In 2004's chronicles, along a collection of other articles from WD and wip armylists, there were rules to play the steam tanks demolition derby and a similar game where saurus fought each other in an arena while riding various dinosaurs; I fondly remember the insinuation that skinks ran bets around the games when the slann didn't look.

In the armybook's background Itzl has arenas as its temples and by canonically having played blood bowl before it becoming common in its own alternate universe I believe lizardmen do, or at least did, play blood bowl as another form of ritualistic competition (like when they go LARPing with softer weapons) in the main universe too.

The idea is to take a a few beads/drops (teaspoon if you're bold) and stir it into a big pot of chili while cooking.

It doesn't particularly taste like anything other than being hot so it's a good way to enhance the heat of a relatively mild sauce that you love.

But also you're supposed to wear gloves and goggles.

Because this is Warhammer, where even the "good guys" are covered in human skull iconography.

We already have sea elves in the form of lothern and various colonies (from latest background there are even elves riding flying fish, but you know, mat ward, 8th ed and all that)

I don't see how introducing another faction could help the brets, unless you're implying the merfolks to be part of the brets army, something I'd see as extremely unfitting.

About merfolks, on top of the legends about the fishmen of chupayotl and possible creatures living in the undersea, we have human mutants: The captain of the swordfish, one of the ships of dreadfleet, was sorta like a mermaid.

I was thinking they should be given stronger French themes, since it's mostly Brittania-themed. Maybe add something that's not so stereotypically medieval fantasy - they're honestly a fairly generic faction in the setting. Maybe include some not!Scots or something.
>>
>>48272013
They're Arthurian based. A lot of the Arthurian 'canon' was established by French writers, and Lancelot himself was explicitly French, so it does fit.

One thing, I suppose, would be more weird and fun powers for knights. I mean, the Arthurian knights had all sorts of weird and zany powers, so yeah.
>>
>>48272022
I still think they could've included some of those legends of France, with Charlemagne and Roland and all the rest. They had a lot of magical stuff (most ripped straight from Greek myth), and the only wizard-knight I've ever heard of. And besides, Arthurian canon being written by the French doesn't really make it French.

I still think not!Scots would be good, or maybe some Welsh or Saxon aliases. Some surprisingly well-trained shield-wall style infantry to make it so that not only knights could hold their own on the battlefield.

In another thread, I suggested they play with the themes of inequality and eugenics more. The social structure of Bretonnia is a product of a eugenics program covertly imposed on them by the elves. This could have some unintended consequences.

One that I suggested was an increased prevalence of "hunchbacks", who are sent away at birth to become monks and relic protectors. The peasants believe they're changelings left by the fay folk, which is not too far from the truth given that they're a consequence of elven genetic tampering.

Unlike people with naturally occurring kyphosis, Bretonnian hunchbacks are much stronger than the average person. This combined with the social stigma surrounding their deformity makes them perfect candidates for the defense of isolated monasteries.

So another horde faction?
I do like the the new towns.
I am very curious about the other factions mechanics. Will the skaven have some sort of Medieval 2 pope thing?
>>
>>48273574
I think that would be a good mechanic. There are the Greater Clans, a few lesser clans and you start as Clan Mors. If you make war on the other clans, especially the Greater Clans, too much without warring on the 'lesser' races the Grey Seers get pissed and call open season on your ass until you donate enough warpstone, take slaves, make war on the surface, etc.
>>
>>48273574
I think skaven should switch the focus on siegea rather than open field battles.

Like, they always use the underway to move so they do not show up on the map, but can pop out anytime everywhere, but only near enemy settlements
>>
>>48273574
From those screen shots it looks like they're going to be a horde with the Orc fightyness mechanic? Could be wrong but they do seem to have both of those elements in the UI.

Skaven are going to be a interesting one, I think they'll make us play as the pope in this case. easier to explain how come you get access to all the units etc.

Alright so here is my adventure plan

Once the Graf and his men return from killing beasties and whatever else, he announces that the forces of chaos have retreated to the middle mountains and are regrouping, possibly for a second assault against a softer target than middenheim while they wait for more reinforcements form the north. Since the party accomplished some pretty good things in ahses of middenehim and touched the white flame of Ulric without being burned, the Graf asks the party to the accompany the war host as they regroup with the remaining forces form the other provinces. He does so because he needs a mostly trustworthy and capable full party along for the ride, as he suspects some sedition among the command staff.

