How would you run a Malal army?
>>
Which is your most beloved unit in your army?

Which one has net you the most points ever?
>>
>>47672326
My Deredeo dreadnought, Ancient Valentine. His current average is 500 points of killed models per game, while his all-time record is 1600 points. This is a 255 point model that is so badass, I named him the captain of my first company.

Use a Chaos version of the Grey Knights. Malal and his followers are against everyone, but they love to fight their fellow Chaotics the most. They should be able to use the CSMs' lackluster codex against them. Just give every Son of Malice model a book instead of proper weapons, and have them beat other CSMs to death with their own codex.

I'm still looking in to which since certain companies have certain units. I'd feel pretty full of myself if I made a first company squad so I might go for something like a 3rd or 4th that still has the troops I want but... ya know.. Where should I get my lore on Blood Angels? The codex has nice shit but I need more. Also I kind of want this to be MY army. Obviously it needs to fit the lore but I don't want to feel so restricted

>>
I am looking to see where I can drop 25 points from this casual list so I can replace the power weapon on the lord with terminator armor

>996 pts Combined Arms Detachment (CSM)

>80 pts Chaos Lord, Power Weapon <Warlord>
>355 pts Chaos Space Marines, 15x additional Chaos Space Marine, 20x Mark of Slaanesh, Icon of Excess, Power Weapon (Champion)
>52 pts Rhino, Havoc Launcher, Combi-Bolter
>50 pts Cultists
>64 pts Cultists, 9x Autogun, 1x Flamer
>64 pts Cultists, 9x Autogun, 1x Heavy Stubber
>121 pts Chaos Space Marine Terminators, 2x Combi-weapon (Melta), 1x Combi-weapon (Melta) (Champion), 1x chainfist
>70 pts Obliterator
>70 pts Obliterator
>70 pts Obliterator

the rhino is the visual centerpiece of the army, don't really want to drop it

taking away all of the weapons from the cultists would do it, but man, naked cultists just feel so useless, even as objective holders.

feel no pain marines still have their bolters... could take away their markes and feel no pain, but even at the absurd price the FNP is a great value

yes I've already been told I will get tabled on turn 2 and that my terminators and oblits will just scatter everywhere

That's kind of what's so fucking addictive and fun about this hobby. Yeah you should follow the lore and stick to the detachments... but it's your fucking army. As long as its within reason, you can do whatever the fuck you want. If I want to make the forgotten Blood Ravens My Little Pony faggot rainbow army that rides ponies in to battle, I fucking can. I'll start researching 5th company so I can follow it closely, seeing as I also have a bike squad, a librarian, and a terminator squad I'll have to kind of go outside of what's listed for 5th company but.. Daemonbanes sounds excessively appropriate and will spur my friend to dig deep in to Nurgle lore to make his own army more unique.

My favorite unit is either Death Company with jump packs, or the GUO.

The most effective unit is either the old tri-plas Executioner with Pask or Wyverns. Most points ever goes to a double melee Knight that rampaged through a Tau gunline throwing Riptides and stomping Pathfinders. It was like 1200 points in 3 turns iirc.

the ard coat isn't about sticking but rather both getting a uniform finish and protecting the transfer

You should learn better, I did them and I'm glad I started.
But you could just stick all the weapons on and clarify what's what to your opponent.
>>
>>47672540
>>64 pts Cultists, 9x Autogun, 1x Flamer
>>64 pts Cultists, 9x Autogun, 1x Heavy Stubber
Thats not how it works, the flamer/stubber and the champ both cannot have the autogun upgrade, so you need 8xAutogun instead.

consider changing Chaos Lord to Chaos Sorceror. Termi armor for Sorceror costs only 25pts since he already comes with a force weapon. you will however loose fearless which is good if you want to stick the lord in the bigass marine squad.
Also there is no such thing as power weapon. Which one do you want? Axe, sword, lance or maul. Most people I know will want you to specify that during listwriting.

As for your question exchange the chainfist of the termi-squad for power maul, as they usually die fast and drop 1 or two of the slaanesh marines. Also consider dropping the autoguns for autopistols on the flamer squad and have them ride inside the rhino. Tankshock and flame your way to victory.
>>
>>47672724
Also if you do not follow the lore, consider that the lore means the 5th ca 999M41 so you could easily say its the 5th company from like 2500years before that. So you have much more room for <things were different back then>

So a few threads ago someone asked why my Captains didn't have artificer armor. Do you have to make your dudes look a certain way for artificer armor or do you just say "btw this guy is wearing artificer armor"?
>>
>>47673246
You can just say it, most players will expect them to have it anyway.
>>
>>47673204
copy pasted some old version of the list about the autoguns, so that shaves off two points

the chain fist was so they could do stuff after their combi-weapons run out, if they live at all

as for the power weapon: sword so he can strike at initiative. I am too used to the old versions that didn't differentiate, but for what it is worth, the codex just says "power weapon"
>>
>>47673246
paint him up slightly different, my bloodcrusher champ has a blue sword for a gift instead of red and he's white so he stands out
>>
>>47672319
Dark Angels.
>>
>>47672326
Beloved? Space Turkey with Disco Stick.

