>>
>>48056414
How are the Summerset Isles politically run?

Do they use noble houses as well or are they a different form of government?
>>
>>48056520

>The Summerset Isle is a green and pleasant land of fertile farmlands, woodland parks, and ancient towers and manors. Most settlements are small and isolated, and dominated by ruling seats of the local wizard or warlord. The Isle has few good natural ports, and the natives are unwelcoming to foreigners, so the ancient, chivalric high culture of the Aldmer is little affected by modern Imperial mercantilism.

If any of you are interested, I played Morrowind high, and goddamn if that wasn't a trip.

It was probably the most immersive experience I've ever had. Especially with my robe of levitation. It was like i was there, flying weightlessly through the halls of Vivec like an astronaut in a space shuttle. I did the quest with the guy who had his pants taken from him, and I realized how absurd the situation of a flying wizards dashing around looking for some poor person's pants is.

I did a quest for the MQ but mainly did some stuff for the MG. Honestly, I didn't like fighting at all, I just liked helping people. I also cleared out the Hanin's Wake place with the ritual gone wrong. Helped out the poor Breton who was forced to eat his friends and wear a skirt. I took his hat, but let him keep the skirt for modesty, realized he'd make a good trap, thought it was weird that I was thinking that, and flew off into the sunset.

Also, I finally understood the Morag Tong. They weren't the "Good Assasin guild" they were a lawful institution to prevent the casualties of full on war, there are Telvanni Morag Tong, Redoran Morag Tong, Hlaalu Morag Tong, and probably even Dres Morag Tong. This cultural use off assassins was not only a great idea, but had a religious element to it, making it not only efficient, but sacred. This is also probably the reason Dunmer have such a cultural inclination towards short blades.

Also, from observing a kitchen in Gnisis, apparently people can eat Resin, which makes sense considering it's made of vegetable matter, but still surprising that people might eat it.

Not way too much. Especially that I can remember.

I remember trying to knife fight a kwama, and then realizing that I've been using Jinkblades all wrong. You see, the Jinkblade is supposed to be an opener, so you can paralyze, switch to another weapon and kill them while they're paralyzed.

As for the flying, it was incredible. To fly as fast as possible with no limit. I could help but imagining the robe to be this ethereally floating that propelled wind out the bottom of it, like from a studio ghibli movie. I did somersaults and flips in the air, or at least in my mind and sort of in game I did.

Let's see, I sold some very strong potions to Creeper, I went and bought Progress of Truth from Jobasha and delivered it to Caius. I remember plying around, and trying to walk with out the robe, and without the Shoes of Blinding Speed. It was fun and pleasant to feel the weight on my feet, and to try walking at a normal pace helped me with immersion and made everything feel bigger.

I tried doing moon sugar, and while one would thing one would be "WOAH DUDE IT"S ALSO DRUGS" it really wasn't like that. For me, the high one would feel from Skooma would be completely different, and the thought made me a bit sad since I'm not a fan of hard drugs. Sujamma and Moon Sugar are fine, though.

Also, let me tell you, the colored candle in different parts of Vivec are a trip. I already likened it to being an astronaut weightless in a shuttle, but that didn't come close to describing the rapid changes in subtle color. I feel that that helps to section Vivec subconsciously and make it feel larger and more organized. If it was on purpose, kudos to the devs.
>>48057518
Yeah, I knew about that, but I never though of Resin that way. That's really cool that there's still details like this that we're still figuring out.

Oh, I thought we were just questioning odd architecture choices.

For example, wouldn't breeding and maintaining this population of skeevers, building the ramps, and keeping them alive for thousands of years be far more complicated than what's reasonable?
>>
>>48057564
Haha, nah, Bretons all the way. I tried playing an Altmer, but they're too squishy for me, and the extra magicka and disease resistance (Breton's already have 50% disease resistance, due to how effects are arranged either way) don't really make it worth it, since I never actually need those things.