The goal here is to run a mostly military oriented campaign, work with and alongside the Empire's armies, help rally the shattered defenders of Nordland and Hochland, and get a little intruge/chaos cult biz/possibly some adventuring on the side. I figure that Chaos took a pretty heavy blow in the siege, but the Empire is now fighting mostly without the aid of the dwarves/elves/brets and other allies as they mostly took their toys and went home after the big one was fought.

Any tips for adventure hooks or other things to keep it interesting?

Alright /tg/ - tell me about your dream WFRP adventures that you never went on. Scenarios and campaigns that you've either planned to run one day or died on arrival.

I've always wanted to get through the Doomstones campaign as a player, but I literally know no other gamers in Melbourne who own the 1ed WFRP system.
>>
>>48276025
Play with who, if anyone, is a traitor. Also consider that Hochland may be wary of Middenland "rescue," since the terms probably include annexation.
>>
>>48276025

Ideas for a military themed WFRP campaign -

1. Explore the possibility of a Civil War. You don't have to carry through with it, but in such a tumultuous time it's not an impossible threat on the horizon. Play on players paranoia. Make them question why soldiers are being recruited and stationed at certain locations.

2. A death/war cult springs up in the ranks. It's seen as harmless at first - and a common enough site - but before long it's become apparent that, despite always being in the thick of the fights, the cultists never get killed or injured. Coincidence or something more?

3. The supply lines are being raided constantly. It's up to the party to put and end to it. Oh no! The raiders are infact starving villagers trying to survive. What do.

4. After being routed after a particularly violent confrontation, the army accidentally violates a border treaty. It's up to the players to argue their case and prevent rising hostilities.

5. Scouting missions.

Campaign set in Ancient Nehekhara. Instead of your racial options being "Dorf, Human, Elf, Halfling", you get "Human, Pseudo-Undead Human (Liche Priests), Divine Conduit Humans / Furfags (Ushabti), and Lizardmen (probably Skink-only but maybe Saurus too)". Adventurers are things like bringing Tomb Robbers to justice, exploring the routes to Cathay / Arabay, dealing with Ogres and mutants and whatnot in the Mountains, getting wrapped up in (Nehekharan / Lizardmen) prophecies, Priesthood politics, etcetera.
>>
>>48282779

All eventually culminating in a Nagash apocalypse and rising again as Tomb-Princes in the new world, determined to bring back the glory that was.
>>
So I'm doing some RPing, and I was looking around on a few websites for information on Karak Norn but I only found very bare bones information about the dwarf fortress-city. I was going to make an entire thread but would have been pointless for it.

Any other dwarf enthusiasts out there who know anything about the Karak other than the shit I found in the Lexicanum and the Wiki.
>>
>>48282995
The beauty of it would have been that - even in the case of a TPK - the group could always "get back together" ALA reanimation via Nagash's Great Ritual. They all died centuries before his birth? Lolfuckit they were given funerary rites anyways. Were in Nehekhara doing Nehekhara things when Nagash casted it? They're some of the people caught in the open who're reanimated. Etcetera, etcetera.

And while alive? Very non-standard Fantasy stuff. "We're going on an egyptian airship adventure. Yeah, bring the Saurus along, they'll get along great with the Liche Priest being carried underneath that's interred in a mecha-scorpion."

Not necessarily the low fantasy people think of when it comes to WHFB, but if you're going to play in the Time of Legends you might as well go all-out.
>>
>>48271434
I think the big problem is that they have almost nothing to them. Their peasants are kept in a communist/feudal commune, and their knights wouldn't deign to adventure with anyone else, or probably leave Bretonnia unless as part of a larger force. The Empire, on the other hand, has a burgeoning middle class, plenty of peasants who will go travel or go crazy and join flagellant groups or some sort of priesthood or mercenary band, and nobles who aren't afraid to get into the thick of it and become witch hunters or knights or wizards.
>>
>>48283783
What would you suggest to make them more interesting?

Eugenics? Constant peasant revolts/burgeoning class war? An active and very present divine prescence fighting on the side of the oppressors?

