I got the PDF a few days ago from that International RPG thread. I'm about half way through it, and I was literally in the process of making a thread.

If you can get passed the accent, this is THE ONLY video that talk about it. Decent breakdown. Also, Varg commented on it and apparently likes it.

You can find the PDF in the pdf archive thread actually.

It's basically a darker Witcher like setting with a nonlinear character creation and what I would call "rules medium" system. For example, you have stat blocks for enemies, but you don't have individual ones for each enemy - as players deal with the threat, it can represent them defeating part of the group. Character creation let's you chose one thing you like and build around that however you want as well.

If you like European folklore, terrifying monsters, and a small but tightly packed setting, it's awesome.

The base book and a few modules are all translated into English and all the books are planned to be released.

Setting seems fun have been wanting to run a darker campaign for some time and this is giving me some cool ideas. System does not look like it bring much to the table in terms of rules. It is nice to see the default player races get a re do with them being human, changeling, ogre and goblin instead.

>>
Anyone have a rundown of the mechanics? The art style intrigues me and I've been itching to play fantasy, but the last time my group tried DnD, we'd be spoiled by better systems and couldn't even finish a session.
>>

>>47662626
Elves have no part in any known society, they're strictly, more or less feral, hazards of the Davokar forest.
The changelings or some sort of elf hybrid though, but have very few similarities with true-born elves. They've more in common with the Eberron changelings?

There's optional rules for the "stable aberration" of duck humanoids, Andriks. They first showed up west of Alberetor, believed to be created through some grand magical crime against nature, some centuries ago or so? They live poor, menial lives, and have spread though waterways to other harbor cities while some have even taken to piracy.
They're fairly small and diminutive, often overlooked in the heat of battle but can through their unnatural appearance or shrill, harsh voices easily taunt opponents. They simply have a talent for making others lose their tempers.
>I.e. "aggro management" traits, ruleswise.

Andriks are almost certainly a reference to the early days of Drakar of Demoner, where duck humanoids where a somewhat jokingly included but quickly established PC option.

In short? Roll a d20, try to get underneath the score you have for that ability. Want to push a heavy box and have, I don't know, 15 Strength? Roll a 15 or under to do it. Have 5 strength? Good luck rolling under 5 to do a basic task, but that's a testament to how frail you are if you have 5 strength.

That number goes up or down by up to five depending on how difficult it is to move. Easier challenges (a lighter box) increase the number you're trying to beat since it's easier to get under, say, 18, than 15, Harder challenges decrease the number.

tldr; read the book

It's a quasi-oldschool dark fantasy rpg set in a kingdom founded by refugees who fled across a mountain range from their war-ravaged homeland bordering an immensely ancient and ridiculously evil forest. The main focus of the game is based on launching expeditions into the forest to plunder the treasures left behind by an ancient empire that collapsed for unlnown reasons. Basically, if the fair folk elves don't kill you, then some horrifically corrupted monstrosity or even the forest itself will. And if you somehow make it past all that, then whatever treasure you may have looted from an abandoned crypt will probably drive you into a homicidal rage while causing your skin to slough off.

Despite the obvious edginess of what I just posted, the setting manages to do the whole "dark fantasy" thing really well. The mechanics are really cool too in that the GM doesn't ever roll any dice, and everything is handled by the players rolls.

E.g. "The blightwolf snarls as it lunges for your neck, roll defense". I haven't looked at it in a while, but its definitely something I would play.
>>
>>47672313
It's a trait restricted to a race a single race that costs an ability. Pretty much the only real reason to play a Goblin is for that soak.
>>
>>47672728
Yes, you buy ability and then Random decides if you just bought shit or actually decent ability. Is there any purpose other than "I dunno which value is good for that price, so I make it random, lol"?
>>

Ok so you get +3 armor. Done. Thankfully all tabletop RPGs are open source and this is just a one off niche issue, not a problem with a core system mechanic itself.

