All of these links are redundant, since every last one of those you just posted is condensed into just 3 links in the OP. Other fandexes can be added if their creators are willing to give me some permalinks, or I can start a compiled library someday of all the particularly good 'fixdexes' like the SOB codex and space 0din.

There's also the problem that a lot of your links are BROKEN. You just keep copying the old ones without ever bothering to check if they're still active.

Why did land raiders lose the ability to take dozer-blades?

They had them until the 4e SM codex. Imperial Armor 2 2nd edition still has them as an option on all featured land raiders (including the Spartan Assault Tank).

How did we lose the technology to stick a bit of metal in front of the land raider like we do on everything else? Worse, I can buy them to protect a 35 point rhino but not a 250 point land raider?

The last thread got me into a Black Templar mood so I've got to ask: how do you Black Templar in 2000/16 ?

Do you guys actually take an Emperor's Champion or another named HQ or just build your own Smashfucker ? Any large Crusader Squads on foot or in Land Rairders ?
>>
>>48151334

Because the Imperium is built upon forgotten knowledge. Even at the time of the Great Crusade, much had been forgotten. The scattered human colonies had been cut off from Terra for thousands of years.

It's completely reasonable that on whatever planet the Iron Warriors were running around on, a local belief system formed around the hazard stripes which were found on many of the old machines the colony used. As time passes, the original purpose of the stripes becomes forgotten, but from father to son, generation after generation, the colonists are taught that if you see the stripes, you must be cautious. Over time, this morphs into a belief that the stripes prevent the machine from harming you during its use. It's a quick step from there to putting stripes on all machines to ensure their safe operation. Every time someone used a machine that lacked the stripes and was injured would re-enforce the belief, whilst those who were injured using machines that had the stripes would be chided for not showing proper deference to the stripes.
>>
>>48151607
So then why do land raiders have a one in six chance to break down and become immobile over rough terrain?
>>
>>48151607
Then why can the Land Raider Helios, Land Raider Prometheus, Spartan Assault Tank, and all normal land raiders up until C:SM 5e hit take them? Clearly that wasn't a problem for anyone until 2008. Then only the stock land raiders in core codexes forgot how to use them. Looks like the 6e DE codex still had dozer blades available for land raiders as well, unless I'm missing something.

they're actually decent, more towards a middle of the road balance than 40k decurion/gladius/etc formations, but keep in mind they're designed for playing higher points level games. average 30k game is 3000pts, and that's about where they reach best parity with 40k stuff.
>>
>>48152015
The legion lists are mid-tier. At lower points levels they'll get wrecked by a lot of things, but can still hold their own. At higher points levels they will wreck a lot of things.

So, worse than C:SM but far better than CSM.
>>
>>48152015
Middle of the pack. Generally weaker at lower levels. Top 40k is leagues ahead of top 30k, and I'd be willing to bet that 40k Imperial super-friends could make a scarier deathstar point-for-point than any of the primarch-stars.
>>
Any rumors when we're supposed to get the next HH forgeworld book?
>>
>>48152111
its funny, but locally a lot of the chaos players have gone full heresy and started making legions and warbands from the time of the scouring using 30k as a base, and the results have actually made playing against chaos a LOT more fun since the legion used as the base gives each a different flavor, along with the more flexible of the two auxiliaries lists (I forget the official name, I think its solar auxilia?) used for cultists results in some fun stuff. it also evokes a really great "old and grumpy vs new" feel to the battles.

That said, as soon as they break 2k and can bring LoW units, it can be great with the right matchup. I played Nightlords ft. Curze and a bunch of Terror squads, along with a podded Leviathan and a bunch of ground-pounding contemptors against a Tau list featuring an optimised Stealth Cadre and Riptide Wing. There were no survivors, and i only lost two contemptors and a Terror squad, Curze only lost one wound from a plasma crisis team. The 'Test leadership or flee' thing from curze killing a unit is amazing, since as soon as he caught a Riptide it died, messily, and anything near it turned tail and ran, including the aforementioned Crisis Team.

Easiest time winning would probably be GK with a bunch of Termie psykers. Or, depending on the mission, maybe some sort of Daemon summoning faggotry or a giant horde of heretics or whatever.