That's already hinted at in a few parts of the fluff - my big problem is that there's no reason for a Bretonnian knight to travel, or any real freedom for a Bretonnian peasant to. So they just stay really insular and no one bothers to fluff them out because it's obviously just stereotypical, and they'll never become servants of Chaos or necromancers or go try to have colonies in Lustria, so there's little real depth to their place in the Warhammer world.

>>48284179
That just seems silly to me - it's not like the peasants are that oppressed, just given no real freedom. And the Empire isn't going to treat them much better.

So, hey, I'm looking for a Proxy Varghulf for 9th age, and I was wondering if I could get your approval on a couple miniatures I have found.

Firstly, we have Privateer Press' Circle of Orboro's Pureblood Warpwolf. This guy captures the whole Beastly bad ass look pretty nicely, and is about the size of the Varghulf. My only problem is that it's a bit on the wolfy side, and not really vamprisih, but it fits the size really well. And not only that, but by buying the starter kit it comes in, it gives me another wolf like creature, a two headed wolf, and a Warcaster i can convert into a Necromancer and some other gribblies.

Next up, we have the Goritsti from Wrath of Kings, which is a often overlooked miniature creator, but its sculpts are nice, and fairly priced. They have a lot of big, bipedal werewolf like creatures, but my problem with these guys are two fold: They feel a little smallish when compared the to Varghulf, and they simply don't look savage enough in my opinion. They might serve better as Vargheists, but they still lack the savage vampire look. They are however, ridiculously compared to everything else I've found, with the basic infantry box going for 30 bucks for EIGHT of them. That's more than enough to produce as many as I need or would ever want. I might also get called a furry for using them, however
>>
>>48285691
After that, we have the Mantic Game's Lykanis, which once again, isn't very vampiric. However, it does look more like it, and carries a very similiar pose. With a little bit of conversion work, It doesn't seem like it would be hard to fit on the wings of a Vargheist or even a Zombie Dragon. it is also cheap compared to the GW, but the Wrath of Kings mini's still come out even cheaper. Furthermore, it is entirely made out of metal, which is a bummer all things considered. Also, their werewolves are veeery naked. Which makes me somewhat uncomfortable.

The grass is always greener, Anon. It might not be better for them, but they don't necessarily know that. They might have heard stories of the freedoms afford citizens of the Empire and decide they want in on that.

Then when they get across the border, they are captured and sold to slavers.

>no reason to travel
>being this uninformed about bretonnia
. Read the text in Pic related, they travel all over the world and have been doing so since they've been United. Brets are all about seeking glory and every knight wants to own land. Questing Knights have traveled as far as the Ogre kingdoms, and Knights errant are always out looking for monsters and treasure. There's a story where some young Knights see a "here be dragons" on a map of the south lands and go to fight the lizardmen. Many of the kingdoms in the border princes are bretonnian and still owe fealty to their lords back in the homeland. Many of the wars fought between the empire and bretonnia are for territory. Bretonnians, especially the Knights, have tons of reason to travel, esecially Knights errant and questing Knights.
>>
>>48286172
The former would probably still be eager to be Knights if the Realm, since by proving their worth as Knights-Errant they'd get a piece of land and some peasants. Bretonnia functions weirdly as a meritocracy that way. As far as I know, there's no soft inheritance. So at best, as far as a knight is concerned, the only travelling knights you might see are Questing Knights, or perhaps banished ones.

As for peasants, that doesn't really help matters at all - they just get taken as slaves? So there are no peasant adventurers or mercenaries or suchlike at all.

is WFRP 2nd edition intentionally omiting rules for elf mages? They specifically mention that elves do not learn magic the same way that it is outlined for human wizards (start at apprentice, chose a lore, find a tutor, raise through careers to journeyman and then master) but give no mention about how one would go about doing it. I have an Elf student in the party who wants to go wizard, and we have decided to fluff it that her elf grew up in Altdorf among humans, so it was thematically appropriate for her to use her innate elven gift for magic to learn human style from the Wizards and Alchemists Guild in Middenheim, but it seems kinda hackneyed
>>
>>48290519
Elf mages are omitted for balance and story reasons. They're outright insanely powerful and know too much about the truths of the setting.
>>
>>48290519
Elves don't use lores, for one. They know how magic works and call on all eight winds, they only specialize in winds if they're kind of crazy. Likewise, trying tp use all the winds individually like a Loremaster is crazy too.

