If you were a discerning buyer but money, nor tech levels were an object and living in the distant future, what would you want in a personal space ship?

For me, I'd like:
>FTL drive capable of the equivelant speed of at least 1000 times the speed of light. (it's a big galaxy alone)
>Enough living space for six people to live comfortably
>Capable of going up to one to five years without needing to resupply or be maintained at a proper space port/dock.
>walk-in engineering/engine room so when something needs to be fixed or looked at, a flashlight and crawling won't be needed
>Dedicated medical room and auto-doc
>Enough space to hold a small land vehicle the size of a modern day sedan.
>Law enforcement grade shields/armor and weapon systems
>Quantum Communication systems (including Internet)

I could live long spans out in the wilds of space, exploring to find viable colony locations or freighting small amounts of cargo with my friends.

Personally, I agree with pretty much all of those. Though I don't believe I'd need that much space. Maybe:
>FTL
>Living space for 3 or 4
>Aquatic capabilities
>Communications

Wouldn't need medical facilities/longevity/expedient repairs because I'd likely just hop from colony to colony, staying for however long I feel like and picking up friends along the way.

I like that, or maybe like a private plane. In that lots of people own them (boats/planes), but they aren't ubiquitous like the family sedan/minivan.

I'm not sure that even in the far future of a space-faring society, private ownership of interplanetary craft will be common place.

TOR ships are amazing.

I just wish
>Had more the one bed in the Jedi ship
>Jedi Knights and Sith Insquisitors got unique ships from the consular and warrior (the current ships feel like they work fine for the latter two)
>Allowed players to change class ships (because much as I love the phantom, it is just a little conspicuous for my agent who is supposed to be an undercover dude)
>They didn't take the fucking bar out of the Phantom from the concept art
Optional:
>The ability to customize our ships just a bit (like give them paintjobs)

Agent definitely had the best storyline, ironically, because Bioware was allowed to do mostly their own thing with it.

out of all the classes, the Agent's was the one that was a completely free concept for the most part with almost no one like it existing in the Star Wars universe.

Every other class story was a product of Bioware trying to let the player feel like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Han Solo, etc. etc.

The agent story? It was beholden to no one. Plus had the unique position being officially part of the Empire without being a Sith.

Vague Story Spoilers!
So you get to experience first hand how much it can suck to not be one of those rare demi-gods of the Star Wars universe and see how other people who are not demi-gods are getting fucking sick and tired of those demi-gods.
>>
>>47700836
Really now? But it seems to me that you could still change the exterior of the ship, seeing as EVERY conversation you have while in your ship never shows the exterior for a practical reason (or at all; I can't remember).
>>
>>47700810
Well it's because a lot of freighter ships were made on Corellia, and they had that disc shape as their style. I'm personally a fan of the YT-1300, it's what we used in our Star Wars Saga Edition game.
>>
>>47700887
That's an interesting take on it. Never thought of it that way. To be honest, I still enjoyed the Smuggler story just a smidge more. Might be personal bias, seeing as I'm a huge fan of Han Solo, but it seemed to be very unique in that smuggler archetype. And I enjoy that archetype.

oh, the exterior, sure. Yeah, bit of a funny thing that. In general, that's probably being a by-product of Bioware still struggling with the engine because they licensed out an incomplete game engine. They've done impressive stuff with it (that makes me a bit excited for ESO, which is using the full version the Hero Engine) but, the developers have probably had to struggle. A lot.

And unfortunately, with the current direction of the game and it's story we're unlikely to ever see starships and such touched on ever again.

-A Jump drive, with a 25ly range
-1/4c propulsion system, with a small emission profile
-4 State rooms + Captain's quarters
-Storage for 18 months worth of provisions for 10 people
-One hell of a lot of processing power
-Sensors, lots and lots of sensors, with a strong bias towards good passive sensors
-Low observable space and atmospheric probes

>>
>>47701883
Well, it's still in the sandbox stage, but it's a pretty solid game.

Uses newtonian physics (except for with planets) and after a while flying the ships in it you get a good feel for how spacecraft are supposed to be built.

I've found that whenever I get a new ship off the workshop (steam workshop and modding support, oh yes) I take myself on a little tour to see what all of it does. Good fun.

It's difficult to condense how 245-odd hours of hard work ends up feeling in person though.

half the charm is building functional, pressurized beasts and smashing them into each other in a nicely rendered physics enabled environment. Right now it's just that, really, but the modding community is massively productive and with every update more goodies come out.

How big is a frigate?

Biggest ship I've found recently is a replica of the Prometheus, from the film of the same name. Took me about five minutes to walk around the interior and once I'd crashed it into a mountain I found that most of it was hollow.

Basically the only thing to limit how big you can build is how much your pc can take.

You DO have to pay out a lot just for propellant, rocket equation being what it is. Might up operating price considerably compared to a boat.

Most people'll probably take Aldrin cyclers and the like. You have to wait on them, but it's a lot cheaper and a lot less cramped than a proper spaceship would be.

