Errand)
Ability Focus (Lock) - dependent on your GM allowing you to take a monster feat
Cursed Razor has a level 1 stance that reduces the enemy's save by 2.
Weaken the Prey works if you have appropriate maneuvers.
Steel Serpent can deal dex damage, plus it works with Weaken the Prey
Watchman's Rebuke makes them roll again; get your warder or zealot to take it and use it for you

>>
>>48284776
As far as I've been able to figure out, making a magic item with a spell effect with a specific number of uses per day appears to use this formula:

>[CL of item] x [Spell Level of SLA in item] x 1800 / (5/uses per day)

I derived the equation from the equation for command word activation, which would give unlimited uses per day and applying the modifier given by the table.

Applied to the Boots of Teleportation, this equation comes out to 48600, just 400 short of the actual price of the boots, probably rounded up because Paizo doesn't like following their own rules very much.

Hey Gareth.

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/path-of-war/classes/warder/warder-archetypes/dervish-defender-warder-archetype

>Two-Weapon Defense (Ex)

>While not all dervish defenders fight in the same manner, most do and all are extensively trained in these fighting philosophies. While wearing light armor or no armor, wielding a weapon in each hand (or using a double weapon), and not using a shield heavier than a buckler, the warder may add her Intelligence bonus (if any) to her Armor Class. She retains this bonus even against touch attacks or when flat-footed, but loses this bonus should she be rendered helpless by any means.

Does this apply to CMD?
>>
>>48285037

Yes. Unless otherwise stated, a typeless bonus to AC also applies to CMD.

Head Pat (Cha)

Check: By extending your arm in a non-threatening manner and flapping your arm and hand in the universal sign of encouragement, consolation and praise you can change the attitude of a creature from hostile, unfriendly and indifferent states to friendly.

Action: Takes 1 minute of solid and continuous head patting.

Special: If you have the Persuasive feat, you may head pat two heads at once.

Special: If you have any way to have multiple arms (from customizations, evolutions, the Multi-Armed trait, etc), you may head pat as many heads as you have arms free.

I don't really have any worthwhile suggestions. If you were playing an actual Barbarian, I'd suggest Vicious- they'll run out of HP way before you, even if your DR does nothing against the recoil- but you're not. You're playing an Inquisitor who wishes he were a Barbarian, and I know jack shit about playing Inquisitors- other than that one of my players tells me their spell list is awful.

Akaimimi have +2 Constitution, +2 Wisdom, +2 to all Knowledge, and Augury as a spell-like ability.

Good for any Wisdom-based class with Knowledge (all) as a class skill. I do not believe any such classes exist in Paizo-only Pathfinder, and in Dreamscarred Press finder, that would be limited to the mystic. Even then, a mystic would prefer a Dexterity/Wisdom race.

Araiguma have +2 Constitution, +2 Intelligence, +2 Disable Device and Sleight of Hand, and a narrow wilderness-related ability.

This race might be useful on a sneaky investigator, but even then, such an investigator would prefer an actual Dexterity/Intelligence race.

Overall, these araiguma are probably worse than the akaimimi.

Inumimi are a Strength/Wisdom race, which is rare.

+2 Handle Animal, +2 Survival, and +2 to saving throws against curses (also applies to allies) is all very narrow. I could only ever see this being useful on a Strength/Wisdom ranger who would like as high a possible a Handle Animal for their companion even while dumping Charisma to 7.

>>48285635

Viziers lack Disable Device and Sleight of Hand as class skills. Psions have Disable Device only as kineticists, and still lack Sleight of Hand. Neither is particularly good at making use of these skills.

Kitsunemimi are a +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence race, which makes them in excel as all sorts of classes: alchemists, magi, wizards, stalkers (vigilante), viziers, psions, and more.

+2 Perception and +2 Sense Motive are useful for any character, and +1/+2 when taking 10/20 is a great boon when using skills. These kitsunemimi are rock-solid skill monkeys.

I'm considering playing an Occultist as a skillmonkey character, with some summoning on the side to remain useful in combat. Starting schools are divination and necromancy, picking up either abjuration or conjuration at 2nd level and the other one at 6th (abjuration would let me dispel magical traps, while conjuration would give me a move-action teleport and a neverending summon).

Basically everywhere I look, people are telling me that conjuration is a terrible school for an Occultist, but aside from the resonant power not functioning at all, I'm not seeing it. Care to redpill me on that?

If you take the Summoner VMC, the Conjuration resonant power is actually a godsend.

Tomorrow I'll have my players run through Fangwood Keep, then hold the castle for awhile until Molthune sends reinforcements. Nekomimi have +2 Dexterity and +2 Charisma, which means bards, sorcerers, vigilantes, warlords, and more.