So for a player to use High Magic would be really fucking unbalanced, because it automatically becomes better than every other kind of magic.
>>
>>48291035
>>48290992
Makes sense I suppose. Not that i really care, because i am going to do it anyways, but on a scale from 1 to fucking ridiculous how outlandish is it for an Elf to learn and practice magic human style?
>>
>>48291063
Pretty close to fucking ridiculous.
>>
>>48291063
Well, considering human-style magic is canonically a really gimped version of real wizardry, very.

Teclis didn't teach humans real magic, he taught them magic with the training wheels welded on and a chain attached so they can't go very far.

Like the US with drones, APVs, and ICBMs teaching a primitive society how to make muskets and drill in order to fight off Soviets armed with the same stuff the US has.

Hello. I have a question about Warhammer Fantasy RP. Is this the place to ask?
In case it is, here is the question:
How to speed up the combat? I mean, it just feels slow as hell. Maybe I'm doing something wrong as a DM, but it would be nice to know what.
Right now it's like:
MISS
MISS
MISS
HIT
PARRY
MISS
MISS
HIT
MISS
MISS
HIT
PARRY
and so on. Please advise.
Oh and this is for the second edition.
>>
>>48272063

"GREETINGS, MAN-THINGS, I'D LIKE TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT HERDSTONES!"
>>
>>48295140
Are you making full use of modifiers?
Stuff like All Out Attack or ganging up can improve your hit chances dramatically.

If parrying is too easy, consider making the attack and parry into an opposed roll - the defender needs to match the degrees of success of the attacker to parry.
>>
Kilsev should've had a bigger lore and tabletop presence. Then again, I'm surprised that it's still standing, considering whatever Chaos force attacks the Empire usually has to smash through Kilsev.
>>
>>48296578
Kislev has the advantage of Ice Magic being able to piss off Chaos hordes until they go away. So even if they do have to smash through Kislev armies, eventually there will be a massive snowstorm that makes them leave one way or the other.

Personally I think all the human nations should have more of a presence instead of it just being The Empire Show. How many times can it be fucked up the ass but still be called the most powerful nation in the Old World?

I'm guessing the Empire is the most powerful because of size and the number of resources it therefore has, not to mention a strong relationship to dwarves and elves which has made them more advanced in some areas of engineering and magic.

The Empire is great because it is in the middle. It is covered from Chaos by other nations, and also can trade easily with them.

When our group wants to speed up combat (usually when we're at the warband stage of a dozen v. a dozen, any more and we'd probably just use Necromunda or Warhammer rules) we just make it an opposed test.

Each person in the fight roles to hit and compares it to their Ws. The difference in their degrees of success is how many hits the victim takes.

Quick and brutal.

Bretonnia isn't even really that French. Like, it is in names and setting and a bit of flavor, but it's really more of a stereotype and pisstake on chivalry and feudalism than on any actual French stereotypes or people.

Like you could transplate Bretonnia to Albion and replace French with English or Welsh, and they would not seem out of place.

It's not an exaggerated version of France. It's an exaggerated version of the worst aspects of feudal society.

XCOM 2 has a higher budget, but it's mostly just more of the same.

Honestly? Neither.

The Mordheim game feels unfinished and just lacks something of the heart that made the wargame great.

XCOM 2 is just more of the same, and neither versions were better than the original.

>>48308695
I really like to paint old metal models where the character of the miniature was due to facial expression and pose rather than an array of add-ons on the model itself.

It just takes sooo much longer to paint them to a decent tabletop standard. And when considering that they push(ed) a higher number of models it makes no sense to have overly detailed models that will get lost in the sea of brethren.

>>48309899
That's why I like some of the older models - they stand out just a little, but not enough that they'd stick out like a sore thumb among a bunch of other models.

Greenskins if you like rust and metal, but not fur or spookyness.

