Guys.

Guys.

I just now realized that most of the provinces were named off of their geography.

Highrock: High Cliffs and Moors

Skyrim: Mountains (Rim of the Sky)

Valenwood: Hidden woods, Valen as in vale.

Morrowind: Morrow and in tomorrow, wind as in the ashen wind. Probably named because to can tell tomorrow's wind by looking at Vardenfell.

Summerset Isles: On the far west, where the sun sets. Sunset = Summerset

Elsweyr: Obvious. Elsewhere.

The only one I don't get is Hammerfell, which I assume has to do with them being the warrior race, or smithing. I like how they solved it later with the dwemer hammer thing. I don't know, but I'm sure I'll think of something the more I smoke.

From a purely MMO perspective, I like it a lot about it. The world is nice, the voice acting good, and the freedom to play your way is nice too. The RvRvR is fun.

From a lore perspective, there's a few things I like, and a lot to hate.

I actually like that it contradicts some aspects of the main game lore, as long as it does so in ways that aren't lame. The reason I like this is because it makes the main games more unreliable as far as historical events are, which is appropriate for elder scrolls lore. There should be contradictions.

Then again, I don't like that it changes a lot of the lore in lame ways. Jungles, mary sue princesses, all the factions that hate each other somehow getting along, etc, etc. I would have liked it better, if instead of being focused around a war of three political factions, each with largely the same capabilities, the game story factions were about wars between guilds/houses, all with different capabilities.

It would have been cool to have a mages vs fighters vs. thieves faction v faction wars. Sort of like how starcraft has factions with very different types of units, limiting classes to certain factions would have been really cool from a balance and pvp perspective.

Oh, and trainwiz, if you're in here, I have a question for you about one of the scripts in your Unique Uniques mod for Fallout 4. Specifically, the regenerating ammo script: does it have a limit to the amount of ammo that is regenerated hardcoded into it? I didn't see that as a parameter.

>Khajiit naming
But ESO's Khajiiti naming is not even remotely good.

It establishes a set of rules, and then never adheres to them.
So, first of all it introduces the concept of feminine and masculine honorifics. Fine.
The way they're divided is pretty dumb, but sure, I could see gendered honorifics. There's even arguably some indication of it in the lore.

The first problem is that it's not consistent with how it uses the honorifics. Despite the game stating that the honorifics are feminine, there's men that use "Dra", "Daro", and possibly "La". The same is true for the masculine honorifics "Dar", "Do", "Dro", "J/Ja/Ji", "Jo", "Ri". That's every masculine honorific.
Seriously, the only gendered honorific that's not used by someone of the opposite sex is "Ko" (used for respected healers, mages, and scholars), which is for some reason feminine.
But sure, let's say this is fine. It might just be that some people use opposite gender titles for no apparent reason.

Refishing for interest if anyone wants to test some Scrollhammer 2E on Maptools. Not in the mood to program today.
>>
>>48080619
It's also worth noting that Jobasha (Douglas Goodall) gave us the original honorifics, and never said anything about them being feminine or masculine. ESO doesn't just make their own and original honorifics gendered, they divide up the old ones as well.
Female Khajiit didn't tend to have honorifics in Morrowind (or not mark them with ' or -), but whenever they've had honorifics in Oblivion and Skyrim, they've used them without any indication of a gendered divide.

Then there's the fact that double honorifics is outrageously common in ESO, despite this being established as a taboo. Every single character using "Ko" (which means that the character is respected) uses it as their second honorific (which is how people lose respect for you). It makes no sense.
I mean, even the woman writing the ESO book on honorifics uses two. And one of them is masculine.

In all of Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, there's six Khajiit with two honorifics. No Khajiit in any book in any main game up until now has two honorifics.
In ESO, there's five Khajiit with honorifics just in the Temple of the Crescent Moons on Khenarthi's Roost.

Something I enjoy a great deal in TES is the ambiguity and room for interpretation that's present in-universe. It's not just us that can disagree about how a certain religion works or how worship of a deity should be done, but the people of Tamriel themselves very much disagree about these things.
A great example is from Daggerfall, about how the worshippers of Mara appear to be in internal theological conflict about the concept of "necessary violence". Basically the Maran Knights, a military order dedicated to a goddess of love and peace, creates some problems for the Benevolence of Mara.
That stuff is great, and I want more of it.