They'd still rape the shit out of my DEldar, I think. Plus they'd basically have an entire game phase to themselves unless they were fighting Daemons.

Also, on a different but related note: How does everyone feel about the Eldar, DEldar, and Harlequin FAQs? I missed the last thread. To me it seemed like everything that wasn't errata in the CE FAQ was obvious or just a slightly more helpful reading of the rules. Errata on Warp Spiders was a good idea. DEldar FAQ was okay I guess, feels good to finally settle the (extremely fucking obvious) debate over the 10 pt HQ scenario. In fact, combined with the Trueborn-are-Warriors, that part makes it so the boxed set can actually be useful, imo. Run it with Trueborn, then run a CAD with a single Llhamaean (fuck spelling, too lazy to google) and Venom Warriors, and it's actually useful.

I don't know anything about Harlies so I can't comment on that.
>>
>>48151770
grey knights they're probably the only faction where the relative power of the army is an inverse curve. they're strongest at really low points or really high points, and weakest inbetween where they're let down by high points costs per model and can't rely on LoW/Inquisitorial support to give them an extra push.
>>
>>48152547
Not really, a total of WC2 and shitty prechosen powers means that GK termies are pretty mediocre. Daemons/CWE would destroy them

Who the fuck knows?
Why remove the cover system and replace it with a retarded capture point that makes you invulnerable to shooting attacks?
Why bring back basebuilding only to simplify it to the point of utter banality?
Why refer to your troops as "line units" like they were from a fucking moba?
Why does Gabriel jump around like a Harlequin in a god damn terminator suit?

So many questions.
>>

Some of their decisions are questionable, like seeing demonstrations during gameplay interviews where 3 Tactical Squads all carried plasma guns. I don't know how to feel about that overheat mechanic and if upgrading your squad with Plasma will change the entire squad's weapons or just one member.

>Surprise surprise, it looks like fucking shite. Manages to look worse than DoW 1 from gameplay perspective alone.
As someone who does video game programming for a living, and has worked on some major titles and for some rather famous studios, I feel the need to emphasize that that is still pre-alpha. That is vary rarely a good indicator of how the final game will look.
Often times, models, animations, textures, mechanics, basically everything, won't be done, and many things will be very WIP. Not only that, but many times things can be changed for various reasons, and consumer feed back is a very common reason for change.

In short, don't consider this the finished project at all, but if you don't like something, tell relic, and try and get other people to tell them. I know a couple of people at relic, and the guys at that studio have passion: they want to make good and fun games. If you let them know what you don't like (and are polite about it) I wouldn't be suprised if they decided to change things that aren't well recived by the player base.
>>
>>48152666
>Why does Gabriel jump around like a Harlequin in a god damn terminator suit?
This is more of a design issue than a pre-alpha problem. Its obviously been designed to be less gritty and more cartoonish that the previous games, and removing all of this means reworking the entire game from the ground up. I just dont see that happening
>>
>>48152666
I have been on their forums, and the mouthbreathers who infest that place are adoring this pile of shit.
>>
>>48152666

>>
>>48152724
No. Fuck that place. Interned there for a little while. It sucked. And the pay wasn't even that good.

>>48152697
Of course not everything would be changed, but you'd be suprised how much can change between pre alpha and alpha.
Not to mention that stuff like that isn't as hard to change as you would think. For instance, fixing that could be as simple as adding a couple of if statements. Assuming they implemented it in the way I think they did.
>>
>>48152789
It also means that the effort put into coding the movements (those ridiculous jumps, for example) would be scrapped, and Activision is the sort of company who would think 'gud enough' and just keep it, especially with the knob-licking cronies who like that sort of stuff complimenting them on it
>>
>>48152789
Wow, if satan didn't like working at activision, it must be worse then hell

Now it feels like the asshole cousin situation. You might hate the guy, but he's still family.
>>
>>48152835
Not necessarily. You can keep the move set, just prevent it from being used by gabe while in terminator armor, and then use a different move set instead for that condtion.

And your also over estimating the work that that stuff requires. A whole new animation set might take one or two days for one person to do, max.

I just went "That Guy" and I regret everything.

