bitch that is not how we are flipping this fucker.

the best methods to us are.

1, getting it to 3 power, easy peasy, Thalia's Lieu+ Gryff's boon or any other way the deck cna run to do it.

2, the new White "Escalate" card.

3, Lantern Scout.

You're pretty totally missing the fluff of what a magic game is.
You're a planeswalker who is summoning these beings either out of the ether or out of their correct time and place. In either case, you're bending them to your will.
In Magic the card game, the player is an old-walker; no matter what the new walkers and the justice league do, everything in the universe bows to you. Except other old walkers.

Try to explain to me how the jacetice leaguers could all be on the same side at the same time as two Ulamogs, two Kozileks and two Emrakuls. Hell, they could even be fighting a side that has exactly themselves on it.

The lone rider is completely fucked and mutated and turns into a fucking crazy beast that is beholden to the will of Emrakul; definitely true. If this were a tabletop wargame or something I'm sure he'd switch sides. But in this game everything in the universe, including Emrakul, is beholden to the will of the summoning old-walker/player.

No sides have been switched, this card is totally eldrazi aligned.

if you do this, you suck. at least sugest that modal spell or tandem tactics since both of those have an effect other than gaining life. also, that still makes it flip at the end of turn three, and it doesn't attack as a 4/4 (5/4 with gryff's boon) until turn four. like I said.

Why does everyone in the thread seem to think that this card is so good? It's all right after it flips, but really think about the amount of work it takes to transform this thing outside of a dedicated life gain deck. In other words, just through lifelink alone.

People have mentioned Gryff's Boon, but that still isn't even enough. You've gone to the trouble of putting an aura on something (always a risky move unless the creature as some way to dodge removal, which this one absolutely does not), and you can't even transform him. And without any kind of aura, he's worthless. In a format clogged up with Sylvan Advocates, Duskwatch Recruiters, Lambholt Pacifists and even Jace, Vryn's Prodigy, a 1/1, even a 1/1 with first strike, is completely useless in combat. Hey, you know what beats this thing in combat? Fucking Thraben Inspector.

It's way too difficult to transform and the other side isn't worth clogging up a deck by putting in a bunch of life gain cards. I firmly do not believe that this is playable in Standard.

You can literally splash any colour to help it flip by itself (giant growth, titan strength, etc), you can use shitloads of different archtypes to help it flip (all knigths get +1/1, all white creatures get +1/1, all attacking creatures get +1/1 till end of turn, etc), you can simply use a shitty lifegain sorc to make it flip (chap blessing, Healing Salve, etc). Like, just about anything can go with this card. And on top of that, it has protection in form of FIRST STRIKE and and AAAAAAND it gains trample after flipping. And it costs only two mana for what is gonna be a 4/4 first strike, trample, lifelink turn 3/4.

Because for some reason you ignore that the spell was the result of having access to all the mana from the plane

psst
Brisela has four forearms just like Ulamog because Emrakul is using her Eldrazi fuckery-powers to recreate the destroyed Titans from denizens of Innistrad. Brisela will eventually become a new Eldrazi Titan in her own right and prove that there were serious repercussions to destroying the Titans in the first place, exactly as Ugin predicted/foreshadowed in the Uncharted Realms about the first two Titan's deaths. This block will end with Emrakul and Brisela being chased away from the plane (but not destroyed) by Liliana with meek support from the Gatewatch, leaving open the threat of future Eldrazification open for future planes
>>

>If only they would all be mad or something now, but no
I suspect the idea that madness is a fundamental part of Lovecraf's stories come from this quote from The Call of Chulhu:
>"...the time [when the Stars are Right] would be easy to know, for then mankind would have become as the Great Old Ones; free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and revelling in joy. Then the liberated Old Ones would teach them new ways to shout and kill and revel and enjoy themselves, and all the earth would flame with a holocaust of ecstasy and freedom..."

What people seem to forget, or not get in the first place, was that Lovecraft was a moral nihilist. What he describes here is quite the opposite of mankind going insane, but rather mankind becoming fully enlightened to the meaninglessness of the universe.

