Yeah, I was already going to cut out the pages from the spine (softcover book), to get them scanned properly without shitty blurring from where the pages bend up to the spine... I want to get a good scan out there, since the thing I'm working on is a dark-as-fuck postapoca wargame that actually had some damn fine production values! This thing was basically lost to history, ~20 years ago, and I've gotten hold of one of the few remaining copies since I tracked down the designers, one of them having a couple of copies left in her basement storage.
Unfortunately the scanner I've managed to borrow sucks ass, but I think that can bypassed with some GIMP contrast correction.

don't forget to raise the DPI setting- even crappy scanners can make great images, it just takes longer. Last time i scanned people thought i was using some kind of pro scanner while it was a shitty 60 bucks printer+scanner on the highest DPI (so every page took 5 minutes to scan)