Most points? Pink Horrors. Last game I had a single unit take out two Knights.
>>
>>47673258
Chainfist: I know, but sorry, they won't live more often than not. Also power maul is free and gives you 3 S6 attacks on the charge. Per model. Enough to open most tanks, as your melee hits the rear armor by default (Mostly 10). Power Axes give you S5 but that sweet AP1 for fightin against other termis or similar things. Chainfist simply costs too much for something dubbed <suicide termis>

Power weapon: But the rulebook says you need to differentiate, mostly look @ model but this was established because some clowns convieniently brought 3 models choosing the most useful option after they saw the opponents army. So its just good practice to state beforehand what you think.
>>
>>47673258

lightning claw is only better against MEQ if you have more than 3 attacks, otherwise pistol and sword is better

>>47673336
I know what you mean, but at 1000 points the odds that they will live past one turn seem much better

the maul also does not give an extra attack unless paired with a pistol
>>
>>47673349
No it wont, the power sword gives an extra attack if combined with the bolt pistol, for a lightning claw, the character needs a second specialist weapon, which he does not have. Furthermore OP wanted to save points to turn the lord into a Termilord. A lightning claw for a termi lord is *more* expensive than the power sword.
>>
>>47673409
>I know what you mean, but at 1000 points the odds that they will live past one turn seem much better

Never claimed otherwise, Termis have 2 attacks base and the 3rd is the bonus attack for charging.

The volley gunners, flamers and inquisitor chill behind them as a shield wall. They pump out 3 twin linked s6 heavy Bolter shots each (with psybolts). Better side armor than chimeras and a good middle ground of firepower between chimeras and rhinos. Plus the inquisitor can take them for only 40 ppm + 5 each for psy bolts.

My plans tomorrow are to basically acquire all the tools I'll need to get super serial about my army. That said, what should I do to fix my army before I paint them and lose any desire at all to change it? I just noticed why the lightning claw isn't the best idea. I'm a bit too tired to scroll through the rules and my codex but would a hand-flamer and power sword be better? Bolt pistol and chainsword is just too boring to me and since another anon informed me if you freeze these suckers it should allow me to pull some pieces off, can I survive with the hand-flamer and power sword? I also slapped a storm bolter and power sword on to my sergeant which was fairly effective at mowing down my friend's cultists, is that fine? Chances are I won't be able to play anyone else for a while so my army doesn't need to be tournament level although I also don't want to have a retarded gimped army either.
>>
>>47674233
They are open topped. Hit it with a meltagun and it has a 50% chance of popping there and then. ObjSec is unreliable unless you are abusing scatter mitigation or have shittons of pods, and if it scatters off of the objective then it may as well just be some deployable cover because a single storm bolter is not scary.

Agree on the grenade nerf though.

>>47674174
Sort of yeah thinking of a super counter.

But i was also thinking about an army build that could field mostly strong units, as in everything is a threat on it's own and it's dangerous to most other enemy units, rather than oh looks I can just ignore all this shit because they can't even hurt me, I'll just spam my strongest shit to his strongest shit and hope I can destroy it before he can destroy mine, so even if he manages to roll good you're still left with strong units that will never stop being a threat to his army and can manage to hurt him, secure objectives, table him out if you roll well and he performs poorly.

I know I'm probably over thinking just expecting to find something cheesy that hasn't been exploited already, I just been watching a lot of battle reports and what I don't like is how people can just get rid of big threats and then they pretty much just won the game, I kinda want to always be a threat even if they got lucky with rolls and what not.
>>
>>47674277
>Hit it with a meltagun
It's a transport that you put wherever you want and end it's purpose on entering. Once it deploy, its job is done. And it's 35 pt.

I've found that that two Grav squads in a Skyhammer is overkill. Those guys are only really going to get one volley in before they get killed/tarpitted, and you don't really ever see more that one Land Raider or TEQ squad or other stuff that they're optimized to kill. I'd take one of the squads as Melta instead. They're still incredibly deadly against basically anything, and they're more effective than Grav against the ubiquitous Knight allies. It also frees up 100 points to spend elsewhere.

>>

>What does /tg/ consider the best way to carry mini's around?
I like the storage boxes from Feldherr. Cheap and effective. I can catalog everything; i have a box for Marines, one for Cultists and Lesser Daemons, one for 30k, etc. So I can bring only what i need.
Then a huge sport bag from a chinese shop (12€) to bring everything.

