So those of you have face or play IG often enough - How will you be dealing with the surge of scions?

Their article hints that they will be able to bring troops back. Any further leak for the formations?

Their orders can make them potent additions on the field.

Will Space Marines be bringing these for any reason?
>>
>>47678429
How would you pimp a tech priest's snow mobile out?
>>
>>47678550
While I like Scion fluff they don't feel like they have enough teeth to actually be a threat to anything (when run pure and free from allies) that brings tanks and/or pieplates. Getting a unit back (likely on a roll meaning it's not a sure thing) isn't a horrible way to keep them in the fight.

Plus new units are worth kill points so that helps balance things a bit.

I'm perfectly happy to lose 1 warrior and change the 2 Stalkers for 2 Nightscythes

Daily reminder that Slaanesh is disgusting, immature and offensive, not just with it's childish portrayal with nudity, but with it's blatant misogyny and GW would do themselves a great service by removing Slaanesh from the game.

Questions for the new thread:
Do you use Terminators in your list?
How do you justify the rather high point costs for those 1W models?
>>
>>47678633

Or, and this is just me spitballing ideas, anyone who wants modern SJW ethics in a game where the main theme is war and how horrible life in that setting is, should take an eviscerator to the face.

A trans person
>>
>>47678689
>How is it the world's most random number?
Because it isn't an even number, the closest point level usually played to it would be 1250, the next step is usually 1500.

>"But I am one 38 points over"
That could be a whole transport for your opponent who built their list with the usual limitations in mind.

You can always agree to play at 1300 for anyone cares or even 1288 as long as both players agree.

what's the difference between jump, and jetpack infantry? I'm reading the rules and there doesn't seem to be a distinction between the two

>As with jump units, "Jet Pack" is not a classification in and of itself. Instead, you'll find it occurs in addition to another - Jet pack infantry for example. If no such distinction is made in a unit entry, treat the model as Jet Pack infantry

So what does that classify scourges as? Jump pack, or Jet pack?
>>
>>47678691

Both confer Deep Strike. Both allow you to ignore terrain in the movement phase if you do not begin or end the move on it. Both ignore vertical distance when moving.

Jump packs let you move farther in Movement OR reroll charge range and get Hammer of Wrath.

Jetpacks let you move 2d6 in Assault (also ignoring terrain as in Movement) and confer Relentless. You can choose to move on foot in the movement phase to avoid terrain issues, but the assault move is always made with thrusters.

a pure scion list is a lot like playing against a hyper-optimized mechanized guard list in 5th ed, but those MSU melta squads are in fast transports with carapace armor, AP3 base, and has scion orders, which are quite good indeed.

the scion is a very capable model, and their list, while barebones, contains nothing that distracts from what they do best - get to somewhere quickly and shit firepower all over the enemy. their formations, while not gamebreaking, also significantly enhance each model's performance, with the ground assault formation being quite good indeed.

they are surprisingly capable on their own, and allies - particularly inquisitorial allies, make their list quite good indeed. Don't let the lack of options fool you, the Scion list is deceivingly adaptable and works quite well on its own or as allies.

old superstition "might makes right, left makes slight". people say bless you when you sneeze because it was believed your soul would leak out if you didn't get blessed, it was also used to spread religion when the church was starting up.

i suppose there's also how it's harder to be left handed since society is 90% right so forcing kids to be right handed or ambidextrous would be helpful
>>
>>47679098
Dunno. It's from an episode of American Dad, I remember that, but in real life, I believe there was multiple reasons for the forced hand change.

Firstly, suspicion of left handed people, be it cultural or religious, which made nuns change it, either for the child's sake or for their own twisted belief.

Secondly, many teachers (not just nuns) were of the belief that left handedness was a disadvantage in a world of primrarly right handed people, it certainly was the case in the 20's on wards, where pens were ink based and would be smudged by a left handed person, even in the 90's onwards, a hot day as a left handed person would make the quick dry ink smudge as well.

