With the hundreds, if not thousands, of brands of dice out there. Ranging from the dollar store, to the family board game/monopoly, to the holy shit titanium gold plated lazer etched shit show, what kind does /tg/ prefer
As it stands now I have a GW box of dice, but I'm interested in upgrading to something better in the future for near the same price range, if theres any out there that catch my eye
I also have a couple random dice I picked up at a local vintage game/MtG shop such as a D20 and a D100, just because they where cheap and looked neat to line around the computer but I never use them

I use gamescience. I have been highly satisfied with my purchases.
>>
>>47716302
I too use gamescience they are the most precise, and fair dice on the market.
Just look at this video! Would gamescience lie about gamescience dice?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJ-A5Ec-Ybs

seriously though they are good dice.
>>
>>47715854
I've always felt that ordering a shiny set of dice just isn't really right. I can't really explain it, but I feel like you need to get a set of dice that just sort of, resonates with you? The looks of the dice aren't what matters, it's if they, well, are dice that just sort of work with you.

I understand that it means completely nothing and has no basis in anything, but to me it just seems that particularly flashy dice are something that someone who either isn't involved in the games or isn't familiar with them would have.
>>
>>47715854
I bought a bunch of d10s from the FLGS for Dark Heresy. Other than that I still use the dice set that came with my D&D Black Box back in '92.

I bought three sets of these - well, my sets came with 3d6 each. I feel as though I am adequately equipped to play most games, and they are very easy to read. I lovingly refer to them as my "Simpson dice."

>>47716388

I agree. Recently, a close friend and fellow gamer told me he felt bad when he saw the dice I rolled with, because he assumed I didn't have the money to get anything better. His wife collects dice for her "dice greed," but doesn't play any tabletop games outside of munchkin. She has all sorts of flashy dice.

I have been gifted some really cool dice - metal, wooden, and all sorts of novelties. They're cool, but never going to see proper use.
>>
>>47716388
I have an affinity for well decorated dice as well however that contradicts myself. I was considering buying one of the chessex pound-o-dice and picking out the ones i like, then giving the rest away
>>47716302
never really checked out gamescience before
>>47716352
interesting video
>>
>>47715978
Same. I like the though.
>>
>>47716352
Can't believe I watched this entire video unironically and didn't even realize it was that long until it was over.

That fat goose knows how to sell. I'm now getting one pair of his dice.

d20 because d20 is the only die that matters
>>
>>47716633
>chessex opaque
Literally the worst dice you can buy. With Chessex it should be clear or nothing.
>>
>>47718247
clear Chessex aren't the only ones that work, semitranslucent ones are also balanced. Buy frosted or speckled, frosted are my personal favorites desu
>>
>>47718201
I understand why they are not hugely available, but don't like it
You can get "7 Piece Opaque Polyhedral" in pretty much every color they have, same for the 12
set of 12 d6? One color available only. purple. Not sure if they're just sold out right now or if they only release one color of d6 sets at a time.
The pound of dice they sell right now have no d6 in it

for me, I may look around for other sharp edged dice as a supplement till i can get those in the colors I want, just because I for one like the look of the sharp edges more than the rounded edge

Probably more accurate to say "anything but opaque" when it comes to Chessex.
>>
I have an enormous dice collection, with many custom dice from meteorites and kickstarters and shops overseas and beyond. But the only dice that work for me are my chessex translucents. I can't imagine rolling different dice for a game where I gave a shit.
>>
>>47715854
The only correct answer is gamescience
>>
>>47718308
They don't make many d6's because most people use casino dice if they want precision.

>tfw one of your friends who cheats anyway uses crappy chessex dice
>uses two different sets to roll for different things.
>>
Has anyone ever had custom dice made? I've been looking for a place that lets you submit multiple symbols for different sets. Like I want two with this symbol and another two with that symbol, but most seem to only take one for a batch.
>>
>>47719468
Casino Dice aren't good gaming dice, they'll wreck tables and are pretty heavy

>>

Maybe if your tables a huge bitch.
>>
What kind of dice does Vegas use? Wouldn't those d6s be the best d6s in the world?
>>
>>47719524
>>47719468
Why can't people make Casino Dice in other dice sizes?
>>
>>47719539
see:
>>47719488
Otherwise yes because they're machined to 1/5000th or 1/10000th tolerance

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRzg_M8pQms
>>
>>47719557
It requires expensive lathing hardware, if you have a friend in the area like engineering students you could probably ask them to make some for you.
>>
>>47719588
So is Game Science just not up to snuff?
>>
>>47719649
You wouldn't make money selling dice like that on a large scale to RPG players
>>
>>47715854
I make my own now, but on occasion I do buy some gamscience for competition play.
>>
>>47719649
Probably can't make any money off of it, casinos wouldn't buy from them and nerds don't buy that many dice.
>>
>>47719808
Speaking as a nerd, I'd buy artisan dice if I had the chance to get really good ones.
>>
>>47719468
Yeah, but like I said, i just like the look more than the precision aspect
>>47719508
>no d6's
welp
>>47719523
>>47719516
they're all pretty much $10 except the gork and mork set, which is $20 really not THAT bad of a price https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/search/searchResults.jsp?qty=com.gamesworkshop.endeca.EndecaUserContext%403713dad4&sorting=&view=&searchTerm=dice
>>47719539
in terms of chance, yes, pretty good. I use a felt lined box so no issue with table wrecking
>>47719743
you make your own? please detail, i'm interested now
>>
>>47719808
You know, I would actually buy from them if they ever had anything other than weird 4-piece sets in stock.

So they're not really making any money now.
>>
>>47718247
>With Chessex it should be clear or nothing.

I live under a rock.
Are the opaque ones unbalanced or low quality?
>>
Some cheap shit I got from the FLGS for RPGs when I need polyhedrals, a shitload of cheap toyshop d6's for wargaming.
>>
>>47720952
you cant see the internal flaws
>>
>>47720952
Because you can't see inside an opaque die, they tend to be much lower quality and with MUCH lower quality control. Most of them look like >>47718365 on the inside, filled with shitty, uneven filler plastic.

There have even been reports of reject dice tossed inside molds to act as plastic filler for other dice. People have cracked open dice and found another, smaller, die inside.
>>
>>47722349
>filled with shitty, uneven filler plastic.
Actually the interior deforms because of the cooling process.

Clear dice are allowed to cool evenly so that the plastic stays true through and through and doesn't form air bubbles and other deformities. Opaque dice are tossed in cooling baths and cool too quickly, causing the interior plastic to deform and form air bubbles.

They seem to have a D6 shortage at the moment
>>
>>47719557
They're heavy and roll poorly on most surfaces.

I wanted dice in a color no one else had so they wouldn't go missing. Turns out the only dice no one else had were shitty Walmart dice, so these are what I used.

Between these and my pink sleeves, I never had to worry about losing my stuff.
>>
I use d6's from Monopoly and I'm pretty sure that one of the default dice in the game is somehow made with a higher chance to get high while the other gets low rolls. So, that's cool.
>>
>>47715978
Not as cheap as wiz dice senpai. I just got that bag of 140 for 35 dollars canadian.
>>
Gamescience for my D&D, running games with tons of d6s using Koplow, most square I can find that's still affordable.
