nvm found source on my own.

Looks nice.
That +1 can be used to defend too.
The -2 is also a huge effect for only 2 loyalty point.
>>
>>48058110
Really? Two free cards a turn is pretty huge for something that costs 4, as is Omniscience.
>>
>>48058197

Yeah, that's my thoughts. It's pretty hard to have the +1 not go off and she's too big to bolt. She's some nice, reliable card draw on a decent sided ass.
>>
Looks very blue, why is it tri-color?
>>
+1 and -2 are great but I don't like her ultimate.
>>
>>48058264

I'm honestly not sure beyond 'They didn't want 2 mono-blue walkers and Jace exists'.
>>
>>48058197
Especially when you consider it works on every turn.

Do you have 8 players, and some way to force people to attack you?

That's 16 cards a turn!
>>
Pretty bonkers.
+1 is great. Any creatures. On combat damage. Works defensively and offensively.

-2 is strong. Tap down any threats opening up your +1 for free cards or to protect her to get the ultimate.

-7 draw 3 and omniscience. Also ult with doubling season out

8/10 strong ass walker.
>>
>target 2 enemy creatures with her +1

Yeah ok come on attack me I'm cool with that.

Need her for my Clue deck

Detaining permanents is secondary in white, and drawing through combat is both at least a little white (especially with how well the ability worms on vigilance creatures, giving you the potential to draw 4 cards) and really green.
>>
>>48058609
drawing from combat is green? And white? Since when? Its been on blue cards historically, but I cant think of any green or white.

Also this isn't detain, its freeze which is also mono blue. Detain stops abilities going off too.

None of these effects are outside the blue pie.

>>48058659
I guess.

So the effect can be green, but is traditionally blue and is on way more blue cards. She doesn't need to be green, she just is.
>>
>>48058634

>None of these effects are outside the blue pie.

Neither are they exclusively inside the blue pie.
>>
>>48058634
None of the effect are outside of her color identity, but they didn't need green or white to make it fit. I would've liked her to be just two colors. The green seems stapled on, and unfitting of someone like Tamiyo, who used to be mono-blue.
>>
>>48058634
>drawing from combat is green?
Hystrodon, Keen Sense, Ohran Viper, Seshiro the Anointed, Silverpelt Werewolf, Snake Umbra, Warriors' Lesson, Cold-Eyed Selkie, Hunter's Insight, and Hunter's Prowess.
>>
>>48058634

drawing from combat has indeed been a green/blue effect.

The only acceptable one is Mardu because that color combo doesn't seem to have a nickname. America, BUG, RUG and Junk are superior names.

Except calling Jeskai for America is retarded if you are not American. Also I mostly hear Junk when talking about the traditional midrange deck so I find Abzan to be more clear when I just want to refer to the colors.
>>
>>48058988
I think it's because people already had BUG, RUG, Junk, and America for 4 of the 5 color combinations which are all catchy
>>
>>48058964
They have been commonly accepted both withing the company and the playerbase. No offens but you really have to be a newbie, considering almost all decks of those colour schemes in all formats are called by the Alara names, barring some gimmicky decks.

I'll agree on Junk, RUG and BUG tho, they're far better.

>Are there any cards that are good without Tamiyo AND play well into her ulti?

Any Cantrip or draw spell.
>>
>>48059434

All of them, like literally every card in magic that isn't already free, I've never been playing magic and said "gee I'm sure I'm glad I don't have Omniscience out because I only have 1 and 2 mana cards in my hand, that would he a waste."

Then don't play a lot of high cmc cards? Play things that investigate a lot so you can still have a sink for your mana and then each card you draw fuels the emblem more since you can pop off spells for nothing. Paying 0 for any spell that costs more than 0 is getting value no matter what it does.
>>
>>48059434
don't build your deck around her ult, there's no way you can reliably pop it off. 4 turns is an eternity for a Planeswalker to survive unscathed. just enjoy the free spells when it happens every 10 games.

It should be plainly obvious that a table is a table in its adherence to an ideal of table-ness, that is, its similarity to the essence of that which makes a table a table

I mean, I would, though. And if they didn't, they could just ask what colors that meant. And then if they were still confused I would tell them about Alara and how those names get used a lot even for people who started playing long after it (e.g., myself). And if they were pissed off about it for some unfathomable reason, I would tell them the truth, which is, "Well, people just like the names enough to use them and they caught on, I guess."

Why? I like them. They all sound kinda nice and feel natural for what they're referring to, for the most part. It helps that I really like the language group they used as inspiration, to be fair, but what exactly is WRONG with them?

>and should have never been made.
I mean, this seems downright confused. Are you just opposed to made-up proper nouns in general? Would you rather that Emrakul's cards were "Big Space Jellyfish Monster #1" and "Big Space Jellyfish Monster #2"? Would you rather that cards not mention parts of the lore they're referring to, e.g., "Return to Merfolk-land" as opposed to "Retreat to Coralheim"? Is "Coralheim" a retarded name, too? Would you rather planes weren't named, but described, e.g., "Return to Spooky Edgar Allen Poe Plane" instead of Shadows over Innistrad? I don't get it.