The thing is, anything can be magic or absurd until it becomes routine. That's why things like Siltstriders are perfectly normal for us, but for some guy who only played Skyrim, it's weird and even kind of creepy. I feel like the best way to describe what I felt would almost be child-like wonder, and it was something I hadn't felt since I fist played it on Xbox at my friend's house years ago.

The internal logic of Dunmeri society is pretty sound, and it took a bit of reading and dialogue, as well as some personal understanding of the concepts to reach that point. Maybe that and Mysticism are why Breton's and Dunmer get along better than most other races do, or maybe I'm just speaking out of my ass.

Either way, it's incredible what a world they put out there, and how much detail and effort went in to making it all seem realistic, despite the surreal elements that seem mundane to us. I believe the term is Verisimilitude.

Yeah, the Morag Tong are actually a completely plausible thing. The idea is to keep personal vendettas between nobles escalating into full on house war. It's just like weregild. it's not just and it's not fair, but it makes actual clan war way less likely, and is therefore ultimately an effective peacekeeping institution.

>>

>>48056130
Daedra and Aedra roles in past kalpas
>>
>>48059457
How are the Bosmer even ever relevant?
>>
>>48059528
The idea stems from the theory that in each kalpa the Daedra and Aedra switch, but that doesn't actually appear to be substantiated by anything other than in-universe conjecture. While there isn't anything conclusive, it seems that, when there is change, it's not necessarily because of the cycle but because of how they are perceived by mortals. That's what separates the Alkoshs from the Auri-els.

That's not to say there can't be an upper level change, like what happened to Dagon. In that case it was even part of the kalpa cycle.

It could be the exact opposite, though.

It's from Nordic myth. Dagon was once called the Leaper Demon King, and conspired to save pieces of reality from Alduin. Alduin catches him, and transforms him into Dagon who is cursed to destroy everything he once saved. That's why his sphere is destruction and he keeps invading Tamriel. Then there's everything with Mehrunes.

It's not just Dagon, though. Almost all of the Princes have something more going on than it seems.
>>
>>48057537
Why exactly are you saying there are no milling stations?
There are clearly buildings on both flanks of the wheel.
>>
>>48059457
Did Azura actually curse the chimer or was she simply taking credit for a side-effect of Tribunals tinkering with heart of lorkhan? I am asking because supposedly daedra dont have much power over the reality since they weren't involved in its creation, so how does she have enough power to curse an entire race like that? She isn't the strongest right, as far as I remember its Jyggalag
>>
>>48060016
Well, there's Malacath as well...
>>
>>48060016
That's a good question, and up there with the rest of what happened at Red Mountain. Like it, there isn't really a definitive answer. Even among their own legends there are a few different options, like those that you mentioned and completely separate origins like another mortal tricking her, or the Chimer being taught by the Three Good Daedra how better to "wear their skin."

On that note, Azura potentially has a lot more pull on reality because she's sch a big part of Dunmeri culture. That could be what enabled her to make such sweeping changes.

Both Vivec's and Alandro Sul's account of what happened point to Azura changing the skin of the Chimer.
I like to believe that the Daedra's power in the world is bestowed by how much power a society gives them. Azura who has been the central spirit of the Chimer for a long time. They let her into their way of life and from that Azura garners a lot of influence over their society.
Once the Tribunal betray her, Azura uses up all that influence given to her in sort of a goodbye gift to the Velothi, as to say "you aren't really my people anymore."

It depends on who you worshiped and what you believed. The normal process is that your soul is recycled through the dreamsleeve where the memory is stripped from it, to eventually be reused.

They aren't the most relevant race outside of Valenwood most of the time, but they've got their aspects.
Sometimes they can do spectacular chimp-outs, like with the Usurper.
And though I'm not entirely sure how bloodlines work among the Bosmer, the Camorans are nevertheless impressive. Not Ra'athim-impressive, but nevertheless incredibly ancient and important.

>>48060330
Unfortunately, some princes are displayed way less than they deserve. I'd love more Vaermina and Namira lore.
The thing is that a lot of the lore about princes has to do with how they play a part in religions and culture, and Vaermina isn't especially important for any culture in Tamriel.
This also means that when her presence in the lore is small, the writers tend to not focus on princes like Vaermina in favour of more established princes like Azura.

