It's adult and nuanced. Fascism certainly is a theme. Did you like Verhoeven's Starship Troopers? This is not that. Euro PC isn't US PC.
Degenesis is not reactionary. It's just European. The makers are on social media. I don't feel them having any particular slant. They just like a vivid world.

What era do you want it set in? For a non radiation based disaster you could try using an eruption or a impact from an asteroid or comet.

Just surviving day to day is relatively tough work in a shitty mad max setting:

I'm not saying the game is fascist. I'm saying it gives off that vibe. I'm from the US. Calling something fascist here isn't the same thing as accusing someone of sedition.
I wouldn't describe Degenesis as reactionary. I'd describe it as low fantasy post-apocalyptic Europe.