It was an 1850pt Maelstrom game. My opponent (a friend of mine. An honest, good guy who didn't deserve this) brought 4 knights.

I was playing Ultramarines. I brought a Demi Company, Auxiliary scouts, and TWO Skyhammer Annihilation formations.

Both Skyhammers had Devs with Multi-melta combi melta. Demi company's devs were in pods and had the same loadout, with a Catapratchrii Captain to give them slow and purposeful. My 3 tac squads, also in pods, had melta-combi melta, and my fast attack slot was a landspeeder with two multi-meltas.

I killed his 3 knights by turn two. His 4th was in reserves still and he conceded.

If you're reading this, I'm so sorry. I regret everything. I've never faced knights before. I thought... I thought things would turn out different.

15 Points for a Power Maul or Power Axe versus 25 Points for a Power Fist?

Power Maul: Strength 7, Initiative 5, AP 4, 5 Attacks

Power Axe: Strength 6, Initiative 1, AP 2, 5 Attacks

Power Fist: Strength 8, Initiative 1, AP 2, 4 Attacks

I'm thinking 48 Points for a Jump Pack DC Marine with Power fist is just way too much for a one wound model.

Termie captain has Relentless, not SnP. Relentless doesn't apply to the entire unit, only the model with the rule.

1500pts

Knights aren't scary if you're one of the lucky armies that can drop melta next to them turn 1 without scatter, or spam Grav, or toss D-weapons everywhere.

Speaking for my Orks, Knights are seriously scary. Thanks to the FAQ we now have one way to take them out, and it relies on getting a Slow and Purposeful unit into combat with it and weathering its melee attacks before you have a chance to swing. And it will still get Stomps.

I have a whole list (Dreadmob with Bikes) that can take out Russes no problem. A single Knight can defeat the entire list.

On average, how many Sternguard can a single Riptide (with the best weapon setup) kill in the Interceptor phase?

Because I think the best way to kill Riptides is to drop combi-grav sternguards on them, but I might be wrong.

>>48155187
Best way to kill Riptides? Well you're right about drop pods being at risk, so instead of risking your sternguard just break into his house the night before the game and smash his giant robots. >>
>>48155187
It depends on your chapter tactics really. Raven Guard/Raptors can drop your number of dead marines to flat 0 if you drop to cover on turn 1, then the riptide will be quite helpless. Otherwise it'll kill 1 or 2, depending on your cover.

A Melta-blast 'tide will wipe fully half the squad unless you're running raptors or raven guard.

Well, you need an Inquisitor and at least two four-point acolytes to bring a Psyker. So that's your tax. You have three elites slots per Inquisitor, so 3 total Psykers (+ the Inquisitor himself if you want to spend 30 points).
>>
>>48155310
>taufag can't handle the bantz
>>
>>48155374

Can you mayhaps load the rules page? If not, let me see if I follow:

Take one Inq, unlock up to 3 elites slots. Inq is 20ish points for the cheap guy I think, yes? so 30ish for the unit with no goodies.

Then 3 psykers at 10 points each, and they are IC and can be buried in IG platoons?

total of 60 points for 3 warp charge dice, 4 if you upgrade the inq to psyker mastery 1?

by comparison, AM charges 25 points each, 75 points total for 3 warp charge...
>>
>>48155443

Legions don't really shine until 3k when they can really fill out their bonuses

>>48152118
There's also little/no invisibility in the Legions
>>
>>48155357
Damn. Getting them into cover is really unreliable, too many variables (scatter distance, map type, where the tau places his riptides).

Grav shots hit on 3s, rerolling 1s (either because of Ultra doctrine, or preferred enemy)
Wound on 2s. Reroll 1s if preferred enemy.
Riptide gets a 3++ invuln and a 5+++ FNP.

So I'd need about 15 grav shots to kill a riptide.
At 9" I'm shooting 2 grav shots per Sternguard....

Hmmmm....

So about 9 or 10 sternguard need to survive the interceptor shots. If I'm losing 4-5 dudes from interceptor, I need to bring like 15 of them.

15 sternguard, all with combi-gravs. Two drop-pods (3 if I can get all of them to land at the same time).

Does that sound really cost-inefficient? Feels like I'm back to square one. It's like hitting my head against a wall.
>>
>>48155443
Not quite.