So, for the fish? Probably for amusement or perhaps a personal experience the writers had. But the persecution did happen, but not everywhere.

So i'm building my first army and ill probably be playing a 750 point casual game against at least 1 necron player,1 space marine or CSM player, and possibly one or two other unknown players. That's about all the info i have for what i'm up against and i don't know what type of game we'll be playing but let me know what you think of this list/how to finish it.

>flyrant - TL devourer, lashwhip and bone sword, adrenal glands, regen, wings
>warrior x3 - rending claws, lash and sword x2, devourer, venom cannon, deathspitter, adrenal glands x3,
>gargoyles x30 - stock

That's 625 points and all the models i currently have. What should i invest in to finish this and should i not use as many gargoyles and instead use gaunts/genestealers? I know i need one more unit of troops but i also want some malanthropes/venomthropes, heavy support, and possibly some harpies/crones. Not all in this list obviously, but eventually.

So, what should i invest in/how retarded is this list?

Any and all help/input appreciated.

> Scions lists are quite adaptable and can shit firepower on everything
I will have you know that scions are complete shit that pay too much for pointless gear. They also suffer quite heavily from being a whole army of MSU deep strikers, and as such are incredibly vulnerable to reserve fuckery.

There used to be a Scions player at my FLGS, up until I stomped him so hard with my marines that he quit. They will always come on the board piecemeal, and struggle to deal with MEQ thanks to the wonders of Strength 3.

Scions are a trap. If you really want deep striking melta-spam, the best and infinitely cheaper option would be to take Inquisition allies with Arvus Lighter transports.
>>
>>47679267
Have you built the warriors already? You're probably spending too many points on them. Pick one job you want them to do, and outfit them to do that.

You'll need some gaunts to get a 2nd troops choice anyway.
>>
>>47679108
Between Scions and Dreamforge stormtroopers, i can field 75 dudes, and i've found after 1500, theres too many things that can do serious damage to them, either through heavy weaponry or weight of fire. They're amazing fun to run in the Ground Assault list, with allied Inquisitor and retinue, and aren't half bad with a volleygun command squad. We often run 2v2 games with 1000 points each, and i find thats a great points level to run them at.

Let's not start up that Black Crusade again. We all know it only ends in anger and frustration.

About half the stuff I want to play in 40k doesn't have rules. Dark Mechanicus, Sslyth Mercs, ect.

Lot of interesting/good stuff just doesn't get a chance to exist on the table sadly unless you homebrew or bend over backwards to proxy something up.

Absolutely
>Terminator Lord that was shoveled in Execution Force, TLords Cadre, and now this
I guess I can't complain
>Helbrute eating up a lot of the value of the box
They're shoving this kit in every new thing CSM it seems.

I can't complain about the SC:CSM since there's still a $33 savings for three units of stuff that will get fielded, but it just feels like we got so much more in most other SC boxes, especially Astra Militarum and Nurgle Daemons.

you know how many a full tac squad of bolters kills?

TWO. It kills two marines.
>>
>>47679345
That's my opinion too. It could be much better, but it could be way worse. Overall, it's a solid introductory box for people wanting to play CSM.

Besides, it could be;

START COLLECTING!: Crimson Slaughter

>Kranon the Relentless
>4 Chaos Chosen
>10 Possessed
>>
>>47679326
my findings are much the same at yours, they don't scale up well outside of 1000 points on their own, but the catalyst comes from then allying other lists. The synergy the scion codex posseses with the other imperial lists is quite good, and I often use them as a 'third ally' for my armored battlegroup.

deepstriking obsec carapace armored BS 4 models with meltaguns work quite well in a tank heavy list

They suffer more at higher points levels, but you don't NEED to deploy in pieces. A line of twin linked or rending volley guns can be pretty good. Inquisition psybolt chimeras and razorbacks give shooty shield walls. Valkyries are good.