"Paws" is a kinda shitty word to use for the trait, but I couldn't come up with anything else? I looked around for a word synonymous with "labbar" (clumsy limbs, such as seal flippers) and couldn't find any.
>>
Just a random tidbit of lore that isn't in the core rule book:
When a goblin is at the end of its short life, it feels a strong pull to go into the forest of Davokar where it resigns to its fate. They actually form a cocoon and transform into trolls. Those that do not complete the process either suffocate and die, or escape as Ogres with no memories of their past lives.

There's a lot of things lore wise I really like about this setting.
>>
I wish they had a better terminology for the 5e "advantage/disadvantage" system, Symbaroum seems to use very longwinded, and sometimes not even consistent, descriptions for this?
In 5e the dis/advantage tags are so easy to slap onto a roll, I just want this game to have a similarly catchy phrase.

>>
>>47684008
The chapter on traits openly states that certain traits are limited by race in the header.

Though in the other hand, the game mentions about running a campaign where the players pick monstrous traits instead. So, I could see that opening an avenue to pick whatever.
>>
>>47684528
I don't think there are any solid rules for it, but it might be something that could be worth homebrewing.

Maybe an ability that gives you access to one creature in the bestiary. Since beasts have difficulty rankings, a Novice score in the ability could give you the weakest, Adept a step higher, and then Master a step higher above that? Maybe a little powerful, but you'd of course have to invest a lot to get it that strong.

I had to look up two examples to understand how to properly run combat, even then I still occasionally get confused about which stats give + or - modifiers as they get higher and when those mods kick in. Apparently 11 Quick is -1 but 0 Strong is +0 maybe I skimmed too lightly but I think it needs a table of what attribute is + or - as it gets higher. Also, properly English the stats. Strong=Strength Accurate=Accuracy Quick=Quickness etc etc. Would make it easier for English speakers to understand and less likely to drop it because of what they might mistake as poorly thought out names.

I haven't read much into the combat section, but I think it's entirely dependant on which attribute the enemy brings into play.
Yeah, checking on the combat action example on page 158 it seems to be that way.

The enemy has a resolute of 9, which gives you a +1 on on your roll.
A bit weird I guess, but I actually like the mechanics of the game so far.

Could you tell me exactly which examples you are looking at?
>>
>>47692937
That's correct, but the reason why is cause 10 is the base number and the GM does not make rolls, so when the players are being opposed by an enemy in the example of Strong(Player)<-Strong(Enemy).
If the enemy has 10. The player makes the roll at +0. The stronger the opposition the harder it is for the player to roll under their desired number.
Enemy has a Strong of 13. Your roll as a player gets a -3.
The weaker an enemy is, the more room you have to roll under. An enemy with a 6 in Strong give a player +4 to make their roll.

There are common attributes which usually modify one another. They are in the section at the end of each attribute description.

Elves and dwarves are in the Players Handbook. Elves have access to the ability "Wisdom of the Eons" wich allows them to spend some time thinking, only to remember "Oh yeah, i can totally use this one ability" which they then promptly forget after the scene.

Dwarves are greedy little beardless douchebags. They have perfect memories, a super-complicated language, and no souls.

>>
Because i like you all, have a translation of the Elven special ability. Now you to kan play a knife-ear and shoot treasure-hunting humans in the face.

Wisdom of the Eons
Elfkind have through the eons gathered a collective wisdom; a deep source of cunning and insight that many elves can take part of through meditation. The character is one of those who can use past generations knowledge to solve current problems.

It is not without its risks; in this darkening world the seeking attracts corruption. Wisdom of the Eons gives temporary corruption as if it where a mystic power (1d4)

NOVICE: Entire round. The character sinks into a short trance and, after a succesful resolute, gains access to one novice ability, except for Mystic Power and Ritualist. The insight stays for the current scene, then fades.
LEVEL TWO WHATEVER YOU CALL IT. Active
The characters close connection to the collective memory makes the trance shorter but otherwise functions as the novice level.
MASTER. Active. The character can dig deeper in the collective memory and, after a successful Resolute gains access to one (level 2) ability of his choice. The insight stays for the current scene, then fades.