>Are the GW carry boxes worth investing in?
Probably yes. If you don't feel the need for differentiate what you have, the new boxes are pretty cool. Expensive, but you can bring vehicle easily, thing i can't do.

>Hows about vehicles with spiky bits?
I recycle old plastic cases, usually for old tools and stuff, and cut some foam by hand.
Not the best solution, but it works.
You can go with the pluck foam and storage boxes too, but it's hard to optimize the thing.

>Just throw everything in a toolbox and hope for the best?
For the Dark Gods, no!
>>
>>47674737

>>
>>47674737
>What does /tg/ consider the best way to carry mini's around?
Depends on the minis. If you are transporting a handful of reaper minis, consider the small chessex case.

if you are transporting a kill team or small army, the GW skirmish case is pretty good

The larger GW cases do well for most armies, but excessively spikey armies may need pluck foam or specialized cases.

I personally don't like pluck foam at all. It feels cheap.

I like cases with hard exteriors, but some people don't. If you get a case with a hard exterior, don't leave it unattended or else normies will steal it thinking it is either a gun or a camera.

>Are the GW carry boxes worth investing in?
I like them a lot. I can fit 1000 points (a rhino and some 50 miiniatures) in a GW skirmish case, albeit just barely.

Pluck foam cases are surprisingly expensive, often more than the GW cases, and lack the hard exterior like the GW cases have.

You can also get custom cut foam. Obviously these will fit the best, but they cost the most.

>Hows about vehicles with spiky bits?
use something pluck foam or custom sadly. GW cases really like regularly shaped models.

>Just throw everything in a toolbox and hope for the best?
No, but if you do tournaments foam trays in a tool box are nice because you can sit on the tool box when you get tired

RULES:

Furious Charge
Skilled Rider
Precision Shots/Strikes

WARGEAR:
Hypersonic Deathbike
Power Sword
Krak Grenades
Warp Rider: Doomrider always begins the game in reserve.
He may choose to deploy from reserves normally, or may deploy via deep strike.
If he deploys this way, he does not scatter, but may only fire snapshots that game turn.
Any game turn that Doomrider enters the field, he gains the shrouded special rule.
Doomrider may never join or be joined by other units.

Hypersonic Deathbike: A bike armed with a twin linked plasmagun. Doomrider may forgo shooting
to instead turboboost up to 48 inches. If he moves in this way, enemies may only fire snapshots
at him until your next player turn, and enemy charges against him will suffer a -8 modifier.
Doomrider may pass over enemy models while making this move. Any non-skimmer/flyer unit he passes over
takes d6 automatic S5 AP3 hits with the Ignores Cover and Rending special rules, allocated as per shooting.

High-speed Detonation: When Doomrider is reduced to 0 wounds, his controlling player may place a flamer template
over him, facing in the direction the model is facing. Any model under this template takes an automatic s5 ap3 hit
with the rending special rule. Doomrider is then removed as normal.

Hey guys, going to make a new army.
1850 points is the point, slanesh themed IG with CSM allies.
Firing lines/artillery from IG, CSM for everything else.
Any recommendations for units to look at? i'm thinking noise marines in land raiders, and having a hellhamer setup like this. .
>>
>>47675255
Instead of IG use IA13 Renegades and Heretics.
>>
>>47673808
Difference: British cops are more trusted because they shoot less people.
>>
>>47675255
Definitely don't use IG, use Renegades and Heretics. They're a fully fledged army of Traitor IG with a lot of great chaos themed choices for their units.
>>
>>47675339
While I agree, IA13 has its strong points, it also has drawbacks. One of them: No Hellhammer. Baneblade only, no other variants. The lists are also often weaker then IG, because IG has orders and stuff.
>>
>>47675367
>hellhammer
>wanting the pussies version of the best baneblade variant
stormsword is where its at
>>
>>47674737
>What does /tg/ consider the best way to carry mini's around?
I have a pluckfoam Feldherr and the big GW case. Recommend the latter, as you can bring different models every time without needing one pluckfoam layer for every set.

Are the GW carry boxes worth investing in?
The normal ones yes, I think the hard case is too expensive. That is true, unless you have many bigass models like flyers who will need 2 foam.layers to transport. Then it gets full rather quickly. And putting your stuff back into it, takes quite some time

Hows about vehicles with spiky bits?
Urgh. Either the foam will rip, or the spikey bits will rip off. Either way, maybe wrapping them in soft paper prior will help. I deliberatly did not use many spikey stuff for that reason.

Just throw everything in a toolbox and hope for the best?
Hope is the sure step on the road to disappointment. Especially when painted minis are among them. Unless you like 'battledamaged'. Doubly so if you have bigger metal models. Then you can kiss everything goodbye.
>>
>>47675386
Op wanted it. With IA 13 it matters not, its baneblade or Malcador. No shadowsword, Banehammer or whatever else you want. Traitors do not get that. Baneblade makes your dudes fearless, though.