Skyrim's Vaermina quest had some fun ideas.

My problem with some of the daedric princes is that their sphere isn't properly defined (Namira, Peryite) or they're comic book villain evil (Molag Bal, Mehrunes Dagon) while most are more morally ambigous.

Mehrunes Dagon is morally ambiguous though, and the best villain in the series after Ur. After all, he has played a big role in roughly half the games in the series.

We don't know a lot about the Daedra period, which makes sense.
>>
>>48060895
Moral ambiguity is only a concern if you're moral. When you're entirely amoral, it matters dick how mortals view your sphere.

Besides, Bal and Dagon both have "positive" sides.

I loved it, you can actually reach any place there without the shrines, the falmer aesthetic is pleasant, the music is good, the bow and shield have unique enchantments, the two dragons bursting up from under the ice was cool too. A pity Dawnguard didn't focus entirely on falmer, instead of poor-mans Kate Beckinsale
>>

My problem with it was the two main factions both sucked shit.
As a vampire, your options are to suck decrepit, vampire-phimosis cock, or get 1/4 of the way into the Dawnguard, realize there's no way to progress unless you cure yourself, and then jury-rig your way through with console commands until you don't want to play anymore.

>Moral ambiguity is only a concern if you're moral. When you're entirely amoral, it matters dick how mortals view your sphere.
God damn it I hate it when people say shit like this.
You do realize that morality is an entirely mortal concept to begin with, right? Amorality is basically the definition of fucking evil. If your actions are deemed evil by society than you are evil, that's all there is to it. It has nothing to do with how the individual rationalizes their own actions.

That's Boethiah. Dagon is destruction and just fucking mortals shit up.
>>
>>48061358
Dagon is "throw down the towers" rebellion. Boethiah is "stage a coup" rebellion.
>>
>>48061392
Something I never understood about towers is how mer built them while they uphold the creation that men defend.
>>
>>48061358
No, all those things are in fact Dagon.
Read the Book of the Daedra
http://www.imperial-library.info/content/skyrim-book-daedra
Boethiah is more along the lines of conspiration, strategy, and usurpation.
>>
>>48061417
It's a little more nuanced than that. Like you said, all of the Towers were built by Mer, in imitation of Adamantia, excluding those naturally existing like Snow Throat or Red Mountain. Through this construction they were trying to ascend, like they saw Auri-el do.

Now, it's not that they uphold reality, but it's theorized that they can play a role in how it's shaped or defined.
>>
>>48061358
Except those are not Boethiah's domains. Boethiah is not but backstabbing and treachery. Ambition, change and rebellion are the defining features of Dagon, who seeks nothing but to expand his own domains and, well, change the balance of powers. Compared to almost any other, aside from Molag, who are too busy wallowing in their personal domains and fucking around with mortals to actually try and invade or expand their domain.

And as >>48061454 points out, methods differ significantly also. Bobo is about skullduggery while Meh Dagon is about skull smashery and skullduggery, whichever happens to advance your ambitions and cause more destruction.

Adamantia and Red Mountain do hold up reality though, as they give the world its divinity.
>>
>>48061037
First of all they both serve the Dunmer through the Testing.

The crux of any Daedric Prince is that they are spheres and concepts, and those concepts are too wide to be entirely "good" or "evil" even from a mortal's perspective. Of course that perspective doesn't matter. The Princes merely are.

I won't speak for Dagon now, as someone else did that. Beside, Dagon is the easy one to understand.

A rejection of the sphere of Bal is a rejection of Domination and Control.
He's all about domination through force, the weak serving the strong. The concept shouldn't be unfamiliar to anyone, as it's essentially a foundation for a good deal of societies. A follower of Bal would want things to be according to this natural order.
His spheres include slavery and rape, which are both about the weak submitting to the strong. And I'd imagine a follower of Bal would argue for this not only because of his conception of the natural order, but probably also in the view that it is in some people's best interest to be enslaves. See Aristotle's idea of the slave nature or Southern defence of slavery in the US.
It doesn't even have to be as explicit as outright slavery.
But just about any system of governance is ultimately built on some variation of a strong ruling body (nobility/state) ruling a weaker party (peasant/citizen).