It's also a great way for the player to immerse himself, as your character gets a chance to see this sort of conflict and take a stance.
Should the Maran Knights be disbanded? Is it sometimes necessary to do harm to promote peace, and can you do so without breaking your religious obligations?
Even deciding that your character doesn't care about the issue says something about him.
>>
>>48081501
Maybe not right at this moment, but it would be silly to pretend it's not talked to death
It would be more interesting to talk about near-chim at this point, super powerful beings but not demigods.

It does some retarded shit but a lot of the hate is /v/-tier "stop liking what I don't like", or meming about frivolous points.
For instance, it's interesting to learn where flame atronachs live, since they seem to be a staple of daedra but didn't really have a proper origin.
Similarly, that "coldflame" atronach is just stupid since frost atronachs are already a thing. Why not just have solid-air atronachs while you're at it

I like what they added to Argonians but Argonians and the Hist are the only parts of the lore I find really interesting in ES to begin with.

You can see past events by getting high on Hist sap fumes. Outside of sipping sap there's also an ancient device used as a broadcast satellite for Argonians and the Hist to communicate with each other. And for some reason the Hist wants Argonians to live in the mud.

So one interpretation of TES is that it all comes down to music, right? That the Wheel is an instrument, the main theme tells the creation myth, each Tower's a different melody etc..

Some Tamrielic races have an innate magical ability that they channel through 'song'. Tapping into the base tune of reality or something to that effect. Do each of the 10 races have something like that? Or as far as we know is it just:

>Nords (The Voice)
>Redguards (Shehei)
>Bosmer (The Wild Hunt)
>Dwemer (Tonal Architecture)

Don't remember the source, think it was at a Quakecon presentation. Apparently Bethesda wasn't comfortable with having either Imga or Sloads in the game.

Zenimax Online originally planned to make Orsinium into a gigantic iron fortress using metal instead of stone, as seen in Daggerfall, but Bethesda didn't like it =^)
>>
>>48090323
tbf they're different cities. The PGE only states that Gortwog's Orsinium was made of iron. Which makes double the sense if the prior destroyed Orsinium's weren't.
>>
>>48090287
I'd argue that it's not so much that it all comes down to music, but rather that everything can be expressed through music.
The world is just music, the gods are just emotion, the Magne-Ge are just colour and so on. And any one of these is equal to the other in some regard.
Everything is music is colour is emotion and more. It's all the same thing expressed in different mediums.
>>
>>48090287
Regular spellcasting requires sound, so it could be assumed that there is some relation.

I'd assume yes, but wouldn't say it as a fact until Bethesda decides that's what they are going to develop for their next game.

Tell me about Orsinium. Where is it even located? Where do Orcs live in the mean time, inbetween Orsiniums? Are the strongholds in Skyrim unique to Skyrim, or do Orcs live in these glorified garrisons all over the world? More specifically, do they live in High Rock and Hammerfell?

And lastly, how come Orcs are tolerated by the peoples they live around?
>>
>>48090550
At the time of Skyrim, Orsinium is in the Dragontail mountains, between Hammerfell and Skyrim.

Inbetween Orsiniums they're just spread out, and there'd be strongholds in Skyrim, Hammerfell and High Rock.

And they're not really tolerated, Orsinium has been wrecked many times.
>>
>>48090550
Tends to be far in the mountains where nobody else lives, technically in Highrock, some parts of Hammerfell, and some parts of Skyrim. Maybe in Elseweyr, if the name Orcrest is literal.

Disorganized tribes like in Skyrim.

They normally aren't warmly welcomed anywhere. They are legally citizens because of their service in The Legion.
>>
>>48088155
Because the whole eastern influence thing is something incredibly overplayed.
>>
>>48088168
Inspired by the armour worn by Russell Crowe in Gladiator, which was a big influence on Morrowind.
>>
>>48088905
No, Cyrodiil literally stretched to the stars.
>>
>>48090550
There are Orsimer everywhere.
They commonly serve in the Imperial Legion, and thus end up stationed all over Tamriel, some of then retiring in towns and cities all over Tamriel. Likewise both males and females who are ousted out of strongholds or leave willingly often end up scattered around the world.
Their connection to the Legion really seems quite strong. When an alliance of Redguards and Bretons ousted the Orsimer from Nova Orsinium in the Wrothgarian Mountains, the Legion aided survivors, helping many of them into Skyrim and the Eastern Reach.

But their traditional homeland is in Hammerfell and High Rock, especially the Dragontail Mountains and the Wrothgarian Mountains. There's also supposed to be a separate(?) population of Orsimer in Valenwood, of which little is known.
Orsimer outside of traditional or majority-Orsimer areas tend to live like the normal population of their chosen residence, which makes them quite different from the Orsimer found in traditional settlements.