Apologies for spelling errors. Quick translation, non-native speaker etc.
>>

Was playing the introductory adventure. Basically you are in a caravan. In the caravan are two very corrupted grave-robbing barbarians. Stalking the caravan are elves. Elves hate graverobbers.

Stuff happens. Elves demand the barbarians be kicked out of the caravan, into their tender mercies. Gives group some time to think about it. It comes to a vote. The group is evenly split. The last character, the tiebreaker, is a former Ranger.

He has seen a lot of action against the elves. Still carries the scars. I mentally prepare for him to vote against the extradition. Start planning the very very difficult battle. Then he speaks up.

I'm really kinda confused at the price point of the physical copies. Well not really, those prices are not uncommon in P&P I guess, but the german edition that is in the works will apparently be 20€, which is considerably cheaper than even the swedish version.
I usually prefer to buy the english version because I mostly talk with /tg/ about that stuff and I might some day end up on roll20, but the price difference is ridiculous.

Yeah, this. I can see using player stats for having an all-elf session though? That'd be a cool setting too, but GM gotta hold back on the Davokar secrets to not spoil the players I guess...
>>
>>47696328
Players are supposed to be younger elves, in the early summer cycle of their life. Also, Davokar is huge. The guideline is that an Elven PC knows about as much as a notelven PC with Learned on the Adept level knows. But yeah i agree. Personally i would recommend only core player races for the first five sessions at least.

There are also rules for playing as Trolls. Very interesting race. Magic songs and artefact making.

Good that you bring that up. I was bored and calculated the size of the map a few hours ago:

>Width: 1058 Km / 529 mi
>Height: 1370 km / 685 mi
>Diagonal: 1731 Km / 865 mi
>Area: 1449469 SqKm / 362365 Sqmi

I used the scales on maps of symbaroum that I have. In the Core book there is a scale showing a length of 100 Km, on another map I have as a .jpg (pic related) the same scale is supposed to be 50 mi. That accumulates to a difference of about 300 Km in the diagonal lenght of the map. Pretty substantial I think.

>>

Well, Davokar basically is Mirkwood NG+
>>
People were talking about pets or having some form of "pet class" earlier. Wouldn't having a trait for this kind of thing be the easiest solution? The higher your level the better training and control you have over the critter. The trouble is having this trait tied to a secondary "character" that might go get itself killed though...
Since animal handling probably is included into the trait the PC can capture and train another animal, but this would take some time.

>>
What are the core mechanics like overall? Is it balanced, what resolution system does it use ect?
>>
Is there anything like a expanded monster Manuel type handbook
>>
>>47696999
The resolution system is:
d20 roll under modifyed attribute.
Most of the times noted as
>[Attribute]
or if modifyed by something
>[Attribute<-modifying Attribute]
Attributes range from 5 to 15, the modifyer always comes from an enemy. If you want to sneak past an enemy, You test your discreet against their vigilant, written as
>[Discreet<-Vigilant]
The modifyers are in that pic >>47693098 Basically the higher a Stat the lower the bonus, since it's a roll under system.
So if you have 12 Discreet and the enemy 9 Vigilant, you had to roll under 13, since the bonus for 9 is +1.
>Roll under [Discreet<-Vigilant]
>Roll under [12<-+1]
>Roll under [13]

And lastly: Nice trips
>>
>>47697112
>If you want to sneak past an enemy, You test your discreet against their vigilant
should be
>If you want to sneak past an enemy, You test your discreet modifyed by their vigilant
>>

>>
>>47693144
I eventually understood that but it took me a few read throughs to get it and it became easier after I found the snippet of information that the DM is not supposed to roll anything. I spent about 4-6hrs reading through the book and a good bit on combat and skill checks before running a game on it. Luckily I understand it now, it just doesn't seem that intuitive compared to most D20 games.

My gamers seem to have brain troubles and don't like the idea of having to roll low. They seem to enjoy getting all excited and clapping like autists when they roll high. One of the reasons it will be a pain in the ass to introduce any system except DnD to them. I have wanted to play Rogue Trader for a long time but I think their heads would just explode and they would start crying unless I gave them overpowered characters from the beginning. Also one of them tried to rape the wolf in the intro quest, kinda getting tired of his shit but he hosts. Tried to tell him Ogres are not violent dipshits by nature and in most cases are within human ranges of intelligence and understood human customs and shit since they are often raised by them.

