>Wizard, here are hundreds of fun and interesting mechanics to choose from! Build your spellbook! Expect support in every supplement! Oooh, ahhh, look at these cool abilities!

>Fighter, here's +1 to hit.

Why.
>>
I posted it again!!!1!1!! LOL

I never posted this thread before.

>Why.

Because Fighters are people who have trained their minds and bodies to stand the rigors of combat and are thus able to carry the burden of armor while still being effective at swinging pointy/stabby/clubby objects.

Wizards are people who have trained their minds and bodies to channel the primordial forces of the universe and manifest it as a means to break the laws of physics.

You find new magic swords nearly as fast as you find new spells in my experience in AD&D and such, when you account for the fact that only some scrolls will be relevant to your class and interests.
>>
Are we doing this? Are we really going to respond to yet another shitty casters vs martials bait thread? Okay, fine.
At least sage it if you have to respond, so it's not bumped up to the top again..

You need to read the rules, anon. Fighters also get the most hp, excellent saves, multiple attacks, and finally armies and castles of their own when they level up high enough. It's not for nothing that Fighters were the most popular class among the old D&D playtesting crew.

This. Nothing more needs to be said.

There are only so many ways you can swing a sword.
>>
>>47719247
That's why "Thrusting" is learned at lvl 5.

I agree. But with that said are there any cool alternatives to the fighter's boons? In plenty of book there are new spells for wizards why not replacements for the fighter's abilities.
If there are any cool OSR fighter books I'd be really down to know about them.

That said some ideas might be:
>Instead of a keep the fighter gets EVEN GREATER fighting abilities. If the setting doesn't already have monk this would be wuxia levels of power or possibly raw bonuses to put them on par with mythical heros like Hercules or Sir Kay. This would only be for games where that sort of thing fits, of course.
>When leveling up the fighter can assign his combat bonus to other fields of war, similar to some versions of the their. They could assign it to attack as normal, or to leadership to improve their hirelings moral and ability, or to the realm of siege engines, or, if rangers are not already part of your game, the bonus could be assigned to specialise in killing certain types of enemies, for improving animal hirelings or reducing the penalties of armour (to a certain point)

>not learning the sword moves of the Ansu
>not knowing about the Pankratosword, which strikes in such a way as to split atoms

Look at this big dumb Nord! Thinks he knows all there is to know about fighting, as if he were one of the Barons of Move-Like-This.
I bet he'es never even heard of The Bone Shaver, much less the Vectoring Cygnet or The Threat of Mirrors!
Only one way to swing a sword indeed.

Character builds aren't really a part of OSR stuff, and thank fucking God. Its the world's last refuge from it.
>>
>>47717082
>to choose from!
Literally all in the hand of the GM.
A Wizard gets to pick his available spells as much as a Fighter gets to pick his magic swords from the magic item sections.
>>
>>47717082
Ahem! >>47713976

You should always search for "OSR" on the catalog page to make sure there's not a pre-existing thread. With that in mind, you should always post "OSR" in the text of your opening post or somebody else will search, find nothing, and start their own thread. I do, however, commend you for posting a pic that's immediately apparent as OSR. I prefer sticking with the blue tint one for the sake of consistency, but that's a small matter.
>>
>>47719575
This.

There's no metagaming in OSR. No builds or specs or class balance or any of that nonsense.

It roleplaying in its purest form.

If you want cancerous WoW style D&D then go and play 3.5 or 4e.

Addressing OP question in (pre-existing) duplicate thread, here: >>47719751

Don't drag the casters vs martials bait into other threads, anon.
>>
>>47719616
>>47719776
This isn't an OSR general. That is.
>>
>>47717082
>talking about casters vs martials
>in an OSR context
top kek, you don't even know how to bait
