Each cat person character sheet must be placed under direct scrutiny and judged on a case by case basis.
Kha'jit type cat people are fine if the character shows no signs of being a product of the furry fandom, like unnatural hair colors, dyed hair, or a character portrait that looks like that weird unnatural way all furries draw their animal heads instead of like an actual animal head.
Anime style cat-people are fine if the character resembles Liono or Marin from Grandia 2. "Cat Girls" of this type are dangerous to allow and should be rejected immediately if they show even the slightest hint of being the brain-damaged NYAAA NYAAA waifubait type of cat girl instead of just a person who has animal features.
At least that's how I would do it.

If you are going to include a fetish-capable race, you need to make sure that the first ones of that fetish-race they encounter are ugly. Like, american ugly. Fat, opinionated, base. Unattractive in body and mind. Working some trudge of a menial job with no aspirations or dreams of anything more.
That way, later on, you can include DEM HIPS the catgirl, and the players have something to contrast it to, mentally.
My first recommendation is to know your audience. Will they be OK with cat people or will they go full on ragequit? If the latter, then you will want to reconsider, or very much make it less of a noticeable thing (like having a LOT of animal folks around - maybe pig-like orcs and planet-of-the-apes monkey people be a thing, crocodile body guards, and then cat people in there)?
If this is not just for a group of friends where you can know their preferences (like it's a wide-ranging product), then you need to just make them as awesome as anyone makes any non-human race in any other novel. Think about what makes an idea shit vs. kick-ass awesome.

Book series, yep. Dunno know if it's in print, I just torrent epubs. There's 5 of them, the middle three are essentially one very long split book that follows right after the first one and then there's a timeskip with the 5th book.
Basically it's about a cat-people ship that gets into progressively deeper shit, there's only really one human character in the entire series and the story is never from his perspective, it's really great with alien mindsets and language barriers and being claustrophobically first-person.