Minimum build:

Inquisitor (malleus, hereticus, xenos) - 25

Elites 1- 18
Acolyte 2x
Psyker

Elites 2 - 18
Acolyte 2x
Psyker

Elites 3 - 18
Acolyte 2x
Psyker

79 points minimum for all three psykers. You're probably also going to be taking more than that--some flamers and bolters for the acolytes, servo skulls, even vehicles (Chimera Heavy Bolters with Psybolt Rounds are awesome).
>>
>>48155462

Ah, ok. Well even if they were it's only 15 points after tax, and I'd lose obsec to make it happen. Not a big deal, I guess. Maybe if I used more scatter weapons it would be worth it, but doesn't seem so otherwise. Burying them in platoons is kind of important.
>>

Servo skulls block scouts and infiltrators from deploying within 12" of them. That blocks certain builds from using their pre-game shenanigans to whoop my ass.

Primaris Psykers are 50pts 2w ICs
Henchmen psykers are 10pts 1w doofuses who are cheap as hell. Im using them to get few dispel dice and maybe get lucky Invisibility. Mostly they are just backfield objective holders hiding somewhere and using psychic scream as attack of opportunity.
>>
>>48155506
Otherwise he gets 4++? Or no invuln save at all?
>>
>>48155491

Thanks for this! I'm leaning towards no, though - the biggest reason for me to take psykers is to cast divination on 50-man units of infantry, and they cant do that from inside a vehicle. That means they need to be on foot, and I'd only risk that if they were IC and could hide behind the 50 meat sacks they are buffing.
>>
>>48155518
5++. Also make sure you stack close to the riptide so that he risks hitting himself if he tries to use the ion accel as a blast.
>>
>>48155517

they block that all game? So I can leave a skull behind my artillery and not worry about drop pods?
>>
>>48155541

>>
>>48155559
Hmm, alright. Thanks anon. I'm going to try Sternguard drop-tactics against Tau Riptides.
>>
>>48155566
Servo-skulls: Servo-skulls are treated as counters, rather than units, for all intents and
purposes. They are placed on the battlefield after deployment areas have been
determined, but before any forces are deployed. Each Servo-skull can be placed anywhere
on the battlefield outside the enemy’s deployment zone. Once deployed, Servo-skulls do
not move.
Enemy infiltrators cannot set up within 12" of a Servo-skull. Similarly, enemy scouts
cannot use their pre-game move to approach to within 12" of a Servo-skull. A friendly unit
arriving by Deep Strike rolls one D6 less for scatter if it aims to arrive within 12" of a
Servo-skull. Likewise, friendly blast templates placed within 12" of a Servo-skull roll one
D6 less for scatter.
Servo-skulls are considered too small and agile to be attacked and cannot be harmed in
any way. However, should an enemy unit move within 6" of a Servo-skull, then the Servoskull
will self-destruct or flee the battlefield – remove it from play.

So on another note, I am considering employing some marine units with my IG/AM to help compensate for some of the weaknesses AM have.

Looking through all the chapters, the first that make logical sense to ally with are the Raptors, which frequently ally and coordinate with Imperial Guard forces in their campaigns (pic related). Most marines, as I understand it, just kinda show up when they feel like it and then leave when they fee like it, not really caring about the larger Imperial forces' efforts.

Are there any other chapters (Salamanders maybe?) I should consider that might be a good fit for working closely with Guard?

Riptides are probably undercosted, but with all the bullshit out there now, they dont look as bad as they did 2 years ago. Riptide Wing is still a bitch move though.
>>
>>48155777
what do you want your marines to do? drop pod assault to disorient your enemy's forces?(star phantoms) go after high value targets with infiltraite?(raptors or raven guard) or be a beatstick to hold of melee units to keep the big guns firing?(I don't really know a good melee marine build sorry)
>>
>>48155777
Raptors are overrated. IIRC most Imperial Firt and especially Raven Guard successor will help out. Same goes for some Ultramarines successors like the Marines Errant, and I think, the Novamarines.

>Marine faggots in a nutshell
You forget that Eldar and Marines don't even need their own superheavy to deal with multiple knights, they do that just fine as they are.