But it was still tough to get him to understand that he would know the basics of human decorum and likely follow it well and the reason he had the Pariah trait was because people didn't trust Ogres because of their looks and the fact that some criminal groups raise them to be violent thugs.

Maybe I am just having a case of "Stop liking what I don't like" and "badwrongfun". Would just be nice if he didnt play the same socially retarded murderer/rapist every time.
>>
>>47693305
They should have included that page in the book with a big bold heading. That basically answers every confusing fucking question I have about the system in one page. That should have been a page at the end of the core rule book, maybe it was and I missed it.

>Davokar
>Neutral Good
Really?
REALLY?

You realize this forest is probably a dozen times more vicious and filled with fouler denizens than Murkwood.

Murkwood
>Necromancer (weakened Sauron that runs away from Gandalf)
>Weakened wring wraith-like creatures
>Giant Spoiders

Davokar
>Elves that absolutely desire to fuck your shit up at all times and are good at it.
>Giant 20ft tall trolls that are actually intelligent and capable of using magic along with their unrivaled strength and regeneration, also want to kill you
>Every plant, it wants to kill you
>The land itself will turn you into a puss filled rotting abomination which will then turn on any living thing
>Previously mentioned abominations
>Every piece of treasure wants to kill you
>2 kinds of giant spoiders
>Ruins that tempt you into their depths so their denizens can kill you.

Basically every last part of Davokar lures you deeper into it and preys on everything you think you know is safe or wise to do and uses it to corrupt you, turn you on your own kind, or flat out kill you.

Hell the most benevolent race in the forest are the elves, whose children actively try to lure you into traps and whose adults will shoot you in the leg with a poison arrow just so they can chase you until you drop from exhaustion and take a steaming dump on your corpse.

Compared to Davokar, Murkwood is Lawful Good with some bad tenants moving in recently.

My group went with a few of the pre-gen characters given in the opening adventure (The Promised Land). They've tweaked them a bit and advanced since then, but they've kept the names.

Bartolom: Novice in Ordo Magica. Too curious for his own good, and has a fascination with dark artefacts.

Niha: Changeling rogue. Grew up on the streets in Yndaros, now on a quest to learn about her kind's true nature and find a place in the world.

Karla: Outcast barbarian ranger, possibly the best archer in Thistle Hold.

Leolim: Changeling who grew up as apprentice to a witch in the forest.

Basically they're a rag-tag group of adventurers willing to do most kinds of dirty work. Bartolom is kind of the unofficial leader of the group as he's Ambrian (able to negotiate well with civilised people) and an Ordo wizard (prone to get orders to go places and investigate weird stuff). I think the group is mainly hungry to learn about the setting and willing to take almost any plot hook that seems interesting.

We had to nerf Karla slightly.

Using some new abilities and an archetype perk from the Player's Handbook she has managed to reach a level where she can now fire three arrows in a single round of combat, with a +1 damage bow and the ability that raises the damage of bows from 1d8 to 1d10.

So that's a potential 33 damage per turn.

The archetype perk Hunter's Instinct gave her a re-roll on every attack roll against a marked target. The nerf we all agreed on was to only allow a re-roll on the first attack.

Considering that the average HP of a human in this game is about 10 HP, she's a pretty scary marksman even without the ludicrous re-rolls.
>>
>>47707650
She sounds like she's elf levels of ranger. Don't want to run into here in the dark forest.
>>
This setting sounds utterly fantastic. Has anyone tried repurposing it to a more familiar system? I really like the dark fantasy feel but I don't know if I'm willing to subjecting my players (Fairly new) to learning another system if I can keep the familiar one and just roll with the setting.