My hope was suggestions like "Oh well that Captain from the Dark Vengeance kit with the combi-plasma kinda sucks, don't use it" or "For a 500 point game use the librarian, a tactical, and the dreadnought and when you get a bit more familiar with the rules try a 750 using ____"
Unfortunately my questions kind of have been split among 3 different threads so I don't know what I should ask again (since what if someone from the old thread is in this thread and is like "I already answered that, jackass") as to.. get whoever wants to help on the same page or.. what. I am, as you can see, painfully new to the hobby. I bought a BA Battleforce and split the Dark Vengeance kit. Everything plasma is snap fit so changing them will be rather difficult since the only tools I currently have are... a set of brushes (acquired all of 2 hours ago), a flush cutter (that I didn't get until I got my battleforce, used a shitty barely sharp knife for the DV kit), and some krazy glue from the local pharmacy.

Anyone else think there is potential for an interesting rag-tag bunch of pissed off Traitor Marines in this?

>Failures and cripples invariably lose the fickle attention of their mortal and immortal masters alike, and without the blessings of the Powers of the Warp to mend their limbs or knit their broken bodies together with mutations, the Oath-Broken are forced to fashion their own crude replacements: blades sutured to stumps, xenos appendages crudely grafted into empty sockets and ragged armour patched with whatever material the Eye of Terror deems to provide.

unfortunately i have built them already, same with my tyrant which i'm really kicking myself for. I'm debating on just creating a whole new style of army for a 750 point game and then building up my flying army for a bigger point game.

Could I build them up to 1500 before bringing in daemons? Just a small Nurgle Daemon detachment with some of those Drones and Nurglings would be cool

5 scions deep strike into rapid fire range of your 5 marines. Generally I wouldn't strike lasguns on anything, since the volley guns don't salvo. But with your hypothetical example, some quick math hammer tells us that each scion has roughly 1/3 chance to kill a marine, with two shots each that's 2/3. Statistically your 5 marines are gonna get shot the fuck up before they even get a turn. Overwatch is going to be a tougher story, but I think the scions still have a fair chance.

Though personally if I saw bolt pistols I'd be chilling at 24" with the volley guns.

Have you even played 40k?.. Every space marine in the entire game, from the lowest of scout marines, to captains, has a bolt pistol. Tacticals, Scouts, Devastators, Assaults, even Sternguard vets. They all have a bolt pistol.

So you're saying you would never deep strike into rapid-fire range for fear of being charged? That's impressive.

Two captains is baggage. One is already tenuous but gets a pass for being fluffy and a decent melee commander. Swap them between different games if you feel like giving them some air, or take the modular captain and try dolling him up into another commander, like a chaplain or a sanguinary priest.

You should also think about relics to hand out to your commanders. Veritas Vitae and Valor's edge are worth mentioning and are available to you based on your models (e.g. declare the power sword as a valor's edge). This gives you options to play with.

I wrote a 500pt list for you way back when you first bought the box, but let's try a 750pt one that lets you use both useful and fun looking shit.

HQ

>Captain, 140pts
Artificier armour, hand flamer, Valor's edge
>Librarian, 90 points
Mastery 2

Troops

Tac squad x10, 165pts
Flamer, heavy flamer, hand flamer
>Tac Squad x5, 85pts
Plasma cannon

Elites

>Furioso, 130pts
Fists, Frag cannon
>Death company, 140pts
Power weapon, power fist.

750pts on the nose. Fun list that uses moderately tough infantry with a melee bite to close the gap, might be fun against demons. Plasma cannon provides a simple backfield to fuck packed infantry. The dreadnought draws fire. Add in Terminators when you reach 1000pts for an anchor.

Attach Librarian and Captain to the Death company and actively crash into the enemy commander. Shit should be cash.
>>
>>47679548
They kind of are. 100 points base, for two attacks base, and, no matter how you equip them, there's a decent chance it's going to become worthless at the first glance. You can't put them in melee, because if they get hit with a krak grenade, they might immobilize themselves and you'll lose them next turn (plus you don't have a good way to get them there anyways), while the lack of decent ranged options means they kind of suck there too.