>>48062333
I can't speak for all followers of Bal. It's possible that being into a religion where power is so central, that one might end up with the perspective that oneself is more deserving to be in power than your favoured deity.

But I can't imagine that view being anything but a extreme outlier. Most mortals, and Daedra cultists most of all, will know that they are vastly less powerful that a Prince. And as a said, it lies in Bal's vision that the weak should serve the strong. I'd argue that a Bal follower seeking to usurp Bal himself is more about rebellion and ambition than it is about Bal's teachings.

So the question isn't so much about the Bal follower submitting to Bal, he absolutely should, but more about how he submits and what that submission means. Something I find interesting is that Bal in a way favours both the strong and the weak, and that submission isn't entirely negative. Vampires submit to Bal, and are in turn rewarded. The original cause of Vampirism is one of the ultimate forms of submission, rape, yet the Vampires are strong. A peasant under a feudal lord is arguably oppressed, but should also receive military protection. Submission is brutal, but it can also be liberating.

All Princes are capable of treating their followers poorly, and some are probably more prone to this than others, but from the perspective of a follower of Bal, it might actually be fully within the Prince's right to act this way.

I really want more religious texts about Bal.

Dagon is generally more portrayed as a force rather than outright evil, and he has arguably good aspects, like represent change and ambition. The dunmer don't consider him really that bad in the first place.

You know what would be interesting to add to the Elder Scrolls Online disaster? Second Era Winterhold.

>pre-collapse: the city is still standing
>huge, dark stone walls and towers like the college, magically reinforced
>the Jarl's keep is a mead hall with a roaring hearth
>the Thanes are a grim and violent sort, dressed in furs and animal skins, the Nordiest of Nords
>the college is the center of learning in the province and brings commerce into the city from all over
>big rivalry between college(city Nords) and thanes(rural Nords)
>below the city are the docks, where trade with berserker tribes brings fish, horker and whale products into the city
>snowberries and spruces are the only native plants that are edible, wheat is imported from the south
>the Jarl is on good terms with Elves because of College business, and was among the first to suggest forming the Ebonheart Pact
>to keep the Thanes on his side, he is also plotting to overthrow Jorunn and return Winterhold to being the capitol of Skyrim
>Frostflow Lighthouse has not yet been sacked by the Falmer uprising, its flames are an important landmark for sailors
>Driftshade Refuge is not abandoned, it's the castle of a thane, and watches over a thriving village where winter-resistant wheat and potatoes are grown
>Whistling Mine, as well as mines in the small mountain west of the city, maybe another one on the mountain where the Shrine of Azura will get built later on, are all prospering, giving the largest iron yields in the province
>the city's housecarls go to Serpentstone Island to kill Ice Wraiths as an initiation rite, as always

TESO is a mess but this would actually be interesting, it's surprising they didn't add Winterhold at the beginning seeing as how it was far more important than Riften in the Second Era.

I'm back.

The story goes that while doing a quest for MG, I stopped by Gnesis, and was looking for a place to sleep. Naturally, I try the tradehouse, and walk up to the friendly Breton proprietor. After discussing some things, I learn that he does not have a bed for the night. Not one to let logic or the law dictate me, I search for any beds to use when nobody is looking. I hovered to the kitchen when I noticed the slave. I was appalled that this man, a fellow Breton, had forgotten our roots and now supported the vile institution. I spoke with the Argonian, and tried to find the key. I assumed that there would be a key on the publican, but I wasn't about to be caught for theft, or worse, foul murder.

I scoured the kitchen and tradehouse looking for the key, but all I find is a tray with food and resin on it, which makes me come to this realization.

I don't remember what happened after that. Probably stopped playing and got a burger from a restaurant just down the street. Who knows. Not much of a story, but that's the truth of it.

