Welcome everyone, new and old players alike! This is Tundra civ, a civ thread series in a fictional, non-fantasy setting where you play as the rulers of the White Republic, a nation in a world similar to our own.

Previously on Tundra civ:
The Second World War has been waging for over 2 years now. The nations of the Occidental Axis are fighting a bloody war that has already taken the lives of over 8 million soldiers and civilians. The enemy - the mysterious Spirelords, posessing technology far beyond our own. Their robotic armies have been repelled from Aymsland, Ocras and Veita, but in Eyerdar they have gained much ground.
Last time we managed to capture the enemy's flying doomship for study. In retaliation, the enemy nuked the city of Babaduad and looted the contents of its Vault.
It is mid-1198 After the Exile, the war goes on.

We've got around a million men on each of the fronts at all times. They are periodically swapped out with forces in the rear, we have a total deployed manpower of 4 million troops in Eyerdar, our allies have about as much.
The enemy has us beat on a pound-for-pound measure in every way, but we still have a large numerical advantage at sea, where our navy has claimed several key victories during the war. The enemy's main naval power now lies in their super-advanced submarines, which they used to sneak past our defences and attack Babaduad.
On the ground and in the skies our forces hold a numerical advantage, but the enemy neither tires nor loses morale. The more ground they secure the more resources and manufacturing they gain, the more civilians they put to labor for them.
We have 5 nuclear warheads with a total explosive power of 200 kilotons, a large array of ballistic missiles and one operational doomship we are currently using for research.
Suggest war strategies for the present situation.

Well, while we're waiting for other players...
I'm thinking of making a fantasy civ quest, probably on /qst/ in the future, after I finish the story here. While in the current game everyone's jointly making the same decision, I'm thinking of making the next game less unified, maybe have players represent factions within the civ and have each faction looking after its own interests - right now we have the benefit of hindisght, modern knowledge and such that allows us to make wise decisions, so it'd be interesting if players actually had goals of their own. Factions and player interactions would be more central and they would influence the civilization's development. For instance, an aristocratic faction(or several) that seeks to gain lands and privileges for themselves.
It would be a fantasy setting so we'd have various human and non-human cultures, technological progression, deities and magic.
What do you guys think about the idea?

The enemy expected an attack through the north, it seems - we suffered heavy casualties and made no progress, but on the bright side, our allies have pushed the central front and the south has been relieved, allowing for some gains there.

The enemy's counter-attack towards Newport was beaten back soundly.
We've got reports of a strong resistance movement in enemy-occupied territory. The fact that most adults in our nation have undergone militia training and own weapons definately helps.
While the northern forces are exhausted, other fronts are now viable.

While the front is rather stale, the war industry has picked up pace with the stabilisation of trade routes. Massive developments in R&D continue as the captured doomship continues to yield useful discoveries into computing, engineering, power generation, metallurgy.
We've continued expanding our nuclear stockpile, now up to 8 warheads with a total yield of 540 kilotons. We've worked on better radar and sonar development to prevent surprise attacks like the one on Babaduad and have proceeded with dealing with the radiation from the nuclear attack on the city.
The territorial arangement is more or less the same as the last map.
Suggest some strategies and tactics, creative ideas etc.

While enemy officers and rear-echelon troops are made up of humans in armored suits, those suits feature a good degree of protection from chemical and biological weaponry. The majority of enemy forces are automatons, who lack biological components.

I propose to conventionally attack the south then circle their center bringing their northern foce down and western force eastward.
Then we strike their navy that has less support in the north and nuke em.
Then we D day at Marzhibur and nuke the inside of the pincer attack.
Also during this assault we should consider detonating nukes in high atmosphere to maximize EMP strengh and minimize radiation and negate any problem with blasting our own troops.
540kt is probably enough to generate EMP that can go throught portable EMP shielding.

A complete and total failure - the enemy was preparing for such an action - as our forces advanced swiftly, our supply lines were overextended. We encountered some of the regular, well-known automaton soldiers at first and made some progress, but that all crumbled soon afterwards. The enemy has unleashed a whole new generation of machine warriors, using the technology they gained from the six vaults they've captured. The new automatons are faster, stronger, tougher and smarter, capable of limited independent action without central coordination. Their walkers are no longer the clumsy walking cannons we knew and their air support includes far superior aircraft - swift fighters, gunships and transporters, similar to the doomships, but on a much smaller scale.
We've lost contact with most of the resistance cells, the enemy has captured and destroyed New Lakeside, Hillcoast, Silverbird and other towns that we had recently retaken.
Only our allies seem to be holding - the SA suffered heavy losses, including the renowned marshal Zhui. Their government has given control over their military forces to the Kaichou, who seem to be doing better - they have adapted to the new methods of warfare quickly and have also been making great technological progress through reverse-engineering - they are building up a nuclear stockpile of their own and overall are at least equal to us on most technological levels now.
Our forces are in full retreat at present, casualties in this operation are over 300 000 in a small period of time.

Emp are literally a great weakness they have.
No amount of reasonable shielding on normal robots could protect them again EMP.
Maybe tanks and walkers could survive if lucky, but not a single robot can survive to this in the open or even in a normal house considering gamma radiation can go through 2m of concrete.
And that's dense as fuck compared to their chassis which likely use aluminium-titanium alloys.

Our forces at the front were given last-minute orders to prepare for EMP, so as not to alert the enemy. Some damages and lost equipment have been registered, but overall the result is positive.
The nukes worked as predicted, the EMP that resulted from a high-atmosphere detonation has wrecked the electronic systems of the automatons - over 90% of enemy forces at the front are now disabled.

Our nukes disabled enemy systems for many kilometers ahead and Axis troops have advanced at rapid speed, destroying all resistance in their way. Yi Sen Shi, Honagyara and New Millport have been recaptured.
The enemy forces further west were unaffected and eventually marched forwards, halting our advance for the moment. With extended supply lines and partially damaged communication systems, we weren't able to gain quite as much as we had hoped for, but it is still a victory.

Along the way, advancing forces discovered a crashed doomship - it seems the enemy has been working on creating more of those flying fortresses. Its systems were fried and its hull has sustained much damage, most of the crew died in the crash. The wreckage will be retrieved, but we know that the enemy is still building those behemoths.
We've got a communique from the Kaichou God-Emperor. He has a grand plan of some sorts to deal with the Spirelords themselves, but for it to work he says he'll need the doomship we captured (in the previous thread).
He says the faster this is done the better our chances.

The Emperor is speaking quickly, dropping any unnecessary ceremony. He is on the phone with the President's office.

Your nukes were a success, they caused an EMP, but now you're out of nukes and the enemy still has a lot of troops and what's more - they have doomships. Between four and seven by my estimates. As we're speaking they are headed for Victory City, travelling at a very high altitude, possibly in the stratosphere, above where you detonated your nukes. They'll probably flatten your city with their own warheads or something to that effect, they want to make it quick and seize the Vault. That is the moment in which we strike - as they are approaching the vault. I have EMP weaponry of my own that I haven't used yet precisely because of this. We did what we could - around 40% of the affected areas were evacuated before the bombs dropped.
Victory City, one of the world's oldest, largest cities - a center of culture, science and industry - has been anhilated by low-orbit nuclear strikes.
But unlike Babaduad, this is something we expected and this is something we are ready for.
The Kaichou launched their EMP missiles - 4 of the 5 enemy doomships are now disabled. Enemy troops are disembarking on the surface, but our own aerial, naval and ground reinforcements, including the captured doomship - commanded by the God-Emperor himself - are fast arriving.
Another battle for Victory City is commencing!