That's probably because most marines players are too hesitant to charge things, not realizing that marines are even more survivable in melee than they are in shooting.

When I played games against Scions, I actually fired bolt pistols/grenades and charged more often than I fired the actual bolters. Scions don't get Ap3 in melee, and deep strike makes them -extremely- vulnerable to frag grenades and plasma cannons. Even better for me since my personal meta includes Plasma Cannon/Gun on every squad.

great way to spend 170 points, 8 peices of bubble wrap around 2 plasma weapons with different ranges

you mean you don't like your 2003 CSM squad or your 1999 berserkers?

honestly if you want to play CSM just buy loyalist or space wolf kits and chaos them up a bit. They will look tons better than that shit old kit

I'm sure somebody is going to ask, specificly, do smoke launchers/ daemon engines get cover/invul saves and they will say, "Of course!"

The apothecary getting regular command squad upgrades is not only OP, it's also nonsensical as fuck and goes completely against how the rules work.

Just another example of why these FAQs are retarded. It's like saying you can buy non-terminator shit after upgrading your guy to a terminator.

Is that you saying "Good luck but don't sweat it, just do what you can and move on to the nicer parts of the hobby"? Or an attempt at making me paranoid?
>>
Is there a youtube channel that actually does unit reviews? not just some unboxing and personal opinions saying "huh I think this is pretty cool that's why I bought it", and instead more real battle testimonies like I've used this in X situations and it works alright and this ones suck most of the time and don't do anything etc.
>>
>>47680356
yeah, right.

i hope this other guy enjoys babysitting his 15 point plasma cannon boat anchor with 8 peices of bubble rap and a 24" rapid fire plasma gun behind cover for 170 points.
>>
>>47680376
it was pretty clear that they did not understand that the question applied specifically to command squads, and though we were referring to apothecaries in general, even though there was only one listed in the entire codex.

I don't think these guys know what they are talking about and have difficulty wording their mechanics precisely enough.
>>
>>47680396
better double check just in case

or don't, it probably won't be that visible after you paint it
>>
Its almost as if they put their marketing/creative team in charge of writing the rules...

But they wouldn't rely on people with only passing interest in the game and a casual knowledge of the hobby to write the FAQ's, would they?

Naaaaawww
>>
>>47680396
don't sweat the small details. i still leave some moldlines on from time to time. doesn't help that some are in impossible to reach spots

also you'll start to notice mold lines on things like pipes
>>
>>47680445
Well, I'm looking over the whole bit but after I finished them all I will give them a quick look over before I start converting things. Just wish it wasn't so fucking boring and tedious y'know? It really puts a massive bottleneck on fun, but anyway. Quality demands time and effort. The result will be great in the end and I don't want to get there and kick myself in the ass for taking shortcuts.
>>
>>47680126
I don't know if those Drop Pod responses could have been less helpful. I'm assuming this means Space Marine players basically get to pick whether they want to make a wall or a giant area of impassible terrain whenever they deploy their pods now.
>>
I mean, why spend money on a writer or game designer, when you can just give a fan a "free internship" at the company and have them work for peanuts?

Its not like a wargame actually "needs rules" or anything...
>>
>>47680471
Yeah I have and I know. Thanks man. The most annoying mouldlines right now for me are the ones between the Fire Warrior belt and chestplate (that teeny tiny crevasse) and the muzzle of the Pulse Rifles.
>>
>>47680327
Nigga it WAS a valid question, and that's why it got answered in this FAQ.

That's why things like FAQ's are important, as they can settle unforseen disputes that the writers might not realize at the time of writing.
>>
>>47680268

>>

Fucking stupid. You should not get to block LoS just because you were a dumb faggot and glued your pod shut. If that's the case, then fuck you, you have to take a test to disembark your solid wall drop pod and you also can't shoot your weapons out of it.