Also, how do you guys rate the system if you stand it up against other things like D&D or some of the simpler systems like Barbarians Of Lemuria.
>>
>>47707782
It should work reasonably well with D&D or Pathfinder, but really Symbaroum's system is extremely simple. It's far easier to play than D&D and has much less stuff the players or the GM need to keep track of. Hell, the GM isn't even supposed to roll dice, so he can focus on running the scenes.
>>
>>47707782
Wouldn't be hard, just take the lore and such and pump it into X system. Come up with corruption mechanics that mirror the feel of the ones from the game and you should be all good.
Corruption is a very central theme to the world.
>>
>>47707768
Dark forest is exactly the place where you want to run into her. Penalties due to darkness and obstacles, you know.
>>
>>47707844
>>47707860
I'm certainly considering working it in somewhere. Current campaign is focused on the players as a vanguard to settlers on a new jungle continent (kinda central america, but with lizardman) so i'll probably shelve this setting for the next thing, or maybe offer it as an alternative and see what they fancy more.

Reading that the GM doesn't roll dice, or at least not for combat or the like sounds like a great idea, i've always had the concern of having to fudge my rolls so I don't manage a TPK just by sheer luck.

So now that people have had time looking over the system, who has rolled up a character that they'll never actually play? What's he like?
>>
>>47708552

>>
>>47708634
A ronin kinda dude?
>>
>>47708552
Not yet rolled the character complete. But I had a concept, that I tried to do. Still not done, since I'm unsure which way I'd like to go.
For now the abilities that I'm fairly sure I'd take are: Medicus, Polearm MAstery, Ritualist
additionaly most likely is a mystical Tradition
Lastly I'm not sure wether to take a Mystical Power, alchemy or feint as last ability.

My Idea was a Witch that, obviously, wields a spear. As (first) Ritual I would most likely take the Flaming servant as her bodyguard. And then she can go around earning some money by healing people. Either through Medicus+Alchemy or Medicus+Lay on hands, If I would take that as first Mystical power.
But now that I wrote that completely out, I think Alchemy would probably be the most handy thing to pick here.
>>

Edgy necromancer. He has many angst and sadness and stuff like that. And he is very mysterious also. I didn't actually think about his personality at all, just fascinated with all that bad stuff sorcerers have

Yeah pretty much. They're both pretty similar I think. Both have failed their lords, whether that be through personal weakness, assassination or whatnot and kinda roam, looking for a new lord worthy of service. Everything's possible in Thistle Hold...
>>
>>47706924
Speaking of my group, our wizard Bartolom has decided to forge a Flaming servant for himself.

I feel like most of the rituals in the rulebook are lacking in description and components, so as my players encounter rituals I try to develop them and explain their arcane motions.

So, for Flaming servant the ritual is as follows:

>Acquire a scarecrow or some other sort of flammable mannequin. It is important that it is in the shape of a man, for the shape of man is the shape of an intelligent creature.

>Encase the straw man in a suit of armour.

>Pack the armour with additional straw, wood, coal, and other flammable material. Fill and seal it with tar and pitch.

>Place the armour on a funeral pyre. Pose it like a man on his last voyage. The man of fire shall be born through cremation.

>Light the pyre, and as the flames start to lick the armour chant the spirit's name while channeling the nature of fire.

>The effigy of a soldier will inform the spirit as to its nature. The given name will inform the spirit of its singular existence. It will serve its creator and name-giver with outmost loyalty.

>Should the armour be destroyed and the spirit slip from its physical anchor, it can be re-summoned by anyone who knows the ritual and the spirit's given name.
>>
One thing i'm curious about is how you would run knowledge like checks? Like where to look for intel or people who know stuff. Knowledge about monsters or cities or stuff like that. Would that be handled by Cunning or something along those lines?
>>
>>47709119
Yes, it's Cunning.

There are two abilities that come into lore stuff: Loremaster, which is an extremely broad lore skill which can identify artefacts, decipher languages, and generally "know stuff about stuff" - and Beast Lore which allows a player to force the GM to reveal the stats of a monster.
>>
>>47709091
Hmm, from the description you gave you can summon the same spirit twice, that would make the servant not lose it's experience unlike in the book.
But other than that I like it. A good description of the ritual
>>
>>47709155
Yeah, but I'd probably say that the spirit loses experience over time in death, as its individuality "dissolves" in its return to the element of fire.
>>
>>47709174
Hmm, thats quite neat. For every day you take to prepare the ritual it loses experience. Good compromise I think. And cool flavour as well.
>>

What's the deal with that "the regent's citadel" west of Davokar? It seems to be isolated out in the middle of nowhere but the name implies a seat of power?