Well, the idea is that since Planeswalkers are the viewpoint characters, the threats associated with them are scaled up to match their powers. Son of Yog might have been a small fish in the sea ultimately, but the three professors were basically just guys.

The Eldrazi Drones can be taken care of by a goblin holding a rock. They aren't intended to be like Son of Yog. Maybe the Titans aren't actually the Azathoths or Yogs of MtG. Or maybe just Emmy is.

Emmy was always the big one. And who knows what else is out there in the Blind Eternities? Blind Eternities are the MtG equivalent of space, after all.

I like Lovecraft. But this just doesn't bother me. We got a Rats in the Walls ref, we got a Color out of Space ref. I can't get pissy at them for not going the whole "the entire multiverse exists solely on the whims of a blind idiot god".

Maro's a big fan of ridiculous designs. He may be a stickler for the color pie, but everything else he's all for. I mean, he loves Un sets for a reason.

But you know, everything needs to be marketable and an enchantment like that would have a total of 3 fans.
>>
>>48009110
T1:Neglected Heirloom
T2:Lone Rider
T3:Thalia Lieu + Equip Neglected and Swing for 3

At T4 you will have a 8/8 fs, trample, lifelink and a 1/1 that can get bigger, or even get the +3/+3 fs from the sword if Lone Rider is declarated.
>>

Let's imagine something. Imagine, if you will, that you draw this card without any way to buff his P/T. He is literally worthless. Now, I know that the deck-types that would run this card do have plenty of ways to boost P/T (Thalia's Lieutenant, Always Watching etc.), but the fact that it NEEDS those cards, not just one of them, but multiples of them, in order for it to do anything at all is a bad sign. It's not a terrible card, but I just don't think it's as good as everyone else in the thread seems to believe.

That being said, I'd wager this has a far better time against other aggressive decks, because in that matchup lifelink is just useful on its own. One very good interaction that I think a few people have mentioned already is between Lone Rider and Dromoka's Command, fighting away one of their 1/2s or 1/1s and then swinging in for two more. Now THERE'S a good way to transform him. None of that Neglected Heirloom nonsense.

I wonder why is it that initial designs always seem more exciting than the final product? Is it just because you only hear about them once the final product's novelty has faded?

Like, Mark talked about this whole cycle of colorless spells that just cost XX for RoE and I thought that was such a cool idea. Applying the "every color can do BLAH if they pay a lot of colorless for it" of artifacts to instants and sorceries.

They all got cut. They became a few cards that had X in them. Ugh.
>>
>>48012288
I mean, a game designer does his job well if it hits the right marks with the audience. I can't blame him for thinking they were being too cute for their own good.
>>
>>48012303
Haha, I looked at the comments of Reality Spasm. Direct from the horse's mouth, Aaron Forsythe:

"The idea of it was that it was a limited trick that any color could have access to. I never got to try playing with it, as it was decreed by the creative team pretty quickly that they wanted Eldrazi defined first and foremost by their hugeness and second by being colorless, so all colorless Eldrazi cards should cost at least 7 mana. Thankful for the direction, we kicked all the cheap colorless spells out. "

>Eldrazi defined first and foremost by their hugeness and second by being colorless

Well, there we go. Creative wanted Godzilla.
>>
>>48012222
The dream part of Theros was mostly a told trait. Nothing in the set really conveys that dreams are relevant.

A Dreamland set would definetly have to include transform cards as that's the most straightforward way of depicting a dream morphing into something else. Pleasent dreams turning into nightmares, nonbasics land that transform into completely different lands and whatnot.

Other than that I don't really know though.

I keep saying it: return to theros should be where they bring back merge, without regular transform cards to worry about. enchantments and creatures merge together to become enchantment creatures, actually looking larger than life as the men become the myths and legends rise up.

the story could even be about how ajani and xenagos inspire mortals to rise up against the gods usi g their own divine power, the set could be called Rise if the Demigods, and actually be pretty badass. no shitty aura focus or overpriced bestow.
also a legendary zombie and legendary spirit that merge into a planeswalker
