The sounds of a space hulk Sub-Edition
In the previous thread we continued the debate on who has the best geneseed and discussed the colors of specialists, we explained to an Anon why Destroyers are frowned upon, the loyalist Primarch reasons for being missing was listed, we learned some the ways of the Alpha Legion used to inflitrate the RG to ruin Corvus's dream of rebuilding his legion, left eye and right hand dominance was mentioned, talk on terminator armor, Dreadnoughts, and WW2 tanks and their production was made plus more in the last bread >>48062924

Jesus, imagine how terrifying that would be as a planetary governor.

One day you start finding important politicians and global leaders dead and mutilated, slowly communications are shut off, power grids shut down, then one day entire cities go missing or are slaughtered, all with no trace of who's doing it.

And then when everything's gone to shit, and you've finally given up, the fuckers who've been doing this emerge, nightmarish monsters dressed in strange armour and human skin. The final kick in the balls being that they weren't doing this for any particular reason, they were doing it because they enjoyed it.

Saturn had void-hoplites and was a bunch of orbital city-states in constant war, with the last functional warfleet in the system.
Jupiter was like Saturn, but without the hoplites and the fleet.
Sedna was an alien artificial planet.
There were witches with golems on Venus.
Luna was inhabitated by gene-sects, who were douches and needed a good beating from the Fists, LWolves, and Warborns.

Venus has colonies that were conquered during the Unification Wars.

Jupiter is a forge world. In that it had vast shipyards orbiting it and its moons are there to support the production efforts.

Saturn (that is, its moons) are the home of the Solar Auxilia. In 40k they're mainly the base of operations for the Inquisition and the Grey Knights.

Uranus has some orbital colonies.

Neptune('s orbit) was a home to a ton of mutants and got purged by the Emperor.

Pluto's just an outpost.

I'm curious. What is the appeal of the Imperial Fists? Is it their scheme? Dorn/Sigismund/Pollux? Their fortress building shtick? I'm only asking as it seems like they get more love here than most legions. Dorn doesn't seem to be a particularly outstanding figure amongst the primarchs. Can someone clear the air for me?

Dorn was the generic primarch of primarchs. He even had a bolter and chainsword.

Because they are based

They were really good at what they did, didn't have a gimmick and excelled in what they were suppose to do. They were the only chapter that exemplified the great crusade and undertook it with zeal.

They are just fleshed out really well.

Not to mention the best captins, fleet, facial hair, fortresses, and successor chapters.

He was better than most (Sanguinius was even better, like a better loser, and far too pure for that shit), but Dorn was the most zealous about crusading. Emps simply knew that the Warmaster was meant to be more flexible some times, something that Dorn wasn't really known for.

Almost correct. In 'Aurelian' Lorgar is told by a FateWeaver that Guilliman and Lorgar's feud is meaningless as they both believe the other one hates them. Lorgar also states in 'Know No Fear' and 'Betrayer' that Calth and the reaving of Ultramar has a purpose in the grand scheme and is not a personal vendetta against Guilliman.

Though Guilliman obviously comes to hate Lorgar because of this, regardless of Lorgar's reasons.

To be fair, the Thousand Sons were one of the most deadly legions despite being the smallest. It was almost an even playing field. Hell, if Magnus had actually tried to fight from the getgo on Prospero then they probably would have rebuked the SW but Magnus knew they'd be needed.

Actually, this brings up something that pisses me off. Magnus initially keeps from telling his legion that SW are coming and even refuses to fight until the very end because he knows the SW will be needed in the coming war but then what does he do? He does a complete fucking 180 and sides with the traitors.

Good idea. Contemptors have an invuln for the times where the enemy does bring ranged AT, like melta squads in zones mortalis, and Cortus will seldom be targeted on their sides. If you play ZM, that is.

Because some of us enjoy a chapter that doesn't rely on edgy bullshit nonsense, like a traitorous primarch/loyal primarch with a douche 2IC, or a drunken furry, or a pissy asshat who got waylaid even though he was supposed to be amazing and even wrote the spess mehreen bibble, or some neurotic fags that couldn't handle being badasses. Because Dorn was Terra's Praetorian, a job that most would have hated. Because he actually DID, while other primy's just talked. Because he had the good taste to die and stay dead, not leave his Legion and Successors to wonder if he was really gone. Because BT's are the shit, CF's are beasts, Iron Knights and Soul Drinkers rock, and the Fists' colors really pop on a table, unlike the ultrasmurfs.

Oh, forgot to mention that, didn't I?

Gal Vorbak and Ashen Circle seem awesome to me, with great models as well. My only wish is that the Mhara Gal had rules half as decent as it's model, because that is perhaps one of my favorite models FW's ever made.

Headhunter Kill Teams and Lernean Terminators seem pretty decent, though I'm pretty tired right now and can't really remember all that much.

I've heard good things about the SoH's units, but that's it, really.

>There's a MEGA for them in the OP.
Yeah, I know that, but I've a couple problems there. My first problem is that I'm a filthy phoneposter and can't access any of the MEGAS. My second problem is that I just want the Blackshields section of the book, as I've the LACAL, Age of Darkness Legions book with all the legions except BA, WS, and DA(?), and Book 5 with the Militia and Cults army list.
>>
>>48087346
It'd be nice if Headhunters and Lernaeans had models though. I'd be all over them. Gal Vorbak are excellent and Ashen Circle are pretty mid tier. I play Word Bearers and I'm starting Emperor's Children. I've thrown my Gal Vorbak at tanks, dreads, tacticals, everything. They mulch it. Give them some power mauls and you're set. Axes if fighting terminators.