And any information given about the western continent that the great war was fought with?
>>
>>47706371
Here's a question: if I start as an adept in twin attack, are the two single-handed weapons I get as starter equipment just generic single-handed weapons or could I pick one with a special ability like a crow's beak?
>>
>>47709332
Starting equipment you get from abilities are the most generic items.
>>
>>47709332
They would be generic, you could ask your GM if you could front the difference for something more.
>>
>>47709262
It's been suggested that there is a huge high elf empire to the west of Davokar, and that the elves of Davokar originated as a specialist group sent to contain the corruption of Symbaroum.

As far as I can tell the enemy in the Great War came from Lyastra, so just east of Alberetor.

The front line in the far west seems to be a constant war against an elf realm.

I suppose if we decide to buy better armour if you have the man at arms ability. Would it just be GM discretion if we can get the money value of the free equipment from abilities if we already plan to purchase better alternatives?
>>
>>47709536
The guideline I use is that the relevant merchant will buy back items at half their retail price, but Persuasive can bring this up to the full price.
>>
>>47709610
That seems fair, but I meant at character creation. My knight gets free medium armour, but I'm going to buy full plate so I don't need the medium armour.
>>
>>47709650
I would do the with the other thing I suggested, just paying the difference if the item you want is more expensive at character creation.

>It's no secret that some of Yndaros' nobles don't have the stomach to abandon their beloved children -children they had cared for and loved for so many years- when they turn out to be changelings. In these cases it is tacitly ignored when the child is sent to a withering keep south of the Titans and surrendered to the Greyborn War College. The Greyborn takes in these spoiled children, strips them of their former identities (to the point of forcing them to wear featureless masks unless they are alone in their cells), and then builds them back up into a stunningly powerful battalion of shock troops before returning them to their former homeland. It was in the Greyborn that Meilara's story began.

Essentially, during the process of tearing her down she broke mentally and her personality and shadow swapped places (so now she is a dauntless changeling warrior, while her shadow is a scared Ambarian noble). One night the keep was beset by a horde of barbarian abominations led by an elf. Meilara fled and, as far as she knows, was the only survivor of the assault. Now she's heading north to discover what truly happened that fateful night and how these dark creatures passed into the south unnoticed.

I'm really digging what I've read about this game, but before I buy, I was wondering: where does this game lie on the rules scale, closer to 3.PF or closer to Dungeon World?
>>
>>47709971
Luckily, it has nothing common with dnd aside from using same dice.
>>
>>47710038
Sorry, I didn't mean functionality of the rules. I want to know how many rules it has. Tons of fiddly bits wasting my time or a more streamlined experience?
>>
>>47710058
Much much much more streamlined than D&D
>>
Anyone know if they have a monster manual equivalent, hopefully translated. I like the theme and atmosphere of this game but I feel like after a while of dealing with elves, brigands, and undead it'll get a little samey.
>>
I'm reading through the book and i'm trying to figure out what kind of scenario/adventure i'd run to introduce my group to the setting. I really like the idea of delving into the dark of davokar, but have no idea what that'd entail. Does this system have a random encounter type deal for expeditions into the unknown?

Apart from the planning a delve into the dark nasty woods, what other adventures/quests really capture the essence of this setting?

