Get rid of lakes 10, 16, and 20.
You'll still get the point across without totally breaking immersion, as lake 8 looks like it could conceivably be a natural formation. In that same vein I'd put a meandering river down the middle that feeds into and flows from Lake 8, would make it seem more natural and the river could be narrow enough that it doesn't mask the 8 too much. Make the edges of the island less uniform and you've your gimmick without beating players over the head with it.

OP didn't make this. This is done with Amit Patel's guide on procedural terrain generation, which includes a fully functioning demo. He puts out a lot of amazing learning resources:

This particular method is different than a lot of other terrain generation techniques in that it doesn't rely on a noise function (simplex, perlin etc.) to generate a heightmap first.

That map could be pretty good for interesting creation stories. One religion believes the land is the carcass of the Great Kraken, slain by the sun. Another thinks its the petrified remains of a knot of world-snakes that killed each other in their treachery.

I was looking into ProcGen maps, for a potential videogame project (though the potential of procgen RPG maps is something I have also considered, because making 1 map by hand takes much longer than making 100 procedurally, and picking the best one).

This one isn't also tied to an image though, it really is random.