That last answer is literally "read the rulebook you dumb fucks".
>>
>>47680554
You could easily give a far more specific answer to this question.

>The gun is mounted on a 45 degree swivel mount and has a 90 degree angle of fire from its forward facing to reflect the land speeders maneuverability.
>>
>no formations for crusader squads

BT players may as well give in and run white scars tactics now
>>
>>47680126
Damn, Drop Pods are now even MORE broken.
>>
>>47680527
I don't think they actually understood the question.
>>
Any word on when we'll get the CSM FAQ?

I don't expect anything major from it since the book lacks any really unique rules and has no formations to make people ask questions but they still might decide to nerf the fuck out of them somehow.
>>
>>47680598
they can still run tac squads.
>>
>>47680552

That's fine, but they shouldn't block LoS just because you prefer the way they look. What if I prefer everything prone? Should my Imperial Knight get to hide behind a fence because I made my entire army crawling?

I was reading in 1d4chan some Black Templar awesomeness, so I decided to go check the offcicial website to see how theyr minis are

>THERE ISN'T FUCKING ANYTHING (but for da Emprah's paladin, a conversion kit and some dudes)

Why?? How this can be??
They are one of the most representative Space Marines, the literal crusaders on a plot where super armored knights protect humanity, why GW wants them to dissapear?
>>
>>47680518

It wasn't a valid question. The asker even knew the answer as shown by his putting in the parenthesis. If the Baleflamer were a typical flamer weapon, it'd be listed as such. GW had plenty of time to put it in the 7E BRB or KDK rules. Yet they didn't. The "it would've been put in the flamer section if codex CSM were newer" doesn't even work anymore.
>>
>>47680645
>waah waah waah
>>
>>47680629
We're going to lose Kranon for good. I'm not really sure what else they could possibly nerf. Maybe some weird restriction on placing Marked units with Khorne Daemons from KDK and/or restrictions on putting Psykers in KDK units?
>>
>>47680668
how is a baleflamer any different than a flamestorm cannon?
>>
>>47680126

The drop pod door change is retardedly good.

Since drop pod doors count as part of the model, you now get to disembark that much further from the petal tips. IIRC a drop pod is almost 6" long. That's double disembark length.
>>
>>47680690
Did you not read the FAQ response? Baleflamer isn't just burning promethium.
>>
>>47680690

Flamestorm cannons don't melt your soul.

>how is weapon X with the same stats as weapon Y but slightly different, different from weapon Y

I dunno you tell me. Heldrakes don't come with Flamestorm Cannons for a reason.
>>
>>47680093

Did they get rid of the 'roll of 1 is always a failure' rule?
>>
>>47680668
and how does the "soul blaze" rule differentiate itself from any weapon that has ongoing damage? You could say a flamestorm cannon has "soul blaze" and mechanically it'd be exactly the same fluffwise
>>
>>47680649
Because they are terrible at deciding which chapters should get a codex. Seriously, the BA and the DA are (or were, before they received tons of snowflakes) basically codex chapters with a few quirks and could be rolled in the main Space Marine codex as an alternate list.
>>
>videos making it look easy as shit to scrape moldlines off
Well.. how hard can it be
>Captain's arm falls off while trying to get a mold bit off
I think drinking a red bull before doing this was a poor decision... too twitchy. Was hoping the local Michael's would have some shit for me, other than an x-acto knife though it had nothing. Not sure what hobby stores to look into, googled it and found vape shops and remote planes.
>>
>>47680093
Can someone photograph the Blessing of the Omnissiah special rule from the current SM Codex for me?

In the German translation the line of getting +1 for each Servitor with a servo-arm is missing.
>>
>>47680707
that is almost certainly not what they intended.

that question was worded to intentionally skirt that exact interpretation of the rules.
>>
>>47680126

>>
>>47680649