Doesn't seem like it
http://butik.jarnringen.com/en/shop.php?id=41105

You can always craft new enemies I think.
>>
>>47711668
Fair enough. I suppose it's something you can just throw anything dangerous or dark into the mix. After all, very few live to tell of the horrors in the deeper areas of Davokar.
>>
>>47711536
For the most part, you make your own. Just fit them with attributes and whatever monstrous traits that fit in the book / you make up.
>>
>>47711536
You can also just roll up a squad of ambarian soldiers or a barbarian hunting party or a group of witchunters (as appropriate for your group).
>>
How would you rule gaining and losing corruption on a voyage into the deeper parts of Davokar? It says that temporary corruption is lost at the end of a scene, but also mentions you gain some per day or even per hour in some places. How would you rule this? Is it just at the end of each day it fades and is rerolled if they are still in a similar place to see if it pushes anything to permanent corruption?
>>
>>47713023
I'd say that as long as you are gaining corruption, you cannot get rid of it. Optionally, do it like this: Corruption gained during a scene is lost after the scene. Corruption gained over the course of a day is lost only after an entire day has been spent away from any corrupting influence.
>>
>>47713600
Some areas are per hour.
>>
>>47713600
>>47713856
Yeah that could probably work, I spose it depends on the GM because it's pretty vague. Not every area causes corruption I assume, otherwise you'd be straight fucked.
>>
I'm really glad, that the game has found so much interest here.

DoD is based on Magic World, yeah.

Äventyrspel used BRP for most of their games, even released a Swedish Gamma World which ran on BRP. Which has had several editions, justas Drakar och Demoner and now is on Mutant Year Zero, which has a nice dice pool system which actually really like a lot.
>>
>>47672313
No, you roll for armor, every time it's used. You have to read the rules to get it. Players do all the dice rolling. The GM don't roll any dice.
>>
>>47672859
>>47672983
You allways roll for armor, every time it's used, as the GM never rolls any dice and monsters do a static damage score which you roll to soak.

Read the rules.
>>
>>47668099
More of off Magic World, but yes, BRP.
>>
Can you be a Wizard but not belong to Ordo Magica? Also, can you choose multiple mystical traditions?
>>
>>47722165
Well, I have not found anything that states the opposite.

As for a non ordo wizard: You could have been tought by a wizard that has gone rogue. But the only thing that seems to be necessary to be classifyed as a wizard is a throrough study of the arcane.

And Mystical traditions: Nothing outright saying you can't, I think. So it depends on what backstory you come up with and your gm I guess.
>>
>>47722165
As always it's up to the GM and the group what you all think fits with the story you all want to tell and explore together.
>>
>>47658298
Thanks!
>>
How many people have actively played or are planning a game of this. It seems rad so I'm considering using it whenever I get a chance to roll a one shot to see how my group likes the system.
>>
>>47722284
I think right now it's a lot of people just pouring over the rulebook, not a lot of people really playing yet.
>>
>>47722284
Some anons were talking about putting a roll20 game together higher up in the thread, not sure what happened with that.
>>
Does anyone have access to the tables present in Adventure Pack 1? I'm told they're incredibly useful for planning adventures and the like, and i'd like to have a look at them before I have to pay for some prewritten locations when all I want are the tables.
>>
>>47723521
Well I for one would definetely be down for that. Any GM wishing to run this thing?
>>
>>47722284
My GM is reading through the setting stuff now and I think we're gonna play later this weekend.
>>
>>47722284
Our group was up in the air about either playing this or Götterdämmerung. Since Götter won, we'll probably play Symbaroum after that.
>>
>>47722284

In a group on Roll 20. The one posted much higher up. Our first session is Wednesday.

Sadly it appears the group is full. Unless I found the wrong listing.

I haven't read the rules a lot, but couldn't you learn magic from a witch? They seem to be a lot more maverick-y and non-aligned (hanging out with barbarian tribes, if anyone)?
>>
>>47728998
Yes, but you could not learn wizardy magic. Well a witch could probably teach you any mystic powers she knows if she wants, but we are talking about the qualification as a Wizard, belonging to the tradition of wizards. Since all traditions have their own kinda way of acessing magic or something. Wizards through study, witches through ... nature or something.
Let me explain a short bit. Mystical Powers aka Spells (and rituals) always belong to one or more tradition, these being Sorcerer, Witch, Wizard and Theurg. Now when you learn a spell or ritual that does not belong to one tradition you know, you get drawbacks, and I think on casting as well, not sure.
So he's asking if he can learn the Wizard tradition, without belonging to the Ordo, which is the only institution of that tradition in the setting.
