Because the vast majority of people in /cyoag/ assumes that you've been here long enough to know what the most popular cyoa authors are like.
For example: Bliss prefers to make fantasy cyoas and cyoas centered around political intrigue, all other genres doesn't interest him. He also likes experimenting with different mechanics, like making rolling more appealing in cyoas (that Kingdom Crusher cyoa) or implement a stat system that doesn't just encourage min/maxing (that black market trading empire cyoa), He also fucking loves lewd shit.
SDA is pretty obvious, he's an unapologetic asshole who loves redheads and anal. SDA likes designing more realistic and "gritty" cyoas, gritty in that all the options that he gives to the player makes them only above average in terms of power and capability relative to the cyoa setting and not outrageously overpowered or Mary Sueish. And he strongly believes in diminishing returns the more upgrades or points invested in an option.
Lurl or Spessrefugefag, is great at establishing settings and characterizing hundreds of companions at a time, however he's problem is he absolutely fails at balance, making sure each option can't be exploited and implementing stats (Titanlands cyoa and to a smaller extent earlier versions of Spess refuge cyoa had some teething issues due to wording).
I can go on and on but, its kind of pointless now.

Scientist from my point of view treats cyoas like a building your narrative and story, overlord and necromancy cyoa exemplifies this and even the old dragon cyoa has a bit of a story to it, there is a broad generalized plot that explains why the player is given the set of options offered and it is up to the player to either continue the plot of the story in their own way, or outright ignore it and make their own story. He mostly writes fantasy cyoas and has a bad habit of procrastinating for months and years at a time, posting WIP and permanently shelving cyoa projects due to a lack of interest.
Italic can really build a setting and also excels at characterizing companions both waifuable and nonwaifuable varieties. What he really fails at is formatting layouts for his cyoa which takes up a ridiculous number of pages, horrible cropped and irregularly sized pictures and nonexistent borders and using a shitty font for everything. In addition to putting too much emphasis on his world and companions in his cyoa and making all the other options and mechanics seemed tacked on in the last minute.

There's also Dr. Divergent, a cyoa author that doesn't appear here anymore. He's claim to fame is Powered Armor cyoa and to a lesser extent the first successful werewolf/werecreature cyoa. During the old days before pvp cyoas got so much hatred, pacyoa was the definitive pvp cyoa that all other pvp-esque cyoas were compared to. It had stats, a cornucopia of options, and so many ways to exploit and abuse the system to get your overpowered min/max'd build working, from designing armours that flew at relativistic speed s to accumulating shields on top of shields to get absolute invincibility, it had it all and encouraged people to discuss about the cyoa, experiment and come up with even crazier builds and agree upon establishing their own rules to prevent people from breaking the system which eventually lead to their own wiki, their own thread, rp system in development as well as quest threads.
The problem with Dr. Divergent was after witnessing what pacyoa became due to a lack of all balance and the sheer faggotry of designing by committee the pacyoa threads devolved into, he became obsessed with tightly controlling his own cyoas and making sure no exploits were possible. This happened to the werewolf cyoa, the earlier versions exploited taking a huge number of drawbacks based on never transforming at all or transforming only once and remaining in were form forever, people liked the earlier versions for their degree of freedom and uniqueness of the options, but he updated and hamfistedly nerfed that cyoa continuously until all the options were all generic and bland and felt nearly identical in what they did beyond one or two special abilities specific to certain wereforms but so underpowered they were seen as being completely useless.

Box Wine is a relatively newcomer in the cyoa author scene, his cyoas are often trade marked with bad spelling and grammatical structure in their descriptions, while being overall decent and enjoyable experiences contributed by the enormous amount of wine and other alcoholic beverages he consumes to fuel his imagination and to kill off what remains of his liver. Like a college frat party.
His most successful cyoa to date is Hero Academy, that drowned almost a half dozen threads in light roleplaying and academy rivalry. Seeing the opportunity for more headpats and (you)s, he is now working on hero academy DLCs. However analyzing those WIPs has revealed some startling flaws he has as a cyoa author. The first flaw is dealing with balance issues with social butterfly and hated prodigy when he released the drawbacks DLC and the second one is he is hitting the limit of his creativity with the two new schools in the major hero academy expansion with the mathematics magic option being far too ambiguous and overarching to be far and balanced compared to the other options.
How will Box Wine deal with these issues? Only time and copious amount of consumed wine will tell.