Nobody cares about +2 Climb that much, but +2 Perception is always appreciated (kitsunemimi have this as well, however).

The real draw of the nekomimi is the ability to reroll a single dice roll once per day. This is not limited to the nekomimi. This does not take an action. There is no range limited. If any dice roll at all happens, whether it is an enemy's critical hit or the GM's d100 dice roll table, the nekomimi can force a reroll, and that can be useful in a clutch.

Monster Tactician makes for a very high tier 3 inquisitor, but I contest that it would push the character into tier 2.

Tanukimimi seem to be made to be "tank"-oriented paladins, oracles, oradins, warlords, or zealots, which is strange and unexpected. They have +2 Constitution, +2 Charisma, and a temporary hit point ability, after all.

I can hardly see their +2 Stealth and +2 Survival coming into play often for such characters. I also do not think they will gain much temporary hit points from their signature ability; a 6th-level tanukimimi with Constitution modifier +3 will gain 9 temporary hit points, which is not that much for the level.

I do not believe this is a noteworthy race mechanically.

>>48285880

That is definitely true. It works out best for the hunter, who can easily gain Outflank.

Wolves do become steadily obsoleted as the levels rise due to CMD issues, and god forbid a wolf companion try to trip a multi-legged enemy.
>>

By that reasoning, 2hufag, anyone who can buy a Candle of Invocation is T1 in practical op.

This is true. I also do not see what it has to do with monster tacticians allegedly being tier 2.

>an Inquisitor with Summoner-level summon monster as an SLA can probably do similar tricks at that level anyway
A 10th-level oracle can Plane Shift the party and enemies using the non-mystery spell known they attain at that level. They can instead take Commune, giving them a literal god's breadth of knowledge.
A 10th-level sorcerer can Teleport the party around. Alternatively, they might take Lesser Planar Binding to call down a variety of creatures, including a mnemor devil that can Greater Teleport the party at-will.

What can a 10th-level inquisitor (monster tactician) do on the level of these?

A 5th-level hunter or ranger has a 5 HD wolf.

The wolf companion has a base Strength 13 and Dexterity 15. A 5th-level master raises that to Strength 14 and Dexterity 16, and an ability score increase brings Strength up to 15.

3 BAB + 2 Strength modifier + 4 Dirty Fighting with a flank + 2 Improved Trip + 3 Fury's Fall = +14 assuming a flank

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1E2-s8weiulPoBQjdI05LBzOUToyoZIdSsLKxHAvf8F8/edit#gid=3
The average CMD for CR 5 monster is 21.8.

For the same investment, the companion could have been a Deadly Agility deinonychus or velociraptor pouncer.

~

A 9th-level hunter or ranger has an 8 HD wolf.

The wolf companion has a base Strength 13 and Dexterity 15. A 9th-level master raises that to Strength 16 and Dexterity 18. With two ability score increases, that becomes Strength 18 and Dexterity 18. The wolf has become Large-sized, adjusting that further to Strength 26 and Dexterity 16.

6 BAB + 8 Strength modifier + 1 Large + 4 Dirty Fighting with a flank + 2 Improved Trip + 3 Fury's Fall = +24 assuming a flank

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1E2-s8weiulPoBQjdI05LBzOUToyoZIdSsLKxHAvf8F8/edit#gid=3
The average CMD for CR 9 monster is 31.2.

Oh yeah, Greater Magic fang for another +2 on trips, so +30 total.
>>
>>48285989
I know this is pointless but I can't sleep so fuck it.

When your level of differentiating T1 from T2 is their ability to cast like a prepared full caster, anyone who can grab a Candle of Invocation gets the ability to do likewise without really trying.

So you have to go to the next level down: the ability to have a tool for most every situation that acts as the hammer which turns your surroundings to nails. A Monster Tactician has that with their ability to standard action summon creatures which have useful SLAs. They also have the Summon Tactics ability, which, once it comes online, eats the lunch of an entire T3 class (the Hunter). A Summoner (and by extension the Monster Tactician), can use the mid-high level SMX spells they get to find creatures that can cast the spells you use to justify the Oracle and Sorcerer's tier. Lesser Planar Binding is the exception, but the summoning feature is a solid consolation prize (and more useful without downtime).

For fuck's sake man, the Monster Tactician and the Summoner are both T2 on the /pfg/ Tier List.

The ranger does not have that luxury, but the hunter definitely does.

The wolf is now extremely likely to trip enemies at this level. But at what opportunity cost? Can the wolf respond to fliers at all? As mentioned in >>48286165, the competition at 9th-level is a roc companion who can, in fact, fly and harass enemies with grapples.