I dunno, I found it a mix of bland, and just plain annoying. A few biomes, like for example the vast expanse between Morrowind and Morthal, or The Reach, or between Riften and High Hrothgar were just a slog to ride through and get attacked by spiders all the time. Also, when looking at a map, Also, the cities lacked a lot of character. Some holds barely even have walls and are desolate little hovels with like a dozen inhabitants.

But that might be because I have a boner for cities. My Skyrim mods are 80% new villages and cities, to make up for all the grand illusions I had of metropolitan vikings.

Yes, and what I'm saying is, the city is where the commerce would be gathered and would basically be the center of a place as cold as Winterhold.

Perhaps I should have phrased it better. Rural Thanes(who are would rule or have investments in areas that produce ore and fish) would favor Nordic interests heavily, while city Thanes(honorary titles and stewards) would be more in favor of the college and of expanding trade with the Dunmer.

Serious answer: The Lore we have of High Rock is not nearly enough to make our own setting on it reliably, and it wouldn't quite be High Rock if it was just invented by a player. Hell, it wouldn't be Elder Scrolls universe, it'd just be fanfiction, devoid of any legitimacy and substance.

it also has the same architectural style as the other dunmer cities

fuck you zenimax

if you wanna share skyrim screenshots and not discuss lore that's fine, just do so in >>>/vg/tesg/

Architecture, while not as exiting as spaceships shooting math, is still lore.
Especially the varying architecture of places like the vale
>>
This place would be much better if we never talked about gameplay. This isn't /v/, so behave.

Architecture is not gameplay

Oooh, I like architecture, let's discuss that.

What do we know about architecture, outside of ESO, of High Rock, Hammerfell, Elsweyr, Summerset Isles, Valenwood and Black Marsh?

Arena and Daggerfall don't give a lot of useful information cause all houses looked generic, and ESO uses the same architectural style for a whole province.

Well I remember someone talking about the variance in Anvil, I think that was about Hammerfell mostly.

People have plenty of discussion of who'd achieve CHIM. But who would never achieve CHIM? I heard that necromancy and lichdom is basically going the reverse of everything CHIM stands for. Why?
>>
>>48073371
I always liked how settlements near a province border will mix influences of the two provinces

Cheydinhal had dunmer influence, Leyawiin khajiit&argonian, nords in Bruma, redguards in Anvil.

For some reason Falkreath in Skyrim was more Imperial than that Bruma in Cyrodiil was Nordic. Quite the unusual transition if you ask me.

Blacklight probably wouldn't have nordic influence, but Dragonstar and Jehanna do.
>>
>>48073404
Scholars probably wouldn't be able to handle chim, they're be the ones that zerosum.
Of course the average everdayman, bandits and merchants and guards, probably don't even know what chim is, so they're out.
>>
>>48073427
I think the Bruma discrepancy is more about being stubborn nords than just being near the north end.
I don't really have a reason why Falkreath would be Imperial, but I'm not really too good at determining what makes something imperial and what's just practical.

>Jehanna has nordic influence
I wouldn't know, but I don't think so. The Western Reach is populated by, well, Reachmen. And as far as I can tell they are at odds with everyone around them; Orcs, Bretons, and Nords. They seem mostly homogenous too. Just like Riften doesn't have any Dunmer influence.

Speaking of the Western Reach, how much contact would it have with the rest of High Rock? Seems to me like the general High Rock culture of landed titles, court intrigues, and magery clashes with the pict-like tribals.

Tell me all about Shalidor. Are the legends true? How strong was/is he compared to other mages and shit.
What happened to him did he die? Did he know the secret of life? Before you answer, say if you are going to take information from TESO. Because TESO needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
>>
>>48073339
Apparently towns in High Rock seems samey across the province if you're not familiar with the region. At least, in the second era. I think this might be a nod to Daggerfall.

The Isles have their whole insect wing aesthetic going on.