There's two kind of permanent Orismeri settelments. The first is strongholds, which represents the traditionalist side of Orismer society. These settlements are like the ones you see in Skyrim, though I would be there's significant regional differences. Life in a stronghold is tribal and independent (though the strongholds around Orsinium are likely bound to it).
>>
>>48090992
Then there's Orsinium, which is the wandering and eternal kingdom of the Orcs. Orsinium is always the only proper city ruled by Orsimer, and it is rather different from living in a stronghold. Orsinium is a kingdom proper, and is more metropolitan and sophisticated than regional strongholds. The differences between Orsinium and stronghold traditionalism can grow quite large. For example, the great king Gortwog introduced the belief that Malacath is just a demon whose goal is to forever keep the Orsimer an outcast folk, which Gortwog saw as wrong. He therefor (re)established the worship of Trinimac, believing him to be separate from Malacath. At the time of Gortwog's brilliant rule, the majority of Orsinium's citizens worshipped Trinimac and rejected their role as outcasts, while traditionalist strongholds still worship Malacath.
It's possible that this religious awakening and racial re-defining that was going on in Orsinium is one of the reasons that Gortwog's Orsinium was judged dangerous and destroyed. It is not known today if the new Orsinium also prefers to worship Trinimac. But I'd guess there's more Orsimer Trinimac worshippers across Tamriel now, decendants of those who fled Gortwog's Orsinium.

There's the actually a mod that gives lore related loading screens. And another that brings books from Daggerfall and Morrowind into Skyrim.

As for recommended mods, get all or most of the essentials on the /vg/ website (http://www.tesgeneral.com/#!essential/cs1p)

After that, a few mods I like are Convenient Horses, All three Sounds of Skyrim, Audio Overhaul 2, NARC, Cloaks of skyrim/Winter is coming/frostfall/RND/all that stuff., Morrowloot, Eternal Darkness, Skysight- Bigger trees, Cutting room floor, Run for your lives/when vampire attack, Unlimited ring/amulets, Dovahkin Prayers, Harvest Overhaul, Guard Dialogue overhaul, Gildergreen regrown, Height adjusted races with true height- Morrowind edition, Holidays, More Village Animals, Learn Alchemy from Recipes, Pumping Iron, TTYM, Lanterns, wearable lanterns, Tamriel Compendium, Ingredients of Tamriel, Apothecary inventory rebuild, Balanced Magic (Sadly gets rid of free casting), Spell Sneak Attacks 2, Improved Candlelight and magelight, longer candlelight, multi magelight, Lore Friendly Necromancer's amulet, Passive Weapon Enchantment recharging, smaller ice spike and ice spear, Spells of Tamriel, More Salt, Morrowind Imports, Telvanni Bug Musk Merchant, Unique Region names, Viewable faction rank, The Parthunaax dilemma, Read and learn speechcraft, Sneaktools, and Unique uniques.

Yeah, never been a 'weird for the sake of weird' fan.

Tribunal was the shit.

There was this guy with a dwemer robot arena in his basement.

It's like the occult. Most of the stuff is fairly simple, it's people that want to seem mysterious that make it obtuse.

Really, I like how weird it can be at sometimes, but that's not why I like it.

No, I know Anu. You said Aka, not Akatosh. And implied some fusion between him & Lorkhan (presumably resulting in Akatosh).
>and word of developer
Ah, fair enough. I didn't notice. Yeah, it explicitly says '"Lorkhan is Akatosh" - Kirkbride' in the middle there.
....But now i'm even more confused, because I thought the entire point is that they were opposites ala Anu & Padomy.

tesgeneral.com has good guides that cover modding, follow them and you'll have all the essentials, after that play the game and whenever you think
>hey I wonder if there is a game that does X
there definetely is one

Might just be an error.

Now you see how deep the rabbit hole goes. They are opposites, a dichotomy means related or conjoined opposites. Time itself is a contradiction.

These conjoined opposites did not always exist as such, since there was a time when time didn't exist. When Akatosh/time/dragons are messed with, reality can temporarily revert back to a stage of timeless chaos. These are known as Dragonbreaks.

I mean, it's not the first time that two opposites are the same. They did a whole expansion on that in Oblivion.

Give it a while. The more you understand it, the less it strains the eyes and brain.

That might actually mean something important, considering Sheogorath is merely a Sithis shaped hole.

this picture is a pain to "navigate" and understand, I think its one of those pics that are only understandable in retrospect, if you know all that stuff you get it, but just looking at the pic won't explain anything

I don't know who you are or what you did, but I want you to know that you deserve it.