I'm not talking about Warriors of Chaos and Daemons of Chaos mixing, I mean whatever the ordinary reason for a pure Daemons army existing in the world having a few tagalong humans. I've got an offer to buy some old cultist minis, and not sure if I can fit them into my Daemons army as rank and file.
>>
>>48307428
probably orcs for assembly
bretonnians are the most fun to paint, though
>>
>>48272063
Now I have to get it. I can finally play my army!
>>
>>48285605
The warpwolf will probably look fine (they're what i'm using in KoW- also b/c I play Circle). The undead/vamp-y nature will have to be brought out in the paint job.
>>
>>48311004
you could fluff them as mad cultists who decided to follow the daemons in the realm of chaos, or cultists that are guiding and summoning the daemons to the mortal realm
>>
>>48311894
That works, thanks!
I was stuck on the idea of them not turning into gibbering idiots and being killed, I actually didn't think of them being the ones summoning them.

>>my big problem is that there's no reason for a Bretonnian knight to travel
Sure there is. Bretonnia has more Knights than they have fiefs/positions to serve under a great lord. The kingdom sends tons of Knights to seek their fortune in the Border princes as a relief valve. So there's actually a lot of basis for Bretonnian to be running around the entire world (Perhaps even Lusitaria).

The thing about Bretonnia that's interesting is the way when their social expectations (of living in an Arthurian romance) come into conflict with reality, the kind of double think or just outright obliviousness they'll use to keep their world view safe.

The most amusing tidbit in the Bretonnia RPG supplement was about how Bretonnians consider gender roles so entrenched, that they're actually phenomenally bad at detecting women pretending to be men. Noble ladies pretending to be men so they can serve as knights pop up every so often, and it's hardly ever noticed since people just assume such a thing doesn't happen.
>>
>>48311004
The best way to present them would be as the cultists who had summoned the deamons. Nearly every imperial city has a small convent of cultists who are waiting to flip the social order.
>>
>>48285478
> No reason to travel.

Nigga how the fudge are they going to quest and crusade in their own fiefdom?
>>
>>48313293
Why exactly didn't Bretonnia crusade more against the Norscans? I mean, the Skaven only manipulated them into crusading against Araby once.
>>
>>48313323
Shits cold. I assume it was because they usually only threaten the Empire, a regional competitor. The Byzantines often used Arabs to fight Arabs and even other Christians like the crusaders.
>>
>>48313323
There's little to gain. It's cold, full of monsters and rife with the energy of mutation. Sure there's glory, but glory ain't gonna pay the bills.
>>
>>48313323
>>Why exactly didn't Bretonnia crusade more against the Norscans?
The Norscans are far away, and don't have anything that's really worth plundering.
>>
>>48313428
>>48313541

But they've never gained from a crusade. Like, ever.

Collectively they haven't. But a handful of individuals likely did, serving as an example to others about how they might benefit the same way in the future even if it wasn't likely. That's how the lottery continues to make money.

Norsca doesn't have the bare minimum of hypothetical loot to really encourage anybody to try to attack it.

>>Disliking the harsh, dry land, for it proved too vast and hostile to be properly conquered, the Bretonnians sailed home, their cargo holds filled with exotic treasure and spoils.

If they're anything like real crusaders, then there was a lot of looting going on. Crusades have also been launched into Nehekhara and Lustria.

You also have to assume that there probably have been crusades aimed at somewhere in Norsca but haven't been mentioned because of the little attention that Bretonnia has gotten. The less attention, the less fleshed out it gets.

Mutation is such that everyone knows someone who had a mutant in their friends or family. It's stated to be noticeably more common (with higher barriers of entry for what counts as 'mutant') in Sylvania, Mousillon, and parts of Stirland.

In northern Kislev mutation is also more common, but outside of Praag they are almost all killed. It's very hard for the Chaos tainted to hide among Ungols due to their hags.

Fuck, working on Nagash and he's looking fine but I lost the stupid fucking M-shaped thing that goes on his crown. I've been looking for it for two weeks now, no luck.

Does GW do replacement parts? How bad would he look without it? I mean, I was kind of considering leaving it off anyway because his face looks better without it giving him an artificial angry monobrow look. Like he looks more like a god of death now.

Can't find a pic of him without it except this one, which is lacking his jaw and beard plus the rest of his hat, but you can kind of see it right? He looks more like a skeleton.
>>
>>48314426
Can't find a replacement in the bitz box? I think he'd look fine without it. As for replacement parts I don't know if GW does that anymore, but it wouldn't hurt to shoot them an email. Losing parts sucks and it always seems to happen to the smallest ones. They fly off your desk and get snatched up by goblins or something.