First step is getting rid of the delusion that Marines aren't WAAC-tier bullshit. It is a big step, but facing the truth will do you better in the long run.

>Looking through all the chapters, the first that make logical sense to ally with are the Raptors
>Not the Mentor Legion

How horrifying.
>>
>>48155731

No, I charge, my guys weapons are useless, but who cares, becuase I don't choose to, the tank can't fight back, and it has no Ld value so it can't choose to fail. Ta-dah.

>imperial firt
>should've seen the dave on that guy

auto correct is not being nice today eh anon?
>>
>>48155844
and that accomplishes nothing because next turn the tank can still move and shoot as normal, including tankshocking your dudes infront of it.

Both Sternguard and Cents would take pods, so I will omit the 35pts for pods.

I think 8 Sternguard with combi meltas cost 256pts.

If memory serves, 3 Centurions with GravAmps is.... 240pts?

They both reroll failed wounds if you take the 1st company force.
Sternguard reroll 1s with doctrine or with 1st company, Cents reroll 1s and 2s with doctrines.

Sternguard shoot 1 more shot, and they lose 2 shots per wound sufffered. Whereas Cents lose 2.5 shots per wound suffered.

But in the end, the big game changer is the range for Cents, and the -2 leadership+special ammo for Sternguard. You can get some really good psyhic scream combos with that (but you need more sternguard, at least 10).

It seems like if you're not bringing a librarian, then Centurions would be better vs Riptides.

Thanks guys, I think I understand things a bit better now.

looking them up now

>>48155808
The biggest problems I have are lack of counterassault units and lack of long range antitank.

For the AT problem I was also considering pic related, triple multimelta AV 14 brick full of enginseers to repair itself every turn.

Raptors ARE Raven Guard successors, aren't they?

Sternguard with Combi-Gravs*, not combi-meltas.

It's time to stop posting

you can't, the "our weapons are useless" clause applies to WALKERS only. not tanks.

to ties something up with a tarpit is must have a WS score, which tanks do not. the only result trying to tarpit a tank will have is tank shock rolls next turn

You're not witchhunting mobile posters like that /pol/ screencap extols you to, right?
>>
>>48155875
multimeltas aren't really long range though, why not a small detatchment built around a relic of the armory laser destroyer vindicator with the "ignore cover" legacy of glory? for counter assault a pimped out honorguard with some sort of beatstick HQ should suffice, depending on what you are counter assaulting.

No one says Space Marines arent Waac level. However, seeing as you saw his post to shove your bias further onto others, you have neglected to see that he had taken what was the most cheesiest list against the Knights.

Formations and some specialist units make the SM top tier, however their book also has a lot of under-performing units aswell. To compare them to the Eldar would be wrong. Eldar have formations and such to begin with, but on a base scale have really powerful units at low cost values. Even their worst models would be the best model in other factions like csm or orks.

Just looked it up, those little nigs CAN still move. Well, I was new to the hobby, and so was he. Oh well. As for the list;

>10 10-Man Squads
>3 10-Man Squads w/ 3 Arc Rifles
>Buy melee Weapoms as needed

Shit thanks for the clear up mate
>>
>>48155844
The tank can literally reverse and shoot your ass, or Tank Shock like everyone says.

Has Tank Shocking something actually work? All you do is pass a leadership test and move out of the way. Not many armies are going to fail and Death and Glory seems way too risky.

No shit, they are really interesting...I've never encountered any kind of rules for this stuff, though. Is it all fluff or is there a list out there somewhere?

>>48155943
I like the LR option because a) with 3 enginseers in it it is nearly indestructible, and b), it can strip 3 HP per turn easily with a 2/3 chance of destroying an AV 14 vehicle outright.

If it takes me 3 turns to drop the enemy brick it's already delivered a death star unit into my platoons anyway. Too late.

The other option I considered was 3x rapier batteries in a 55 pt Wall of Martyr bunker with an ammo dump upgrade, but that is stationary.

>>48156003
for 60 points more then the achillies you can get a full squadron of laser destroyer vindi's each putting out 3 S9 Ap1 Ordenance shots with twin-linked and 48" range, and while lower armor they have more hull points and more dakka