Soul is a trifold. Memory, Anuic remnant and Magicka storing body.
Memory stays in whatever afterlife, Anuic remnant gets recycled together with Magicka storing body.
If you got soultrapped you are stripped of magika storing body which is used in enchant and your Anuic remnant and memory are sent to the realm bound to the soulgem.
>>
>>48073651
>Tell me all about Shalidor. Are the legends true?
We don't know. His portrayal in ESO was pathetic at best and he did not display any of his supposed knowledge.

What he did do is an impossible feat of actually coming straight back from Aetherius which might be tied to "The secret of Life that he stole from Akatosh", but guess what...THAT IS NEVER EXPANDED ON IN ESO!

So no, we literally did not get any new info on him from ESO, none, nil, all we got was Sheogorath cucking him from his books.

As for power of other mages, you meet a guy in Skyrim...you know, that certain adept Psijic monk who can nonchalantly stop time as if it was magelight spell, so there is that. Power levels of wizards that we never see is super high, and we never see them because Bethesda.
>>
>>48073651
Most of Shalidor's legends are most likely fabrications. He spent a lot of time studying in Labyrinthian. If you want to take ESO, he also bargained away a small part of the Summerset Isles to Sheogorath to try and decipher the writings of madmen. Then his ghost helps the newly formed Mage's Guild recover the island.

I don't mean to be nitpicky, but I have to disagree with the way this interpretation of the Dreamsleeve (and most opinions on lore, really) is always plainly stated as if it were irrefutable canon. There are three mentions of the Dreamsleeve throughout the series. In Battlespire, a daedra lady hides herself in it, and it is used as a sort of internet. In Oblivion, it's mentioned in the Commentaries: "We all leave the dreaming-sleeve of birth the same." And in the Infernal City books (recognized as canon by Bethesda): "There is a spell that allows one to talk to the ghosts of recently departed people before they pass into the Dreamsleeve."

So, what is known is that the Dreamsleeve: 1) can be hidden in somehow, 2) can be used to communicate like the internet, and 3) is where people both come from when being born and go to after dying. So it does indeed solve the problem of there otherwise being no 'neutral' afterlife in TES. Without the Dreamsleeve there is no answer for what happens if your soul isn't already signed up for Sovngarde or Coldharbor, for example. I was partial to the idea that your might simply be snatched up by whatever finds it first, and that may still happen to the unlucky, but that line from the Infernal City does seem to confirm that people go to the Dreamsleeve when they die.

I do admit that the recycling aspect looks like an obvious next step if people are born from and return to the Dreamsleeve, but it's not 100%. Maybe they actually live on there in a traditional afterlife. Or maybe they do get stripped and recycled. It's not entirely clear. I'm just saying that it can be more interesting to consider alternatives to these sorts of questions, rather than going with the popular idea.

There is an explicit mention of 'recycling' in the context of the Dreamsleeve in the Loveletter from the Fifth Era, but that's not canon.

>>48074233
I love how ghosts in ESO break the laws of transplanar travel constantly, I also love how every third quest NPC is a ghost.
>>
>>48074265
I don't think that anyone is stupid enough to take everything for absolute canon here, you don't have to state that it's a popular opinion same way you don't have to say
>this is my opinion
every five seconds in any discussion in general. I used to write a whole paragraph about how "you must learn lore by yourself and make your own judgement" etc. but it's pointless really. People who are into lore research will go read up on stuff like you did anyway and rest of the fags will never bother anyway.

What about the building of Winterhold and Labyrinthian (I know Bromjunaar was there before Labyrinthian) with a spell? And he fought against the Dwemer legions, alone. Those are pretty impressive feats.
Speaking of TESO, I haven't played Mages Guild, is there any information how Shalidor died? Or is he really dead?
>>
>>48074265
Don't forget the possibility that Dwemer calling, you know their internet/telepathy might be done through dreamsleeve.

In door of oblivion book The Calling manages to work in every single plane of existence which points to the fact that it's more than just sending thoughts via magicka or something.