Just wondering, have you ever played a Hunter in a real game or no? Additionally how often do you play Pathfinder.

There's also the specific campaign to consider. The Roc might be better than the Wolf in an open setting, but in a dungeon crawler the Wolf will outshine it. The toss-up between the Wolf and the Raptor is harder to call in such a setting though; tripping is pretty much the best maneuver to attempt, but unless you're fighting a bunch of humanoids it won't see enough use to justify it.

That said, I'm glad I can finally play a concept I had back when the Mad Dog Barbarian was released.

The summoner is not tier 2 because it has its Summon Monster class feature. It is tier 2 because it has that ability *and* discounts on narrative-distorting abilities.

By 10th-level, a summoner can select two of Lesser Planar Binding, Overland Flight, and Teleport for their spells known.
At 13th-level, a summoner can pick two of Ethereal Jaunt, Greater Teleport, Lesser Create Demiplane, Planar Binding, and Simulacrum as spells known.
Come 16th-level, a summoner can choose two of Create Demiplane, Discern Location, Dominate Monster, Greater Planar Binding, and Teleportation Circles as spells known.

The inquisitor (monster tactician)'s spell level discounts are in no way a match for the summoner's.

>the ability to have a tool for most every situation that acts as the hammer which turns your surroundings to nails. A Monster Tactician has that with their ability to standard action summon creatures which have useful SLAs. They also have the Summon Tactics ability, which, once it comes online, eats the lunch of an entire T3 class (the Hunter)
A versatile tool like this places the class into high tier 3, but not into tier 2. The summoner qualifies because it has this tool *and* important spell level discounts.

>For fuck's sake man, the Monster Tactician and the Summoner are both T2 on the /pfg/ Tier List.
Said tier list was never a /pfg/ community consensus. The community consensus would be the SurveyMonkey tier list survey, which assumed no archetypes.

You are absolutely correct. I have made a fool of myself in that regard, especially when there were other pouncers. My point on opportunity cost for spells still stands, however.

A 4th-level spell on a 10th-level half-caster is one of their "big guns," and being able to effectively have more is a great boon.

Take full advantage of the fact you get Bard spells for the enchantment trigger: getting the ability to Quicken spells like Lesser Confusion, Lock Gaze (if your friends can take advantage of concealment), Dazzling Silver (immediately pop for save vs. Blind), and Unnatural Lust.

A fun thing to do is combine Shadow Trap with Unnatural Lust to completely rob a target of at least two turns (one turn to make out with their shadow, one to remove the shadow tag). With Hexcrafter, you get Evil Eye + Cackle to tank enemy saves, Slumber and Flight because fuck you and can still throw Intensified Snowballs at people (which if they fail their save, triggers Charmstrike).

Your Spell Combat becomes either defensive (Vanish or Invisibility) or a way to set up a Save or Suck (learn to love Color Spray like a waifu).

I disagree on the raptor. Riding on the animal makes using teamwork feats easier. If an enemy is in melee range of the animal companion, it is in melee range of you. That means you are both flanking always. No set up required.

Wouldn't an Allosaurus be the best animal companion past 7th level? It would be Large-sized for riding, with 22 Strength/14 Dexterity/14 Constitution, +6 Natural Armor, Low-Light Vision, Scent, Grab, Pounce, a 1d8 bite, two 1d6 claws, AND a 40-foot movement speed? I can't think of any animal companion that rivals something as genuinely-terrifying as this combination except for perhaps a Roc (due to being able to fly and also being amazingly-powerful).

In light of my mistake, I have come to the following conclusions.

Levels 1-6: The wolf is clearly the best animal companion possible here. No pouncers are available, and the wolf can trip enemies with relatively reasonable CMDs.
Levels 7: The wolf is a strong choice. However, I am inclined to say that the deinonychus/velociraptor is still superior for offense due to a pouncing quintuple attack (possibly augmented by Martial Training), and the roc saves a spell slot on Air Walk (which is not even available until 10th-level).

It would be best for a hunter to use a wolf from levels 1-6, then release it from service and use a deinonychus/velociraptor or a roc at 7th-level and above.

(This is the third attempt at this post. The second attempt involved a bizarre image swap.)

>>48286606

Having a Large-sized space is also inconvenient for positioning. The deinonychus/velociraptor can remain Medium and eviscerate enemies with Pack Flanking, Outflank, and Precise Strike.

You may be right. The allosaurus would exceed even the deinonychus/velociraptor's capacities, although it would still encounter issues with Large size.