Welcome to the world of SoB. Just stack something heavy, like small pieces of some metal or lead, underneath their bases and you should be fine.

>I just like snake nids
This very badly makes me want to get some tyranids to paint.

Any other infos on further Start Collecting boxes?
>>
>>47676470
Why would you assume that magical effect that renders one undetectable by visual means would only affect things the see in spectrum of light visible to humans?
>>
>>47676527
Well Scions-one are released at the same time (Taurox, 10x Scions and a Comissar. Best value out of all the boxes so far) but no news about any other boxes.

Its warp-fuckery. Laws of physics literally mean nothing to them. As far as the real effect goes, it might be anything from light-bending invisibility, looking like shrubberies, looking like your old schoolmates or just not really being there for 5/6 of time.

>Its warp-fuckery. Laws of physics literally mean nothing to them
That was my point.

It's a part of the Telepathy discipline; it's probably more of a "people won't notice you" effect than a "literally bending light around you" type effect.

I saw that, too, pretty good deal, 40+% value, but I hoped for maybe D/Eldar or Harlequin related.
>>
>>47676591
Ah true, I was just thinking what armies still lack them. Since Scions got their own one then theres hope for Harlies, too.
>>
>>47676578
What really doesn't make any sense is that you can drop bombs on them, but you can't drop shells on them, or spray fire in their general direction.
>>
>>47676515
yeah it looks like i've got a job on putting these together, in the meantime i'll just get to work cleaning the models up.
>>
>>47676647
Just wait till you get Exorcists. Dear fucking lord. Welcome to the pinning-hell.

pinning the best option for putting these arms on?

I'm getting back to 40k mostly to paint and maybe get some games. I have enough points to make 3000 points of foot slogging Black Templars back in third edition.
The thing is I'm starting SoB mostly for conversion and painting something else beside black and white.

Right now I have enough girls to make 8 meltaguns, 2 flamers, 2 heavy flamers, 2 combi melta, 2 combi flamers and 4 boltguns.

Between 4 Rhinos that can be easily modify into any rhino base tank, land raider crusaders.

Suggestions? Ideally 500-1000 pure sisters but a combination of fanatics is fine.

>Not black and white
>>
>>47676892
What scheme are you painting them in? (As I assume it's not the default one due to, you know, black and white.)
>>
Livonian Sword-Brothers for Black Templars. How do you pull such a thing off without it being heresy and legion-building?
>>
All walkers should be AP2 in melee. They should also all get smash attacks (they might do this normally sometimes I forget what's just our houserule and what's not) and Hammer of Wrath.
>>
>>47676935
Main armor white since I hate my self, the soft armor and cloth pastel pink.might change it to a red but not sure.
>>
>>47676969
Nice 69's
>>
>>47676969
all the relevant ones are already ap2 thanks to their weapons

the nonrelevant ones don't need close combat buffs, because they'll only ever enter combat to tie up units indefinitely

Walkers need some way to protect themselves from hullpoint loss, beyond single-use smoke launchers and praying for enough cover on every other turn.
>>
>>47676973
I wanted to do the all silver sisters but also wanted to try the new golds on my living saint and I think that would make the army clash.
>>
>>47677018
This. AP2 eldar war walkers and imperial guard sentinels would just be silly.
>>
>>47677018
Except Weapon Destroyed can make them lose their AP2, unlike MC...
>>
So I ordered the Betrayal at Calth to start my Battle Company and was wondering if I geared the Termis out with DW Knight Maces and Shields would the be fine as Count As or would people expect me to use the new rules they released for whatever that version of termis is called.

What are people's thoughts on the Assassins' rules currently? They look fun to have but not super competitive for the point count.
>>
>>47677196
eversor is straightforward if mediocre
callidus ranges from amazing to terrible depending on how your dice go
vindicare will miss half of his shots
culexus is the only one even approaching being worth his points

I like using them all, though. They're interesting, which is important.

Spent two months so far just trying to sell my old tau stuff, no one wants to buy my crisis suits because they're not riptides or ghostkeels.
>>
>>47677189
With the rules and such now for cataphractii patterned terminators you'll be running Count As, which isn't necessarily bad, but it could lead to confusion if you expand into Tactical Terminators / actual cataphractii pattern terminators.

Alhough right now only Assault Terminators get Storm Shields so you should be good.
>>
>>47677196
Same problem that Solitaires have. Too many points invested into a single model that can't hide in a unit / dies too basic fire.
>>
>>47677220
The Vindicare is a nightmare if you play Dark Eldar.

>Oh hey, don't mind me. I'm just going to put an automatic AP2 Penetrating hit on one of your vehicles every turn, from the other side of the bard. No, you don't get a cover save.