...and again MK literally said that it's dreamsleeve memospores, but yeah, "not canon".
>>
>>48074304
>What about the building of Winterhold and Labyrinthian (I know Bromjunaar was there before Labyrinthian) with a spell?
Could be possible, there are many mention of shit being built with spells.
>And he fought against the Dwemer legions, alone.
This might be fabricated, no matter how powerful of a wizard you are you won't fuck with legions of the Dwemer. Not because you can't beat all of their Automatons, but because they are not dumb and will come up with some shitty tonal contraption to warp you or trap your soul or some other nasty shit.
>Speaking of TESO, I haven't played Mages Guild, is there any information how Shalidor died? Or is he really dead?
He is dead, he created an "enchantment" that lets him return if mages/world is in danger, he returns, get's cucked by Sheogorath. That is literally the extent of lore regarding him in ESO despite him being right next to you.

Speaking of afterlife. How does one become a ghost, spirit or wraith? I know how liches and dragon priests "work".
>>
>>48074358
belief in general seems to be a major part in anything tied to afterlife
it most likely is the very common
>spirit does not feel like going to it's final rest because unfinished business/vengeance/someothershit

Posted this in /tesog/, but I hope my home board replies more.

Started playing ESO recently. I am also looking for some rp whenever anyone has free time, I might finally fulfill my rp dream of starting a cult on Nirn.
I roleplay as a mad follower of Shezzar and usually stand near the chapel in Wayrest.
If you want some mad ramblings or ingame lore discussion/roleplay hit me up.
@Lorkhatosh

Also I know that it's ESO but still, it's a potential place for lorefagits to fulfill their dreams in TES setting as long as they do fun shit together and ignore the stupid stuff ingame.

One more thought on the whole recycling thing: ancestral ghosts. If these ghosts are truly a Dunmer's ancestors that seems to undermine the idea that souls are stripped and reused. Then again, it could just be any soul pulled up with a label smacked on top. Or maybe the ancestral spirits are bound to Mundus and never get sent off to the Dreamsleeve in the first place. But then, do all Dunmer get stuck as ghosts, or just those who get certain rites enacted on them? I kind of hope so, because the recycling idea is pretty cool. Just thinking out loud.

>>48074322
That's an interesting thought. The use of the Dreamsleeve as a medium of communication or something might be more interesting than whatever its involvement in birth and death is. I'll have to read up on the Dwemer and think on this, thanks.

>>48074358
From what I recall, ghosts in TES seem to work like your average ghost, someone dies with feelings of regret/revenge/etc. tying them to the world, preventing them from passing on. Maybe they're sometimes something like the result of failed necromancy getting a soul stuck in Mundus (or successful necromancy, considering you can summon ghosts), though, that's a fun idea. Vengeance seems like the most obvious answer though.
>>
>>48074623
Ancestral ghosts are actually stated to be bound.
Yes Dunmer are such dicks that they literally used necromancy at the deathbed of certain people to bind them.
Dunmer culture has A LOT OF necromancy in general.
>>
It doesn't matter if it's fucking canon, it's what's fucking written, and it's what people are going to talk about when discussing the lore.
>>
>>48074298
Yeah, you're right. Sorry about that.

>>48074639
Oh, that makes sense. Sneaky elves.
>>
>>48074270
It's because they tried to shovel in as many iconic characters from lore right? Make them all appear as ghosts.
>>
>>48074686
that's exactly what happened
>>
Anyone else think if there would be any direct continuation from TES:V, it'd be an even higher rise in power of the Aldmeri Dominion? Like it wouldn't matter if the Imperial or the Stormcloaks won in the civil war of Skyrim, the Aldmeri Dominion wins in the end. It'd be cool if the Aldmeri Dominion would be the big bad of TES, since they're pretty much anti-Lorkhan.
>>
>>48074750
That's quite obviously what they are pushing for, a metaplot that will unify plots of future TES games for a while.
Mehrunes Dagon was sort of that since he was forshadowed since Redguard but he was really in the back and only mentioned through prophecies.

This is a lot more direct and relevant.
>>
>>48073651
>>48074218
Mages have no real limits. Laws of how things work, but no real limits that can't be broken.

That said, he was probably just a really powerful wizard. Probably around level 17,18, or 19.
>>
>>48074454
I might take you up on that.