Just discovered this bit of gold in the witch hunters handbook on the calender:

>1550: Luther Mimlinc of Vilenhof discovers a tunnel to the Realm of Chaos in the cellar of his inn. Over the next six months; three hundred cultists are burned at the stake after trying to reach the portal. During the fierce fighting, the building is razed to the ground and in the aftermath, no tunnel can be found. Memlinc admits that his claim was a ploy to drum up business.
>>
>>48315392
Bet it helped the Witch hunters drum up "Business" too.
>>
>>48313125
Maybe I just don't like the lack of focus on it - it seems like there's a lot of fluff about Imperials going all sorts of places - an expedition to get knowledge or magic or trade with dwarves or defend the border or get gold from Lustria. On the other hand, I don't even know if Bretonnia has anything like a magic college, let alone anyone who cares about ancient history or medicine. If it weren't for some short stories that had Bretonnian boys going to learn at magic colleges in the Empire, I would've just assumed they focused soley on knighting.

Magic sensitive children are kidnapped by elves, the males never come back and the females return as Grail Maidens.
>>
>>48316847
A few are sent to the Colleges at Altdorf, though those few are the noble families who manage to hide their magically adept children. And I think it's just the girls, no self respecting noble would dare have his son practice magic when there's a perfectly good lance in the closet.

Generally they try to hide them by sending them out early though, because there's always a chance the fey come back if they're kept in Brettonia.

Also I love how the Empire skirts around the fact that ONLY college magi are allowed arcane magic by treating Maidens and Kislevite Ice witches/hags as "Priestesses" to avoid or at least minimize diplomatic incidents from witch-burning allied casters.

Also, maidens apparently are able to cast multiple lores, which is fucking POWERFUL for human arcanists.
>>
>>48316931
It makes sense as both types of mages are apart of ruling classes of their countries. One religious, the other an important part of the Gospodars who have ruled Kislev since its inception. Tangling with either of them would be like trying to arrest a guest from the Vatican. Though with Kislev it depends on how important that person might be before they do something about it.

The Tzarina's nephew, or cousin I can't remember, was raped and murdered in an Altdorf dungeon. She was okay with it because the guy was a loser and an embarrassment to the family.

Probably the only reason they didn't kill him.

That'd make a good novel actually.
>>
>>48317278
Oh, they were probably in on it.
>>
>>48317325
First three chapters are about the inkeeper. Then the next four are the Witch Hunter hierarchy and protagonist. Two chapters of them interrogating him and debating his fate with a chapter inbetween of Chaos Cultists of Tzeentch recieving visions of it being there and sending word to the other cults via a Daemon.

Rest of the book is cultist-killin'. Tzeentchians realize only the fools left their ranks, all the other local cults are devastated.

Leads into another book with the same Tzeentchian villains.

Do Beastmen rape captured Imperial Soldiers?
>>
>>48317621
It's possible, especially if they're followers of Slaanesh. But then again they're just as likely to dice them into a fine powder and snort them up.
>>
>>48317621
They eat them mostly.
>>
>>48317675
Couldn't they rape them then eat them (Like a certain visual novel...)

I was thinking in the TW:Warhammer Beastmen trailer, that Imperial captain was probaly reaching for the gun so he could pop himself before being captured. Really scared. I would imagine, being raped and sexually tortured would be the worst fate.
>>
>>48317705
It would be a really bad way to go, but that's hardly the worst thing that could happen to you when dealing with the powers of Chaos.

It says in the army book to be captured by Beastmen means a painful and humiliating prolonged death awaits you. Especially if you are well dressed and look civilized.

The last one is a but tricky to answer:
For example I checked "some" of all end times books but only because of certain premises and nothing else
>deus ex machina under middenheim
>winds having certain degrees of conscience
>lizardmen flying temples
>the morskittar engine to blast morrslieb
>nagash resurrection
>settra vs nagash undead war
>malekith being the rightful king all along
>tyrion possibly going mad
>thanquol planning behind the verminlords
>the auric bastion
>the once and future git being revealed as a duo