Dude, the spell discounts on the Chained Summoner list until Spell Level 6 were only useful because other, better casters could steal them. Very few of them were utility spells either: the ones that clearly stood out were entirely combat (Haste @2nd, Evard's @3rd). As an actual class, the Summoner made (and still makes) its money on being able to shit out summons that had SLAs like whoa.

Each of those spells you list (besides the Demiplane line and Simulacrum) are replicated, in whole or in part, by the Summon Monster list. Hell, they can get at least one Summon (Coatl) that is basically a Sorcerer itself. All of those spells are potentially replicated by a dude with a Candle of Invocation. The point of the CoI is that it doesn't matter one goddamned bit what downtime spells a caster can use to "distort the narrative", because that shit costs peanuts to a double digit divine caster who can just craft a Candle of Invocation.

What actually matters is how well a class can handle combat, infiltration, face work, logistics and utility. A Monster Tactician Inquisitor can do all of those well, and obviate entire T3 and below classes at two (combat/infiltration), possibly three or four with Reformation Inquisition and smart summon choices.

The fact that you keep bringing up "narrative altering" spells and the ones you use are mostly the ones that fuck the game in the ass shows the overall worthlessness of the Tiers as a useful metric. It doesn't matter how many nukes you have when one scours the land. It doesn't matter how many tricks you have to break the game because one trick and the game is broken. Beyond that, there's a game breaking trick better than any T1 class gets, available to anyone for a fistful of gold, so the system is useless even in that metric.

Part of the idea behind tiers is that the use of magic items isn't counted towards them; any schmuck can spend gold, invest ranks in UMD, and break the game over his dick. The idea is that, assuming nothing other than the Physical Belt +6/Mental Headband +6/Cloak of Resistance +5/Weapon +5/Armor +5 standards as your items, classes are compared to each other on what they can do with their abilities. Items like the Candle of Invocation aren't counted towards tiers because, as mentioned, ANYONE can use them. But a Fighter/Rogue/Barbarian can't cast wish, haste, fly, or invisibility on themselves, while a Wizard can.

There is theorycrafting and then there is this.
Tell me one thing, how often have you even seen or heard of a game where there ACTUALLY were dinosaurs? The closest thing to a dinosaur that you could see in my games would be lizardmen or dragons.

Another completely related thing is, so lets say maybe dinosaurs exist. What kind of DM just GIVES you a dinosaur at lvl 7 cuz you tell him its teh bestest companion?
Good luck wasting the time of the entire party trying to first - track down your special animal, secondly training it up to actually be loyal to you. Lets just hope you are not on, lets say, a quest to save the world, would be a shame.

All that aside, I agree with the Large space being an issue a lot, either for a mount or companion.

>Dude, the spell discounts on the Chained Summoner list until Spell Level 6 were only useful because other, better casters could steal them.
They also give the summoner the narrative-distorting tools necessary to qualify them for tier 2 status.
A 10th-level summoner can have Lesser Planar Binding and Teleport for spells known. This plus their Summon Monster V ability absolutely qualifies them for tier 2 status.

>Very few of them were utility spells either
Every single spell I have mentioned in >>48286472 is a utility spell in some regard.

>Each of those spells you list (besides the Demiplane line and Simulacrum) are replicated, in whole or in part, by the Summon Monster list.
Direct me to the Summon Monster V choices that can replicate Lesser Planar Binding (an ally which comes in addition to any other summons), Overland Flight, and Teleport.
Show me the Summon Monster VII options that can perform the same feats as Ethereal Jaunt, Greater Teleport, Lesser Create Demiplane, Planar Binding, and Simulacrum.
Point out the Summon Monster VIII monsters that can achieve effects similar to Create Demiplane, Discern Location, Dominate Monster, Greater Planar Binding, and Teleportation Circle.

>Hell, they can get at least one Summon (Coatl) that is basically a Sorcerer itself.
Couatls can be summoned only with Summon Monster IX and Expanded Summons. A 16th-level summoner has already had access to Create Demiplane, Discern Location, Dominate Monster, Greater Planar Binding, and Teleportation Circle.

>replicated by a dude with a Candle of Invocation.
Anyone with a Candle of Invocation is already tier-list-breaking, so I fail to see your point here.

A Candle of Invocation taken to its fullest extent would also obsolete Summon Monster. Even without any loops, a single Candle of Invocation allows for the gating in of a single noble djinni, which in turn grants three Wishes, which subsequently leads to three Greater Planar Bindings, which means three planetars.

Literally every time someone has played Ebberon? It's kinda a thing there.

Dinosaurs are just like any other creature in this setting. Sometimes you just find them around. Keep in mind androids are a class and nanomachines are a sorcerer bloodline. Pathfinder is completely inconsistent and anything goes.