Well, yes, but that's what interesting about it!

It's like any other hobby. If you went up to your mom and complained about how your GM TPK'd you and your friends with bullshit "Rocks fall" shenanigans, she'd most likely look at you as though you had two heads. If you try talking about sports and you don't know what any of the terms mean, you're going to look pretty stupid pretty quickly. If someone is unfamiliar with skateboarding culture, they might know what an "ollie" is, but they might not know what a "900" is or how significant it is. Would you stop saying shit like b&, cheese pizza, or sage because a recent migrant from Reddit might get confused? Of course not.

It's all jargon, slang, cultural capital or whatever you call it, that lets other people know you're part of a subculture of some kind. In my opinion, it's a beautiful thing.

>>48060031
I don't think ANYONE expects that. You're just being melodramatic now.

That's quitter talk! I'm positive there are more buckets out there.

There's a lot indicating green, actually, and a little indicating white. She believes in leaving things as they are and not interfering--that's green. She also believes in sticking to her own rules--UW. White seems to me to be stretching it more than G, but it definitely doesn't seem like it's stretching it that much.
>>
>>48060203
In terms of the card, the +1. Drawing cards from creatures is a green ability. In lore, no idea. I too am rather mad at this development. Tamiyo was the thing I was most looking forward to going in this set, and she's in fucking bant.

Tamiyo considered her own death and that of Jace unimportant compared to her promise not to use her mega-scrolls. If the options were break that rule or be killed by Avacyn, she chose "be killed by Avacyn" without hesitation.

Black and red would never do something like that, but a white character definitely would.

But unless you physically own a deck you aren't a player, no matter who lets you use their extra decks. Being a magic player is more than just playing the game. It's about hoarding cards, that new booster pack smell, trading cards for stuff you need to build, holding your first mythic in a double sleeve even if it's something shitty like Sphinx of the Final Word, and that elation of winning a match with that one bulk rare everyone thought was shit.
>>

The first booster pack I ever opened had a Foil Balefire Dragon, so that was pretty fun. I still have it. At least it's pretty good in Kaalia or Dragon Tribal EDH.

>A new member every block, with a spicy new Oath card to go with it
Fuck's sake. It's like Wizards learns nothing from comics.
Nobody minds adding and taking away throwaway characters at the beginning and end of a block. Having them take an Oath and join Jace and Gideon's special club means they probably will show up again.
If they do, you'll probably have even more planeswalkers involved in the story of a block (this one had six, which is already high) which will mean more focus on them and even less on the plane itself, which defeats the purpose of even visiting the plane. It could get to the point where you could just about put everything in Dominira and nobody would tell the difference.

Most oldwalkers are dead too.
Venser is dead. Don't remember if Tezz is dead. Pretty sure Vraska's dead. I want to say that Domri Rade is dead too.
Looking back, Vraska might not be dead, but if she is she's a potato.
>>
>>48061063
yes, but its not a series, something that has detail and depth, not a reader's digest short.

Also, from time to time before the neowalker era they were actually good.
>>

>>
>>48061067
Tezzeret's last known status is alive, but he was planning to take over Karn's empty throne, and we know he failed to do so.

Vraska is alive, and uninjured, but Jace revealed her existence, compromising her whole "the Unseen" thing she had going.

Domri is alive as far as has been said. He was not involved in the Dragon's Maze in the slightest.

>>
>>48061109
They can die, even pre-mending. Old lore states that the first Planeswalker duel in history, waged between Nicol Bolas and some unspecified "Leviathan", ended in Bolas killing his opponent and feasting on the leftovers, taking their power.
>>
>>48061154
Literally who? I started in Theros.
>>
>>48060897
Depends on how they use the characters. Justice league unlimited had a shit load of characters and that worked out fine.

As long as they stick to using 2 maybe 3 members at most after this set things should turn out fine.
>>
>>48061173
That explains why you'd think that. Theros is a special plane with special rules for death. Elspeth's "survival" of her death is an exception, not the rule.
>>
>>48061167
Didn't Urza survive being fucking decapitated?

>>48061169

>>
>>48061176
They can essentially set up multiple 'watches' like the avengers, x force kind deal, hell they can actually do that to bring in a bunch of underused planeswalkers like an x force variant with Sorin, sarkhan, ajani or something. I mean since they are going full comic books might as well do that.
>>
>>48061109
>But planeswalkers can't die.
Tell that to Yawgmoth and Urza. The two combined are responsible for more Planeswalker deaths than any other force in existence
>>
>>48061232
Urza kept all his power in the stones he used for eyes, so his body was inconsequential. That's what you get when you behead a master artificer, but that's a unique case.

What exactly counts as combat damage? I forget the exact rulings so I'm not sure if double strike or trample damage getting through would double your fun.
>>
>>48061285
Double strike counts, since it's effectively two instances of damage.
>>
>>48061285
Trample damage is one instance of damage. It just carries over to the player.
Double Strike is two separate attacks.