That's not the whole story though. Perturabo was happy to kill them marine by marine, he enjoyed every moment of it and was in no rush. There was no greater strategic objective and he didn't care that he might not get the chance to finish them off. He greatly outnumbered them and the Imperial Fists couldn't exactly go anywhere (first thing he did was take out their fleet).

Guilliman bailed out the ImpFists, and what did Perturabo do? He concentrated on making sure that they couldn't recover their dead. Not kill as many more as he could; not extend the war to the Ultramarines for interfering (or, just as likely, for any other number of real or imagined insults). Just to continue hurting and shaming the Imperial Fists as much as possible, since that was the only point of the whole ordeal in the first place.

The Iron Warriors were THE legion for grinding attrition and victory through drawn-out mutual annihilation. To suggest the reason they didn't achieve the complete destruction of the Imperial Fists during the Iron Cage is due to anything other than Guilliman butting his nose into their private feud is simply giving the Imperial Fists too much credit.

Never that I saw.

The primary sources (i.e. the original ones that all others have drawn from) were from Index Astartes volumes I and II, compilations of articles which appeared in White Dwarf in the 90s. Interestingly for the time, many articles covered the same incident but with subtle differences as if from the "perspective" of the chapter that the article was for, suggesting that the real truth could be anywhere between the two points or even beyond. Even so, some clearly seem more convincing than others.

In the Iron Warriors version:
"So it continued - Perturabo dissected the Imperial Fists tank by tank, squad by squad. Rogal Dorn remained convinced that victory was in sight and pushed his men on. Perturabo pulled back some of his defenders and called upon others to hold - a stratagem that fractured the Imperial Fists, first into companies and then into squads. By bay six of the battle, each marine fought virtually alone [...] Still Perturabo remained patient, he allowed Dorn to rampage around the trenches calling his name and demanding personal combat, content that the sight of their Primarch's impotence would demoralise the Imperial Fists."
[...]
"If Perturabo had a failing it was that he had grown to enjoy tormenting his enemies too much. He could have finished off the Imperial Fists at any time but chose not to."

In the Imperial Fists version:
"Dorn would not tolerate [the Eternal Fortress]. Without his customary caution and planning, Dorn led his men into the heart of the Iron Warrior defences. The battle should have favored the treacherous trench-fighters, but the Imperial Fists endured."
[...]
"Eventually it became apparent that the Iron Warriors could not finish them. For all their skill and ferocity, the Iron Warriors lacked the faith to make the ultimate sacrifice that victory demanded."
>>
>>48088135
the only relevant information we can glean from the events of the Iron Cage is that the Ultramarines are greater than the Fists and Warriors combined

This is what I thought when first seeing it. IIRC some of the other illustrations in this presentation at the last event featured some of the already released primarchs in the same or similar positions as their model including Russ, leading me to believe this might be it.

I'm okay with the pose , I just hope they gave him a helmet option. Even if they don't, I'll slap one on him anyways.

it would explain why they havent released them both yet, if they were making them both at the same time like they did with ferrus and fulgrim, they couldve had another sculptor knock out russ in the meantime.

>the only relevant information we can glean from the events of the Iron Cage is that the Ultramarines are greater than the Fists and Warriors combined
At best you can say they're only better than what's left of the Iron Warriors and Imperial Fists after they first spent six non-stop weeks killing each other.

Or:
>"Perturabo had no desire to fight two Chapters and concentrated on preventing the Imperial Fists from evacuating their wounded and dead."
So really, you can only say that Guilliman didn't think he could beat a Perturabo even with Dorn's help after Perturabo's army had just spent six non-stop weeks in battle, and got the fuck out of there as soon as he completed his mission of rescuing Dorn, while Perturbao didn't particularly care about the Ultramarines and left them to do whatever while he kept killing the 'Fists.

Furthermore, Perturabo got exactly what he wanted out of it:
>"One insult had been avenged, and since then the Iron Warriors have lived only to settle matters with the corpse on the Golden Throne."
While on the other hand:
"Rogal Dorn was a broken man. It was ninteen years before he and the Imperial Fists could once again go to war. They left over 400 marines at the Eternal Fortress and every refugee carried horrific wounds."

Yes, if you ask the Imperial Fists, that's the excuse they'll give you for why the Iron Warriors didn't finish them off. The Iron Warriors tell the story differently, and in either case, no-one disputes that Dorn and his Imperial Fists would all have died their if Guilliman didn't bail his ass out.

We don't know at the moment. Dark Angels were the most secretive legion, even more than the Alpha Legion.

More like 19 years of "Fuck no! As worthless as a librarian!" if you were a Black Templar

Or were the BT codex compliant on the beginning? IIRC, fleetbased chapters have looser restrictions on chapter size.

I think I remember the Black Templar were a legion company that said "fuck that" and decided to stick together with their own colors anyway.

They've had at least two successors now though so someone somewhere told them to split up a bit.

They used to the largest legion before the Ultras took that title after the Dangles lost 50,000 marines right? Was that before they were reunited with One Punch Lion Man or after? I can't remember but I think it was before.

So how is the Ironwing protocol and how Well does it support mechanized infrantry with tank support armies over tank spam ?

Considering using it in 40k at 1500 to get a break from my usual codex.