I have an idea in mind for this lore cyoa thing. But it involves partners that will go with you for a journey. That being said, given that there's going to be worldbuilding, stats and other such things, I'm a bit conflicted on the direction I should go with the partners.
Should I allow the reader to make their own partner, by purchasing powers, abilities and other such things? Or should I have a list of partners that the reader could choose from? Option 1 would give a lot more customization options, but option 2 might give an opportunity for more lore.

Hey guys, I'm thinking of doing a cyoa and I want your input. I want to try a fantasy cyoa but I don't want generic medieval fantasy. I want to do something set in classical antiquity. I have my lore set up so that the humans are basically the Roman Republic, the Greek states are elves, and the dwarves would either be gauls, or germanics. The next author is Ordion or however you spell it, the most striking thing I've noticed about him after reading his posts in the archives is he is incredibly argumentative when dealing with criticism to the point where he sounds butthurt. And that he patterns all of his cyoas after popular video games like League of legends, Dota, Warcraft 3 and Fallout.
His cyoas inherent problem is they're are too combat focused and he doesn't offer any waifuable companions, the companions that even vaguely popular tend to be too generic in description. Seriously his descriptions in general need work they come off like informal resumes. Probably due to English being his second language, I think he's Asian most probably of Chinese descent and the disjointed sentence structuring certainly is proof of that.
Ferrean is also a new cyoa author and his first cyoa, taking a unique flavorful spin on the dragon cyoa was quite popular, offering a small but lovable selection of dragonesses and dragon husbando companions. Although that cyoa suffers from balance issues, with the magic option offering far more utility and power then all of the other options combined and I found his attempt of rectifying this gross imbalance and making the magic literally mandatory to build around by buffing the other options ever so slightly to be underwhelming.
In addition his next cyoa was met with extreme vitriolic and autistic anger as he dared to use a image of a smug furry face to showcase a race description. Thankfully Ferrean has shown us his mettle and resolve and is still slowly progressing with his cyoa projects, undaunted by the hate and spite of shitposters.

Seven Sin was just your typical short cyoa, you picked your options and powers and explained how you plan to mitigate your sin's weaknesses and exploit your sin's strength. Very simple. But Quiet cyoa? Pure symbolical bullshit. I remember those brief quiet cyoa threads we had, where we played a over glorified game of hide the fucking thimble, where random anons would hypothesize how the worlds, companions and the entity offering all the options provided connected together, debating the significance of the symbols and runes used, the importance of the black and white text boxes as well as pointing out nonsensical and trivial details from deriving meaning from empty black and white spaces that proliferates the entire cyoa as well as the significance of the time of the day when Quiet anon takes a shit and wipes his ass, while we're all banging our hands together Quiet anon plays the role of the Kindergarten teacher telling the us if we're getting hot or cold. And most of the time we're dead wrong.
What got irked me the most about Quietanon was when quiet cyoa discussion was at its highest peak, he promised to expand upon it with a DLC, correcting its woefully bad grammar and spelling mistakes as well as release the complete notes to the mysteries of his setting because most of us were too retarded to connect all the dots or simply too lazy to care. And then his computer crashed and Quiet anon had to dissapear for a good spell, all the notes were gone, blue balling the majority of the hardcore quiet fans as they waited literally months for a resolution. Any resolution. And with quiet anon gone the cyoa faded into obscurity.
Quiet anon's latest cyoa project holds a lot of potential and high hopes with many of its thematic elements inspired by Quiet cyoa.