For the most part you click on a destination and it takes you there on its own. Manual control exists but unless you're attacked you're unlikely to use it, pretty standard floaty space sim. If you like market fiddling and deep planning the game can be an amusing distraction while you do other things.

It's unlike anything you've ever played. And by that, I mean it takes every other game's good and bad parts and takes it to the extreme.

Fighting other dudes solo in a frigate is the most fun I have ever had playing a video game. Moving shit around and making money is tedious and awful (to me at least, some people enjoy that, idk how).

Market PvP is a thing and it's both incredibly dense and wonderfully interesting if you're an economist and like messing with that sort of deal.

As to ships: each one has traits, attributes, module slots and fitting space.

Traits give you stuff like "X weapon does 10% more damage for each level you have in the ship skill" or "20% better turret tracking speed," etc.

Modules are things you fit on the ship so it can do stuff. Guns, shields, armor, microwarpdrives/jumpdrives, afterburners, etc. Rigs are like modules but once they're on you need to destroy them to remove them, and you can only have 3 max per ship (only 2 on high-tech ships)

Fitting space determines how many module slots you have (up to 8 high, 8 low, 8 medium, though no ships actually have that many) and how much power grid and CPU space the ship has to fit all of that.

Most of your flying is done by setting destination and using the right click or radial menus. In solo or small fleet combat, you'll probably fly around manually by double-left-clicking in space (there are manual controls and joystick support but it's not that efficient). In larger fleets, you're probably going to just auto-pilot orbit one guy who drives the whole fleet around while you shoot stuff (or you'll be the guy flying everyone around).

The arc of fire on weaponry is large enough that manually moving around yourself isn't any more advantageous than just pointing and telling it an orbit distance

Wrong.

>>47703140
Manual flight itself is efficient. I mean using a joystick or keys to do it is inefficient.

So when you say manual flight you mean flying by clicking? What advantage/disadvantage does that have over using the orbit mechanic?
>>
>>47703334
Yes, flying by clicking.

It's complex, but basically it allows you to maintain a more precise distance and direction to avoid being "tackled" by enemy warp scramblers, stasis webifiers (stuff that slows you down). It also gives you a lot more leeway with how well your guns are hitting--if your target has a high transversal (perpendicular) velocity relative to you, your guns are going to be less accurate since they can only rotate so quickly. By positioning your ship properly you can hit better, or make them hit you worse.

essentially it just gives you more control.
>>

n no particular order

>Plenty of railguns
>An FTL drive, the faster the better
>Accommodations for crew and a company of space Marines
>More guns
> FTL communications suite
>Sufficient supplies for at least a year or so in space
>Sufficient internal cargo space for the aforementioned Marines and their associated support elements
>A space 3d printer
>An asteroid mining device to feed the space 3d printer with
>Enough thermonuclear ordinance to clear out an entire planet full of aliens
>Did I mention guns?
>A fuckload of armor to go with those guns
>An internal bridge because fuck getting mission killed right off the bat
>An observation deck right where the bridge would be
>2-4 detachable, FTL-capable "boats" for planetary landings and scouting around. Armed, of course.
>A dropship or six, also preferably armed
>An AI of some description for navigation and the like

tl;dr I want I Star Destroyer with nukes

>checking old space engineers screenshots
>it's literally just pictures of things that crashed into each other, never made screenshots of ships i built when done

feels bad

but then i found this from when you could make the game spasm out by turning in a passageway while the ship was moving, did it while crashing two of my ships together and it lodged them into each other

They have a top speed and come to a halt quite fast if the engines aren't burning. The EVE forum calculated that to make the spaceships decelerate that fast, space would have to be about as thick and viscous as motor oil.

It's essentially a submarine combat simulator with pretty space backgrounds, plus excel spreadsheets for resource management

>Interior cargo bays
>On a ship that can travel between star systems faster than light
>carries cargo around in what appears to be wooden crates
>probably carted in by hand
goddammit
>>
>>47712798
The wooden crates are probably just a diagrammatic convenience so that we know what it is.
>>
>>47712798
>>47712909
don't forget that assuming humanity is capable enough of terraforming or finding places with earth-like environs, then timber is should be more plentiful and easier to work with than making metal crates.

in general, some designs just aren't going to go any time soon.

>That guy turning the engine
>>
>>47713692

Do you get the feeling the artist had no fucking clue how planes worked, or about engineering in general?
>>
>>47713873
Clearly.

>plane has a galley serving food and drink
>journeys are long enough that there are beds
>no restrooms
>>
>>47714234
To be fair, there clearly aren't enough beds for all passengers, so it's safe to assum they're only there for naps and the like. Likewise, the ladies room isn't even a restroom, it's a makeup room.

The plane would probably be for like 3 or 4 hour luxury flights, but the lack of restrooms is still disconcerting.
>>
>>47714290
It's an Indian airline. If you need to go, just open the hatch, hang out, and relieve yourself into the designated shitting air.
